ICHIRO HANDA KENSOU OZU URI SUWA HEAT WAS TRULY A CRUEL MISTRESS, ONCE THOSE SCORCHING SUMMERS ROLLED AROUND PEOPLE HAD BECOME MORE INTOLERABLE THAN EVER. THE HEAT WAS TO BLAME OF COURSE, IT MADE EVERYONE MAD AND LESS COOPERATIVE. OF COURSE THAT'S WHY HIS MOTHER HAD PACKED HIS BAGS THIS MORNING AND SENT HIM ON HIS WAY TO A STRANGERS HOME WITHOUT EVEN WANTING TO TALK IT OVER THOUGH SHE HAD HER REASONS. ICHIRO HAD BEEN GIVEN MANY CHANCES TO FIX HIMSELF AND HIS MISTAKES, TO TAKE A PATH THAT WOULDN'T MAKE HIS MOTHER BEAT HIM WITH A BROOM FOR IT AND THEN LATER CRY OVER HOW HORRID OF A JOB SHE HAD DONE WITH HER SON EVEN THOUGH THEY BOTH KNEW IT WASN'T HER FAULT. BUT THAT'S WHAT MOTHERS DID, THEY BLAMED THEMSELVES FOR THEY WERE THE ONES WHO CONTINUED TO WATCH AS THEIR CHILDREN GREW INTO PEOPLE OF IMPORTANCE OR INTO PEOPLE WHO STRUGGLED IN LIFE TO MAKE GOOD DECISIONS. WHAT MOTHERS DON'T KNOW HOWEVER IS THAT SOMETIMES LIFE DIDN'T GIVE THE OPTION OF GOOD LIFE DECISIONS. ICHIRO WASN'T A GENIUS SO NATURALLY HE DIDN'T CARE FOR SCHOOL VERY MUCH BUT HE DID ENJOY SPORTS LIKE BASKETBALL AND SOCCER, THOUGH HE WAS KICKED OUT OF THOSE SORTS OF CLUBS FOR REASONS SUCH AS FIGHTING AS WELL AS HIS GRADES. ICHIRO'S MOTHER WORKED TWO JOBS TO KEEP THE FAMILY AFLOAT WHILE HE WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL BUT AT SOME POINT SHE HAD GOTTEN LAID OFF AT ONE OF HER JOBS, ICHIRO HAD TO PITCH IN AND HIS SALARY WASN'T CUTTING IT WITH HIS MOTHER PREGNANT BY SOME RANDOM MAN SHE DOESN'T EVEN REMEMBER. ICHIRO NEVER WENT ONTO COLLEGE AFTER GRADUATION BECAUSE HE DECIDED TO HEAD STRAIGHT INTO THE WORKING FIELD TO HELP HIS MOTHER OUT. HE WAS A MECHANIC, LIVED WITH HIS MOTHER TO KEEP HER COMPANY AND HELP WITH BABY EXPENSES BUT LIFE WAS TOUGH. ICHIRO WAS NINETEEN WHEN THE BABY WAS BORN AND WITH BILLS PLUS THE BABIES NEEDS IT GOT TO OUT OF CONTROL. SO ICHIRO CALLED A FRIEND HE KNEW FROM HIGH SCHOOL, A GUY HE KNEW COULD GIVE HIM SOME WORK IF HE NEEDED IT AND HE DID. THE WORK WASN'T CLEAN, HE SOLD DRUGS AT THE MECHANIC SHOP HE WORKED AT AND GOT A GOOD ENOUGH CUT FOR DOING IT. LIFE WAS EASY AGAIN, UNTIL HIS MOTHER FOUND A STASH IN HIS ROOM AND INSTEAD OF ADMITTING THAT HE SOLD DRUGS, HE TOLD HER HE WAS USING. ALL THE 'DIRTY' MONEY HE HAD USED TO HELP THEIR SITUATION, SHE WOULD HAVE RETURNED EVERYTHING HE HAD GIVEN TO HER IF SHE HAD KNOWN. THAT'S HOW HE GOT STUCK STANDING OUTSIDE IN THE BLISTERING HEAT, WAITING FOR SOME STRANGERS TO PICK HIM UP AND SET HIM STRAIGHT OR SOMETHING OF THAT SORT. HIS MOTHER HAD ARRANGED THE WHOLE THING, SHE HEARD FROM A FRIEND ABOUT THESE BROTHERS WHO AGREED TO TAKE CARE OF HIM FOR A BIT AND TO BE HONEST ICHIRO WAS SUSPICIOUS OF THESE BROTHERS. HIS MOTHER SAID THAT SHE WAS NOT PAYING THEM A CENT BUT HE DIDN'T BELIEVE HER, THEY HAD TO BE GETTING SOMETHING OUT OF A GUY LIKE HIM STAYING AT THEIR PLACE. HE ONLY AGREED TO IT BECAUSE HE GOT FREE HOUSING, HIS MOTHER HAD KICKED HIM OUT OF THE HOUSE AND HE WAS IN NO POSITION TO GET HIS OWN PLACE NOW THAT HE QUIT HIS SECOND JOB, DEALING DRUGS. ICHIRO STOOD AT THE CORNER OF SAINT AVENUE, WAITING FOR ANY CAR THAT WOULD STOP AND HOPEFULLY BE THE ONE WITH HIS NEW ROOMMATES INSIDE. HE CHECKED THE DIGITAL WATCH ON HIS WRIST, IT READ 3:52 AND THEN SIGHED AS HE FIXED THE BASEBALL CAP ON HIS HEAD. HOW MUCH LONGER AM I GONNA HAVE TO WAIT FOR THESE GUYS!?! HE ASKED HIMSELF AS HE CONTINUED TO LOOK AT THE CLOCK ON HIS WRIST SWEARING HE'D LEAVE SOON IF THESE GUYS DIDN'T PICK HIM UP SOON. THINKING MORE ABOUT HIS MONEY SITUATION, HE PROMISED HIS OLD FRIEND THAT HE'D SELL FOR HIM AGAIN AFTER THINGS SETTLED DOWN FOR A BIT AND WAS ABLE TO KEEP THE FACT HIDDEN FROM HIS MOTHER. HE NEEDED TO GET SETTLED INTO HIS NEW LIVING SITUATION TOO, IF THE GUYS EVER CAME TO PICK HIM UP LIKE THEY TOLD HIS MOTHER THEY WOULD.

My character: There’s a belief that sometimes a dragon’s soul enters the womb of a woman, thinking it to be an egg. The next child to be born will then bear the soul, and as a sign of the dragon within, the child’s eyes will be unnaturally vibrant in color. Having the soul of such a magnificent beast, it is thought these dragonborn would never be satisfied marrying a human, and should become the mate of a real dragon instead. For this reason, when dragonborns come of age, they're taken to an island where dragons are often seen landing. This was the situation Iriaur found himself in. He was standing on the shore of Dragon Island, waving to his parents who had come to see him off, and wearing the traditional wedding attire of his village, which consisted of a loose fitting white tunic and pants, both heavily embroidered with blue and green flowery vines. He also had boots, a grey hooded cloak and a backpack with some food in it, but that was all. When he could no longer see the people on the boat, he turned around and started walking inland while thinking about his future. Having grown up in a village in the middle of nowhere, Iri had never even seen a real dragon. Of course there had been pictures and tales depicting them to be magical lizards the size of a mansion, but that was all he knew and it didn’t make him exactly enthusiastic about his situation. Even if he had the soul of a dragon, it didn’t make his body into one, and the stories made sure everyone knew just how insignificant humans were in comparison. How was he supposed to become a mate to something like that? He had tried voicing his doubts several times along the years but they’d always been refuted with the phrase It’ll be okay, because you’re a dragonborn. He had no way out.

He was well on his way into the mountains just beyond his hometown. Locals had been very concerned with dragon sightings around this area- and rightly so. While they haven't had a dragon attack in almost a hundred years, the history alone was devastating… neighboring places had similarly gristly tales. Though the hunters who all claimed to have seen it said it was large, Elye doubted that a very large dragon wouldn't have attacked already.He assumed that it wasn't quite big enough to cause such legendary carnage. He guessed that, if he was quick and careful, he could slay the beast. He would save the town from another gruesome story in history, and he would easily win the heart- and hand- of Lady Alnosie. And at last… Elye would become a knight! 'Lady Alnosie…' He thought again, looking up at the clear blue sky, and he stood up, ready to continue, putting his bag over his shoulder. Elye suspected that he may have to camp out for a night or two before discovering where the dragon resided, something he was prepared for. He smiled to himself as he continued deeper up the mountain path. 'Enjoy your last few hours, drake,' Elye thought, a wicked grin spreading across his face.
