If a person wrote a novel, let's call this person X. And it had intense heavy petting and a violent rape in it with kissing would it be considered yaoi?

 

And let's say X is afraid of publishing this novel due to backlash due to their area where they live how would one go about publishing?

 

And if the characters are not main characters is it still considered yaoi?

The genre of a book is considered in regard of the main plot/story.

If there is a violence, even if one single scene, yes it would be rated as 18+

However, if the BL characters just appear in between some lines, no, it won't be yaoi.

It'd be a book contenting yaoi. But once again, one has to be aware of their own plot.

Is it a dark story? Is it a romance? Is it a sci-fi genre? There are many main categories.

But if the person decides to publish it, there are editors who can guide him/her.

It's a dark story

There is a love triangle between the antagonist, the friend of the main character and another character who starts off as an antagonist and then becomes a protagonist. These are reoccurring characters it does not just happen in one line. It starts off in the beginning occurs throughout the book

 

The rape is not described but it ends with blood
