The steam drifted out of bathroom door first. When Kaito opened the door Then Kaito came into view. Chester surged forward in his mind like a tide breaking against rock. [Mate. Right there.] >I see him< Asher replied internally, voice iron-flat, as he didn’t wanna encourage his wolf. Kaito's damp hair curling slightly at the ends. His bare feet against the floor was soft against the hardwood floor, barely noticeable. The shirt he'd given Kaito —his shirt—swallowing his body, and in a strange way hit somewhere deep and dangerous in Asher’s stomach. The fabric hung off one shoulder just slightly, collarbone exposed, skin still warm-flushed from the shower. The scent of Kaito’s intoxicating smell mixed with his shampoo, was enough to send his pulse raising sky high. Chester inhaled deeply. [He smells clean. And nervous. And—] >Enough.< Asher tried to shut him up early on, inside his head. Outwardly, Asher didn’t seemed moved. But inside, every cell in his body was pacing around. When Kaito looked up - Their eyes met. And for a split second, everything in Asher went quiet. The bond thrummed low in his chest. A flicker of heat sparked low in his abdomen at the way Kaito’s eyes traced and then snapped away like he’d been caught staring. The faint flush climbing his neck didn’t go unnoticed either. Chester made a satisfied sound. [He likes what he sees.] Asher suppressed the urge to smirk. When Kaito made the comment about temperature, Asher seemed to remember the open window. He stood up in a hurry and closed it. More for Kaito sake that his owns - as Asher could barely feel the breez. “I didn't mean to freeze you out....I'd just thought I would air the room out a little. Then I forgot about it.” He explained as he locked the window shut. Asher turned back and saw that faint smile Kaito tried to hide. Watched him crossed the room to the bed. Trying not to show just how nervous he felt. He was good at concealing his expressions but Asher could still smell it like driffrent kinds of hormones in the air.. right now Asher could smell, anxiety, Trying very hard. Asher admired that. Chester prowled beneath his ribs. [He’s aware of us. Of the space on the bed.] >I’m aware too,< Asher replied internally. The mattress dipped as Asher sat down again. Asher kept his posture relaxed—one hand braced lightly against the mattress. The snoring comment earned the smallest lift of his brow. “I don’t snore,” he replied, calm but faintly amused. “But if I did, I doubt you’d manage to push me out of bed.” A subtle challenge. He watched Kaito slide under the covers, watched the way he arranged himself like someone pretending at ease. The arm behind his head. Before he stared up at the ceiling. Chester’s voice lowered. [He’s a really bad acted. But it cute] >I know.< Kaito’s softer comment [We’re adults]— still hung in the air "Yeah.. of course" Asher shifted a bit, finally lying back as well. Not crowding. Not closing the gap. He left space between them on purpose. He stared at the ceiling for a moment before speaking. “You can relax,” he said quietly in assurance. “I’m not going to do anything. Just feeling you here is enough, for now.” The words were simple. But they cost something. Chester hated him immediately. [He’s our mate. We don’t need permission—!] >We do!< Asher cut in firmly. >He hasn’t shifted. He hasn’t met his wolf. He hasn’t had time to ajust.< A pause. Then, softer in his own mind: >And I want him to choose us.< Silence settled between them. Asher turned his head slightly, looking at Kaito instead of the ceiling. Lamplight caught in damp strands of dark hair. The oversized sleeve nearly swallowed his hand. His pulse fluttered visibly at his throat. “You did well today,” Asher said after a moment, voice low. “At dinner. I know it might have felt awkward” He didn’t elaborate, he simple acknowledged it. [He’s not pulling away.] Asher exhaled slowly. >No,< he agreed. He shifted one arm behind his head, mirroring Kaito unconsciously now, gaze returning to the ceiling. He could feel the proximity like static against his skin. He would not reach, would not crowd. Would not let instinct overcome him. Even if every part of him wanted to close the distance and feel the warmth of Kaito tucked against his side. “Get some sleep,” Asher murmured finally. “Tomorrow will properly be even more exausting for you.” Asher warned gently, before he closed his eyes—not expecting to fall asleep, but still tried.
