    An Ancient Feud (Private, 18+)

    Spoiler:

It was late at night, it was a nearly cloudless night with the moon shining high among the shimmering stars. It truly was a beautiful sight, made even more beautiful by Kaine's enhanced eyesight. He stood within the trees, a light breeze blowing making the leaves rustle gently around him. His bare feet were slightly wet from the damp grass, a product of a recent storm. Kaine had left his shoes behind in his room when leaving that night, they'd only slow him down and take away from the experience. This was possibly quite careless of him, the way he was just darting around in the woods late at night, not really paying attention to where he was going or what was going on. For the most part his eyes were glued to the sky, it wasn't often he got the chance to admire the world around him, he was often told he needed to be more serious and stay focused. But what was the point? They lived forever basically, centuries passed and the world changed around them, taking the time to admire the beauty of the world was something he felt as necessary. If only his coven mates and the council would agree, it was a shame, but it was also their loss not his.

After standing there for awhile he figured out how close he was to the border, it was a place they had heard horror stories of, a place they were told to never venture near. But... how could he not? It was almost as if this invisible barrier was calling to him, begging him to come closer, to take a look and see what the big deal was. Kaine knew what awaited on the other side, wolves as he liked to call them, muts really. Werewolves didn't mean anything to the vampire, they were enemies, plain and simple. Though he couldn't really recall why their races were feuding, it had been that way for as long as anyone could remember and just continued to be so without anyone ever questioning it. Even Kaine was guilty of this, he had never once cared or questioned their feud, and tonight was no different as he deliberately moved towards the invisible line separating their lands.

Kaine just had to see what the big deal was, it wasn't even a real line after all. Rather it was invisible, and yet ingrained into every member of either side. It really just seemed natural after all these centuries for things to continue to remain that way. His main curiosity towards the border was the werewolves that were said to patrol it, why? It didn't make any sense to him, it wasn't like it was necessary after all, or at least it wasn't to him. The trip there didn't take him long, and before he knew it he was standing there, within arms reach of the border, his eyes scanning the woods that continued before him. Oddly enough the border sight seemed to have a few feet on both sides that was completely void of trees as though it was the lands natural border. That certainly made it easy to see someone approaching from either side who may be breaking the rules by crossing. The terms of their treaty was clear after all, neither side was to cross into the other's territory. It really was the only thing keeping the peace.

Re: An Ancient Feud (Private, 18+)

    Spoiler:

Another night, another nearly clear night with the stars twinkling among the vast empty sky. Their light lit up the forest, only matched by the very moon itself which shone in its own incomparable beauty. This has always been his favorite time of the night...He thought to himself. It was quiet, the faintest sounds of crunching leaves and the midnight breeze rusting the trees. All of the creatures of the forest rested from their daily tasks and the creatures of the night came out, quiet among themselves. No matter how many times he looked at that sky, it still gave him what he could call a sense of peace. It was even quieter here by the border...

He was always told since he was small to never venture near the border line between themselves and the "blood sucking leeches", the vampires. The pack has always made this rule clear above all else..No one, for any reason, shall cross the border between their two territories. This feud has gone on for generations before him now, not even sure the reason behind this to begin with. If it kept the peace between the leeches, whatever. He would rather keep the pack off his back and just go along with what he was told rather than have to deal with the repercussions..

    And yet...

He had to admit he had always been curious. What was all this fuss about? There was no fence and no true border, only the spoken word keeping them both separate from one another. It was then he decided that he would get close to the border tonight...He had to see for himself. Tenmo kept sneakers on his human form, in case he would need to run in that way or move at a good pace. But he preferred his wolf form, the muscle, the grace, the speed in which he can dart from tree to tree. He could do that regardless, but he had his preferences in which form he favored for certain activities.

It was then he finally reached the end of the forest, the border devoid of its normally hulking plant life consisting of all its trees and brush. It was clear, open in view of the light of the moon and all those who would gaze upon it. Anyone who approached this border could easily see creatures on the other side of the border line. His eyes darted around from the cover of his brush, quietly stepping out in his wolf form before turning back into his human form. Upon further scanning of the border line...

    He saw it....

Re: An Ancient Feud (Private, 18+)

For awhile he had stood there, eyes taking in the other side of this invisible border and wondering what was on the other side. His curiosity seeming to peak, did the wolves live like them or did they live in caves like he had been told? It seemed absurd to think the latter, especially with how the world was around them, they couldn't be that backward. Could they? Questions like this were actually extremely common when it came to his mind. It was always going off into rather odd directions, sometimes in ways that made absolutely no sense even to himself. They were muts, and it was something he had been taught for a long time, he often remembered the way his coven mates would turn their noses up just at the mention of them. It made him wonder what they would ever do if they came face to face with one.

It seemed as though he'd know first hand, well at least he'd know how he would react in such a situation. As it seemed fate would have it he had wandered a ways down the border, pretty much walking along the invisible line when he caught the sight of another figure in his peripheral vision. He paused, mid step, burgundy eyes darting towards the figure and taking in the way this other man looked. Oddly enough, he didn't feel concerned by his presence, even though it was clearly a wolf since he was on that side of the line. It was still... interesting to him. The other, like himself seemed at ease in the night, not something that was surprising but it was at least a bit more comforting to him. For a moment he stood there taking the other figure in, eyes scanning over him and trying to decide what he was even doing here.

Maybe... curiosity was strong on both of their parts. It was a possibility after all, or maybe the council was right and they did patrol the border. But up until now there hadn't even been any sign of the werewolves, no signs that they even came anywhere near the border as it was. 'Maybe that's a tale both sides tell, to keep anyone from coming here.' Kaine thought to himself. That didn't make his curiosity dissipate though, if anything it just became stronger. It was odd really, that he was so curious about their enemy, but he didn't understand the feud to begin with and no one seemed to remember or really know why the two sides hated each other. Over the centuries whenever he had asked he had always been told the same thing. It's always been that way, for as long as anyone can remember. But why? That answer wasn't one he had ever been happy with, and now was no different. Did this wolf possibly know the answer to that age old question?

There was no way of knowing, and at first he just remained frozen where he had seen the other. Suddenly he was in motion again though, his actions were more calculated but no less swift as he inched closer. Though he hoped his curiosity about the man or his hesitation wasn't showing clearly on his face. He wasn't exactly the most skilled when it came to hiding his emotions, even if as a vampire most would assume he was. It just wasn't something he had mastered yet.

Re: An Ancient Feud (Private, 18+)

A vampire...There one was...right in front of him. Granted it was on the other side of their border but it was there, just watching him..staring at him. His gaze stayed fixed on the others figure, wondering the others purpose there. Was he there to patrol the border? It seemed very odd to be there just on pure coincidence..at the same time of night. But that was the way they were, creatures of the night, only meant to linger and feast in the darkest of hours. What was he doing there and...why was he acting so calm?

These questions raced through his mind despite his collected and quiet mannerism. He was always told by his pack that they were a bunch of leeches, a plague that disgraced the night. They were bugs to be squashed under their paws, no better than the dirt underneath their feet. You could not mention a vampire in their midst without a small growl or a scowl of discontent amongst those present. That was the way things have always been as long as most of them have existed and maybe even before then. So why was he not intimidated at all...? From all the things the pack has said over his time alive, he thought meeting one, whenever that may or may not have been, would be a much more thrilling experience at most.

Tenmo took his first few steps closer to the other creature, his moves careful and precise. It seemed the other was doing the same, the both of them stepping closer and closer to one another. Closer and closer to the border that would separate the two territories. Closer to getting a closer look at what was probably his first vampire encounter his entire life. His steps closed in on the other, able to view the other up close.

    Hmm..

It seemed to have hair that matched the dusk of the day, the sun setting into the western sky as the moon would soon rise. And the creatures eyes..Those eyes...They complimented the color of the others eyes. And soon he was close enough to catch the others scent. He extended his face a bit closer to get a better scent. Not bad...He wasn?t sure what to expect but it smelled nice...

Re: An Ancient Feud (Private, 18+)

It seemed for every step he took the other took a step as well, the distance between them and the invisible line was rather quickly decreasing and that knowledge was only making him even more curious to learn about the other. His burning curiosity only seeming to burn hotter the closer they came to each other. They both seemed to come to a stop within arms reach, oddly enough Kaine felt no fear, nor worry with the other man present. It was odd he knew, any of his coven mates would have surely been worried about the werewolf's presence, but this was a learning opportunity for Kaine one he just couldn't pass up. Not to mention, he had no idea when he was going to have such an opportunity again, it wasn't like he could just keep coming back every night and talk to every wolf he ran into.

For a moment he was quietly observing the other, noticing the way his face seemed to move closer to him as though he was testing his scent, much like a dog. An amused look crossed his face and he couldn't help but flash a smile, "I hope you're not trying to hint that I smell or something." It was a light hearted comment, as he could tell by the man's face that he didn't exactly stink. Or at least, he didn't smell like the other had probably thought he would. That could be said for the other man as well though, he didn't smell like he had expected often being told they smelled like wet dog. But... that wasn't remotely the smell he was getting, it seemed more woodsy really, earthy if anything. It wasn't bad, actually quite pleasant, much like the smell of the forest around them.

Tilting his head slightly he looked him over, from his jet black hair that seemed to capture the moonlight perfectly, those emerald eyes that were a bit more entrancing than the vampire wanted to admit all the way down to his feet. "Don't you wolves normally travel in packs? Or... are you some type of loner or something?" There was no stopping his mouth, some of his questions just seemed to burst forward before he could really take into account what he was doing. It was who he was though, and it seemed like the easiest way to break the odd atmosphere that was surrounding them.

There didn't seem to be much of a difference in the other's height to his own, not that he was really expecting one. Kaine almost settled himself into the damp grass to ask more questions, it took every ounce of his being not to do so. Getting comfortable wasn't a smart idea, mainly because this was still an unknown creature and he shouldn't let his guard down just because he was curious. It'd probably be the death of him if he was being completely honest with himself, he was terrible at keeping his guard up though. That didn't mean he wasn't strong or capable, just that he was often caught off guard when situations changed or went against what he was used to.

Re: An Ancient Feud (Private, 18+)

It truly was the opportunity of a lifetime..to be this close to a vampire. Time was not going to present an opportunity of this caliber to him again. And it seemed that opportunity gave him a rather odd encounter as they were not fighting or even at each others throat. They weren't fighting or even any hostility in the air like he would expect, but rather a sense of calm. The atmosphere didn't feel any different than if they were just..having a normal conversation. As if he just walked up and started talking with one of his own.

Tenmo was surprised when the other had spoken up shortly after he took a cautious sniff of the others scent. The others voice wasn't all too unpleasing to hear as well, it seemed to compare to the feeling of ease he would get when he was looking up at the moon and stars every night. It was not necessarily a sense of peace but a sense of ease, a sense of knowing all was still and alright in the moment. It was suspicious to feel such a feeling in front of a vampire..yet there may never be another chance like this again. After his surprise had dissipated, he finally spoke up to answer the others question. "Not at all..." He answered, trying not to get sucked into those eyes that looked up at him. Why were those eyes so captivating? Even thinking this much...he was not sure how to feel about it.

It was then that the other had spoken up, asking another question of him. Of course they would question his being alone, he would expect the same of the other. And yet here they were...It seemed that they were both alone, unable to see or detect the presence of any others. "I do often keep my own company yes...I do travel in a pack though yes.." He answered, wondering if he should continue. There seemed to be a sense of what he could only describe as 'trust' in the air, although that may not be the word he would ideally use. "Tonight as well..I also traveled alone" Tenmo added, figuring he could take on a vampire if things went bad. But he had no urge to at the same time....

Tenmo kept his eyes fixed on the others as he slowly went down onto the grass on one knee, still putting himself into a position to run or pounce if needed. But the opportunity was at his side so he wanted to see how far he could run with it. He wanted to try to get this mutual message across..He would not attack but he would if the other tried anything funny. Those eyes werent exactly easy to look away from..they were even harder to look away from with the stars twinkling and the moon reflected in them.

Re: An Ancient Feud (Private, 18+)

Kaine had stood there silently watching the other waiting for his response, but the werewolf didn't seem to like he was going to say anything at all at first. This of course just made even more questions pop into his head, all of which wanted to just burst forth at once. He knew from experience though not to bombard someone with a bunch of questions, mainly because it could be overwhelming for the other, but also because he knew there was a good chance that not all of his questions would be answered that way. Finally the answer came and it made a bright smile cross his face, "That's definitely a compliment." He responded happily. Which it was, he didn't expect a werewolf to say he smelled good in any way, or at least not bad, just like he had expected the other to smell like a wet dog, but he didn't. It was pleasing, and it made him more relaxed around the stranger.

It seemed as though the other's answers to his other questions only ended up making him more confused, the werewolf told him that he did often keep to himself, but that he traveled in a pack. It made him question if that meant it was more of a fifty fifty change that he was alone or with others. Being told that the other traveled alone tonight wasn't information he was expecting, but it was nice to hear for sure. At the very least it meant he didn't have to worry about another one suddenly jumping out at him. "Do you travel by the border alone often?" He asked unable to keep this question back.

Watching the other slowly go down on the grass on one knee made him take in his body language. Clearly this position wouldn't hinder him if he needed to move quickly, still it seemed like a nice gesture in general. Kaine noticed the other's gaze didn't seem to waver from his own. It was odd, he was finding more differences between the stranger and the canine's that they closely resembled, well, when in their wolf forms anyway. That was probably to be expected in the end, but he had always been told they were animals, barbarians really.

"I'm Kaine by the way." He suddenly said introducing himself. As a natural reaction he had even offered the other his hand for them to shake hands, not caring that this put his hand literally on the invisible border between them. It just felt right, to introduce himself and show kindness, he wasn't some ruthless blood thirsty creature after all. That wasn't to say he couldn't be, but he was actually quite different from most of the others. His first instinct wasn't to attack everything that moved, wasn't to try to rip out the throat of his enemies or to stalk prey. Kaine was just... Kaine. He liked to see the world, to enjoy the serenity present in it, meeting new people, making friends and getting the answers to the thousands upon thousands of questions he almost always had. He had met other creatures before, but never a werewolf, and since he didn't know when or even if he would ever get another chance he had to make the most of this situation.

Re: An Ancient Feud (Private, 18+)

Tenmo was a bit thrown off by the others calm almost cheery demeanor. The vampire seemed almost happy to see him and he wasn’t sure how to feel about that. Vampires are supposed to be these blood thirsty leeches, carnivorous beings that only sought out blood and nothing else. Nothing maybe except for the extermination of any wolf upon sight. Why was this different, why was everything going on like this? How was he even supposed to react to this? It was getting harder and harder to not keep all his walls up at full strength when the other seemed so...he couldn’t think of a way to describe clearly now how the other was making him feel.

“I suppose...In a way. I have never been..this close before” He finally answered the other, an odd question that seemed to come out of nowhere. “It’s..quiet...peaceful” He added, looking around the clearing that was their border line. It really was peaceful and seren here, even with a vampire standing right before him. They were having a casual conversation almost as if they were a part of the same pack. It was getting really hard now to keep up his guard, even more so when..

    -“I’m Kaine by the way”-

The other had introduced himself. Now he knew the others name...Kaine. It seemed like if there was a fight to be had, would it not have happened already? Maybe just this once, cease this opportunity and do what he could with it...”Tenmo, my names Tenmo” he replied, looking up at the hand extended down to him in...a handshake? This was very friendly..and very confusing. He got up from his crouched position to properly take the others hand in his own for a handshake.

    Huh..

Surprisingly smooth..He thought as he let his hand linger on the others a bit longer. They were very soft, silky even..Tenmo thought to himself as he ran a finger over the knuckles. He had always been told about their kind that their skin was rough like bark, a crunching uneven texture. It was none of those things...not even close. Their was no urge to pounce on the their or even attack him at all, he just...He finally seemed to let his guard down, for a brief moment. Just one night...just one...Might as well take what the night gave him

Re: An Ancient Feud (Private, 18+)

He liked this wolf, it was odd to think this but that was exactly how he felt. Instead of feeling unease around the wolf, if anything there was an odd sense of comfort that was growing with each passing minute. Being told that the other had never been this close before made more sense than if he was to come here alone often. "It really is." Kaine agreed with a nod, eyes moving from the other to the night sky again before they made a sweep around the area around them. Having been told for so long that this place was off limits it was almost surreal to be there, to be able to see this place.

His introduction was met by learning the other's name as well, which of course was met by another smile from Kaine. This encounter was one he knew he would never be able to share with anyone back home, they wouldn't believe him or they'd try saying he was a traitor working with the wolves. Something that he had absolutely no intention of doing, or being accused of doing when that wasn't the case at all. For a moment he thought that Tenmo wasn't going to shake his hand, that was fine, he wouldn't press it any. Just as he was about to let his hand return to his side it was taken his burgundy gaze moving to their hands now.

The warmth of Tenmo's hand was nice, and though it was just meant as a friendly motion he didn't really want it to end right away either. Feeling the other's finger run over his knuckles made him feel as though Tenmo had expected something different, did his hand feel weird? Shrugging it off he just decided he was going to ignore it for the moment and instead ask one of his other questions that he was just itching to know the answer too. "Does... your pack come to the border often?" That was one of the reasons why they had always been so strongly encouraged to keep their distance from this place, being told that the wolves were always there. But was that even true? That was why he was asking if the other's pack came to this place often, he had to and wanted to know.

It was unconscious really that he took another step closer to the other, for one reason or another wanting to be closer. Suddenly a much different question popped up in his mind and with no filter at all he immediately asked it. "So when you're a wolf what happens to your clothes?" It was surely an odd question, but it was suddenly the most important question he had.

Re: An Ancient Feud (Private, 18+)

That smile...He seemed so happy to be there in his presence. What was it about that smile? Something about the way that smile seemed to gleam...put him in even further ease. Maybe this wasn’t so bad..his guard was even lowered now. Even with being right at the border, he might as well have been right at home. And that was a feeling that was hard to understand when he was at the border of the two races..talking to the very race he was supposed to hate and despise above all else.

Tenmo finally let go of the others hand when the vampire, well..Kaine...asked a question of him. “Do they come often? I cannot say..Rarely do i even see anyone venture close to the border. I suppose they Will at times but never this close to the line unless there was a threat...Then they might draw close” Tenmo said with a shrug, those words being true. That would be the only reason he had seen the other wolves draw close. Only to protect their own...Not really to outright attack anyone. It was nothing much, usually drawing close meant a fight would break out or something of that kind. Not like this...Never this peaceful that he knew of...It was odd.

Tenmo found the other stepping closer to him, taking another step closer to the other himself. It took a moment to process the question before he couldn’t help but let out a laugh. When was the last time he laughed? Kaine made him laugh..This really was strange. “What happens to my clothes..?” It took a moment to compose himself before he answered. “Well, they kind of stay on so when we are human, we still have clothes. In the event of a sudden transformation or just stuff happens, they do tend to shred so we need to be careful..” He shrugged, taking a step closer and now pretty much just standing at the border line now. Another step...and he would be in their territory. He was really close to Kaine now...really close.
