Why do you like Yaoi?

So for work I sometimes study Yaoi manga and one question I often have is why do people like these manga, especially when it comes to female readers? I personally started to read Yaoi because growing up in rural America I lacked any real outlet for my romantic desires; however, I have since found that a lot of self identified heterosexual women also enjoy reading Yaoi as well. Therefore, I am rather curious as to why do you like reading these comics? What is it about Yaoi that makes it more enjoyable to read than other romantic genre of manga?

Well, I hate Yaoi at first. I thought it was really disgusting, but more to my surprise, my heart goes "doki-doki". If you say why I love it, it's because of the bishies and the story so far. I think it's more fun to have twists!

For me, I think it's the expressions on the guys' face in yaoi. You usually never see that kind of expression and hotness in normal hentai since its always focused on the female characters and are usually made for guys. I find ukes absolutely adorable and semes to be super hot. Yaoi is sex with double the amount of hot guys. What is there not to love?

It felt really weird at first. I didn't know how felt about yaoi, but as I read the manga, my heart was jumping up and down for no reason. Also, the art style of Viewfinder attracted me into yaoi, it's very beautiful. Q.Q

I'm asexual, so I actually like yaoi because it's so divorced from my reality. Also female characters in straight series tend to be annoying to me and I can't relate to them. I'm a seme trapped in a girly body!

Personally, I think that yaoi for me was an escape from reality. In most of the worlds where the yaoi characters interact it tends to be more simple. They do not have to worry about prejudices, political, or just the boring real life stuff. It allows you to truly be able to just appreciate the storyline. I mean both of the characters are able to work it out. There is not really a "complicated" relationship in some of the manga / anime I have witnessed. Some break up but they get together but they know that they love each other that much that it would hurt.

 

To sum it up, it allows you to truly escape.

Why I like yaoi that a difficult question to answer for me cause there's many reasons why yaoi appeals for me. I think Its more interesting than heterosexual romance I just feel more connected with the story line when there is two guys in love with each other. :_red_fox 15

I don't like to watch tits or anything girly when i read pervy or smut manga. I only like boys so i get irritiated when i read shoujo-smut, because mostly there 're naive and stupid girls... And when thing get all hot i get so jealous... So i read yaoi, simply as that ^^ Yaoi is cute, when you reating it you get nice feeling.

And I like to escape from reality sometimes

The storylines are fascinating... theres a lack of inhibition in BL, and the plot gets crazier and crazier. And on the other hand, theres some sweet fluff ones that just warm up your heart.

I personally like BL for the storylines. And well, the sex isn't bad either

Because it's more hardcore than the mellow shoujo. I'm also kind of tired reading hetero love (e.g childhood bestriend fall in love, jock and the nerd). Though I like to read these stories in YAOI.

To begin with I believe humans are bisexual by nature but the society make them think otherwise and it is nice to see this world view reflected in some of the Yaoi mangas or BL novels. I also have read my fair share of hetero-romance before getting fed up with it so Yaoi allowed me to start enjoying romance again.And Finally I think it is a female thing, to enjoy all the good looking guys, and manga guys look so much better than real life ones, without any annoying female to spoil it.That said , I also like Yuri, but for the mentioned reason I am rather picky about the plot and at the end it doesn't give the same satisfaction Yaoi .

Well Im bisexual and I wanted to something else. I like yaoi cuz its just like any other love and it should be more ok. I like the plots (some are good some are bad) i like the heat in the scens and the emotions. Plus I dont mide cute/ good looking guys making out.

I guess it was because I felt it was a change from the average shoujo. I've always been like that. When I get bored, I start looking for something else to spend my time on.

 

It's weird, but sometimes I feel like reading yaoi is a win against homophobes.

 

But I really don't have much of a reason. If I like the story and art, I'll read it. Gender is mostly irrelevant. But guy on guy is too cute XD.

At first I stayed away from anything yaoi, but then I stumbled upon this Light Novel titled "Maru MA" and thought "his feeling for this henachoko MaOu is so pure" and "heck I need to search more". Boys feeling and falling for each other taste metaphorically so sweet that I want to get more.

Why do I like yaoi? I really appreciate BL because it has a radical element to it that mostly helped me to affirm and celebrate same gender attraction. It's always made with so much passion, if not mastery, too. BL is inspiring, not that it's not without its problems (so many questionable trends...). And it inspires passion. As a very straight girl I'd say I really like caring but kind of brooding semes. I don't know. I guess I agree with what another user said, that yaoi is more focused on the guy than any other genre, so me being interested in these guys.. it makes some sense.

What i like about Yaoi is i could relate myself to the characters somehow.. and the plot and a bit lesson actually what really matters to me at all. But I'm not a fan of Hard Yaoi .. xD but sometimes i watch ♥.♥
