Leon watched Asta disappear through the doors of the exam hall, his oversized hoodie swaying slightly with each limping step. The sight stirred a mix of pride and something far more tender in Leon’s chest, like watching someone carry the marks of last night like proof of trust, of closeness. Of being his. He waited until Asta was completely out of sight, then leaned back in the driver’s seat, exhaling slowly through his nose. His hand lingered for a second longer on the steering wheel before he shifted his gaze to the building ahead. Four hours. He tapped his phone screen, opening up a new message: Leon: Call me when you’re done. I’ll be close by. Don’t try to walk too far, alright? A moment passed. Then a second. Still no reply. Not that he expected one yet. Asta was probably already sitting in the exam room, alternating his weight between thighs and trying not to grimace. The thought made Leon smirk again, just slightly. He turned the ignition off and stepped out of the car, stretching lazily under the morning sun. The hoodie he wore hung loose over his frame, and his sweatpants were still slung low on his hips, casual and unbothered. He blended in with the half-awake students and coffee-wielding professors moving around the college perimeter, but his presence still drew a glances. Something in the way he walked. Controlled. Calm. A predator at ease, but always aware. Leon decided to kill time meandering the nearby blocks. The town around the university was full of little shops and side streets. A record store. A late-opening bookstore with cracked spines in the window. A plant shop that smelled like mint and watered soil. He stepped into a tiny café on the corner, got himself sandwich and ate it slowly while leaning against the counter, scrolling absently through his phone. He wasn’t really paying attention to the feed, though. His thoughts kept drifting. He could still feel Asta’s fingers tightening against his skin from last night. The heat of him. The sound of his voice breaking apart into something breathless and sweet. Leon had been careful. As careful as a man with claws and teeth and a deep, aching hunger for someone could be. But it was also the first time Asta had let himself be that open. That vulnerable. It had flipped a switch in Leon’s chest that he hadn’t known was there. Protective wasn’t a strong enough word. He wasn’t just hooked—he was claimed. Leon stepped back out onto the sidewalk, the sunlight warming his shoulders as he wandered aimlessly again. He passed a vintage clothing shop and ducked inside out of curiosity. He wasn’t particularly into shopping, but Asta had a thing for oversized cardigans and cozy textures, and Leon was already thinking ahead. Maybe he’d pick one out. Pretend it was a surprise gift later. Pretend he didn’t already know how good Asta would look in it curled up on his couch. He shook the thought away and moved on, sliding back into the rhythm of slow steps and killing time. The town had that lazy midday hum now. Bees dancing over flowerbeds. Distant sounds of a guitar from someone’s open window.    He tilted his head toward the sun, gauging the hour by the light. Still plenty of time to kill. But he didn’t feel like wandering anymore. Across the street was another small café with floor-to-ceiling windows and a direct view of the university gates. The place was quiet, half full with students clacking away at keyboards or sipping iced lattes over textbooks. It looked like the kind of place where time slowed just enough to think. Perfect. Leon crossed the street in a few lazy strides, stepped inside, and claimed a seat by the window with a clear view of the main entrance. He slid into the booth with the ease of someone who made any space feel like home. One leg stretched out, the other bent casually at the knee. He ordered a black coffee. Nothing fancy and leaned back, letting his gaze drift out the glass. From this angle, he could see almost everything. The path Asta would take when he came out. The rows of hedges lining the sidewalk. Even the bench where students waited to meet friends or sat cramming until the last second.   Leon’s presence didn’t go unnoticed for long. He wasn’t trying to stand out. If anything, the hoodie and sweatpants made him look low-effort, understated. But the combination of sharp, effortless beauty and the quiet confidence he carried was impossible to ignore. His jawline shadowed by just the right amount of scruff. The way he moved like he owned the space around him. He didn’t need to try.  From across the room, a small group of students had taken notice. Whispers. A few not-so-subtle glances. Eventually, one of them broke from the group. A tall confident hirl, with dark lipstick and a designer tote, made her way over to his table. Her walk had intention. She stopped beside him with a practiced smile, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. “Hey,” she said smoothly, one hip cocked. “Sorry to interrupt, but… you look way too good to be sitting here alone. Do you—” Leon looked up at her slowly, brows raised in polite surprise. She faltered just slightly under the weight of his gaze, but pushed on. “Do you want to maybe grab something later? I know a place—” Leon gave her a small, apologetic smile. It was warm. Charming, even. But there was something in it that made his next words land without room for misinterpretation. “I appreciate that,” he said, voice low and even. “But I’m… more into guys.” He didn’t make a show of it. Didn’t smirk or wink. He didn’t need to. The girl blinked, clearly thrown off for half a second, then laughed awkwardly. “Oh. Damn. That tracks, actually.” Leon gave a subtle nod, then turned his gaze back to the window, signaling the conversation had ended but doing so without cruelty. She left with a smile still on her lips, maybe half embarrassed, half impressed as she rejoined with her friends with a shrug. The group collectively turned to peek at Leon again, giggling behind their cups. But Leon wasn’t paying attention to them. His eyes were fixed out the window. Waiting. The coffee in front of him had gone lukewarm, but he didn’t care. He sipped it anyway, lips twitching slightly when he thought about how Asta had practically stumbled into the building earlier, legs wobbling, hoodie swallowing him whole.   Leon had just drained the last sip of his lukewarm coffee when movement outside caught his eye. Through the café’s wide front windows, he spotted people stepping out of the university building,. And there he spotted Asta's familiar figur. Shoulders slumped in what looked like exhaustion. Relief tugged at Leon’s lips in a small, quiet smile. Asta was walking alongside Sora. The human that had made him and Asta get into their first argument yesterday. But luckily the tension from last night was gone. And the two were talking, heads tilted toward each other in that easy, familiar way friends shared. Leon pushed up from his seat, smoothing his hoodie with a practiced flick of his wrist. He tossed a quick nod to the barista behind the counter and stepped toward the door. His boots made a soft sound on the hardwood floor. Then the black van pulled up. At first, Leon didn’t think anything of it, just another car edging up to the curb in the afternoon flow of traffic. His view was momentarily blocked as he opened the café door, stepping into the sunlight. Then he heard the impact. A sickening crunch. A body hitting metal. Leon’s head snapped up—his instincts kicking in an instant before his brain fully caught up. Sora’s body flew backward, slamming against a parked car with bone-jarring force, his shoulder crumpling and a sharp, pained cry tearing from his throat. He slid down the side of the vehicle, clutching his side, eyes wide and panicked. Leon’s heart dropped into his stomach. Asta. He wasn’t in view. The van’s sliding door was already snapping shut. “No!” Leon was sprinting before the thought fully formed, weaving between students frozen in shock, his boots slamming against the pavement. “Asta!!” he roared, voice raw with fear and fury. Sora’s scream cut through the chaos just as the van peeled away from the curb. “THEY TOOK HIM!!” Sora screamed, doubled over, gripping his side. His voice was hoarse and cracking with pain. Leon tried to run after the van but it had already disappeared around the corner. Gone. He dropped to his knees as if he couldn't belive it.   ---------------------- Sora felt a flutter in his chest the moment Fang’s fingers laced through his. He also looked much better after a long nap. Sure he looked a bit grumpy about getting up but Fang was the stubborn one here. He had offered him his apart to let him rest. Still the quiet gesture of wanting to walk him there and holding his hand, said everything he needed. He walked beside him, matching his pace, occasionally sneaking glances at Fang from the corner of his eye. The silence didn’t bother him. He liked the calm between them, even when nothing was being said. When Fang finally spoke, Sora turned his head slightly, a soft smile tugging at his lips. “Just a couple hours,” he said. “Should be done before 5.” He liked that Fang always wanted to know. Always wanted to pick him up. Even when he acted like it was no big deal, Sora could feel the care behind every action. That’s just how Fang was the quiet, but steady type. As they reached the college entrance and Fang let go, Sora felt the absence immediately. And then—pinch. He squinted in protest, swatting Fang’s hand away gently. “Hey, You’re lucky I like you,” Sora muttered while rubbing his cheek. He still wasn't a fan of that pet name. But then he caught Fang’s smile, that real one that didn’t come out often. Sora’s heart practically melted.. okay he didn’t mind the pet name. He stood on his tiptoes, kissed Fang’s cheek quickly, and whispered, “Thanks. I’ll call when I’m done.” Then he turned, walking toward into the building, cheeks burning, grinning like an idiot. ----later---- Sora pushed open the classroom door, muscles tight with tension but heart lighter than it had been all week. The exam was over, or the first sets of them anyway. He exhaled sharply, running a hand through his hair, and glanced around the hallway, eyes scanning the crowd until they landed on a familiar figure. “Asta!” he called out, weaving through students. His best friend turned at the sound of his name. Sora reached him quickly, grinning. “How did it go? Think you made it?” Sora asked, his voice half-laughing as he adjusted the strap on his backpack. “I was this close to melting into my desk by the last question.” They fell into step together, heading down the stairs and out of the building. The early afternoon sun was bright, the air warm and buzzing with student chatter. Freedom was finally starting to feel real again. Sora rubbed at his eyes, still squinting from mental exhaustion. “Man, we need to celebrate. Coffee? Ice cream? Something cold and full of sugar. We've earned it, right?”   As they walked, they exchanged updates. Sora catching Asta up on his stress-fueled all-nighter, some textbook mishap that had almost derailed his study schedule. Asta said something in return, and Sora laughed, eyes crinkling at the corners. “Oh! Also~” he started, nudging his friend lightly with his shoulder, “I’ve been meaning to introduce you to someone.” He paused a beat. “My boyfriend.” Sora watched Asta’s reaction, then added, “He’s a little rough around the edges, but... he’s a good guy. And I want you to meet him at some point.”   The sunlight was warm on his shoulders as they stepped out to the sidewalk through the university gates. Both filled with relief, the first stretch of exams finally behind them. "Oh I actually promised to call him" Sora reached into his bag for his phone as he remembered. He just pressed the dial botton on his phone to call the other. When a black van suddenly stopped in front of them. A low roar. Tires squealing. The van shot out of nowhere, barreling around the corner with lethal speed. It didn’t slow down. It lunged at them, hopping the curb in one clean motion and skidding sideways across the pavement.  The van doors were already flying open before it even stopped moving. Two massive men leapt out in perfect synchronicity, dressed head-to-toe in black tactical gear. Full masks, reinforced boots, gloved hands. They didn’t say anything just launched at them. Sora completely forgot about the call he was making and dropped his phone. The thing still on. The first man rushed at Asta like a horned ram with his hands out. Sora tried to step between them, but the second man slammed into him like a wall of solid steel. He barely got his hands up before the first hit landed. Pain exploded as a forearm crashed into his stomach. Then another into his face. Sora staggered, coughing hard, but stayed on his feet. He ducked under the next blow, pivoted, and drove his fist into the attacker’s gut. He fought back more than most might have expect. His body moved on instinct, adrenaline and memory from years of quietly learning how to defend himself when no one else would. But it was like punching on a stone. The man didn’t react. Just turned and grabbed Sora by the collar.   Sora’s feet left the ground as the man hoisted him up, and threw him through the air. He crashed into a parked car windshield. The glass shattered, and he tumbled down the hood, hitting the pavement with a bone-jarring thud. White-hot pain ripped through his side. Something had cracked. Breathing suddenly felt wrong and sharp, his chest felt tight. But he didn’t stop. He dragged himself up, blinking through the haze. Asta was still fighting against both men now, legs kicking, arms swinging—but the first attacker had him in a chokehold, dragging him toward the van like he weighed nothing. Sora launched himself forward, slipping on shattered glass. “ASTA!” He reached the van door just as it started to close. He slammed his hand against the frame, trying to wedge himself between the steel. But the second man caught him again. A brutal punch to the gut. The world blurred. Then another to his temple. Stars burst behind his eyes. He collapsed to the ground, coughing, blood already in his mouth from biting his cheek.   ------------------------------   Leon he looked back at Sora. Some of the other students were already gathering around him. Someone said they were calling an ambulance. Leon made his way over hands hovering briefly before gripping the boy’s shoulders, checking his injuries as his mind reeled. “Hey, hey, stay with me,” Leon said sharply, his voice tight, trying to hold back the panic rising in his chest like wildfire. “What the hell happened? Did you see their faces?” “I—I tried” Sora coughed, pain etched across his face, sweat beading along his temple. “I tried to stop them..Asta..he was right next to me, and then they took him” Leon’s jaw clenched so hard it ached. A cold, electric pulse ran down his spine. His hands were shaking. Everything in him screamed to go track the van, tear the city apart if he had to. But he couldn’t leave Sora here, not like this. More people were starting to gather. Phones were being pulled out.  Leon stood, fists clenched, breath ragged. His gaze flicked down the road where the van vanished, and a growl built low in his chest. Something feral was building up inside. Whoever they were. They just made a big mistake. Because Leon wasn’t going to stop. Not until he got Asta back.   ------------------------------   Leon stood on the curb beside Sora, one hand clenched tightly around his phone. The sirens were still distant, too slow, too late. Sora was hunched next to him, wheezing softly, his breath ragged as paramedics tried to get him to stay still. But Leon wasn’t looking at him anymore. His phone lit up. Camill. His aunt’s name made the blood in his veins run cold. He answered without a word, jaw tight, heart pounding. The line was silent for half a breath—then her voice slipped through, sweet as venom. “Liam. I was wondering when you’d answer.” His knuckles whitened. “Where is he?” he growled. “If you’ve laid a hand on him, I swear” “Oh, please.” Her tone shifted, sharp and dismissive. “Don’t waste time with threats. You know exactly what I’m capable of, and if I wanted the boy dead, he wouldn’t have made it into that van alive.” Leon felt like he was drawing the eyes of nearby students and EMTs. He turned away, stalking a few paces down the street, away from Sora. His entire body was coiled tight with restrained violence. “Tell me where he is.” “You’ll see him again. If you do exactly what I want.” Her voice was calm, controlled. Cold. “You’re going to come home, Leon. Without your little rebellion. No more playing ‘human' and no more games. I’ll return him to his mother... eventually. But you will belong with my family.” Leon’s throat went dry, the word family felt like ash on his tongue. “You’re bluffing,” he said tightly. “You wouldn’t risk being exposed over this.” “You’re giving me too much credit.” Camill laughed softly, darkly. “This is about legacy. You were born to lead. You know that. And you will. With the right mate.” There was a long pause. “You will marry the female I’ve chosen. You will stand beside my husband and me. And in return? Your little human gets to live. Maybe even walk again, if he’s lucky.” Leon’s lips parted, but no words came. The rage simmering in his chest wasn’t hot. It was glacial. The kind of cold that froze everything solid, including reason. His voice came low and hoarse: “All of this because you want to finally adopt me? That’s what this is about? The council won’t accept this if they heard." Don't breathe dramatic. I can't have him hanging off your arm like some pet. If you do as I tell you, he’ll be... neutralized. Safe. Non-threatening. You’ll be free to do your duty. To be who you were always meant to be.” Leon closed his eyes. The leash. That’s what this was. Camill never wanted Asta dead. She wanted him to get to Leon. She knew exactly what Asta meant to him, and she was using that like a blade. “Make your choice, Leon,” she said softly. “Come home and be our heir... or I erase him from your life forever.” The line went dead. Leon stood in the middle of the sidewalk, phone still pressed to his ear, not moving. Then slowly, he lowered his hand. His jaw ticked. A muscle beneath his eye twitched. He didn’t speak. Didn’t rage. But inside. Something was breaking. And something far, far darker was waking up. Please Register/ Sign In, in order to see the links.
