usually when an english word ending with "city" or "ty" the tagalog of with would become ---sidad or ---dad

sample RESPONSIBILITY - responsibiliDAD

Satou

Tagalog (and some of the dialects) borrowed a lot of words from other countries. We have the indo-malaysian not so sure what it was called... oen term which came there is the word "langit". ofc spanish as well, but the dialects borrowed much more word than tagalog. In waray, we say "pintuan' as "portahan".. and i'm sure everyone knows how very much spanish chavacano is *listens to porque* ... we also borrowed terms from Taino and Arawak.. i forgot which is which but "Caimito" and "papaya" came from them

YaoTaku98

The Language "Filipino" is the overall language of Filipinos, so it already includes different dialects from different places of the country and it also includes mga hiram na salita (borrowed words) from other countries from when the Philippines was but a colony.

The Language "Tagalog", on the other hand, is a dialect which is part of the overall "Filipino" language. It does not include Waray, Ilocano, and other dialects or the borrowed words we acquired from influences of other countries.

rainbowman

`tol = `tol from the word 'utol' which is 'salitang balbal'(street wordslang) meaning 'kapatid'(siblingsisterbrother) mostly used by males.

rainbowman

'apir(highfive)' is from 'appear'.

you know in magic shows when magicians clap their hands and say "APPEAR!!!"

the clapping made children say 'Apir' to 'high five'(as a sign of coolness).

seiragureisu

"ANO NA?" = WHAT NOW?! usually deliver in a sarcastic tone someone's in a hurry or waiting.

YaoTaku98

"kamusta""kumusta". The word was taken from the Spanish(?) "Como esta?" which means the same thing so, transforming it and making it into Tagalog's own makes it into "Kumusta" so the correct one is Kumusta but "Kamusta" is also officially used in writing but not in pronunciation.

Musica

"kung anong sulat siyang basa, kung anong basa siyang bigkas"

[how it is written is how it's read, how it is read, is how it is pronounced]

so,, you just pronounce tagalog words with a clean vowel sound,,, no transformation (example.. baby, post) or something...like how we do

a and o in... ohayou!

e in pretend...or egg

i-pick ... u-push

Musica

Ko could also be equal to MY.. as in..ito ay bahay ko.. this is my house

..Sila could be THEY.. as in..Sila ay mga mababait na bata.. they are good kids

rainbowman

"po" and "opo" is a sign of respect to elders or higher leveled people.

Specially within relatives. When you're talking to an old man or woman, you should

definitely say "po" after a phrase or sentence. Hnn

ate Sah, how should I explain where to put "po" in a sentence? XD

"Opo" on the other hand, is a "Yes" in a respected way.

Ex.

Mom: Ginawa mo na ba assignment mo?

Have youdone your assignment?

Child: Opo.

Yes(in a submissive manner).

rainbowman

When we say something superlative we use to double a word to say it.

Like "I love you so much" we say it as "Mahal na mahal kita"

Mahal - Love (from rootword 'pagmamahal')

SO when we say "I'm so angry at you" we say it "Galit na galit ako sa'yo"

SUPERLATIVE *u*

Another thing.

Very means "Sobra"

Very slow - Sobrang mabagal

Very fast - Sobrang mabilis

So with the LOVE thing we can also say "Sobrang mahal kita"

which also means the same as"I love you sovery much"

seiragureisu

nowadays.. when Filipino love someone or had a crush on someone.. they'll burst out bluntly.. "walang paliguy-ligoy pa!" ( nomore hitting around the bush.. just straight to the point)

before Filipino was said to be TORPE (shy-type) since time is gold... some Filipinos adapt some western traits.. they didn't want to missed their chances.. so they go straight for it...or they might regret it...

rainbowman

"torpe" is a slang word.

In english it means "shy" or "dork"(it is used to insult someone's skill or appearance)

so let's go with "shy" XD

TORPE: It describes a guy who is shy enough to approach a girl he likes.

rainbowman

REAL FILIPINO MEN ARE SMALL, DARK SKINNED with FLAT NOSE.

That's a real sign of FILIPINO ancestors.

to some they are ugly, but not all. We have this thing "paglilihi" I don't know the english term

sample: like when you're mom used to crave for something that turns out you get to inherit that thing when you're born.

Ex. My mom used to love apples that's why I have an apple-shaped face.

Ex2. My mom loves monkeys that's why I love climbing trees.

weird samples aren't they XD

Ningen

Gillette - Shaver

Musica

Ningen i want to make my case on the UGLY ang mga lalakeng pilipino (male Filipinos)... but i need to summon,, didz015... she's from the same area as i am,,, hehe all i can say is... marami akong nakikitang poging Igorot,,, (i see a lot of good looking Igorot) and... Wow! one of them, made me understand the meaning of "bishie" in real life...

you should see my Tatay's... haha... real Filipino nose.. i have it too..
