What would you advice to a shy person on the site, to do to get over their shyness and talk to people on YO?...

I'd advice the following:

You just really have to be confident. when you talk to someone don't sweat it, think in your head "who cares." because chances are, if you're confident and not worried about making conversation, they won't think of you negatively.

A greaaaaat way to start up a conversation is to be funny and humorous. like, make a joke, or tell a funny story. it always helps to make people laughhh :) that's what i usually do.

I agree to your advice, Giggly!

A good starting point could be asking which is their favorite manga or anime because almost everyone here likes anime and manga and you could ask for recommendations or give recommendations, share your favorite manga. That could help develop a conversation. :)

I think people should stay calm when starting a conversation. The worst thing you can do is to panic when starting a conversation because it's felt in the conversation.

Among all of what you said, I did the other way around when I first got here. I speak very formal and I am very nervous when I start writing anything here but I try to overcome my shyness by posting my comments on all interesting threads and answering them back.

Thank you very much and maximum respect to everyone. [bow]

I have issues like this and

I quite agree with you!

And being yourself is a wonderful thing! And you'll make friends who are interested in chatting with you. Others, not so much perhaps.

From my experience, sometimes there are people popping out of nowhere and started to chat away about things that aren't my type or area of expertise. [for example, i'm not knowledgeable in tv dramas or roleplaying] She explored different topics than I do. I tried to communicate with her but it was just... difficult. I didn't know what else to say... ? so your suggestions were great.

I have problems with whether to be formal or not formal. There's a line.

Haha, I always switch back and forth with Japanese, casual and formal.

Be yourself, na!

i have found when i was nervous yesterday being new and all that introducing your self in the introductions forum helps also and once in the chatroom i found people that had welcomed me and it put me at ease . it made it easier to strike up a conversation knowing everyone was relaxed and genrally laid back and fun . so i don't feel shy so much or nervous so much now that i have met so many people in chat room you helped me with everything so i did not feel like such a noob .:Red_fox:
