Asta eyes widened ever so slightly hearing the door slide open. Was it his mom? Coming to check on him, or maybe...it was just a random nurse coming to do her routine check ins...he turned only to immediately looked away the moment his eyes caught a glimpse of that beautiful white hair. That pain in his chest suddenly intensified. He hung his head, not wanting to look up anymore. The room was quiet...so quiet that Asta heard every one of Leon's footsteps as he approached him. He looked normal...beautiful....human... He moved to the foot of the bed...and even though the love of his life was right in front of him, he couldn't bare to look at him. For once in his life....he didnt want to see him! And yet...a part of him...was so relieved that Leon was here. That he didnt abandon him. Silence fell between them, but this time...the weight was soul crushing. Asta's mind was reeling. His mind and emotions at odds with each other, going to war. ( GET OUT!!! HOW DARE YOU SHOW YOUR FACE!! ) ( W-why...why are you here ?!) ( YOU LIED! YOU LIED TO ME AGAIN! T-THIS IS YOUR FAULT! ) ( I- I was so scared L-leon...w-why did this happen?! W-what are you! Tell me the truth! YOU PROMISED! YOU PROMISED ME NO MORE LIES!) ( what the hell are you!) ( Why didn't you warn me! Why didn't you protect me!!) ( I'm scared...Leon...i...I can't...My dreams are...g-gone...) ( If I'm stuck in a wheel chair for the rest of my life...would you still love me? Would you even want me?!) (IF I NEVER MET YOU! THEN---- THEN THIS NEVER WOULD OF HAPPENED) (I'm so mad at you! ) ( I'm so hapoy your here...I'm so happy you saved me...) ( If I never get to play again.........) ( I won't forgive you...) ( I want to forgive you ) ( I HATE YO----) [ “I know you’re not ready to talk to me.” ] Asta frozen...Leon's voice pulled him out of his dark thoughts...Was his voice...always this soft? Its full of....pain? He slowly lifted his head, as he heard the sound of a chair screeching on the floor, Leon had moved the chair to his bedside...but didn't sit. He stared at his hands that were gripping the back of the chair...they were white...and...human. [ “You might never be. And I wouldn’t blame you.”] (....you lied...again...) [ “I told myself I was protecting you. That keeping the truth hidden was the right call…But the truth is... I was scared......Scared you’d look at me differently if you saw what I was. What I am.”] ( This isn't about you right now! Look at me!!! ) ( I wish...you would of told me....) He briefly thought about last night... the night the two of them.... He bit his lip. ( I...i would of...u-understood...) Or would he? After finding out about Leon's job...he basically made him quit because he was jealous and insecure....and when he found out about Leon's true identity...they almost...broke up... ( n-no....I...) It made sense....why Leon didn't tell him... Leon finally sat down...but Asta had never seen Leon behave like this...he always carried himself with such grace and confidence, now he was hunched over in a chair, looking tired and drained. His voice so horse and soft...dripping with guilt and sorrow. [ “I should’ve told you everything the second I realized I loved you... You probably don’t want to hear that right now. Or ever.”] Asta flinched. Those words...' I loved you' he opened his mouth but no words came out... What was this feeling?! This new fear that ever so briefly trumped his fear of never playing basketball again...? The fear that Leon...would never say that he loved him...ever again? Was he suppose to choose? Choose between Love....and Basketball? Trust Leon...one more time...dispite the constant and continuous lies...or Trust the doctors...and face this reality that his dream...was over. ( d-dont...please....please god...don't make me choose....) [ “Camill... what she did to you...” ] That name sent chills down his spine. (D-Dont...) [ "She used you to punish me. And I don’t know how to live with that. I never wanted you to get hurt”] The silence between them was oh so very sharp. How was he suppose to respond to that? To him? To this?! “I’m not asking you to forgive me,” Tears began to fill his eyes...his vision becoming blurry... ( I can't....I won't!) ( Im sorry....I want to forgive you!) ( P-please stay...please don't go!) ( Leave me alone!) ( I...i still...love y----) [ “I just… I needed to tell you that I’m still here.”] The tears started to finally fall, running down his cheeks like a never ending stream. How did Leon know exactly what to say...how did he know that Asta needed to hear those words? [ “No matter what. I’ll be here....Even if you never want to see me again.…I’m sorry, Asta.”] ( SORRY?! SORRY ISNT ENOUGH! I CAN'T WALK! I CAN'T PLAY!) ( Sorry...I'm so sorry...) Asta gripped the bed sheets in front of him, his hands balling into tight fists as he struggled to cry in silence. Even now ...Asta wasn't looking at Leon...but he could feel his gaze... ( Don't look at me?! Not like this?! Not like this?!!) And yet...Last night....he was begging the model to only have eyes for him. To never look away... ( I'm...so scared....) Asta’s heartbeat was increasing, his breathing ragged now that he was crying. He quickly covered his face with his hands, wanting to escape Leon's gaze. The machines he was hooked up too, beeping and spiking. Part of him...wanted to hate Leon...but so much of him....still loved him. " I..I..I d-dont hic-- i d-dont know hicc--- what to do!" He cried. His voice breaking as he tried to get the words out. No words could truly describe the sheer turmoil and agony he was going through and facing. He didn't see any hope...couldn't even begin to imagine what his new life was going to look like. A life without basketball. A life where he couldn't walk... or needed a cain to get around. A life where he'd be a physical burden to the people around him... a life where he'd have to find a new dream. A new hobby. A new purpose.... -------------------------- Fang immediately opened his eyes, his body stiff as he raised his head, glaring at the door. It was a soft knock, but it had woken him up. His body on alert. Like dog guarding its owner. It was a nurse. Fang's body relaxed ever so slightly, as he slowly sat up, his eyes turning to Sora who was...awake? His eyes widened ever so slightly, he was relieved. "hey pipesqueak..." he said softly. His voice soft as the nurse approached them. Fang kept his eyes on her... as if he was monitoring her. Fang would never admit it...but he was more paranoid then ever. She said good morning, but neither of them said anything. Fangs expression didnt change, nor did he try to hide the fact that he was staring at the nurse. Clearly not trusting her... [ “You’re stable....Pain should be manageable for now. Let us know if it spikes again.”] Fang leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms, his gaze shifting over to Sora as the nurse spoke again, informing him about Asta. [ “I thought you’d want to know…Your friend. The one who was missing. He was found last night. He’s here. Recovering.”] Fang's gaze shifted to the floor seeing the visible shift in Sora's expression. His emotions clashing. A mix between relief and concern. Who would be the one to tell him...that Asta was alive...stable....but...changed forever and no doubt...a different person. [ “He’s stable. He was brought in a few hours after you. Surgery went well. He’s being monitored in another wing.”] Fang noticed how Sora was struggling to speak...and it seemed that he wasnt the only one, the nurse continued, saying that she'd inform the doctor that he was awake and that they'd bring him breakfast soon before leaving. And just like that...it was quiet again. Fang sighed under his breath and stood, turning around so he could open a window and let in some sunlight. The strong smell of disinfectant and starch giving him a headache. He hated hospitals because all the cleaning supplies and chemicals messed with his senses. Making him nauseous. It was difficult to focus on any particular scent...he was at a disadvantage in here. Once he opened the windows and let some sunlight in, he sat back down in his seat and crossed his arms, leaning back in his chair. It was hard seeing Sora like this.... " ...you ok..." he said softly, his eyes turning to Sora. The moment the nurse said Asta was here and recovered he sensed Sora's desire to go see his friend. Fang understood this desire...and he was fine with him seeing Asta...but weather the two of them could continue seeing each other...and remain friends...that was up for debate, because Fang didn't want Sora mixed up in Leon's affairs.
