What a movie! And I don’t say that in a good way.
The Thing About Harry is definitely watchable, it’s cute(ish), has a few good moments, it made me laugh more than some comedies and the characters are not terrible.
Still, there is a list of things that I did not enjoy.
Plot— The plot is pretty straight forward, cliché I dare say. I mean, it can’t possibly be more cliché than high school jock x nerd trope. And there are a lot of moments like that during the whole 85 minutes of the movie, cliché after cliché. I didn’t get even a glimpse of something original.
To that I must add the setting. The time jumps didn’t sit well with me, especially the last one. But, like I said, it’s watchable, and the comedy actually made things better.
Characters— Unfortunately, regarding the characters, I didn’t feel a lot of emotion coming at me, but I’m going to blame that on the length of the film, because the actors were good. Some scenes were rushed, the characters were quick to see their faults (which makes me wonder why they did the things they did (looking at you, Harry)), and I think it would have benefited this movie if it were lengthier. Mini series even.
Overall— It was fine. Bad romance movies are around probably since they started making them, it was just a matter of when we would get bad gay romance movies. Despite all that, I did enjoy it.
P.S.: Am I the only one bothered by the Sam scrolling through Instagram scene at the end?
