Since he couldn’t fit in with his class, after repeating a year, he declared that he wanted to have a “Sparkly youth” as well. To do this, he changed his hair and clothes to be more fashionable, and constantly checked for popular topics to stay in the know. In the midst of Ayumu’s life of making a facade, his homeroom teacher and stone-loving geology teacher Kouya Onihara says that Ayumu’s stone transformation is beautiful. Ayumu begins to become attracted to Kouya, who starts to give him advice.

Post’s Author Opinion:
Note: This is a personal opinion, it does not reflect YaoiOtaku’s official position towards the anime.

Part of the reason that the Kono Danshi series stands out is because of it’s stunning, gorgeous art style. Naturally, Kono Danshi, Sekika ni Nayandemasu keeps up the tradition and continues to awe with it’s pretty patterns, brilliant colors, and lovely details. This one is particularly beautiful because the boy in this story, Ayumu, suffers from a disease where his body will crystallize when he’s stressed. Seeing the dazzling, shining stones pop from the screen is incredible. I’ve never seen anything quite like this in anime. It’s hard not to go on and on about the lovely art style, but the story is definitely worth mentioning.

The audience isn’t the only one who dazzled by Ayumu’s pretty disease. One of his instructors, Onihara, can’t seem to keep his eyes and hands off of Ayumu. He’s a teacher who’s interest lies in stones so it’s only natural that he falls for someone who’s skin can crystallize. If you’re not into age gaps or teacher/student tropes then this may not be up your alley, but even then I’d recommend giving it a shot. There’s so much more to this story. It’s easy to relate to Ayumu and his desire to fit in. You empathize with him and possibly even see yourself in him. Some might even relate to Onihara, who has his own inner demons he needs to face. The story is crafted so beautifully; you feel sad when the characters are sad, you feel their pain and distress, and you feel their joy. All of this packed into only thirty minutes! So take some time out of your day and give this amazing OVA a watch.
