As the room grew silent for a moment Haruhi looked at Yumro who was the first to break it. “….Yes, it’s been discussed…from my understanding it’s inevitable. It’s the trade he has to give in order for his life to be spared. That’s how I understood it.” Haruhi explained as his brow furrowed the conversation a sore topic he had argued with Yukie for many years over. “Oh really?” Haruhi asked a touch of angry sarcasm in his voice as he looked at Yumro wondering why now he had changed. Why now after Haruhi had gone through his grief while Haru was away. He had came to a sorrowful acceptance that Haru would come back ready to accept his destiny. “…he damned my son to suffer as he did…all for nothing? All of the training from young…everything he’s done since he was reborn was for him to take over to fill this role…and he just throws him away.” Haruhi said with a mama bear grumble as he moved away from Yumro a touch of anger burning in him as he took a moment to calm down. The news was ultimately happy, Haru would have his own path and not be tied to this life…to Yukies fated path. He should be grateful. So why did Haru feel so much rage? “Don’t…get me wrong I’m happy for Haru….I'm also worried what this will do to him. To be raised as an heir and tossed once he was trained to be ready. That shit fucks people up. His whole life he’s been destined for this…thrown his whole self into it.” Haruhi explained as he looked at Yumro his words underlying that he was afraid for Haru in the sense he had lost his purpose in life. Taking a shaky breath Haruhi punched the bridge of his nose before hearing Yumro continue the man listening with an open mind. “….Ha. Thinking for themselves. That’s rich, they couldn’t pour water out of a boot if the instructions were on the heel.” Haruhi explained with a deep annoyed laugh as he looked at Yumro. ”I’ve seen what happens when they aren’t checked…when they think for themselves, govern themselves. People get hurt…they have no voice. Innocents die.” Haruhi stated his voice hard as he stared off into the distance trying to make sense of everything and put away his own feelings as best as he could. Getting out of bed Haru sighed and paced the room a little feeling the need to walk and relieve some tension from their talk. He wasn’t overly distressed by the news hell he had an inkling something was off, something had somehow shifted. ”I…I won’t oppose you if you want to take over. Gods know you would do an amazing job. You’re perfect for it really….Yukie also deserves to step down to finally take the burden off of his shoulders. He never asked to rule this demon world he created.” Haruhi said as he looked at Yumro for a second instantly calming as he caught his lovers eyes. Sighing softly Haruhi crawled back across the bed and over to his mate settling down in his lovers lap. ”I want Haru to be in a good headspace before you accept…if you want to do it. Make sure this isn’t something that damages him. You know he’s always thought so highly of you.” Haruhi said with a deep sigh as he snuggled into his lovers chest. “My feelings are to conflicted with this….I worry I would make it worse trying to help Haru. It’s not something I could begin to understand how to navigate. I can only offer my love… and fight for his feelings…I know what it feels like to be abandoned…to feel replaced.” Haruhi explained as he thought back to his own parents who didn’t want him for what he was, who had more children after abandoning him…they had only changed when he had become useful to them. He didn’t want Haru to go through that. —————— “I’m sorry for crying so much…it’s just hard.” Haru said his voice breaking as more tears fell down his face as he looked at Shan. “I want you to stay please.” Haru added as he tried to calm himself only breaking down harder as he wiped away more tears from his eyes. ”It’s not just…this.” Haru mentioned to the blood and raw meat in front of him the food still difficult to accept having been so against meat for so long. “I…I don’t think I was good enough while away. I tried really really hard and…It didn’t matter.” Haru said his voice breaking a little. “I went away to step into what I have spent my whole life training for…and I wasn’t good enough. I don’t know why. I-I feel so messed up inside with everything…” Haru said as he clutched at his chest his feelings such a deep ache as he tried to make sense of how much things had for him spiraled in the last two weeks. “Everything hurts….and I don’t know how to fix it.” Haru whispered as he looked at Shan feeling so empty inside as he spoke as he couldn’t help the tears falling from his face as he tried not to fully break down sobbing. “I should be happy I’m home…but all I want is to try and fix things. To do better….I don’t understand why he doesn’t want me now. I don’t know…” Haru added as he just broke down again sobbing harder than before as all of his emotions bubbled up. Haru the poor demon had always kept his emotions in check due before his trip. He hadn’t needed to feel them because it was against his role for his future now having completed everything Yukie wanted for him as an heir he had full range of everything, powers, emotional intelligence, everything he could ever need. The downside was he had been fully rejected even as gentle and nicely… as it had been Haru had never been allowed to feel such complex emotions before. So his response when it finally hit him…. Well it was a feeling of complete rejection, failure in his duties…and a devastating disappointment in himself. To Haru his world was breaking apart he couldn’t understand it…and it felt like he was dying and suffocating all in one go. Leaning into Shan as, a deep sob escaped his lips he just clung to his friend and cried accepting Shans offer of staying, the lad so desperate for something he could understand and make sense of. He needed in this moment to have a life raft as he calmed himself…to find a way to ground himself, and as Haru did he would in this moment forever remember Shans kindness, and this moment between them. It took awhile but Haru did eventually calm the pain easing as he finally let out all the pain that had built up over the weeks. “I’m sorry…for this…I…I don’t know how…or what to say…and….I think I ruined your shirt and possibly…might have become a little too upset in front of you” Haru said his voice confused and so tiered and broken as he spoke. Looking at Shans shirt covered in tears and smeared blood he felt a small burst of embarrassment as he sat beside Shan his body still shaking slightly as it trying to fully settle as he kept his head rested on Shans shoulder. ———— “If you dare move from this spot or take care of it yourself in a fucking bathroom…you’ll never hear the end of it from me.” Yukie said his voice tight as he let out a deep needy groan.
