Biography:

Theodore was born as the third child of Lord and Lady Watson. From the begin on he had a natural curiosity and a sense for adventure and exploring new things and the world but due to his bad health his mother had been over protective about him and had rarely even let him go outside as a young boy, especially after the doctors had told her that he was predestined to die early and not grow old.

Basically locked up in their mansion he spend his time learning and exploring from books and while his siblings played outside and were having fun all Theodore did was learning and experimenting in his room when he didn’t have to do what was on his mother’s or his private teacher’s schedule for him that was.

The man turned out to be rather clever and when he got older, older than the doctors had originally said that he would ever get, he managed to become a biologist and his books and theories were highly praised by some scientists but seen as controversial or even blasphemous by the church and the general population.

Spending his life mostly on his desk and in universities a stranger who didn’t look as if he belonged into the scientific world visited him one day and Theodore got the chance of his lifetime to get out and see the world and discover and explore new things and lands. Excited and enthusiastic about the expedition he said yes right away but when his mother found out that her now adult but still physically sick son was about to risk his fragile life for something like that she attempted to stop him and Theodore went onto the ship of the expedition in secret with the help of his friend without his mother knowing that he would still go and that she hadn’t actually changed his mind.

He could hear the birds chirping outside of the provisional house they had built outside of the village of the native people of the little island that their crew had basically discovered by accident. Theodore was incredibly excited while he was searching for his notebook somewhere on the mess that was his overloaded desk. His hands with the long fingers searched in between books, a lot of paperwork, notes, sketches of animals, plants and the native people he had drawn as well letters until he felt the brown leather of the small thick notebook that he always took everywhere on his skin.

This was a special day for Theodore and for the crew as he had finally been invited to the headman of the tribe in the little village. Up until now none of them had been invited into the indigenous people’s houses and it had been all too clear that they mistrusted them. The brunette biologist however had not let himself be undeterred by this though and he had tried to learn as much as possible and had tried to bring the people to open up to him and finally he got rewarded for this.

The Captain of their ship wasn’t pleased about the fact that the headman didn’t want to let him accompany Theodore and that he had to stay in the background. The Captain was an ambitious man and since the crown had ordered them to figure out the islanders secret at all cost and bring it back home the man had become much more eager to find out what it was.

That small island that they had never heard of before they had landed there, as well as its people were not only different from them, people different from them had already been discovered at different places, they also differed from all the other kind of people known to them. Not only in looks though, they seemed to be incredibly vital, Theodore had seen no diseases, disorders or illnesses amongst any of them, not even the flue what was extraordinary especially if one took into account that their whole way of life and standard seemed to be rather primitive and looked a lot lower than their own. The Captain had called those people savages but the biologist couldn’t really find them all too savage and even if they were he didn’t care.

The man was much more interested in how they stayed as healthy as they were, how they looked still young at a relatively high age and why their people seemed to have a higher life expectancy than them.

But the most intriguing and impressive thing about it was that even his conditions seemed to get better with every day he remained on the island what had led him to the conclusion that whatever it was that made them immune to diseases wasn’t something within those people themselves but had to do with something on the island or something those people did otherwise Theodore would have felt as sick and miserable as always. The man from the noble family had much less crippling stomach ache, his weak heart had become stronger and flickered less and his asthma had become less severe and it was easier for him to breathe, even his bad foot and knee didn’t trouble him as much anymore and the young male didn’t limp as visibly on the island as he had done back at home. For the first time in his life he didn’t feel physically weak or as if something would constantly intoxicate him but experienced feeling vibrant.

The wooden planks creaked underneath his feet when he was heading towards the door with his notebook in his hand. He was about to open the door when he turned around to his green, expensive and luxurious coat that had been sewed with golden stitches and that had a nice and soft fabric, questioning whether he should wear it to that occasion or not as it would give him a more formal appearance after all. Then again the temperatures and climate on the island was incredibly hot in his eyes and that would lead to him sweating through the great fabric of the coat and he didn’t think that a foreigner bathing in his own sweat would make too much of a good impression so he decided against it and just went in his elegant white shirt and took his head from the coat rack.

When he walked out of the house he could hear the sound of the sea behind him as well as the men of the crew doing their work and talking to each other. The Captain, who knew exactly where he was going, was eying him sceptically and with clear expectations but Theodore tried to not let that bother him as he walked down the path that led down into the village. While he was walking his jewellery made clinking noises as it usually did and the men and women of the village looked at him as they always did as well.

Theodore still had not gotten used to being stared at with that much curiosity as if he was something special and rare by so many people, well knowing that he had looked at them the same way. The young man had tried to change that though as he had experienced it himself and had deemed it quite uncomfortable. He gave the mysterious islanders who stared at him an awkward smile but it just made them stare at him more and he wanted to slap himself when he realised that he was looking down at himself now checking if there was something wrong as those gazes made him somewhat self-conscious.

There was nothing weird or out of the ordinary on him in his eyes though but he had realised that he was sweating somewhat regardless of not wearing the coat. Why on earth did that island have to be that freaking hot? He took in the islanders doing their daily tasks and their handcrafts, things that weren’t done in such a manner in his home country anymore for many decades already, he saw playing kids, some animals running loose and a young lady he had gotten to know a little more had waved at him and he had waved back at her, really happy that she would greet him and apparently wasn’t sceptical towards him anymore.

When he finally arrived at what was the residence of the headman of the tribe he wanted to knock at the door politely only to be reminded about that the islanders buildings had no doors and that there was a carpet hanging in front of the hole in the clay wall. Theodore stiffened a little as even though he had learned some of the islander’s habits he had no clue how they acted on formal meetings and he didn’t want to offend the headman now that they had finally given him the opportunity to actually speak to him and where they seemed to have started to trust him some more.

“Good morning gentlemen!” he said still standing outside. “May I enter?” the biologist asked in the islander’s language he had taken a lot of time and effort to learn good enough to communicate over the last few weeks they had been there. The carpet was pulled aside and a grumpy looking man who seemed to be the headman’s servant dragged Theodore inside. The inside was just as unimpressive as the outside of the building and compared to even the average houses of the ordinary people at home it was almost a bad joke however when his green eyes saw the headman sitting there next to a handsome man who was probably the older one’s son he couldn’t deny that they were graceful and had something impressive to them. They seemed just as mysterious as their island was and to him this island and its people were fascinating.

Theodore came to a halt and bowed before the other as the common people at home always had done before his parents and him at home. He still wasn’t an expert at the hierarchy in the islander’s society but apparently the headman was some kind of king for them and he was the son of a Lord what meant that this man had a higher status and rank than him after all. “I greet you your Majesty, it is an honour for me to follow your invitation.” The brunette spoke sounding a little brokenly in the foreign language but unlike their king at home the headman didn’t respond. The older male just looked at the foreign biologist as if he was completely weird asking himself what he was doing there and why he was bending down his head in such a strange manner.

When Theodore looked into the two men’s eyes again he saw that they didn’t know what to make out of his greeting and there was a silence that felt like it would go on for all eternity before the headman pointed at something that was like a pillow on the ground opposite of the two men and the biologist thanked him and took the seat offered looking at both of them curious and excited for what they would say to him.
