Kaito had not prepared for this. Not for Asher shirtless, half-glowing in morning light. Not for the lazy stretch of muscle across his chest as if he weren’t the most distracting thing Kaito had ever seen. And definitely not for the smirk—the infuriating, self-satisfied smirk—that told Kaito he’d been caught staring. Gods. He absolutely had been staring. Kaito tried - tried - to respond like a normal functioning adult. Instead, his mouth opened… closed… then opened again in betrayal of every scrap of dignity he possessed. “I—I wasn’t hiding,” he blurted, then winced internally. Great start. “I mean—I didn’t want to interrupt you. You were… busy.” Busy. Doing one-arm push-ups like some sort of sculpted demigod carved out of heat and sweat and sinful geometry. Kaito’s ears burned. Kaito’s brain promptly decided to stop working yet again. “And I wasn’t… watching,” he added quickly. Too quickly. Then immediately realized that sounded worse. Much worse. His face went utterly, hopelessly red. “I mean— I didn’t watch on purpose.” … “Not the whole time.” Perfect. Just bury yourself alive next time. Asher’s chest shook with a quiet laugh, low and warm, and Kaito felt that sound all the way down his spine. When Asher flexed - flexed - his chest in demonstration, Kaito’s eyes snapped to it before he could stop himself. He made a strangled noise in the back of his throat and forced his gaze up, only for it to catch on Asher’s face instead. Which wasn’t better. Not even a little. “You, um,” Kaito managed weakly, waving a hand at him, “you’re… very…” Beautiful. Distracting. Unfair. “…fit,” he finished uselessly. “Very, ah… healthy.” He wanted to die. But Asher didn’t tease him for that. Not openly. Not when he shifted the conversation to food—normal, safe, not-thirst-inducing territory. Except it wasn’t safe. Not when Asher said eat together in that low, almost shy tone. Not when he offered pastries and breakfast like it meant something. Not when his eyes softened just the slightest bit, waiting for Kaito’s answer. Kaito swallowed hard. Breakfast. With Asher. In his apartment. Alone. His heart flipped in his chest. “I… yeah,” he said, voice embarrassingly soft. “I’d like that.” Then, because some reckless part of him was still buzzing from watching Asher work out, Kaito added—quiet, flustered, but undeniably bold: “And for the record… I don’t mind your scent.” Kaito’s face burned, but he didn’t look away this time. “It’s… nice,” he admitted, twisting his fingers together lightly. “Comforting. So you don’t have to, um… rush the shower on my account.” A breath, quick and warm, left him. “And Asher?” His eyes flicked briefly to the man’s still-bare chest, then back up, braver than he felt. “You didn’t have to flex to prove anything.” A small smile curved his lips. “I already noticed as is very hard to not notice a big muscular body” earth please swollow me now, he bit his lip closing his eyes for a split second in hopes that that might happen. "I'm gonna go change in normal clothes" he said smiling nervously. " And i do like sweets" he said before turning on his heals to head back in his room.
