Because it's used to imply that romantic relationships are superior to platonic ones. It's not inherently more important. I'd say "more than acquaintances". More than acquaintances = friends, partners, family. This is my stance on this and I stand by it, but...because I've taken society's opinion to heart, I am still insecure about it. Sucks.
