Joseph Shepard

Vanguard

The Vanguard is a powerful combatant, able to combine the offensive powers of the Adept and the Soldier. They have access to various weapons and armor, as well as biotics. Gameplay focus is on taking down enemies with quick and brutal force.

Vanguards are the front line of the squad. Their biotic powers focus on combat potential - disabling the enemy, making their armor ineffective, and shielding themselves from harm so that they can get close enough to go to work. The Vanguard wears light armor to start, though they can upgrade to medium armor, and they may gain specialist training in shotguns and pistols. All Krogan Battlemasters, including Wrex belong to this class.

Biography:

Colonist: You were born and raised on Mindoir, a small border colony in the Attican Traverse. When you were sixteen, slavers raided Mindoir, slaughtering your family and friends. You were saved by a passing Alliance patrol, and you enlisted with the military a few years later.

Sole Survivor: During your service, a mission you were on went horribly wrong. Trapped in an extreme survival situation, you had to overcome physical torments and psychological stresses that would have broken most people. You survived while all those around you fell, and now you alone are left to tell the tale. The Sole Survivor's unit was slaughtered in a thresher maw attack on Akuze.

Weapon:

Pistols / Shot Guns / Sniper

Random Fact:

Shepard was born on April 11, 2154, is a graduate of the Systems Alliance N7 special forces program (service no. 5923-AC-2826), and is initially assigned to the SSV Normandy as Executive Officer. Shepard later becomes the first human to join the Spectres, an elite special task force for the Citadel Council.

In the year 2148, explorers on Mars discovered the remains of an ancient spacefaring civilization. In the decades that followed, these mysterious artifacts revealed startling new technologies, enabling travel to the furthest stars. The basis for this incredible technology was a force that controlled the very fabric of space and time.

They called it the greatest discovery in human history.

The civilizations of the galaxy call it... MASS EFFECT.

35 years after humans discovered the ruins of an ancient spacefaring race called the Protheans on Mars. With the technology from these ruins, humanity learned the secrets of mass effect physics and element zero, unlocking faster-than-light travel. Humans also discovered the mass relay network that threaded the galaxy, permitting instantaneous passage across thousands of light-years. Humanity began its journey among the stars, encountering various alien races and establishing itself on the galactic stage.

Two years after Commander Shepard repelled invading Reapers bent on the destruction of organic life, a mysterious new enemy has emerged. On the fringes of known space, something is silently abducting entire human colonies.

With him dying at their first encounter with this enemy, the galaxy had thought that Commander Shepard was no more. But Cerberus, a ruthless organization devoted to human survival at any cost, found his remains and brought him back through Project Lazarus. Shepard is now working with this organization to stop this enemy.

To even attempt this perilous mission, Shepard must assemble the galaxy's most elite team and command the most powerful ship ever built. Even then, they say it would be suicide. Commander Shepard intends to prove them wrong.

Looking through the front window stood a man in his battle uniform. The raven tucked his hands behind his back and inhaled deeply remembering that day he was brought back by Cerberus. It was barely a week ago. Looking down at Joker and gave a small smile, he was so happy to have this man back that was for sure. The best damn pilot in the galaxy and one person that would tell him straight up what they thought.

"Take us in Joker," he patted the man on the shoulder then turned to head back into the ship. He passed a couple people working on the ship that were part of Ceberus so he mostly ignored them. They offered him help and way to fight the Reapers but he couldn't trust them in the slightest.

Walking up to his group he nodded his head, "Lets go, Mordin, in case Vasha is injured or needs help I want you with me."

"Can do Shepard," the Salarian made sure his weapons were ready and nodded to the man.

"And Garrus," Shepard trusted this Turian with everything he had. This man would never betray him and would always stay by his side. Also he was a very fine warrior.

Turning to head into the other ship he had a funny feeling about this... He was still a little upset about finding Liara back on Illium, and she wouldn't join him. Instead she was working in very illegal ways and endanger herself. That was when his heart fell and he felt he needed to move on. He understood to her it was two years but to him... only minutes.

The doors opened and he headed on board the ship to search for the next person on their list. Vasha. The files he was given didn't say too much besides experimenting a lot but who knows how this person was now.

"Please!" Kuril, the turian warden of Purgatory, a maximum security prison, begged as he crawled away from the robed figure. "If you want information about Cerberus, there are files in the data base!"

"Those files are useless." The figure whispered, advancing towards the maimed warden. "What I need is the location of the Illusive Man."

"I don't know where he is! No one does!"

"Then you have ceased being useful." Were his words before there was a sickening crunch as blade passed through ribs and twisted, ending the life of the galaxy's most secure prison's warden.

A masked face turned towards a blinking signal on a nearby console, requesting permission for a vessel to come aboard. The figure walked towards it and couldn't help but admire the view that he saw through the control room's glass. Destruction. The prison with the highest security lies in chaos. All security personnels and some prisoners lie in misshapen corpses and red stains against walls.

"SSV Normandy, commanded by one Lieutenant-Commander Shepard." The figure narrowed his eyes as one entry caught his attention. "Pick up authorized by Cerberus." He mumbled the name as if it was something foul and needed to be cleansed. Gloved fingers emerged from the voluminous sleeves of his robe and pressed a combination of buttons.

"Accepted docking permission. Security Mechs enabled. Priority Alpha. Engage all hostiles." The melodious voice of the station's VI stated.

"You and Cerberus will die in my hands." Were his words before the figure melded into the shadows.

((Forgot to write before so I knew I have Tali, Garrus, Jacob, Miranda, Mordin, Grunt, Thane, Kasumi, and Samara. Just realized I took all of my characters lol. That was my typical group until I got Jack then I had her instead of Mordin))

Shepard looked around the vessel seeing the horrible condition it was in. What the hell happened here? Taking out his gun the group moved forward into the base, moving quickly but also taking their time. A couple of men came around a corner and tumbled to the ground. Shepard came over to them, "what happened here?"

"It's coming... we couldn't stop...ughhhhhh..." the man slumped to the ground.

Standing Shepard continued forward, "EDI are you getting any readings of life forms on the ship? Which way should I head?" A mech came around the corner and he shot it a couple times and sent it to the floor before it had him to shoot them. This was a horrible situation and he needed to find Vasha before it was too late.

The eyes behind the mask narrowed as the figure noticed the Salarian scientist that accompanied the group. He did not like scientists. Especially since this one was a salarian. Their particular species may have nothing to do with what the figure was but because of their intelligence Cerberus had the plan to make people like him. It was a small matter in concern but he did not care. Everyone was at fault.

He jumped down from five flights of stairs without any apparent effort before walking past a couple of blood-stained hallways. The figure entered a door and the lips behind his mask smirked as heavy artillery mechs were presented to him. He approached the operations control and bypassed five firewalls in three seconds.

"Alert! Heavy security mechs activated. Personnels are advised to remain in their quarters." The VI announced and the figure cursed as the program gave another warning.

He looked out the window and had to marvel at the ship, that was SSV Normandy. It was elegant and the thruster propulsion systems were nothing that he'd even seen. He melded once again into the shadows as he heard the sound of gunfire just outside the room he was in. He knew that they would come. And he intended for them to die, just like everyone else that worked for Cerberus.

Shepard grit his teeth and turned another corner taking another group of small mechs out. The raven glanced around a corner and saw the heavy mech. These were always a pain in the ass to take down. They just had to distract him in one direction and take him out from the other. Pointing to some crates he nodded to Garrus.

Garrus nodded back and looked at Mordin signalling to some cover for him as well. They waited until the mech turned and ran to their cover. The heavy mech turned and scanned the area. Seeing life signs it began shooting. Irritated those things had those kind of scanners, Shepard lifted his gun over the crate and started firing in it's direction to distract it. Garrus looked over the crates and shot at it with his rifle.

Shepard repeated the process of distracting it until BAM, the heavy mech shot a large missle at him causing his hearing to ring and a large chunk of crate hit his arm. Angry now he stood and started walking to the side as he shot at it. Hitting some tubes for cooling and then finally the heavy mech started to fail. He really wasn't liking this stop.

Diamond pale eyes narrowed as he spotted a familiar face among the trio. Archangel of Omega. The turian might have not known him but he certainly knew the guy.

Purgatory was a headquarters of the Blue Suns and for the past weeks these dead imbeciles often spoke the name Archangel and although none of them knew the face of the man, he certainly knew and recognized that armor as the very one that Archangel had. Then he looked back at the salarian and understanding dawned upon him. That was Doctor Mordin Solus, the one who made a clinic in Omega. He narrowed his eyes. He needed answers.

He jumped from the pressure tube that he was crouching on, back-flipping and bringing his sword down in perfect vertical slice against a heavy mech before dashing to the side and using a shockwave to topple another heavy mech. He rolled to the side, his robes almost grazing a missile as it sped past him, and erected a barrier around him as he prepared on his free hand the technique that Aria herself had taught him.

There was still one heavy mech left and about four smaller mechs scattered around it. A missile hit his barrier and he used the smoke the explosion generated for him to roll to the side and hide behind one crate, before jumping over it and throwing the concentrated ball of biotic energy. He watched in fascination as the ball made contact with the heavy mech and exploded in a virulent color of blue, taking the remaining squadrons of mech with it.

He turned, sat on that same crate before resting his chin against the pommel of his sword. "So Cerberus has the infamous Archangel and Doctor Solus working for them." He looked at the raven and lips grinned behind white mask. "And judging from the visible marks in your skin, you must be The Commander Shepard, brought back from the dead and is now also working for Cerberus. Pray tell your objectives of coming here before I kill all of you."

Shepard was surprised by the sudden explosions and seeing a person taking out the mechs. He was always happy for the help. Once they were down he helped shoot out the last of the smaller mechs and put his gun back in it's holster. The raven turned towards the man in white and raised an eyebrow, "Vasha I presume. I'm in need of help against the reapers and I need a team of the best to take them down."

Garrus kept his gun in his hands just in case, "careful Shepard."

Mordin joined in behind the raven looking over at Vasha before he spoke quickly, "careful, deadly, cunning, defiantly the man we're looking for."

Shepard nodded at his team then turned to look at Vasha, "Don't worry about Cerberus, I'm just using their resources against the reapers since the Alliance isn't listening. I need your help and am willing to work with you to have you on my team." The raven looked at him. His voice was deep and commanded attention, like a good leader should sound.

Vasha chuckled, seeing the truth in Shepard's voice and the fact that joining with them could give him the jump in his search to where the Illusive Man was. But if Shepard was using the resources of Cerberus then his ship would be full of their agents, then he would just need to be careful about the things that he find through their files. He didn't want the Illusive Man knowing his plans.

"Cerberus had been on my trail ever since I escaped from one of their prized laboratories." He began and a smirk grazed the lips behind his mask. "Working with you would just bring their goal in recapturing me closer, but I see a mutually beneficial deal that we could have." He stood, walking past the trio before stopping and sheathing his sword behind him. "I want all files about Cerberus that you have. Every file about them that you have in that ship, even the smallest file. Give them to me."

Vasha tucked his hands in the sleeves of his robes before looking over his shoulder. "And I want them given to me the moment I step foot in that ship. All of those are nonnegotiable." He inclined his head and without his mask, he would have been looking the raven down his nose. "Do we have an understanding?"

Shepard folded his arms as he listened to the other man. He understood the terms, he was asking these people onto a death mission and them asking for such things wasn't a bad thing. The raven didn't like Cerberus's attitude and files on them wasn't something he was worried about. This Illusive man kept secrets from him and nearly got him killed. So far he didn't like them either but he was the only person willing to support him against the reapers and he wasn't in the right place to be picky.

"Agreed," the raven nodded his head and started back to his ship. Putting his fingers to his ear piece he clicked it on. "Joker we have Vasha and will be boarding shortly. Inform Miranda he is to have full access to Cerberus's files."

Stepping onto the ship he then looked back at Vasha, "as long as you don't kill anyone on my ship, follow orders and help me against the Reaper's we have a deal." He held his hand out to shake his.

"I won't make any promises." Vasha stated darkly, narrowing his eyes as he heard the name Miranda. If it was who he thought it was, conflict might arise and he might be forced to kill her. Well...not really.

They entered the Normandy and Vasha immediately didn't like the looks that almost every crew member gave him. Then he saw her. Miranda Lawson. One of the top informants of the Illusive Man. He balled his hands into fists, his palms itching to take hold of his sword and cut the woman in half and watch her remains fountain blood.

"I don't like you." Were his first words once they arrived in the briefing room. "You work for the Illusive Man and agree on the actions of Cerberus. Once this mission is over, I'm gonna enjoy hunting you and your family down." He smiled and no one knew the extent of cruelty that lied behind it.

"I believe that this is the perfect time to give me those files, Shepard." He stated silently, never leaving his eyes from the woman he had come to mentally call, Cerberus Cheerleader.

((we need to make sure we save a copy while they're doing their backups or what not :) ))

Miranda glared at him and crossed her arms, "so what if I do." She then grit her teeth a little at the others statement and cocky response. "Like I'll ever even let you close to them!"

Shepard didn't like the attitude he was presented with and knew this wouldn't work if they other didn't agree to at least work with him. The raven stepped between them, "that's enough!"

He looked between the two, "I will not have either of you on my ship if this continues. Either pretend to get along or none of these deals will work. Miranda stand down and don't instigate. I don't trust you and I understand why he doesn't. Vasha if you want any of those files you need to understand I'm in charge here and if you lay one hand on anyone here I will kill you myself." His voice was stern, deep and demanded respect.

Miranda stepped back a little obviously taken a backed by it, "whatever you say Commander..."

Vasha laughed, shrugging off the Commander's threat as if it was an insignificant lint on his clothes. But he knew that Shepard would deliver should he try to kill someone. It was a far occurrence though even if he despised these people, Vasha knew how to hold a deal. But after the mission, that was a different matter altogether.

"Don't worry Commander, I won't lay a single hand on your Cerberus subordinates." He crossed his arms over his chest and gave a mirthless chuckle. "I am yours to command as long as you follow through with our deal." Behind his mask, he grinned.

Shepard looked at him for a long moment then nodded his head, "Miranda give him what he asks." The raven walked over to Vasha and nodded his head. "I hope someday we can come past this and you can look to me as a friend. I don't trust them and I don't expect you too but... they rebuilt me and their looking to stop the Reapers too." His hands reached up and touched his own chest feeling his partially artificial heart beating.

Nodding to Vasha he started for the elevator, "if you need anything I'll be in my cabin going through reports. Joker take us to our next location. We need to check out that colony and talk to Liara..." After bumping into Alenko before he felt his chest hurt. That man fought beside him with defeating Saren and he wanted him there again but he didn't trust him...

Miranda stood there with arms crossed and looked back at Vasha as the doors closed, "I don't know why the Illusive Man or Shepard trust you but I don't." Reaching over to her desk she pulled out a tablet and typed in a code then handed it to him. "Leave my office now."

Vasha took the tablet, hid it in his robe's sleeves and left without a word. Now that he had the information that he needed, all he had to do was look through then and sort which was which and judging by the amount of files in the tablet, it would take some time before he would have completely eliminated everything that was unnecessary. Then probably a bit longer to locate connections towards the main headquarters of Cerberus.

"High probability that Lawson knows Cerberus HQ. Must be discreet when asking." He mumbled lightly to himself, shaking his head at the fact that he nearly sounded like a salarian. He took the elevator and headed towards the Engineering Deck, taking two flights of stairs before he reached the lower compartment of the deck. The area was dark, quiet and most of all it was a good place to defend himself should there be any problem in the ship. He sat himself on a nearby bed before he began checking through the tablet that Lawson had given him. Then the hair on the back of his neck prickled.

"Stop watching me, A.I." Vasha stated silently.

"My apologies if I disturbed you. I was just making sure that you are comfortable." The melodious voice of the ship's artificial intelligence replied.

"We are headed to Illium, yes?" He asked, using the opportunity to gather some info.

"It seems that we are."

"Kindly upload to my omni-tool the location of Doctor T'Soni. I hear she is the top information broker in Illium." Behind his mask, Vasha's lips curled upwards just as his omni-tool began downloading the data he requested. If everything turned out to be okay then he'd be able to find that one very special place.

Shepard was restless, he always seemed to be since he wasn't one for just sitting around and doing nothing. The raven had things to do and places to go. Taking a deep breath he looked over his emails wondering what became of Liara. The information from Cerberus told him she was working for the shadow broker now and that bothered him. They kind of had a thing going but then he met Alenko and that man... so nice, so honorable it just caught his eye but now after their last meeting Kaiden seemed less interested in being around him.

Frowning at his computer screen he clicked it closed and leaned back folding his arms. Now he was working with Cerberus, and no matter how much he tried to deny it he was working with them. He might be mainly just using their resources he knew it would be hard for his old team to trust him. Now he was picking up people he wasn't sure he could trust.

This new one was interesting. Possible a loose cannon but he couldn't be sure. Standing he decided to go pay him a visit a couple hours into the flight. The raven walked to the elevator and made his way down to engineering. Walking down the steps to the lower deck he spotted the other man sitting there, "I have nicer areas for you to stay."

Vasha had heard the man's footsteps long before he heard his voice. It was true that there were nicer areas in the ship for him to stay, but the lower deck of the Engineering was the most defensible position there was and he liked the silence that it provided.

"What's wrong with this place?" He asked silently. "It's dark, it's quiet and it's a defensible position should your Cerberus crew decide to have a coup." Behind his mask, he grinned. "And are you sure that having an AI in this ship is wise?" He asked, clicking a few buttons on the tablet before setting it down on his pillow. "Any specific reason why you visited me?"

Shepard folded his arms and leaned against some metal tubes going down the wall. The raven smirked and shook his head, "I'm interested in this AI, she's different from anything I've worked with before. Also I get a feeling EDI is more on my side then I think."

He pushed off the wall and stepped forward tucking his hands in his pocket, "you seem interesting to me. Out of all the people I've picked up your the most interesting." The raven looked over at him. "And why do you wear that mask?" He wanted to know what was behind it because seeing someones face meant a lot to him.

"Yeah. Why do you wear that mask, Vasha?" The voice of Joker stated through the intercom. "Your face got torn by a Krogan or something?"

Behind his mask, Vasha narrowed his eyes, clearly not impressed at the pilot's sense of deduction. The mask was something that he rarely removed, it also worked exactly like the masks the Quarians wore, making it actually a helmet and not a mask at all. Not that he was gonna tell them. He didn't want any of them to see his face and he would make absolutely sure that no one saw him when he ate.

"No longer human, Shepard. Mask the only thing keeping my pride intact." He stated silently, running his fingers against his mask. "Cerberus made me a freak of nature and I will repay them by destroying everything that Cerberus is, even if it takes me a thousand years to do so." He said seriously, biotic energy flashing around his body before disappearing as quickly as it appeared. "I will find every Cerberus member. I will obliterate them, their family and their friends." He stated quietly. Dangerously. "After I'm done, the galaxy would be a much emptier place." Vasha turned his head and gave the Commander a questioning look behind his mask. "What of your companions. The Salarian, Mordin. The Turian, Garrus. How did you come to have their loyalty?"

Shepard made a face as Joker chimed in, "not helping Joker."

The raven looked over at the masked man as he spoke. Clearly something bad had happened to him but unless he told him he couldn't help him.

"No longer human, Shepard. Mask the only thing keeping my pride intact."

"You sound like me... sometimes I wonder..." Shepard reached up touching the scars on his face. "Cerberus put me back together after most of me was burnt up from falling to a planet. Most of my insides are machine now and I don't feel entirely like myself anymore." He tucked his hands into his pockets and leaned against the wall looking over at his masked man.

"Even some of my comrades didn't return because of who I'm with now. I'm not entirely happy to be here but I am happy to be brought back to life," Shepard looked at the other man then smiled softly. "Well my companions trust me as I trust them. I will stand beside them and support them to the very end."

Vasha stood, clicking a few buttons on his omni-tool before removing the hood of his robe, revealing the helmet that hid beneath it.

"I have disabled every surveillance camera in this floor." He stated silently. "This is the only sign of cooperation that you will get from me, Commander."

He clicked a few buttons on his mask before it made a hiss and the mask came undone and the rest of the helmet retreated back inside the robe.

Golden hair fell around his face as Vasha shook his head to let the strands free. They touched his chest and the strands behind him rested just above the small of his back. His skin was not pale, but light with a bit of an ethereal sheen to it. He opened his eyes, the right shining blue and the left shining green. But they were pale, power and emotions churning just beneath their surface.

He gave Shepard a piercing look before he pressed a few buttons on his omni-tool, the helmet returning back and sucking his hair inside. He lifted his hand and clicked the mask in place, lifting the hood of his robe to finish the setup and sitting back on his bed as if nothing had just happened.

"Do not expect me to do the same courtesy to your crew." Vasha stated indifferently.

Shepard was a little stunned that this man was doing this but people from his group had surprised him with things like this before. He watched as the mask came undone and revealed the man under it. Blinking he wondered to himself where this mans face was ruined like he thought before. If anything this man was stunning and breathtaking.

His hand started to reach out but only got a couple inches before the mask closed again. The raven wanted to touch his face and really see where this man thought his flaws were, "Vasha... why hide your face? Or is it to keep people from jumping you all the time?" He smiled softly as he took a step towards him.

Vasha shrugged, crossing his legs against each other before leaning his back against the support frame of his bed. There was only one reason why he hid his face in a mask. His appearance was the only thing human in him and he wanted to protect that, and even that fact was a bit of a stretch on the truth. He didn't want anything nor anyone to soil the only human aspect that he has and that was why he had opted to wear a helmet all the time.

"So, we are headed to Illium." He stated, moving further down his bed and trying not to show how uncomfortable he was at Shepard's close proximity. "Once we are there, I would like first to speak to Doctor T'Soni before we do our business there." He closed his eyes. "I believe that she is the best Information Broker next to the Shadow Broker himself. And I have something for her that I believe she wouldn't want to miss." He finished in a slow dangerous voice.
