Species suggestion, would either a dragon or phoenix in a human form work? If that is no good, how about an element spirit? (Meaning, an element in a living form. Or just things that they want to do together, for example, um, have a picnic, talk about stuff, get to know each other (for that it could be the old tenants, when they were new, like, a flashback side story kin do of thing, so that now in the time its now, they actually do really know each other), or whatever the people who are doing the side story decide on.
