The brunette was instantly on his way to the drawing room. Seriously, he never followed a routine, it just wasn't his thing. Already back in school it had been a pain. He would never do as he was told, avoid team projects and use all his free time for things he considered important. That was why his time management was so unbalanced at times, and another reason why he needed Kagami in his life.

Without coffee or any breakfast whatsoever, the young mangaka excitedly took the papers from his fax machine and scanned the red parts on the papers. Alright, alright, alright, that seemed legit. Ah, a mangaka was nothing without his editor, right? Aside from a victim of every printer company!

Sitting down at his desk, Seto grabbed his phone and sent a text back at his ebony-haired friend.

Got them! Will be waiting for your call!

Kagami was walking through the front doors of his office building when his phone chimed from a message. He took no time in balancing his briefcase under his arm, reached down into his pocket for his phone and pressed the elevator button with his free hand....well, it wasn't exactly free, for it did hold a coffee which Kagami managed not to drop. As he waited for the doors to open he read the message on his phone. A small smile crossed his lips as he read the name on the screen. When he unlocked his phone to read the message his smile grew just a bit. To someone like Seto who knew Kagami, they would be able to tell he was smiling. However to those who didn't....he just looked like a creep. Luckily he was the only one on the elevator. Just as soon as he read the message, he was answering with his own.

'You've worked hard. I'll treat you to something really nice.'

Kagami held his phone close to his chest. Just a simple text message had the poor man's heart threatening to escape. How much longer was he really going to be able to hide his feelings for the other? He wasn't even sure he was prepared for the rejection when he did. Kagami let a sigh out before the doors opened to his floor and he stepped out.

  • 1 month later...

His heart started pounding, almost brutally slamming against his chest with happiness. The brunette smiled all over his face, glad that Kagami approved and praised him. He would die for praises from his editor, really. He always sounded so soft when he spoke words of praise, too!

Seto grinned a little creepily, chuckling to himself at the imaginary scene of Kagami patting his head in the move of a praise.

'When exactly would you like to leave? ^_^'

He asked per text message afterwards, not sure if he should go and take a shower soon or not. He of course wanted to look and smell nice when Kagami would go to have Dinner with him. Also, should he wear something fancy? He actually disliked it very much... but his editor probably wouldn't want to be seen with some kid that looked like an mixture of Emo and Hipster.

Kagami stopped at his desk as another message chimed on his phone. He opened it to reveal the question Seto was asking him.

'I'll be here for a few hours. But I'll make sure I'm out by 5. That should be plenty of times to get me back home to change and then go pick you up.'

He sent the message a little too eagerly. He hated fancy restaurants, seeing how he was in a suit almost everyday, he enjoyed free time not wearing one. He didn't want to go to a random family restaurant, so he decided one in the middle would be best. He hoped Seto wouldn't think of him as overbearing when he mentioned picking the other up. He just figured the sooner he got to see him the better his day would be. He sighed to himself and sat his coffee then his briefcase on his desk. He wanted to see Seto now, it was nearly killing him to be this far apart. But he'd have to remain strong, he couldn't let the other see his struggles to stay sane. He would have to endure a little while longer.

  • 4 weeks later...

A smile spread on the mangaka's lips as he read the text on his phone's display. It always made his heart beat a little faster when Kagami answered his messages this fast, or even sent him a text. Phone calls would almost kill him at some point, though in a positive way.

Yeah, when he thought about it, it wouldn't be bad to die because of his editor.

Wait, what was he even thinking?

Seto shook his head and cleaned his throat, even if nobody was there who could have seen him stare and grin at the text message like an idiot.

Oh, Kagami was going to pick Seto up? The brunette's legs fidgeted lightly, before he closed his eyes and took a deep breath to calm his nerves. He typed up at least five different answers, before deleting each, not knowing how exactly to respond now. Did he seem too eager? Did it look like he wanted to have a meal with his editor too bad? That sounded so wrong, actually, or was it just in his head?

Sigh. Seto returned to his drawing room and sat down at his table, putting the edited pages on the tabletop next to his pens. Okay. Okay. Okay! Answer, just, correctly, nicely, not too idiotically.

' So nice of you! I will be waiting! '

And send.

He was an idiot.

Kagami's phone chimed again as he turned on his computer. He had thought Seto would respond right away, but after five minutes of sitting at his desk starting at his phone he figured maybe the other got stuck doing something. Until he replied back with a massage only Seto could respond with. Kagami smiled at his phone and quickly cleared his throat and looked around, he'd die if co workers saw him smiling like an idiot.

'Business casual dress. Not fancy. See you tonight.'

Send.

It bothered Kagami that he was giddy just texting the other. But he was glad they were on such good terms in the first place. He put his phone away and readied himself for the days worth of work

Seto had in fact just locked his phone again when it vibrated briefly, signalling a notification. The brunette took new papers while unlocking the device and then looked over the edited parts. It would be easy to correct those, he was sure.

Upon reading Kagami's reply, the young mangaka sulked and dropped his head on his arm on the desk. His editor didn't seem as excited. He was so lost, wasn't he? Why couldn't he just be as cool as Kagami? It was like a curse. Just what was wrong with him?

Nothing fancy. Okay. Good thing Seto couldn't do fancy anyway. He actually couldn't even do business style, though he would try.

The next three hours, the brunette spent on correcting his pages, following Kagami's edits, until the alarm on his phone went off and told him to go take a shower. Kagami only worked for some hours and would soon pick him up, so it was better to be done too early than too late.

Not that his editor didn't know of his clumsiness and non-existing time management..

Seto shook his head and simply dragged himself into the bathroom. There he took a quick shower, washed his hair and took care of his skin. When he came out of the shower, he dried and combed his hair, brushed his teeth once more and then went to his bedroom to choose an outfit. That didn't go really well. By the end of half an hour, he had clothes piled up on the edge of his bed, and still looked into the mirror with endless horror on his face. Why wasn't he capable of looking good?

Eventually, he got his phone and googled outfits, ending up copying one of them. Finally, Seto stepped in front of the mirror in faint dark grey jeans, a white top and a black cardigan.

Hopefully Kagami would find this alright..

He bit his lip, then sighed. Why was he so worried? This was only a business meal, right?! W-well, or something friends would do.

Friends.

A goose flesh racked his spine.

...

HE WAS FRIENDS WITH KAGAMI--

Kagami had finally finished that last of his work. He had skipped lunch in hopes to get out on time and not have to work overtime. He had freaked out a moment when some of his coworkers had asked him to take care of a few things. But he finished them in a good amount of time and made it back to his own work fluently.

By the time he finished work it was actually 4:50. He had ten minutes to spare. Good. He took the train to his home station and walked the rest of the way. He still hated walking in the cold. When he made it to his apartment, he left his briefcase on the kitchen table and went to shower. He was out in moments with only a towel wrapped around his waist. He went to the bedroom and opened his closest and dresser. He pulled out a pair of black jeans and a light grey dress shirt with black vest.

He laid them in his bed before going back to the bathroom and dried his hair. Then he slicked it back and slightly to the side. It was certainly an unusual style from his usual messy style Seto was familiar with on his off days.

He brushed his teeth and stared off into the mirror. He was originally taking Seto out as a congratulatory dinner. But deep inside he wanted to show him off. They were only friends, a fate Kagami was sure he'd remain for the rest of time. But he couldn't help but showing the world how special Seto was to him. Despite not actually announcing it. He went to the bedroom and dressed into his clothes. He grabbed his winter coat from the front entry way, slipped on his shoes and texted Seto before heading out the door.

'Heading out now. Be there in thirty minutes.'

Including traffic he'd take a little longer to get to Seto then he normally would. He couldn't help but shake the giddiness he was feeling as he hopped into his car and turned it on. His palms were already starting to sweat.

Seto jumped as his phone vibrated. He hurried over to his bed and picked it up, reading the message with a blink of his eyes. Oh. Thirty minutes. Okay, he got that!

"Ah, I shouldn't text him back now, though, " Seto mumbled to himself as he had already typed up a word. "He is probably already in his car." Now he felt guilty for letting Kagami drive all the way here. He could have taken the train to any station or so, too, and they could have met so his editor wouldn't have to come here to. Thirty minutes were surely not a short period of time!

Seto sighed to himself. He closed his eyes and a picture of Kagami appeared in front of his mind's eye. He smiled and giggled a little.

Yes, he surely looked like an idiot.

Quickly, the brunette left his bedroom and looked around, collecting his wallet and keys, setting the items on the table in the living room. Then he tidied the kitchen a little and vanished into his bathroom, spraying his favourite perfume he had on his wrists and in his hair. He hoped for his editor to like the scent, otherwise it would be really uncomfortable after a while..

Why was he such a mess?

Like he thought, traffic was pretty bad at this time. But he was glad to be able to settle his nerves a by during the drive. By the time he had reached Seto's place he was a lot more calmer. He found a visitor parking space and turned off the car. Then he headed up the small amount of stairs until he reached Seto's apartment. He knocked on the door and cleared his threat before the other could open it.

He'd never felt like this before. He'd been on a few dates before and never felt this nervous. He knew this wasn't an actual date. But it certainly seemed like it was. Perhaps it was the way he prepped himself all for tonight's dinner. A dinner that might last only an hour and then they would both go their separate ways for the night.

He shook his head. No, no, don't think like that. He thought to himself. This is supposed to be a night for Seto. Which was why he had stopped at a flower shop on the way here and bought a small arrangement of flowers. With a small greeting card that said 'CONGRATULATIONS!' in it.

Bam. Seto had tried to catch the book, though in the same moment, he had lost balance and dropped all the others too, as the knock on his door had resounded through the small corridor. "Coming!" he called, leaning down to pick up the books and setting them onto the coffee table in the living room. He rushed to a mirror and fixed his hair a bit, then hurried to the door to open it with a big smile. "Kagami-san! I-it's nice to finally see you!"

Well.. that sounded stupid.

"I-I mean, you are free to enter for a moment, too, if you are cold... " Hazel eyes moved from the other man's face down to the flowers. Seto blinked, his head tilted a little. Why would Kagami bring flowers? Had something happened on the way? Afterwards he spotted the Congratulation's sign and his heart pounded once more, if that was even possible. A little harder and it would break his ribs. Were those for him? Should he hope they were? Was it stupid to do so?---

Kagami heard the number of thuds on the other side of the door. Worried he wanted to call out to Seto and make sure the other was okay. But it wasn't long before he heard the cry and the door opened up in front of him.

The smile that shot out as soon as the door opened left him in a state of bliss. Really, he'd just seen the guy a few days ago, but every time he saw Seto his heart skipped a beat. He cracked his own smile when Seto called out his name.

It was bad, but he'd fantasized those lips calling out his name in a more seductive way. He'd had to stop himself from thinking like that on multiple occasions. Even now, he had to fight the urge.

"Thanks" was all he said when Seto let him step inside for a moment. He had set the flowers down on the nearest table when they caught Seto's eyes. Kagami looked back between the flowers and him and was nervous to think of what Seto might think of them. Was it too stupid for him to have done so? Did Seto even like flowers. He stumbled or his words, "A small som- it's uh, a gift for...a gift for finishing your last project." God could he be anymore out of place here?

So the flowers were really for him! Seto clapped his hands together, smiling gratefully. "Thank you so much!" It didn't seem this important to the young mangaka to finish a project, as he had done it almost every year, though knowing Kagami found it significant, made him even more happy. "I'll quickly put them in a vase with water," he told his editor, took the flowers carefully and vanished into the sitting room. There he took a random vase with half-dead flowers (because he often forgot to treat especially living things), exchanged the old ones with the ones from Kagami and also gave them new water. Afterwards he returned to the entrance and put on his shoes, grabbing his coat. He slipped into it, took his wallet and keys and grinned up towards the taller man. "I am ready!"

Kagami hadn't noticed it before when he stepped into the room. But when Seto stepped next to him to reach for the flowers and then vanished, Kagami caught the scent of his perfume. It was a delicious smell that made Kagami blush. He was glad Seto hadn't seen it as he left to the sitting area. He had just managed to cool himself down when Seto came back into the room.

He stepped into the entryway as he waited for Seto to grab his things. With another bright smile he announced he was ready. Kagami smiled and nodded opening the door for him to step outside. Of course Seto would have to lock his own door, but Kagami could at least open it for him. "Then let's go. I made reservations already."

Reservations? "Okay! That's really nice of you, Kagami-san!" Seto beamed, a little blush lying on his cheeks as the door was held open for him. He gulped, trying to hide his embarrassment, and stepped out of the apartment. "Thank you." As soon as his editor had as well entered the corridor, the brunette closed the door and locked it with his keys. Subsequently, he slid both hands into the pockets of his coat and smiled up dearly towards the taller man. This day had been quiet exhausting and not really something special, but right now he felt special, and the atmosphere was warm and kind. He loved situations like these, even though he was still unsure regarding his feelings towards his editor.

Kagami waited for Seto to lock his door. When he did he began stepping down the hallway back towards the front entranceway where they would head towards Kagami's car in the parking lot. Kagami had to fight the urge to wrap his arm around Seto's shoulders and hold him close. He knew he would over step his boundaries had he actually done that.

When they reached the car he used his automatic car lock and unlocked the car in time to open the door on Seto's side of the car. He smiled to the other as he welcomed him in. "Your ride awaits, sir."

Kagami always made jokes, and most of the time it was to offset how embarrassed he felt being around Seto.

  • 3 weeks later...

Seto followed his editor with a smile, hiding his hands in his coat's pockets. The urge to fondle with his hands or the tip of his clothes overcame him and he tried his best to resist. He would only end up looking stupid, embarrassing himself in front of a handsome, elegant gentleman such as Kagami.

Cough. Handsome...

A slight pink shimmer appeared on his cheeks as he watched how the taller man opened the door for him. What a nice gesture! "Thank you so much, Kagami-san," the brunette smiled, climbing into the car. Kagami's scent instantly reached his nose and his vision went black for a moment, his mind drowning in bliss. Everything here smelled like the other, had once been touched by the other, belonged to the other...

Tension made his body cringe and he shook his head lightly to push himself back into reality. It felt like weight lay on his chest, making it harder to breathe evenly, while his heart pounded. Don't make a fool out of yourself!, Seto scolded himself silently, exhaling through his nose in the hope to be able to calm his nerves.

However, he ended up softly drumming his fingers on the surface of his coat in his lap.

Kagami smiled wide at the other as he appreciated his small gesture and sat on the car. He closed the door gently as he settled in and took a step to hide himself from Seto. Then he took in a deep breath and let it out slowly. "Your going to be okay, man. You've got this."

He'd already held his feelings on for so long already, it was easy to just continue this way. But somehow he felt they were slowly growing closer. Exceptionally closer. Not that he had anything to complain about. But he was starting to worry more then he should.

Kagami walked around the car and sat down in the driver seat. He put the key on the ignition, started up the car, and backed out of his parking space to head for the road. "You'll like this place. It's nice, but really family oriented. I've been there once or twice and the food is really good."

He needed to find himself in conversation, anything that didn't remind him of his feelings for the other. Of course, just breathing the same air as Seto was was enough to get him thinking about it.

Seto almost jumped when the driver's door opened. He watched Kagami climb in from the corner of his eyes, finding himself unable to look away as he watched every single movement of his editor. Only when it came to his mind that he might come off as creepy, the mangaka quickly averted his glimpse. He searched for something to look at, until he just turned his head to the window. His heartbeat was still uncontrollably strong, making him worried Kagami might hear it..

Whether he was easy to psych? Would his editor notice it sooner or later? Had he already?

The thought made his cheeks go all red.

Kagami's voice made him flinch. It pulled him back into reality and Seto was sure, he was looking like an idiot right now. "Sounds cu--! .. I-I mean, wonderful!" Oh wow. Fucked up. Quick, say something else! "So, uh, family orientated, you say? Have you eaten there with your family as well?"

The restaurant wasn't that far from Seto's place, but it was still enough for Kagami to delve into conversation and help his mind calm down. Although, no matter how much he tried he couldn't stop noticing that Seto was staring at him from the corner of his eye. An awkward interaction between the two that almost ignited a strong feeling in Kagami then. He looked in his rear view mirror in hopes to distract himself from the exchange.

When Seto made a comment on the restaurant he couldn't help but smile a bit. His stammers were actually rather cute to Kagami. He chuckled to himself and nodded. "I hope you like it. I really do." Seto's other comment there Kagami off guard.

"Oh uh, yeah. I uh..." he needed to say something else so he didn't discourage the conversation. "I used to go there with my grandpa when I was a kid. In fact he took me a few times when I was in high school too. And when I occasionally came home, when he was still around, we would try to meet up." Kagami took a glance at Seto as they sat at a red light. "He passed away about a year ago." He held a smile on his lips as if to tell Seto not feel bad about the topic.

Seto instantly looked back towards Kagami as the other mentioned his deceased grandfather. A worried expression spread on his face and even if his editor smiled, he felt the urge to show his sympathy. "I am sure he was a great man," he eventually said, returning a warm smile.

The mangaka leaned back in the car seat. His eyes moved back to the window; he watched the world rushing by, vanishing into a blur. His heartbeat had calmed down a little now due to the prior topic, and his chest actually filled with a comfortable warmth. Without noticing, he gripped the ends of his jacket, a silly smile on his lips. He was happy to be here, with Kagami, sharing their spare time without talking about work. He thought it might do Kagami good, as well.

Kagami nodded and looked back to the front as the light turn green. "He was a great man. Old fashioned to his core. He loved my grandmother more then anything in this world. And when my dad and his siblings were born, the man was ecstatic. When I came into the picture, first before my sister, he taught me all sorts of things." Kagami let out a small laugh. "I remember this one time I got into a fight with a bunch of boys from school. He grabbed my shoulder and told me: 'my boy, a man stands up for his family. He doesn't back down until they're safe.' He gave me all sorts of advice." Kagami smiled as he turned down the street to the restaurant, stopping to let people cross the road. "If it weren't for him I would have become a pushover. To be honest...."

he parked the car and turned it off before looking over at Seto. "It was thanks to him I became friends with you. And I'll never forget his advice or that very day." His smile could put do the Holy Spirit himself. It was more brilliant then the starry sky itself, more warmth then the sun, and the toothy whites that showed through his lips could kill a celebrity out of jealousy.

Seto watched his editor fascinated as he talked. He had never experienced Kagami telling a story like this, let alone talk to him with such a warm voice, an undertone of purity and a smile of beauty. Even when the taller male had stopped talking, the mangaka still stared at his face, into his eyes, out of pure surprise. It was a nice change hearing Kagami talk like this. Talk about a person who had meant so much to him.

By the way, they were friends?

His cheeks reddened.

"That sounds... that sounds so beautiful," Seto said in an admiring manner. "I wish I had had someone like that in my life. You were so lucky, Kagami-san! A-also, you have a sister? I didn't know!" He knew so less of Kagami and he disliked it very much. Though, he couldn't just bug into the other's life, right? My... Kagami's sisters was so lucky... being related to him and all... She must look as good as he did!

Uhm..

Seto shook his head, the red on his face intensifying. Oh my, what was he just thinking.. "Uh, I-I mean... I don't want to bother you with q-questions or the like or anything... ahah.. " He was so bad at this.

Kagami got out of the car and strode over to the other side of the car to open the door for Seto. He chuckled at Seto's expression, mesmerized, adorable. Kagami wanted to pull him close and kiss him. Kagami mentally slapped himself. He nodded at Seto's question. "I have a sister. She's younger then by three years."

When Seto stepped out of the car, Kagami closed the car door behind him. His smile still held highly on his face. "You know, I don't mind you asking me questions. I mean, I probably no more about you then you think I do. It won't bother me if you want to know about me too." He fell quiet for a moment as he walked to the building. "Be-before editor and mangaka...I....I am your friend." He opened the door to the restaurant and let Seto in first.

"That's so sweet!" Not only the fact that Kagami opened the door for him, but that he had a younger sister. Seto couldn't even picture what she might look like. Kagami was so handsome already. But he was sure, his sister wasn't more attractive. After all, nobody could beat Kagami's appearance.

"Thank you very much," the young mangaka said, climbing out of the car. "Oh really? You are right, I didn't know that." It wasn't embarrassing, though, that Kagami knew more about him than he might think. It was probably an editor-thing. Those people knew everything. "A-ah, it's alright, really. I was just being nosy!"

He followed his editor to the building and thanked him once more for holding the door open. As he said they were friends before anything, Seto felt his heart jumping in happiness. He had always though Kagami saw their relationship as business material. However, he sounded like he doubted it a little, so Seto instantly felt the need to confirm it. "Yes! We are best friends!" he replied.
