["What"] The way Kaito froze at his compliment made Asher stop what he was doing for a second too as he mentally hid himself. Yeah, he figured it was properly cringe to say that. Just then Kaito seemed to have conected to his brain, causing he suddenly begin to stammer shyly. And with that Asher seemed to have forgotten he was just now beating himself up over acting weird. ["And... you clean up well, too.. (...) The shirt suits you.”] A playful smile played on his lips. He couldn’t help it. Kaito was just so easy to tease and the way he blushed was adorable. "Oh so it not that bad? my 50 shades of gray wardrobe.. I know you said you didn't mind me being shirtless, but... I like being just a little civil" The doorbell rang with the timing just right. Interrupting the emotional tension in the room. Asher didn’t flinch. Well—maybe a fraction. But only on the inside, when the sudden snap of sound cut through the warm, charged tension between him and Kaito like a wire pulled taut. Outside, he stayed composed, expression smooth and controlled despite the jolt in his pulse. “That’ll be breakfast,” he said, voice steady. He gave Kaito a small, confident smile—just enough curve to look intentional, not enough to show how warm Kaito’s gaze still felt on his skin. Then he cleared his throat, casual as ever. “I’ll grab it.” He walked toward the door with the deceptive casualness of a man who very much needed the fifteen-second break to reassemble his internal organs. The elevator ride down felt like the universe’s idea of a cooldown lap after sprinting through attraction-induced chaos. By the time he reached the lobby, Asher had just barely regained enough composure to look like a normal, fully-functioning adult. Which was exactly when the delivery man saw him, blinked, and did a double take so comically dramatic Asher almost turned around to see if someone hotter was behind him. “Uh,” the courier said, holding out two big paper bags and one tiny, absurdly elegant box. “Order for… Asher? Dude. You look like you just walked off a fitness magazine cover.” Asher stared. Then blinked. Then made the fatal mistake of trying to smile. It came out… toothy. “Oh. Uh. Thanks.” “Right. Yep. Totally normal reaction,” the courier muttered, handing everything over extremely carefully, as though Asher might accidentally crush the pastries with his biceps if too excited. Asher signed, tipped far too much (mostly out of embarrassment), and hurried back upstairs. By some miracle, he kept everything upright. When he re-entered the apartment, Asher’s chest warmed. He didn’t know how someone's presence could do that. How one person could make a whole room feel just driffrent. “Breakfast delivered successfully ,” Asher joked as he carried the bags over. “Only mildly terrified the courier.” They sat down together at the table, the space between them barely there. Asher handed Kaito one of the berry pastries, and watched his reaction to the pastriy. It was as big as one hand. They ate for a while in comfortable quiet. The kind of quiet that felt like warm blankets instead of awkward gaps. At some point Kaito’s shoulders slowly loosened; his hands stopped fidgeting quite so much. His eyes kept drifting enough to be obvious, but long enough for Asher to feel each pass like a warm pulse along his skin. Then, because Asher couldn’t sit with his own curiosity for another minute, he cleared his throat softly. “So…” he began, trying for casual conversation. “If you weren’t, stuck in here with me all day—” He winced. “That sounded less creepy in my head. Let’s pretend I phrased it better.” Asher pushed on. “What I mean is… what would you normally be doing?” He nodded toward Kaito with the gentlest encouragement he could manage. “What do you like? Hobbies, interests. Anything. I just—” He shrugged, feeling suddenly, stupidly young. “I want to know more about you.” But judging by the warmth rising in his own cheeks, it might’ve been obvious anyway. Asher took a sip of his tea, mostly so he had something to hold on to while waiting for Kaito’s answer. His heart doing that embarrassing hopeful thump-thump against his ribs. He wanted to know everything he could about the other. Only this time it wasn’t to interrogate him. It was because Asher was genuine interested in Kaito as a person.
