Rene slowly opened his eyes as the memories faded, as the present came back, so many questions now rolled around in his mind as he learned more. That seemed to be how things were, the more you learn, the more you question. Some felt that was a bad thing, he did not.

 

But it was clear to him, what he chose was a path of brutality and trying to learn the ways of which this culture worked. It wasn't going to be easy, or even always fair, but even with all of those revelations it didn't cause him to second guess his own decision. He was attracted to Luis, everything about him, even the childlike and frustrating parts. It was what made him Luis and he liked that.

 

His desire to do his best to protect Luis remained unwavering and even with the dangers he learned about it changed nothing. He looked down at the mostly eaten bowl of soup, aware of Luis watching him. But he was aware, there were going to be people who would try to use him, just to get to Luis, which meant he had to be extra careful about who he talked to, what he said, and even his own daily life would have to be filled with caution.

 

“Welcome back, my Queen. I suppose by now you are aware how our 'society' works.”

 

Rene looked over and nodded quietly, he listened carefully as Luis spoke but tilted his head slightly as he noticed the frown on his face, he blinked and followed the direction of his gaze to the door.

 

“Rene, meal time is over. We have to go.”

 

Rene stood up and frowned he looked over at his suitcase and grabbed it, “I need to get dressed then....” he said as he grabbed a pair of pants and a shirt.

The vampire could not wait for the human to dress. He grabbed one blanket he had neatly folded on the sofa along with Rene. With not much of effort, if any at all, he picked Verona off the floor in a bridal hold, covering him with the blanket over head.

 

- We have no time for that. - so said Luis' steps grew undetectable, mute and fast. Just a few seconds took them to get to the back rooms where a middle sized window was. Luis opened it quickly, foot placed strong and firm onto the windowsill, ready to jump out.

 

But just before he jumped, balancing his own weight and Rene's on that windowsill, the vampire froze.

 

A wide grin stretched before his eyes, a few inches away from his father's face.

- Luis, when will you learn that windows are your typical choice of escaping and my typical choice of catching you right after you jump?

 

Two pairs of blue eyes stared at each other, before Zurashi looked down to Luis' arms where Rene was like a captured prey rather than like a bride.

 

- Planning to go somewhere with your Queen?

 

The young vampire jumped back and he forced Rene to stay under the blanket, hidden from eyes.

 

- Damn it. Damn him. - just as he was making his way to the front door, in hopes to escape his nagging father and probably all that prideful 'You finally drank blood and chose your Eve' thing, the door opened with a big slam.

 

- GEEEZ, I HATE SNOWSTORMS. - a loud woman's voice commented, patting her thick jacket off the snow.

- Pff, I told you we had to take the helicopter. - another young but male's voice responded.

- What helicopter in that weather, you idiot? - a third commentator stepped inside the house, all of them busy to clean the snow off.

- At least we reached it. - yet another commented.

 

As for Luis, he was basically frozen at a spot. Who would think that the 10 most royal vampires with Shinohara's blood gathered in a single room - something that rarely if ever happened.

 

Without realizing it, Luis kept the blanket over Rene's head even if Rene wanted to peek over.

Rene blinked as he found himself getting picked up and covered in a blanket. “Hey! What are you!?” He kept what he managed to grab in his arms as he found himself in Luis' arms.

 

We have no time for that.

 

Rene looked up at him as he frowned in annoyance at the sudden rush. He sighed and just allowed himself to be carried, “What is going on?” he said as he tried to figure out what was going on. What just happen to cause Luis to have the need to run.

 

He blinked as he found himself on the windowsill his hands gripping Luis' shirt since it didn't take long for him to figure out that Luis planned to jump out of the window. If he hadn't known that Luis was a vampire he would probably have thought he was crazy, but at this point, nothing seemed crazy to him.

 

But the anticipated jump never seemed to happen, something seemed to stop Luis and he tried to peer from beneath the blanket to see who it was. Rene didn't have to look though, for the voice he heard was all he needed to figure out who it was, and why Luis was suddenly so anxious to leave.

 

Luis, when will you learn that windows are your typical choice of escaping and my typical choice of catching you right after you jump?

 

Zurashi, Rene should have known since it was him who got Rene to head for Alaska anyway, he sighed beneath the blankets and clung to Luis a little more as though he was trying to hide. Though he knew it was useless.

 

Planing to go somewhere with your Queen?

 

The statement didn't seem to fill Rene with confidence, rather it made him a little nervous as to what might happen. Unable to see what was going on, he could feel Luis move, trying to find another escape route though the thought occurred to him that either Zurashi could cover any and all exits, or he had help. Neither thought was something he was really wanting to deal with at the moment.

 

It seemed as though he was going to be forced to deal with something though as he heard the front door slam, and voices that were obviously unfamiliar to him, but something told him this was not 'good' so to speak. Even though he couldn't see what was going on, he could feel that Luis was stunned and all he could do was try and remain as quiet and still as possible, even though that too was going to be useless.

[Saga]

The young vampire glanced to the side, eyeing the stairs leading upstairs. But he bet that with Rene in his arms, he could not use anything over-powering to escape else he would injury the human. Just as he was making his plan 'D', one of the vampires said.

 

- Ah! And if that's not Luis! - one by one they lowered their hoods, filling the room with beauty and hotness. After all that clan was not only the strongest but even the most beautiful.

 

- Eh!? Brother Luis? - a little kid looked from behind the elders, rushing with unbelievable speed towards the males, Rene and Luis.

 

Before Luis could react to the little Plavie, the little vampire kid tackled Luis and Rene to the floor.

 

- Plavie! How many times I told you to not charge into Luis as if you are to kill him!? - his mother started to scold the child but Plavie listened not. All that mattered now was to nuzzle into Luis but then...

SNIFF, SNIFF!

 

Plavie started sniffing like a little puppy, pressing into Luis who was still holding Rene, in results the kid actually buried itself under the blanket.

 

Amber eyes glowed in the dark, staring at Rene's beautiful pair of eyes. Plavie blinked a few times before getting a very loud, questionable yelp.

 

- EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEH!?!?!

Rene continued to shift his eyes around as he heard the voices, though he couldn't see anything but shadows from underneath the sheet. But he could tell more or less where everyone was by where the voices were coming from.

 

Eh!? Brother Luis?

 

He heard a young childlike voice say and not long after he felt himself hit and fall to the ground with Luis. “Hng!” he groaned as he was a bit disoriented from the fall. He scratched the back of his head as he shifted a bit.

 

Plavie! How many times I told you not to charge into Luis as if you are to kill him!?

 

Was all he heard before something started moving around under the sheets. He frowned and froze as he was suddenly face to face with the young vampire who he figured must be Plavie.

 

Stunned he wasn't able to say anything for the child let out a loud yelp of what he could only imagine was shock. All he could do was flinch at the sudden loud noise that pierced through the room.

[Saga]

The loud noise made the vampires cover their ears as their senses were way stronger than any human's ones. When Plavie jumped out of the blanket, he uncovered Rene completely - who, by the way, did not manage to get pants on in time.

 

The little vampire ran towards his mother, embarrassed from the close contact with the beautiful human. Plavie's cheeks quickly grew crimson against that pale white skin but cleverly found his 'safe place' behind his mother's figure.

 

The vampires stared at the human, of course not surprised. They all gathered to meet the so called 'new Eve' in the first place, so it was only the little Plavie who was left in the dark.

 

While Luis was still battling with his annoyance, that Zurashi, who by the way hated cold places, decided to drop by and have some family meeting. Luis would not be even surprised if he was forced to be stuck in the same house with his father for days - horrible.

 

The vampire completely forgot Rene who was missing pants and was probably trying his best to keep his composure in front of Luis' family. Shinohara sighed deeply but got startled as soon as noticed his father crouching next to them, Rene and Luis, with a painfully obvious grin.

 

- Ngh, just get lost. - Luis' palm reached for his father's face to 'facepalm' it but Zurashi just nonchalantly titled to the side, avoiding the eventual hit.

 

- So! - Zurashi got up, patting some snow off his coat, - As I told you, Luis finally woke to his new powers and has an official fiance.

 

Yup. That was why Luis wanted to grab Rene and run off.

Rene winced again and panicked a bit as there was a flurry of movements and the blanket fell off of him and revealed him to the vampires who were around. Rene frowned as he gathered up some of the blankets to try and cover up his lower half. He looked over at the small vampire who was clearly embarrassed and looked quickly around the room before looking down at the floor.

 

He could feel all of the vampires stare at him to the point that he felt like an animal at the zoo. He unconciously fidgetted with the sheet as he slowly looked at a very annoyed Luis. He couldn't blame him for being annoyed he wasn't real thrilled about this current situation either, but at the same time, he figured with word of him being Luis' Eve the family was curious.

 

He managed to wrap the blanket around his waist as he looked over, unsurprised to see Zurashi was quite pleased with how everything seemed to turn out. He felt bad for Luis at the moment, and even he himself felt a little bit annoyed at the fact that he was not allowed to spend a little more alone time with Luis before meeting the family.

 

So! As I told you, Luis finally woke to his new powers and has an official fiance.

 

It all became clear to Rene as to why Luis wanted to run away, and he felt bad for the slight delay to try and get some clothes. Yet, the thought occurred to him, that if Zurashi was aware of Luis' escape habits it wouldn't have made a difference.

 

Rene also hated that he was suddenly the focus in the room, like a giant spotlight had been placed on him, and if there was one thing he really hated, it was being the center of attention in anything.

After Zurashi's statement the room grew quiet. It was hard to tell whether the vampires were friendly or disliked being in the same room with Rene. Even Luis remained quiet, looking to the side. He wasn't expecting anyone to accept Rene but also was aware that they would not dare to speak their minds - after all, Luis always missed family meetings or vacations, he chose the estranged family relation himself.

 

The young vampire rustled around and got up, making his way to the kitchen.

- Rene, put utensils for our guests on the table. - so said Luis, gathered his hair and tied it up.

 

Of course that none of the vampires needed human food but with the years they found it sentimental, to gather and eat like humans did. In fact, they saw it as some ritual, rather than as a biological need.

 

Once the kitchen grew livelier, the vampires began to move around. Zurashi, of course, did not miss the chance to get in the kitchen and annoy Luis.

 

Meanwhile the vampires observed Rene who was ordering the table.

Rene remained silent and kept his gaze to his lap as he tried to not think about the other vampires, or even the deafening silence that was in the room. He suddenly felt like a small animal in a den of wolves. He wasn't so much frightened as more aware of what he was now a part of.

 

He also knew Luis was different and he wouldn't allow anyone to hurt what was “his” which both slightly annoyed him, as it did ease his nervousness.

 

Rene, put utensils for our guests on the table.

 

He heard the rustling and slowly looked over into his direction. He simply nodded and grabbed the pants that he had managed to grab and while still under the sheets slipped them on as quickly as he could.

 

He reached into the pocket and was happy to find he had left a hair tie in there. He got up and quickly pulled his long white hair into a simple and fast ponytail before heading to the kitchen and grabbing some utensils and napkins.

 

He wondered about the idea of them eating since the one thing he knew was they didn't really need to eat. But despite his curiosity he knew better. Now was not the time or place to ask such questions, but more so, given the chance to think about it logically, he would probably be able to figure out it was simply out of ritual rather than need.

 

But the feeling of their stares really caused him to be nervous and a little irritated. Nervous for he probably knew that the fact he was human was distasteful, and annoyed because he disliked the sudden intrigue like he was an animal at a zoo.

[Saga]

The meal was nothing fancy but still quickly and neatly prepared in just twenty minutes. Luis had to bear with his father's joyous stare and the nagging ''stalking'' around the house. If anything, everyone wanted to know what exactly were his new powers but the young vampire did not even know them himself.

 

Once everything was put on the table, the vampires took their seats. Now when their hoods,scarfs and hats were off, Rene could actually see how mesmerizing the whole Shinohara's clan was. One would wonder if there were dolls placed on the table. But the same way humans found them for beautiful and fascinating, so did Shinohara's vampires thought of humans - fragile like flowers, beautiful like flowers.

 

The quiet continued and only the gentle rattling of utensils against plates made noise. Of course Zurashi could not stop staring at Rene and Luis - after all, it was his dream come true, his son finally bounded. And even more, to a human.

 

Luis finally snapped.

 

- Would you please look to your plate, Zurashi? - the male looked up from his own plate to his father's direction.

- Oh, come on. This is such a boring family meeting. Rene! - Zurashi stood up and started walking around, making a stop every now and then while introducing the clan.

 

- This is Milena Shinohara, a great woman of many wonders. In fact, she is the leader of our clan in Russia.

 

The woman nodded lightly her head as a greeting, it was not exactly usual for vampires to eat with humans instead on them.

 

- This is John and his family, Lizzy and Plavie! A wonderful family that takes care of our affairs in England. - Zurashi's hand gently ruffled the shy Plavie's head.

 

The family followed Milena's example and nodded their heads to the new Eve.

 

- This is my sister, Mira Shinohara. Known as Misha, unlike me she takes after our father, shy and quiet. I guess I took my mother's love for 'being the one who always talks'. - Zurashi laughed as his sister glared at him before quickly bowing head to the new Queen, so to say.

 

- And lastly, these are the two brothers from Southwestern France - Martin Shinohara and Pois Shinohara. Lovely boys, actually they are just around Luis' age.

 

The brothers showed their respect with a slight bow of head. Little Rene knew but vampires never bowed, especially to humans. Luis wondered if Rene knew how great that was, if any vampire out there saw that right now - they would be at loss of words.

 

The vampires looked Rene's way ever so quiet and composed. None of them dared to make a remark, to ask a question or try to test where Rene's loyalty lay. If they dared so, it meant a direct disrespect to Luis and Zurashi, who obviously approved of this.

Rene helped anyway he could as he helped set the table before sitting down next to Luis. He managed to take a quick glance around the table finally putting a face to some of the voices, and realizing that they were all quite beautiful, which made him even more self conscious and even more nervous. How could he even compare to them? Well, he couldn't he was human, they were not and as such there was a huge difference between the two.

 

Still, despite the mesmerizing beauty he remained quiet, following Luis' lead not only out of his own desire to be polite, but because he knew just how annoyed Luis must be feeling right now. Not that he blamed him at all. But he still didn't want to add to the complications. He was already probably not in a good standing, so he simply wanted to try and make it through this dinner without causing more discomfort to Luis.

 

It was not helpful at the lazer focused bead Zurashi seemed to have on the two of them seemed a lot like a spotlight. He kept his focus on his own plate as he sat with Luis.

 

Would you please look to your own plate, Zurashi?

 

The statement and the sudden break in the silence caused him to tense up and look over at Luis. He also looked over at the older vampire who was clearly too pleased with himself and what had happened that it seemed he could hardly contain himself.

 

Oh come on. This is such a boring family meeting. Rene!

 

The statement and the sudden calling of his name caused him to tense up even more. He paused as he looked over at Zurashi wanting to scream at him to just leave him alone, but it was too late as the older vampire was eager to introduce him to the family.

 

He looked over and made notes of the different vampires, he could tell they were probably less than thrilled that he was Luis' Eve, even more so because he was a human. He felt something strange as each one bowed/nodded to him. It seemed odd, and after a moment of thinking it suddenly hit him that it probably had to deal with him being Luis' Eve. He wasn't sure how to respond or greet the others as he was in new territory.

 

He he looked over at the little vampire who he felt bad about frightening and felt a little guilty. He nodded slowly to each one as he was introduced acknowledging that he heard what Zurashi said but still remained quiet and as composed as he could just hoping that he could get through this dinner as quick as possible.

The suffocating silence accompanied with rattling utensils returned. Not like it was any different without Rene on the table. In fact, vampires rarely chit-chatted as it was not something they normally did - eating human food. And whenever they had to talk about something, it was either related to rule-breaker vampires or to Vatican.

 

Of course, Zurashi was not one to sit and be quiet for a whole damn day.

 

- So, I supposed you two did a wonderful job with getting to know each other. I mean.. - he shifted his stare from Rene and Luis to a quick glance around the room, - ...it's all in the air that you two had fun.

 

Luis chocked on his salad, forgetting that his dad's powers had to do with Air. Of course the old geezer knew that Luis and Rene screwed in that very same room and on that very same table.

 

- But anyhow, so I believe we all want to know..what is it? - the vampires' eyes sparkled up suddenly staring to the new couple. After all, if Luis element was stronger than Zurashi's, it meant that the Shinohara's clan will have a new leader. And even more, the new couple will have to take the current throne of the King and the Queen.

 

Luis slowly wiped his lips with a table napkin, his blue eyes avoiding any eye-contact.

 

- Is it fire? - asked Milena as she surely adored the power of flames.

 

- I.. - Luis put the napkin down and looked up, not sure how to tell the clan that he probably has no new powers, - I have no idea.

.

.

 

If before the silence was awkward, now it was unbearable. Did Luis just say 'I have no idea' for something that important!? If his uncle got to know that Luis had no powers, he'd just come and kill him without needing a reason to justify his actions. In the world of vampires, one who is gift-less even if royal should be banished.

 

- ..How..you don't know? Do you realize what that means!? - Lizzy stood up, glaring at Luis.

- Well, I know. Trust me, auntie. But the problem here is ...none of my ..damn business. - so did Luis stand up, clearly not interested in being their new ''king''.

 

Milena looked to Rene's direction.

- Is he marked? It could be he is not your Eve. If he does not have the Phoeni--

- ENOUGH! - Luis rose his voice, - What's with you all? Thirsty and hungry on all that idea of power and ruling. May I remind you that we are just pets of Vatican? Or you think that we have it all under control? At least when I banished my dear uncle, I knew for sure that he would never bow to the Vatican. What do you expect now? Some new king and queen to walk in and bring a new era? Please, off your horses.

 

- Of course we want Vatican down but may we remind you that if they fall...a WAR will break!? - Pois took part in the heated discussion. Of course it was ever like that with vampires, they were either too quiet or too loud.

 

- Right, a war. And you are afraid that you can't handle your own kind? - Luis shifted his already amber eyes to Pois' direction.

- Brother Luis, you have to understand that we are just that many of truly powerful vampires on this table. And one, thanks to you, is MISSING. Unfortunately, your uncle is leading a fricking damn army our way. And our only chance is either to fight along with Vatican or ...you finally take your damn seat on that fricking throne. - Pois could not hold his impulsive way of talking.

 

- Thanks to me?! - Luis pressed against the table, making it slightly move forth - Oh..excuse me for following your damn rules and saving humans while I was about to die with a hole in my stomach, FOR EXAMPLE.

 

While the vampires continued to fight, Plavie hopped off the chair and got under the table to make his way to Rene. The kid knew that all the adults there could jump each other any moment soon and the safest place right now seemed to be....Rene's lap. Yup, Plavie totally hopped on Rene's lap hugging the human. One could wonder if Plavie wanted to be protected or was protecting Rene. But the little vampire did not want them to fight.

Rene returned his focus to his plate as the silence returned, it was different from some of the dinners he had in his youth, but it was also obvious that this family was a lot different from his own. Though if one were to talk about his family now, he wouldn't have been able to honestly say that it wouldn't have been just as silent and this. Something he pushed into the back of his mind, something he didn't want to think about right now.

 

So, I suppose you two did a wonderful job with getting to know each other, I mean...it's all in the air that you two had fun.

 

The statement and the sound of Luis choking on his food caused him to slam his fork down and look over at Zurashi with an exasperated expression. Though his face turned slightly red at the same time since the evidence was clear in the air, and even the sight of the table caused him some embarrassment.

 

But anyhow, so I believe we all want to know...what is it?

 

Rene looked over at the vampire, his eyes sparkling with anticipation. He looked back over at Luis curiously.

 

Is it fire?

 

He again looked over at Milena before looking back at Luis.

 

I have no idea.

 

He frowned a bit but pushed his fork around as the silence returned. He was about to take a bite when the silence that he wanted did not last for long.

 

...How...you don't know? Do you realize what that means!?

 

Lizzy, he remembered who seemed to get quite angry which caused Luis to also get angry.

 

Well, I know. Trust me, auntie but the problem here is...none of my...damn business

 

Rene looked back at Luis and frowned, not only because he didn't quite understand, but it seemed to rile everyone up at the idea that either he didn't know or he may not have any powers.

 

Is he marked? It could be he is not your Eve. If he does not have the Phoeni--

 

He shot a glance back at Milena who looked back at him. He frowned and opened his mouth “I...”

 

ENOUGH!

 

He closed his mouth again and frowned as he realized him trying to get into the conversation to not only defend himself but mostly to defend Luis was not going to help the already heated argument.

Rene frowned at the statement he really had no idea about what was currently the situation but all he knew was he wanted to be with Luis, he wanted to protect him, and despite there being a lot that he didn't know about he wasn't looking to be the new queen, but if that was the case, he was willing to go along with it.

Rene looked over at Pois before looking again at Luis whos eyes were now amber colored, he knew Luis was quite angry now. He knew of the incident that Luis spoke up because he had just seen it, and he knew all too well what it took for Luis to not only defy and banish his uncle, but to also get the strength to do it.

 

He frowned again as the argument continued, he let out a soft sigh as he grew tired of looking back at for at everyone arguing over whether or not Luis had powers or not. It wasn't long before he felt a small body crawl into his lap. He looked at the young vampire who wrapped his arms around him in a hug. Rene couldn't help but wrap his arms around the young vampire as though he was going to protect him from the fighting. He looked at the young vampire before he frowned and suddenly found his own voice.

 

“Could we not do this in front of Plavie!!”

The room was filled with quite the heavy atmosphere, after all each of them had enormous powers and if they ended up fist-fighting, it wouldn't be a nice sight.

 

- No, Luis. What's with you!? All your life you kept defying whatever it is. The problem is that you don't consider yourself a vampire, nor one of Vatican's...Then what are you? A human? - John wanted to reason with the young vampire but a second later Luis was already gripping John by his shirt collar.

 

- You know damn well why do I defy you. You want to protect humans when you can't protect your own at all. - Luis growled

- Things sometimes require sacrifices! - Lizzy reached for Luis' shirt collar as well, the three vampires glaring at each other with amber glowing eyes.

- Sacrifices..? - Luis was about to mock them on but then Rene rose his voice and sounded upset, which made Luis flinch for unknown reasons.

 

“Could we not do this in front of Plavie!!”

 

The vampires turned heads to Rene who was protectively hugging Plavie who did not like when his favorite family fight, especially when his big brother Luis got angry.

 

Zurashi though was observing the whole situation from aside, staring at some specific spot on the table.

 

- Yeah.. - Luis sighed and let go of John. Lizzy followed and regained her composure. All of them sat back down, cooling off. For a moment there they forgot about the human which was weird, since when a human could blend so well with vampires?

 

Luis reached for his glass of water, noticing that Zurashi followed that specific gesture too carefully, it did bother the young vampire.

 

- ... What?

 

Out of them all, the only one who caught up with Zurashi was Milena. She quickly got up and walked to Rene, grabbing the human by the arm to expose his forearms.

 

- What are you doing, Milena? - Luis frowned.

- Not here.. If it's not here..then - the woman yanked Rene's shirt up, taking a glance at his back.

 

Luis put his glass of water on the table, clearly annoyed that someone else was touching Rene.

- Okay, I had enough. Get away from him. - just when Luis was attempting to get up from his chair, his hand was caught by Zurashi.

 

Luis looked questionably at his dad as all the rest except for Milena did as well.

 

Milena leaned slightly to whisper to Rene to move to side and sit on the couch in the far with Plavie. As apparently the vampires had to check something.

The arguing was getting more heated, and the idea of Plavies parents fighting with Luis irritated and upset him more. He did not want to see a fight, be involved in a fight, nor did he want the young vampire to have to deal with a fight either. He didn't even care about what they were fighting about right now either, there would be time to figure it all out later.

 

He soon found the vampires staring at him as he continued to protectively hold the young vampire in his lap. His violet eyes were sharp and angry. He glared at Luis almost scolding and sighed softly as he relaxed a bit as the tension in the room seemed to subside.

 

He smiled softly at Plavie as everyone sat back down and seemed to get calmer. He softened his look at Luis as he also seemed to agree to not fight in front of the young vampire. But just as things seemed to calm down, once again Zurashi seemed to poke the flames without actually saying anything.

 

The woman Milena suddenly got up and walked over to Rene who tried to comfort Plavie some more. He frowned as the woman grabbed his arm, “Hey! What are you doing!”

 

Rene tried to pull his arm away but soon found the woman yanking on the shirt he wore which was Luis' “HEY! If you want something ask!” He snapped as he got annoyed that he was being treated like a culprit of some sort.

 

 

Rene gave a slight sigh of relief as Luis spoke. He took the time to try and escape from Milena's inspection, still keeping Plavie in his arms. But he paused as he saw Zurashi grab Luis' arm, the gesture seemed to cause everyone to stop and look at the older vampire.

 

He looked over as Milena seemed to no longer be interested in looking over his back but told him to move to the couch. He frowned but nodded as he took Plavie to the couch. “Come on Plavie.” He said trying to sound reassuring.

Milena also moved next to Luis and put one hand on his shoulder, but that caused Luis to get even more confused. What were these both doing? Once they looked so serious the rest of the vampires caught on what were they doing. So they followed and one by one placed their hands on the young vampire. But nothing happened, he just stood there baffled.

 

- Okay...should I also put my hands on someone? - joked he, while touched by everyone there.

- Impossible...are you not in pain? - Martin asked, still squeezing his grip around Luis' forearm.

- .. Other than you squeezing me, I feel nothing else. What are you all doing, seriously? - sighed he.

 

Zurashi retreated his hand and started to laugh.

- So it is like that. - he looked over his shoulder, to the big window-walls, - It's not a snowstorm. It's a bloody rainstorm but due to the temperatures it is turning into snow.

 

Luis still got that confused look in his eyes, while brushing off the vampires' hands off of him.

- Right. It's pretty obvious, father. Since when do you think skies created ice, of course it's water. - the vampire sighed, reaching for his glass of water again.

 

- NO! - everyone reach for Luis to grab the glass at the same time.

 

Luis frowned and let go of the glass.

- Okay..? I am still not getting it but I suppose someone will enlighten me what's going on?

 

Zurashi got up and took his long coat off. The oldest vampire seemed somewhat happy.

- Who knew I'll live the day when I will be able to fight against a water user. - said he while rolling his sleeves up.

- What? - Luis' brows locked in a frown.

- I know, right? I have only heard stories about it. - Misha agreed on it as she started rolling her own sleeves up, and the rest of them followed the example.

 

- Wait, wait. I get the idea about my father wanting to fight me but what's with you all now? - Luis got up, walking backwards towards the window-walls.

- Brother Luis, don't take it personally. - said Pois with a smile on as punched the male so hard that he flew into the window-wall, pieces shattering all over the place.

 

As they finally forced him outside, Zurashi turned to Rene with a splendid smile on,

- My Queen, I must apologize for the mess. Why don't you and Plavie tidy up the table?

- Where are you going, uncle Zurashi? - Plavie peeked from under Rene's embrace.

- Oh, we are going to play with your big brother for a bit, you have to stay and help Rene with the cleaning. - Zurashi's gentle voice reassured them that they were not going to harm Luis, in fact they were excited to see his powers.

Rene watched quietly as their attention turned towards Luis, which still made him nervous. What were they going to do? He watched quietly but a bit nervous as he watched them all place a hand on Luis, but nothing seemed to happen and while Luis made a joke it didn't seem to ease the new tension that was going on.

The statement from Zurashi confused Rene, but it didn't seem to take long, as suddenly everyone grabbed for the glass of water Luis was about to drink. Something clicked in his mind as his eyes widened a bit, “....no way.....” Rene thought as he tensed up at the thought.

 

Who knew I'll live the day when I will be able to fight against a water user.

 

That was all Rene needed to verify his own thoughts. “Water.....” he muttered to himself as it all came together, the power they were wanting to know about had to be water. But he blinked as they all seemed to get ready for a fight. “W....wait...what are you....AH! Luis!”

 

He gasped as he stood up suddenly as Pois punched Luis through the large window. “Luis!!!”

 

My Queen, I must apologize for the mess. Why don't you and Plavie tidy of the table?

 

He blinked as Zurashi seemed so nonchalant at what just happened, he frowned but remembered Plavie was still hiding against him. Even Plavie seemed to be concerned as he asked Zurashi what was going on.

 

Oh, we are going to play with your big brother for a bit, you have to stay and help Rene with the cleaning.

 

The reassuring voice didn't fool Rene but it seemed that they were going to do what they wanted regardless he frowned and sighed, “Just.....please don't hurt him....” he said softly as he sighed again.

 

“C....come on Plavie, let's clean up....” he said softly.

Zurashi nodded head at Rene's request, reassuring the adult that nothing was going to happen to Luis. In fact it could not happen, if he were the water element - he was stronger than any of them.

 

Luis was trying to get up, the snow with broke glass pieces under his back scratched roughly against the vampire but it did not bother him. Once he stood up, he held his side. It wasn't hurting but he could tell that Pois punched him with all he got. If anything he had to be having one or two broken ribs now.

 

- You..punched me..? - Luis looked to Pois' way with a frown.

- Yeah, I did. But you seem fine to me.

- Right. Just let me show you how fine I ---

 

Just before he could finish his sentence from his left Musha and Lizzy attacked at the same time when Zurashi and John attacked from his right.

 

The young vampire jumped backwards, around 5 feet distance. It gained him a few seconds before he was attacked from behind by Martin. Luis blocked the darted at him high kick with one arm but felt a numb sensation against his back. Pois had his fist successfully landed against Luis' spine.

 

All of them jumped to different directions, watching at Luis who was just slightly coughing due to the sudden punch into his spine.

 

- What's... wrong with you, seriously? Are you trying to kill me?

- Kill you? It's not like it's working. I just tried to break your spine, Luis. And you are just..coughing as if you choked on your salad or something?

 

The vampires were making jokes about it but it really terrified them, none of their powers could be used. In fact, the reason why the put their hands on Luis was to try and see if they could activate their powers. So as a result, they could only fist-fight a water user who pretty much could neutralize all other elements.

 

- Okay..I get it. You think I am a water user. - Luis tried to reason with them, - But I feel nothing specific around water. Is it not like that for any of you? Say, Misha. You use fire, you love fire and whenever close to fire - you cannot contain yourself. Zurashi, you hate cold places especially windy places because you can't control yourself either. All of you feel rather passionate around your elements. Here I am standing in the middle of a snowstorm, feeling nothing about it. So please, don't just go assume that I am a water user.

 

The young vampire sighed as put his hands on each side of his waist,

- Really, you almost killed me because of your stupid---

 

Just when he was about to finish his thought, he felt a strong push against his neck. Zurashi got him at place, slamming him into the ground.

 

- Then we will make you passionate about it, to the point where you can't contain yourself.

 

Once Zurashi said that, Luis realized something. The only thing that he was passionate about and could not help himself around was Rene. If he though said that, who knew what they would make him do. And the idea of his family watching them have sex was so...off-putting.

 

Luis shoved his foot into Zurashi's ribs, careful about how much power he put into the kick but even if he tried to control it - he sent the strongest vampire straight into the forest.

 

Meanwhile Plavie was helping Rene with whatever Rene instructed him. Currently he was happy to show off with his vampire powers, carrying all the plates at once.

 

- Look, look, Rene! - Plavie suddenly got excited, staring to the windows, - Big brother Luis sent uncle Zurashi into the forest!!

Rene could hear parts of the fight and just whatever shouting echoed back into the house which worried him but Zurashi had assured him Luis would not be harmed but if his thoughts were correct water was considered the most powerful element. But even with that he was still nervous and concerned.

 

He tried to keep himself distracted by cleaning everything up. He smiled softly at Plavie as he asked him to put the leftover food away and put the dishes away to be washed.

 

He blinked as the young vampire carried all the plates he asked for in one trip. He smiled and chuckled as the young vampire seemed to be quite happy now. “Impressive!” he said happily.

 

He started to wash the dishes when he heard Plavie get excited. “What?” He blinked as he looked over to where the fight was taking place. He blinked as he saw what Luis had done to his own father. “Oh my god!” he gasped as he went over to the window with Plavie.

Everyone's eyes widened but so did Luis' ones, he did not expect such a power. The young vampire rolled over to stand on his knees, gazing into the forest. He knew his father was alright but rather than worrying about him, he was concerned with what the others said - could it be really that his element was water?

 

The snow began to fall gently as soon as Shinohara's agitated state calmed down. None of the other vampires dared to attack him anymore, after all he just flicked his father off as if it was nothing.

 

A few seconds passed and from the far one could see Zurashi's figure approaching. He was walking steadily and calmly, watching his son and the other vampires kneeling down with lowered heads. Of course they had to show respect to their leader, even if Luis managed to fight off his father - it did not mean that he had to get high on the idea that he was the strongest.

 

The oldest vampire stood before his son, watching the snow gently falling onto him, his beautiful dark hair decorated with white particles. Zurashi smiled lightly, his hand reached down to pat Luis' head - something he would only do in the past if Luis saved human lives.

 

The young vampire looked up, all confused about the reason behind the pat. Was the father praising his son for being strong? He could not help himself but ask.

 

- Why..why are you praising me, father? - he returned the rarity of gesture with a word he seldom used - 'father'.

- Then..let me ask you the same, Luis. Why are you kneeling when you are the strongest now? Should I not be the one kneeling? - Zurashi's voice softened.

 

Luis' amber eyes returned back to their blue-ish color, his whole being confused by that soft side he rarely saw in Zurashi. He knew his father loved him but it did not mean the oldest vampire often showed that love in the open.

 

- ..I cannot and will not make you kneel, father. I desire no throne, nor power.

- Heh, so what is it that you desire, Luis? - his father shifted around, kneeling on one knee before his son. Two pair of blue eyes staring at each other.

 

- ... - Luis was never asked that, in fact, no matter how much he tried to rebel against his father, Zurashi never asked that question, - I...I want to retire, father. I want to disappear and be a normal person, I don't want to be 'the heir of the vampire throne'.

 

Zurashi's eyes adopted a sad sparkle after hearing his son's desire. By law vampires had to obey the desire of the strongest but if Luis retired now, many dangers would surface and that was not only about the vampire's world but also regarding the human's.

 

- Do you love humans, Luis?

 

The young vampire looked to the side, it was a hard question to answer to or rather, a hard question to be honest about.

- I don't dislike them.

 

Zurashi chuckled lightly and flopped on his butt, he sat comfortably on the snowy ground. Of course, Zurashi wasn't only a leader for the show, he wasn't only the strongest but also the wisest.

 

- Listen, Luis. You are the strongest vampire now and we have to obey your desire. If tomorrow you wake up and say Zurashi's law is no more and you begin killing humans off - no one can get in your way because it will be Luis' law.

- I would never--!!

- Listen, son. It is only us who know about your powers. In fact, 'water element' is hard to detect. None of us noticed your powers, it was only thanks to the water on the table I noticed its trembles that lead me to a mere assumption back then. You know vampires are weak to their element, they cannot contain themselves around it. Even I find it hard to not get wild in these mountains where the wind reigns. However, water is not like that. Water will not contain itself around you.

 

Luis frowned and flopped on his butt as well, sitting across Zurashi.

- What do you mean?

- You did not sense us before we got too close, right? It is not because you became 'power-less', but water does not fear other elements. It will provoke you to fight, to use it. And if you do not, it will go wild as soon as you are around it. Even if we keep silent and let you go, Vatican will not. Your uncle will not. Despite having no weakness in your powers, you do have one in your heart, son.

 

The frown on Luis' face deepened,

- One weakness? What weakness do you see in my heart, father?

- Humans. - Zurashi lifted his chin and looked to the house's direction where Plavie and Rene stood, watching them.

 

The young vampire caught on quick, his father was talking about Rene.

- You think..

- I do not think, I know. And there is something you have to understand. No one can kill you now, you are the true 'immortal vampire' as water is life itself. But there is one way to kill you.

- You don't mean...he..

- Yes, that's right. The only one who can kill you now is Rene. Unfortunately, everyone in Shinohara's clan know about that weakness in water users, including your uncle.

 

- But Rene would never!!! - Luis rose his voice and stood up abruptly. What was his father saying!?

 

- A mere human...a mere human cannot.. - the young vampire was not upset by the idea dying by the hand of a human but rather dying by the hand of the one he liked and cherished. He was not sure whether he loved Rene so deeply but there was something in his heart that got vulnerable whenever Rene was around.

 

- "A mere human"? You would not hold a mere human, Luis. It's always like that with water users, the power manifests too late, they don't drink blood, they don't bound themselves to anyone but the ones they want to share their life with or rather....give their life to.

- You mean...that the element itself has to find its "killer" before it manifests!? - Luis' shock was too obvious.

- Yes, that is what I mean. You not only chose your 'beginning' but also your 'end', son. And I, as your father, cannot watch you die.

 

- Wait..what do you mean? You won't break your own law...right? - Luis stepped back, protectively in Zurashi's way, separating him from the house's path as the young vampire was afraid they would jump Rene.

- Of course, I will not. But between your uncle and the Vatican, I believe the safest bid is on the church, son. Rene should be put under their wing to keep him away from your uncle, else he will get to you.

- What?! But the Vatican will do the same with Rene! They will use him!! - Luis became agitated, he did not want to see Rene in these filthy white uniforms the Vatican wore.

 

- But they can't use Rene against you, right? You have not done anything to Rene which would turn him against you, right? - Zurashi wanted to reason with Luis.

 

- I have not...I have never harmed a human, father. You know it!

- I know, I know. I had to ask. Luis, it is better if Rene gets protection from the Vatican while we are dealing with your uncle. Your uncle ways are different. He will not care about manipulating his way to you, he would simply kill Rene off just to get you lose sanity. If you want freedom after we deal with Vergil, I will ...I will free you. I will banish you from the clan and you will be able to live as you want.

 

Luis lowered his head, somewhat these words saddened him. But that was what he wanted, to be banished and freed from any laws.

 

- So..all I have to do is...let Rene go?

- Yes, and help us fight your uncle.

- But...I need to be around Rene...I.. - Luis stopped, he was not sure why was he saying that, - I..I don't think I can fight a war without Rene by my side, father.

- No one said you can't sneak into his church dorm's room, right? - Zurashi grinned widely, cunning as ever.

 

Luis was somewhat relieved that Zurashi did not forbid him from being around Rene. But he did not know how to explain everything to Rene. What if the human decided it was too much of a burden and ditched him? What if he thought Luis was too troublesome and hard to be with? Such thoughts scared him, so his head lowered down once again.

 

Zurashi knew his son the best, his grin switched to a soft smile and he sighed out,

- Ah, really. I lived the day to see my son in love. I will talk to Rene, as for now...you have to disappear for a month, Luis.

 

The young vampire jerked his chin up - 'disappear'?!

 

- What do you mean? Why?

- Because within the first month, your powers will be impossible to tame. You have to be alone and far from any kind of contact, be it with a human or a vampire. Stay in these forests. We will be leaving today and hopefully Rene will follow us, so keep them tamed until we leave.

 

- Then let me explain to him that I will---

- No. - Zurashi cut his son's sentence off, - You will make it harder on you, on Rene and on us if you show a moment of weakness. Stay away for a month, after that you can visit Rene before you come to report to me. - Zurashi chuckled, knowing fully well how hungry for blood and sex his son would be in a month.

 

- But Rene deserves to hear it from me--

- Rene deserves to be safe first, don't you agree? - Zurashi's serious tone returned.

- ..Yeah..I know, just..

- Are you afraid that your lover will dump you?

 

Luis' blank stared his father. He bet Zurashi was having fun, judging by that teasing grin on his father's face.

 

- Why would I be afraid? I am not afraid.. I will ...it is just a month of training. I am sure he will understand. - Luis started to comfort himself on his own.

- Right, right. - Zurashi got up as well and patted the snow off his pants, - I will make sure to tell him that.

 

The other vampires rose up as well, quietly about to follow Zurashi back to the house.

 

- Wait.. - Luis spoke with his back turned to Zurashi, - ...Tell Rene to look for a small box in my wardrobe, I'd like him to have it with him.

- I understand, I will tell him that. And Luis.... - Zurashi's voice grew quieter, - ...don't overdo it..

 

So said Zurashi left with the other vampires, heading into the house. The snow started whipping harshly once again, engulfing Luis' figure into a complete whiteness.

 

Once the vampires walked inside the house, Zurashi looked to Rene and said with a gentle smile on,

- Rene, can you follow me upstairs?

Rene watched both in awe and a little nervous at the attack he was nervous because he hoped Zurashi was alright. Rene figured he was, but it was just in his nature to be concerned, especially since he liked the older vampire even if he infuriated him at times.

 

But it wasn't long until he eventually saw some movement in the forest and Zurashi emerged walking calmly. A sigh of relief escaped his lips as he saw the older vampire was alright. But he noticed everyone kneeling before Luis, something that seemed odd to him, but it meant what they were talking about was right. His power was water, something that he grew up knowing was impossible to beat,

 

Rene watched as the older vampire patted his son on the head, something that seemed to surprise and confuse Luis, and caused him to tilt his head slightly as he watched what seemed to be a touching moment, though it was probably more than that.

 

It seemed like the fighting was over as their thoughts were confirmed and he noticed a conversation going on. It was a time like that he really wished he would read lips or hear what they were saying.

 

He noticed some sad body movement and Luis seemed to get agitated and he wondered more and more what was being said, but he could guess it was something not good with the deep frown that Luis got on his face. But it wasn't long until they suddenly looked in his direction which caused Rene's body to stiffen and stand up straight.

 

'W...wait....is it me? I....is there something wrong with me?' he thought quickly as his eyes widened and get a concerned look. The thought caused his chest to tighten as the sudden thought of them no longer approving of him seemed to cause him some discomfort. He didn't want to leave Luis' side and he quickly tried to think of some argument to allow him to stay by Luis' side if they were to try and say he wasn't fit to be with the young vampire.

 

The thought seemed to get him more nervous as he watched Luis place himself inbetween the vampires and the house, a sudden wave of fear washing over him. He knew he had no chance of fighting off vampires but he didn't want to just allow himself to be killed for no reason.

 

But things seemed to calm down as Luis' body language also seemed to calm down, but the saddness that seemed to appear again did not ease his fears or concerns, again he cursed at the fact that he couldnt hear what they were talking about because all he was doing was assuming and guessing, something he knew wouldn't help.

 

He watched more as he tried not to jump to conclusions but just from Luis' body language he was not feeling any ease or confidence that something was wrong, something that he wasn't going to like when he heard it.

 

But it was more confusing as he watched everyone but Luis come back to the house. Rene took a step back as he got another wave of concern and nervousness.

 

Zurashi smiled at Rene which didn't ease any of the dread he felt.

 

Rene, can you follow me upstairs?

 

The request seemed sad and despite the fact that he really didn't want to, he knew if he wanted answers and to find out what was going on, he had to follow the vampire. He frowned deeply as he nodded and set down a towel so he could follow the vampire.

The old vampire made his way upstairs, aware of Rene's nervous heart-beating. Under any circumstances, anyone would get nervous or confused if they were asked by a vampire to follow him. Of course, Zurashi did not want to hurt Rene nor wanted to see his son's grieving face in case Rene was hurt.

 

Once they reached the bedroom, Zarkovnjii made some space to let Rene walk in first. Once the male did so even if his face was drawn with concerns, Zurashi followed behind. The door did not need to be closed, not like the other vampires could not hear the conversation with their super-sensitive hearing. In fact, it was the same for Plavie. Even if he wasn't there with the other vampires, he knew what choice his big brother Luis had to make. Maybe that was the reason why the bright vampire boy was so quiet ever since.

 

- I am sorry for suddenly appearing and ruining your vacation with Luis. - the vampire had to apologize and it was not out of politeness, - But we are at war, Mr. Verona.

 

Zurashi walked to the bed and sat down, his guard completely down around the human.

- For a very long time our clan is fighting on the human's side, so please, do not fear us.

 

The vampire lowered his head down, it was hard to ask that person to abandon his life style and live as is told for the time being. Humans were creatures of surprise, one could never predict them and Zurashi feared that.

 

- Mr. Verona...I would like you to help us and Luis in that fight, but in order to do so...you have to become a member of the Vatican's organization. That way you will have full protection and Luis can fight without worrying about you.

 

Zurashi kept his head down, making a brief pause to let the human decide whether he wanted to have that conversation or not. Of course he would not keep the human against his will but he had promised his son that Rene would be protected.

Rene followed Zurashi silently upstairs, he really hated the fact that he was alone, that Luis was not with him, and he really hated the thoughts that were going through his head about what could possibly happen. It was torture to him, but he also trusted Zurashi and knew that Luis wouldn't allow him to be hurt.

 

He looked up at Zurashi as he stopped and allowed him to enter the room first. He frowned and bowed his head solemnly as he entered slowly. He was glad that Zurashi didn't close the door, but he also knew that there was nothing to hide since everyone downstairs would be able to hear anyway.

 

I am sorry for suddenly appearing and ruining your vacation with Luis. But we are at war, Mr Verona.

 

The statement caused him to pause for a moment, but he could easily guess who they were at war with. “.....I....I see...” he said softly. He looked up at Zurashi softly, “I don't fear you....well, not all of you....definitely not you or your family....” he said honestly. He didn't care if anyone believed him or not, but it was true.

 

Mr. Verona...I would like you to help us and Luis in that fight, but in order to do so...you have to become a member of the Vatican's organization. That way you will have full protection and Luis can fight without worrying about you.

 

Rene's eyes widened a bit, “I would do anything to help you and Luis!” he said without hesitation but the second part of the request was something that struck him as odd. “Th....the Vatican...? B....But why? I'm not religious, I frankly dislike religion in general.....” he said bluntly. He had actually turned his back on religion and God many years ago, but it was a discussion he wasn't wanting to have.

 

“Wh....Why do I have to go someplace that I don't wish to go to?” He asked, “Why can't I stay at your place, or....even here.....or....better yet, why can't I just stay with Luis!” he said as all the questions came out at once. “Why do I have to go someplace that's full of hypocrisy, and not with Luis! The only person who's side I want to be by!”
