Personality:

Naive. Gullible. Reckless. Stubborn. Soft-hearted. Idealist. Envious. Selfless.

History:

Eden Cross—illegitimate son of King Oswald and an unidentified courtesan—was raised from birth in the royal palace, without knowledge of his origins. Although palace retainers kept their dutiful promise of keeping his lineage a secret from the masses, Eden was privately subjected to clandestine discrimination: A majority of the royal family and elites outcasted him, including his father. Throughout his lonely childhood, Eden strived in his studies and practices, to impress everyone. Unfortunately, his achievements were often shadowed by his older, half-brother and true heir to the throne—Liam Cross. Eventually, Eden adopted a rebellious character, in a desperate attempt to steal attention.

Now, Eden's motivation to win favor in the Kingdom of Blackwood has declined. Henceforth, he often sneaks out of the palace and roams the town squares. As a result, a personal knight was appointed to watch over and train him to be a respectable heir. Because Eden's identity remains unknown to the masses, he is able to interact with commoners, without being recognized.

NAME:

AGE:

31

APPEARANCE:

ATTIRE:

latest?cb=20130808103942

Schemed to his prince's House colors.

PERSONALITY:

Self-assured. Ill-tempered. Determined. Prideful. Egotistical. Possessive. Unreasonable, at times.

HISTORY:

Orphaned and taken into a well known dynasty as a boy, Miyagi was raised by commoners - a mere baker and his wife, but the pair cherished Miyagi as if he were their true son. For what happened to his real parents, and the village he once lived within, Miyagi wanted to become a swordsman in order to avenge them all. When he was finished with chores, he'd train for the remainder of the day - so long as there was light in the sky, he was in the fields, swinging a sword he'd carved from a tree branch, until one day a very pretty woman approached him and commented on the fact he was going about his training all wrong. His enthusiasm was right, but what was the point of it if he was just going to continue teaching himself incorrectly. And of course, conceited as he was, and very wrathful after what happened to his village, he questioned how some random woman like her would know about swordsmanship! It just so happened to be, she was a famous onna-bugeisha (or female warrior), protector of the royal family and trainer to samurai, even some of the best warriors trained beneath her. Learning this left Miyagi flustered - not exactly in a rush to apologize for his words, but his clear misunderstanding and surprise humored Miho Yara and seeing him that way was enough for her.

He became intrigued by her, sometimes watching her wield swords in secret. Of course, she always knew he was there, but she never coaxed him out of hiding. She waited until the day he approached her himself, and asked her to train him, apologizing for the way he'd spoken to her in the fields. She agreed and for many years, trained Miyagi and became a close companion to the younger male, knowing of his true feelings for her but not acting upon them...

A terrible fate saw to it that the dynasty they served was attacked, people slaughtered, and homes burned to the ground. Miyagi was urged to run and take care of himself while Miho stayed behind to rescue others and fight oncoming threats. By doing this, she was killed too, but told Miyagi not to grieve for her & to let her go.

Her death took a huge toll on him regardless, perhaps stronger than that of his parents and village. He loved her so much, but he had nowhere to go now, and no one he was willing to serve in these lands. So he crossed the seas, forever thinking of his sensei, even as he swore his sword and his service to a new king. Miho's death has hardened him by then, and because of it not many welcome his company. It doesn't help he's an outsider among the king's guard, but he somehow made a place for himself in the Kingdom of Blackwood regardless.

Flurries of drifting dust glimmered, between gentle shafts of sunlight that descended through lofty, stained-glass windows. The soft flecks of color that beamed down washed the palace library in vibrant rainbows. Shelves of fading books and scrolls bathed in the radiant warmth of afternoon sun. A cool breeze tinged with the scent of roses wandered in, through an ajar window facing the palace garden. It rustled loose papers and wildly flipped through the yellowing pages of an old journal, at a desk tucked away in a corner. The pile of papers lifted, revealing a snoozing male beneath.

Eden rubbed his brown eyes, as they teared with a yawn. Shifting beneath the reflection of stain-glass, his auburn hair took on a emerald hue. He pushed his long bangs out of his face. Now that his senses were sharpening, he noticed that his tutor was no where in sight. Eden sighed. Another instructor had given up on him. Well, he couldn't help being bored, during the Latin lecture. In all fairness, the instructor hardly tried to engage his attention.

Tilting his head back, Eden rocked in a creaking, wooden chair. Though he had no recollection of where it came from, he hummed a nostalgic melody, filling the colorful space above him with paper airplanes.

Down long, and sometimes twisting corridors, knights and handmaidens gossiped among themselves in low voices, turning their reproachful gazes toward the foreigner trekking through the castle halls, who within days had been appointed to the Kingsguard ━ a high honor for a knight. Even higher for one who crossed seas to reach Blackwood. Miyagi, his name was, but most just referred to him as "The Silence"; that is, if they weren't mocking him. The commoners never had anything to say, always enthralled by his swordsmanship and foreign essence, but the knights he served among whispered words of fury and envy beneath their breaths when they thought he wasn't listening. Miyagi just so-happened to do things his own way; he behaved different, dressed different, fought different...and the other knights all figured he did it for the attention. Why else would a man who now served another King refuse to where the appropriate attire?

"Thinks he's too good for us," One of the knights mumbled as Miyagi moved soundlessly toward the library.

"As if the Kingsguard wasn't enough, he's been assigned to watch over the prince, too." Another replied.

Miyagi had nothing to say back. In due time, they would pay for their arrogance in their own ways.

Upon reaching his destination, Miyagi kept his presence unknown, as it was a custom of his to only be seen when he wanted to be seen, a lesson passed down from his former sensei. Most of his face concealed by a veil of russet material, there was nothing but his dark, scrutinizing gaze ━ watching the prince rock in his chair, hum unidentified tunes, and scatter paper planes around the area. Out of boredom, no doubt. Or perhaps he was doing it to pass the time. Regardless, it was making a mess. Princes should not dirty their areas so thoughtlessly.

Blinking slowly, the knight turned his gaze elsewhere, searching for equipment and finding none. "Where is your sword, boy?" He spoke suddenly, his deep voice slicing through the air as if it were far more deadlier than the blade at his side. "Or do you plan on building one of those from paper, too?" He sneered.

He had expected too much, possibly. Thinking he would have been met with untamed enthusiasm and readiness.

  • 2 weeks later...

Startled, Eden lost his balance, tipping over in his chair. A dull thud echoed throughout the library, reverberating in his ears, as though mocking him. Several, paper planes fell through the stale air. A flurry of disturbed dust billowed up, from underneath him. He rubbed a tender bump on his head, glancing up at his assigned knight, from such a humiliating position.

"Jeez, Miyagi. Would it kill you to knock or announce yourself," Eden chided, addressing the man without his surname nor respectful honorifics. Standing to his feet, he set the chair upright and brushed himself off. However, such tidy attempts were futile: Numerous wrinkles crumpled his ironed shirt, and a few defiant cowlicks strayed from the rest of his already-unruly hair.

"No, I don't plan on making one out of paper. My sword is...," Eden's voice trailed off, as he frantically sifted through his mind for its whereabouts. When nothing came to mind, he chuckled uneasily, hastily thinking of an excuse. "O-Okay, so I misplaced my sword. Who cares? Studying swordsmanship is pointless anyway, since I already have you here." Even Eden couldn't accept what he was saying. That sword was a priceless rapier passed down the family line as an heirloom. Imagining what his father—King Oswald of Blackwood—would say, Eden concealed his dread with a suspicious smile.
