I always wondered why he loved to use the birds as his "spell" symbol. Anyhow, it upset me big time when he died and when the truth was revealed only then fangirls started liking him. -____- Seriously.

My guess would be that birds are symbol of freedom, and the one thing he wanted the most was Sasuke to be freed from the chains of hatred after he died, although it failed thanks to stupid tobi. Itachi knew he was sick so he played his part till the bitter end, he would never archive true freedom.

At first I thought it was odd to just wait there as if to show him some horror before that, or something? I mean, that would mean he hated Sasuke. But once he let him live and told him to hate him, grow strong and only then find him if he wants revenge - I just knew it xD. He wasn't the bad dude. Although I agree..Some of his beatings were too harsh for his brother's age XD.... But it's anime so.. Oh, man. You just got me started on Itachi XD.
