Recommendations to a novice.

As I've mentioned on my introduction thread, I am barely "getting started" on what it is to read Yaoi. But I was foolish enough to not take my co-worker's advice seriously as he instructed me to precisely avoid namely titles that he criticized as works not worthy of my time. I got into reading them anyways. Oh how much I regret my decision and my naivety.

 

So, instead to trying to search through "bad" titles, I will simply open this thread to let the genre connoiseurs share with me some good titles.

Also, I beg you to take into consideration that I am looking for quality, so I shall extend a list of certain requisites I'm looking for inside your recommendations, if so you have.

 

These are the things I'm not willing to accept:

- Romanticized abuse.

- Stockholm syndrome.

- Non-con or Dub-con.

- One sided characters.

- Strange anatomy.

- Restrictive roles.

- Fetishized homophobia.

- Tasteless rape jokes.

- Justified Sexism.

- Heterosexism

 

In case the story should have Rape and Abuse inside its content, it should be as the following:

- Rape should be seen as the terrible thing it is, not a fetish.

- Emotional abuse exists and it should be noted that it's not okay that it happens.

- The victim should at least be able to escape from it.

- Rape should not be sexy.

 

 

 

I hope that I'm not asking too much. In advance, thanks a lot for the recommendations.

Fuyu no Semi - although I've seen this one as an anime..I don't know if its in manga as well..

Chara Cafe Relish is a pretty good one, as is the story Junjou Egoist. I will warn you though, a lot of yaoi has rape in it. If you want to stay away from rape being shown as a fetish, I would stick more so to Shonen-ai like No.6 and Gravitation (rape is in this story, but it's actually shown as a bad thing). I don't get turned on by rape either, but I'm having trouble thinking of other yaoi stories that don't show it in a good light. :cuteonion24:

I would suggest From Eroica with Love (very high quality manga that doesn't focus on romance. It is more comedy and intellectual), Yami no Matsuei, and Kaze to ki no uta.

1. Gravitation anime

2. Junjou Romantica

 

Basically you should aim for shonen ai ( which are soft )
