Of course he didn't really mean what he said back there. Well... maybe truthfully he was a bit frustrated at the other's weakness. Escaping was plan B. Plan A had been to push Haru into defeating him, but seeing how the other was too sweet and gentle to fight back meant they had to run for it instead.

He couldn't have let them punish Haru for not fighting, he never wanted the other to have to feel pain like that again.

It was his responsibility to protect the other boy now. Nothing would stand in his way.

But the trouble was he wasn't exactly sure where they were going. Plan B had only been thought up the moment he realized it was truly impossible to make Haru defeat him. So this was even worse... he shouldn't have been so rash but now they had no choice but to find a way out.

He tried to stop and close his eyes, opening the third one to see a mental image of the layout of the facility, but he couldn't focus with all the alarms blaring and guards chasing them meant all he could do was send a blast of energy and then keep running while mentally cursing himself, dragging Haru along the whole way.

Naoki didn't answer him, making Haru fall silent. Was Naoki trying to escape ? The mere thought of trying to run never occurred to him.

"W-what about the others! W-we can't leave them behind! N-Naoki- please!"

Haru pleaded. Perhaps he was on to something. If Naoki could free the other children and convince them to rebel, the entire building would be in chaos and there would be so much going on that they might be able to slip out and escape.

Haru stumbles behind the other, struggling to keep up.

"Naoki--"

Before he could finish his sentence Haru tripped, the sounds of the alarms and guards terrified him. A large group of guards were gaining on them starting to fire tranquilizer darts at them.

Naoki tried to keep running, he felt like he had endless stamina somehow, like nothing would ever stop him, even having to drag the other around wasn't really slowing him down like it should.

It really seemed like for a brief that they really had a chance to escape if it weren't for the alarms setting the place on a lock down and being vastly out numbered by guards.

But still the boy wasn't giving up, they had gone this far to quit now.

Blast after blast, red light bursting out of his hand as he he kept moving forward, hitting anything and anyone in their path. They seemed almost unstoppable.

Haru was panting and out of breath. This entire time he was trying to get Naoki to talk to him but he wasn't saying a word. They just kept running aimlessly.

No matter how many times Haru screamed out his name, Naoki was too focused on escaping. He wish he knew what Naoki was thinking.

Haru jumped feeling a sharp sting on his arm. He glanced at his arm, wondering where the sudden pain came from, seeing a tranquilizer dart in his skin. His eyes quickly became heavy.

"N...naok....s-sor...y"

Haru hit the ground hard, out cold. The guards that were chasing behind them were still firing and coming up on the two fast. Perhaps this was the end.

Out of no where a wall of ice appeared before the boys, blocking off the guards and saving Naoki and Haru for the time being.

A boy with black hair and dark eyes stepped forward glaring at Naoki.

"Trying to escape by yourself is stupid..."

He muttered. Appearing behind him were other children. Each one seemed to be following the ice boy.

"If you wanna get out, you'll need a lot more people... follow me...if you can't do that, then don't bother following. "

He said darkly. He turned to the group of children behind him.

" Lets go and Hurry! To the roof!"

Naoki suddenly felt his momentum being interrupted as Haru fell behind in his step, and he cursed loudly when he realized the other had been hit.

"Hang on...!"

He hoisted up the other boy by his arms, wrapping them around his shoulders and carrying the limp Haru over his back as he braced himself to fight more guards until there was nothing left... but then a wall of ice erupted between them.

Naoki didn't like having to accept help from anyone or be told what to do, especially from another kid but it wouldn't be fair to Haru, because he knew if the other were fully awake he'd be begging them to follow the other children.

So he did, begrudgingly running after the others, but if they screwed this up he was only taking Haru and making his own way out.

Leo lead the group of children to the roof, he and a few others were taking out as many guards as they could , racing toward the top of the building. Once they reached the outside and everyone filed out. Leo, slammed the door shut and froze the handle and hinges. The sky was dark and a full moon was there only source of light.

"Stay together! "

He yelled, running toward the edge of the roof. They must of been 25 stories high and yes, they were surrounded by water, but Leo didn't want anyone to die jumping down, that was too risky. He also he wasn't sure if all the children knew how to swim.

Guards began to bang on the froze door, pissed!

Leo was running out of time. He quickly used his powers, making a ice floor underneath him as he stepped off the roof, creating somewhat of a slide as he rode on the ice as if he was riding a skate board or surfing. When he reached the bottom, he made a ice pallet large enough for all the children. He hoped the floating ice would be strong enough to support everyone.

"SLIDE DOWN!!! HURRY! ONE AT A TIME!!"

He ordered, and Lizzy made sure everyone followed it. Sending everyone down one at a time. Leo had to do it this way, if all the children tried to ride the slide down there was a good chance the ice would break. As this happened two other children guarded the door ready to fight so the rest of there comrades could easpce. It seemed like this escape plan was well thought out.

Haru was out cold. The boy probably wouldn't be waking up anytime soon, let alone recall all that happened. His body limp in Noaki's arms.

"Your next...lets take him down first. "

She pointed to Haru.

Time was ticking.

There were originally 16 children trying to escape but with Haru and Naoki that increased the children to 18 and so far only seven children were down with Leo waiting on the floating pallet.

The door wasn't going to hold out much longer .

Naoki tried to keep useful by helping to hold off the guards and create temporarily red barriers of light, but all this was a bit more challenging now that he was lugging Haru around and trying to keep him safe without loosing him.

He had to stay focused, and while his body was not tired at all his mind was starting to wear out from using the physic powers, he felt his vision blurring slightly as he stumbled up onto the roof, still clutching tight to his friend as they lined up.

He wasn't sure of this plan even if it was their only option there was no way in hell he was sending Haru down that precarious looking ice bridge by himself. What if he slipped off the edge and fell to his death below? Or was captured again by the guards if he did survive? No, they were doing this together no matter what.

So he carefully placed the other child in front of his lap as he sat down, holding Haru against his chest as he pushed off to go down together.

Maybe there combined weight would be too much, maybe they would both just break the fragile ice and fall down to their death. But they had to try... He closed his eyes as he felt the air woosh past them and held onto his friend with an iron grip.

The clock was ticking, and every second counted. When Naoki refused to let Haru go down the ice slide by himself Lizzy glared at him.

"But- ugh...

She sighed heavily realizing this was not the time or place to argue. She glanced at Haru before meeting Naoki's gaze. His eyes were firm, and unwavering. Did he...care about him? He had a intense look in his eyes that almost intimidated her. She knew that no matter what she said, Naoki would not be swayed.

"Alright -Fine. Go down with him. Hurry. "

Her focus turning to the next child.

Haru would feel warm and soft against the others chest. His breathing shallow. Naoki would most likely feel the beat of Haru's heart against his skin as the two descended the building, the wind whipping widely around them.

Luckily the two made it down safely, despite the fact of there combined weight. When the two made it to the bottom , Leo could only sigh, he was trying to remain calm despite the frantic situation.

"You two can sit over here. "

He pointed, placing children. His once floating pallet now looked more like a boat. The ice boy was creating edges and a thicker surface while trying to keep everyone calm and assisting in getting everyone aboard.

On top of the roof, the guards had finally broken down the door.

"Oh no... "

Lizzy pushed the last kid down, as two of her friends were fighting off the guards. She wanted to help them, however. It was vital that she escape with everyone else. You could hear the gun fire and screaming from above. It was foolish to think everyone could escape. She took a step forward, as if to help her friends but they urgered her to go! To leave them behind. She wanted to argue back and refuse but the moment she heard Leo shouting for her...she knew she had to go.

"LIZZY!!!

Tears built up in her eyes as she left her friends, sliding down the ice. When she reached the bottom she was crying.

We can't go! We can't leave them! P-please !"

"We have too! Lizzy I swear we will come back for them, but right now we are responsible for everyone else - We have to go! Otherwise there sacrifice will be for nothing!! Please...we need you. "

Lizzy was the person who could make or break his plan. He needed her ability. He needed desperately.

With a simple nod, Lizzy quickly got into the water, holding on tightly to the icy edge and began to kick her feet. Pushing the boat forward, her ability was speed. She was fast, so fast that she could run to another country in minutes. With her pushing the boat and kicking her legs, Leo had created a speed boat for them to escape. The second the boat moved resulted in all the children being jerked back, not expecting the sudden force of speed.

"Juila..You know what to do. I just need you to mask us for a few minutes. "

A girl with dark hair and purple eyes nodded, gripping the boat and using her ability. To everyone else, no one would know what she was doing, but Leo was having her make the entire boat invisible, hoping he'd loose the guards chasing them. This was important , since Leo could hear multi helicopters taking off from the building. They were not free yet.

It seemed Leo somehow knew everyone's ability. But how?

"How do you know everyone's abilities? And who made you the leader?"

Naoki scoffed softly, shaking his head. He was still clutching onto Haru safely in his arms, his head resting on his shoulder.

With any hope this would be the last time his friend ever had to feel pain or fear again, he wanted him to wake up in a place where things were going to be better.

Maybe it was naive to be that optimistic in a world that was so messed up, but they had to hold onto something. A belief of a better future.

Leo smirked at Naoki.

"Why are you here?"

The boy said rather coldly. He didn't need the others doubt or questions right now. This was not the time to argue with or inform Naoki of how he put this all together.

It took Lizzy about 12 minutes to get the make shift boat to the rocky shore. A large metal wall blocked their entrance to the city and all sorts of waste and trash surrounded them. None of the children knew what the outside world was like. At this moment. Leo no longer had a plan. His plan was to get outside...he couldn't comprehend or prepare himself for what to do next if they made it outside. His eyes searched the metal wall for some sort of opening, but it was dark and unlikely he'd find a way in.

"Naoki can you blast a hole in this wall, we only got about 6 minutes before the helicopters are on top of us. Once inside...I...I think we should all scatter and regroup somewhere. We can't stay together. "

Scattering made sense since it would make it difficult for the organization to catch all of them, however...it ment that everyone was out on their own and considering that none of the kids knew how to survive outside, this just might be a disastrous plan.

"Where should we regroup?"

A child asked, scared. Leo bit his lip. He didn't have an answer.

"L-Leo t-there coming!"

Julia shierked seeing a few boats coming toward them.

Now that they made it outside it was clear...everyone needed to continue to run and fend for themselves.

Naoki glanced down at his friend to see that he was still out cold, he cursed softly underneath his breath. He needed to think, but everyone was so loud it was breaking his concentration!

"Shut up..."

He growled, squeezing his eyes shut tightly as he held onto Haru, there wasn't anytime left and he couldn't protect him.

He turned to Leo and with a hard glare looked straight into the other boy's eyes.

"I can help us all escape but you have to promise to keep him safe. Protect him no matter what the cost is."

He wouldn't say it out loud, but Naoki already knew that Haru's life was the most valuable amongst anyone else's because of the powers he could develop. With that potential could one day be their last hope.

Naoki shoved Haru over to Leo, they were almost here, he could hear the roar of the helicopter's blades slicing through the air above them and he concentrated hard, forming the energy he needed to blast right through the metal barrier.

Time was not on their side. The organizations soldiers were about to be right on top of them, and to Leo's discomfort there last hope was Naoki.

"Naoki!! Its now or never!" Leo shouted, watching the boats and helicopters get closer and closer. To his surprise, Naoki turned to him, greeting him with such a intense glare that it gave him chills.

"I can help us all escape but you have to promise to keep him safe. Protect him no matter what the cost is." [/Quote] Leo blinked, his eyes falling to Haru who looked to be the weakest child here. He really cares about this kid? Seriously? He thought to himself. Leo got the feeling that if Haru wasn't with them then Naoki would have let ever one get captured. It was clear that he only cared about himself and Haru.

"I swear I'll protect him. " Leo shouted, just as the helicopters landed bright white lights on them. Naoki shoved the unconscious Haru into his arms and blasted a hole into the metal barrier that blocked there path.

"EVERYONE! Run inside and hide! Do whatever you have to do to survive and don't let them catch you!! We have to split up!! Now go!!"

Leo and all the kids rushed into the opening and scattered into the slums of the city. Before them was a world they never knew existed. There were so many lights and moving vichales. Signs flashing and grabbing your attention. Citizens staring at them in confusion and awe.

Lizzy, Julia, and Leo stuck together and made a B line towards an dark alley. Leo had moved Haru to his back as he ran with his friends losing sight of the other children.

We need to get as far away from here as possible and hide. Come on.."

Luckily the helicopters couldn't follow the children in but it didn't take long for the boats to land on the rocky shore. Soldiers quickly rushed into the metal opening with traquizler guns and masks.

"Check every where! Don't let them escape!!"

Years have passed by and survival in the new environment was harsh. Not many of the experiments survived and most of those that did fell victim to the exploitation of the new world. Sure they had powers, but deep down they were still just children and children are vulnerable.

Even Naoki couldn't avoid that, while hiding his powers from the rest of society he is taken apprentice by a man who works him to the bone doing odd jobs for minimal pay, but he has food and a roof over his head. And when the old man is asleep at night he practices his powers in secret, building them stronger while never forgetting about the friend he promised to find again one day...

[ 10 years later ]

"Again!" Leo shouted at him as Haru came at him with a knife. The dark haired boy easily dodged his swings and slashes as if it was child's play.

"You've gotten faster~" Leo smirked at him, when Haru went for his face, he quickly grabbed his hand, freezing it. Haru groaned, dropping the knife and hitting the floor with a loud thud.

"You still leave your feet wide open Haru. How many times do I have to tell you to always be on guard. "

"You said you wouldn't use your powers, you damn cheater. "

"Do you think your enemies play by the rules? What - you gonna cry like you did when we were kids?"

Haru glared at the other as he slowly stood, dusting himself off.

"Fine...you asked for it.."

Haru raised his fists, getting into a fighting stance, his body started to release black smoke and the tension in the room quickly shifted. Leo smirked, getting excited now that there fight was getting serious. The temperature in the room quickly dropped, as frost started to form on his skin and his breath became vistable.

"I'll try not to kill you."

"As if you could."

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Haru sighed, falling on the couch. Almost everyday Leo would take the remaining experiments to a abandon factory to train and fight. Ten years had passed since Haru escaped, and boy...had he changed. Leo was the first to notice how detached Haru became. It was as if, the more Haru used his abilities and died...the more a little piece of his humanity died with him. To the underground world, Haru was known as the demon. A unkillable thug that ruled the underground streets terrorizing gangs and there leaders. He had unintentionally made a name for himself, but he hoped that the organization wouldn't take notice. He had been running away from them for so long, that sometimes he wondered if he really was free.

"I'm going out. "

He muttered. Lizzy's eyes followed him.

"Be careful ok. Stay low. "

"Yeah yeah..I know Lizzy...Be back in 4"

Haru headed for the streets in the slums.
