In this world many creatures thrive and wonder every corner, none are more numerous than the monsters and demons who devour other creatures relentlessly. The weaker beings like humans have forced themselves to come together in large communities and kingdoms, shutting themselves off from other races they could not control. Fear grew amongst the other races as well as the main kingdoms shut themselves off. The gods took pity on them and gave them each gifts to help them and for a while the blood stained earth grew fields once more as progress was made.

Currently things have been going well. The human kingdom of Anu ceil had found it’s champion at last! A youth who was never defeated since he made his debut in the arena. Someone with a cold stare who always reeked of monsters blood. He knew nothing except battle and slaying and often went outside of the protective walls just to eliminate the demon kind.

He rode out on his horse, the creatures thunderous gallops got him far quickly. However he pulled the reigns as he lifted his nose. There was no mistake, it was the smell of blood that filled the air. He followed it along with the desperate cries of a woman.

He found her finally, the beauty who was running away from two large creatures. However on further expectation… she was a monster too! Her bloodied body showed feet like talons, feathers along her body, large wings, and sharp claws. She seemed like a bird or a harpy.

She looked towards the hero with fear still in her eyes as she clutched what appeared to be an egg wrapped tightly in her arms. With her distraction the demons pounced on her as she screeched. They started to devour her alive, ripping apart her wings first as she cried out. She lifted her head up to the hero one last time before she used her shaking hands to roll her precious egg towards the hero as she yelled “Please! Take my baby! Save it!”

As she yelled the demons were aware they were not alone. They stopped their meal as they looked towards him “Look, more meat! Hurry! Catch him!”

The champion, after mounting down his stallion, just looked at the demons who were feasting upon the dying woman… beast. There was no helping to that though, aside from probably fulfilling her wish. In his many journeys in the kingdom, and even outside of it, he had not been in such a situation in which he needed to save anyone, most likely because he was ordered to leave no one alive.

But this time, he reconsidered this request. Before that though, he needed to dispose of these demons; a pretty measly task for the champion, if he could say so himself. These monsters were of the weaker kind, and he had battled much, MUCH stronger ones in the past.

After the massacre of these mindless monsters, he turned back to the egg which was left defenceless behind him. Looking down at it, he wondered, what could he possibly do with it. This was definitely the woman’s egg, not a dragon’s, so he had no idea what to do…

When the sound of the demons were silenced the siren mother looked up, her vision fading. She saw the figure take her egg as she gave a weak smile. She breathed in deeply as she reached out, starting to cry "Oh... little... Varekai..." she said to herself, each word becoming weaker. She watched on in a daze as she saw the egg move, this seeming to please her. He placed her head back down, not wishing to die of course but deciding she can be at peace at least. She closed her eyes, waiting for the lull of death to rock her to her restful sleep. Her blood soon mixing in with the giant slaughtered corpses of the demons she rested, the last image in her mind was Dimas bathed in light holding onto her child who was soon awakening.

Meanwhile inside the egg, there was a small creature who was feeling rather cramped inside. Not only cramped but... rather scared. He heard his mother struggling and fighting off some strange creatures, which made him want to remain inside his shell even more. However when he was picked up again he felt his heart beat a few moments. He shook rather excited about this feeling and wondered if it was his real mother holding him right now!

He started to hum out a tune from within his shell that could be heard from the outside. He wanted whoever was holding him to hear him so badly. The humming was a simple tune, a lullaby that his siren mother use to sing to him. The vibrations of the humming would go through to Dimas's hands, leaving a very pleasant sensation as the dragon held onto him.

Sadly the tune ended all too soon as the chick inside grew tired. He closed his eyes again to rest, the vibrations ending as the egg became still for the time being.

The dragon warrior did not look back at the mother, but he had noticed the egg move and sighed, picking up the egg that was more or less the size of… an infant. Probably bigger, but it seemed like it. Although, it did something that he did not expect. A hum seemed to make its way out of the shell, and the dragon was entranced by the beautiful, sweet voice which hummed a very peaceful tune.

He went back to his stallion, stopping only to look at the egg before he decided to take this with him back to his uncle’s manor—his home.

The very least it wasn’t anything suspicious, or at least it didn’t look like it to the servants who greeted him back at the manor. The younger servants even thought that it was a noble thing for the young master to save this little egg, after hearing his side of the story, which was just a simple “Its mother begged me to save it and I did before she got eaten by demons” because there was no other way to explain it. That was what happened.

Although, it was quite different when his uncle, Hydrian, had finally arrived to meet his nephew from his hunt. The dragon warrior knew because there was no other voice that he'd recognize and would call him by his name within the manor.

"Dimas..." was what the younger man heard.

Hydrian was a stubborn man who stood quite tall with a sturdy frame. He had long hair that reached his shoulders and a sharp gaze that always seemed to inspect everything. He was glad that his nephew returned safe as always, but of course his boy stank of battle now, which was a mix of sweat and blood. He enjoyed checking on his adopted son, seeing with his own eyes he came back scratch free. However Dimas did return with something other than scratches. He lifted a brow when the other brought home an egg. He knew it wasn't a dragon egg, and it wasn't like Dimas to raid nests to cook them. He walked closer until the two of them were only a foot apart. He then gestured toward the egg "You usually don't pick up things. What is this?" he asked, hoping it wasn't a monsters egg but already feeling uneasy about the whole situation seeing as how unregistered monsters within the wall was quite the issue.

Within the shell the small chick woke up again. It was not like it was going to stretch his limbs, seeing as how he was stuck in one position. He was happy that he still felt the presence of someone important holding him, enough so that he started to eat up what little yolk that was in his egg "I should get bigger to meet them" he said as he casually moved about in the shell, licking up any nutrients he can. As he did, the egg showed some signs of movements.

Of course when Hydrian saw it move he had a look of disdain already "It's alive? Oh Dimas don't tell me you picked up a monsters egg... You know how I feel about it." To him it was strange since Dimas never brought home pets when he was a child. He waited for his explanation.

Dimas usually didn’t, but this one seemed to have caught his eye—or rather, his ears. And the young dragon knew better than to lie to his uncle. He would eventually learn the truth either way. “An egg,” for starters, it was obviously true, “although I do not know what the creature’s name is. Its mother had wings, feathers and she had talons for legs.” Perhaps his uncle would be able to know what it was. It wasn’t a monstrous beast, but… knowing his uncle, he might still not like this creature, which was now starting to move again.

However, Dimas showed no sign of wanting to let go of this egg though, for some bizarre reason that he didn’t know. He just felt that it was his. “It’s not a monster. It will not be a monster.” Under Dimas’ care, he will not allow whatever creature inside this egg become one.

If Hydrian was stubborn, so was Dimas. After all, the older dragon had raised the younger one like his own. It was possible that some traits rubbed off on Dimas while he grew up under his uncle’s care.

Hydrian right away assumed a harpy from Dimas's description and wondered what was wrong with the boy. Personally Hydrian thought harpies to be ugly bird monsters with the face of a woman. However he knew Dimas better and it was unusual for a harpy to speak in their tongue any way. He wondered what was in that egg. Still while looking at his nephew hoard the egg, with no signs of loosening his grip on it he sighed. He was not one to fight his nephew with physical force for anything, just to give orders. He slowly shook his head and gave his nephew a stern look "Whatever hatches from that egg needs to be gone before it gets to big and noticeable. The humans here are paranoid, if there was an unregistered beast or monster in town, they wont take it lightly." He continued to walk forward, wondering when the egg will hatch soon so he can inspect the creature himself.

Outside some of the more nosy maids were listening. When they say Hydrian coming their way they scattered. They pouted, always thinking the man was much to strict on Dimas. They thought it was somewhat cute, the idea of Dimas having a baby animal as a pet.

The chick from within the egg had finished off what little yolk and egg whites there was left. Not really paying attention to the conversation that was happening outside that concerned it. When Hydrian left the creature inside playfully knocked against it's shell with it's foot *Tap tap tap*

The chick stopped and waited to get a response back, playing a small game.

Dimas knew what his uncle would say, or at least the thought of his statement. They would be for him to be careful of this unknown creature inside the egg, not only for his own sake but for theirs, and the people of this kingdom. Or at least he cared for them as much. The young dragon did nod at that, because how his uncle said it meant he would be able to keep it until it hatched. Who knew just what it would be if it hatched…

Definitely just like the mother before it died: A human-bird sort of beast, but its race still unknown to Dimas. “I’ll be careful.”

However, the younger female servants had gone back to Dimas and flocked around him, definitely eager to know just what it was as their young master was—although it didn’t show in his face. He was more curious than excited. It seemed to have moved more when they were looking at it, and when the egg seemed to hatch, Dimas’ eyes narrowed. Would it hatch soon? The thing inside it seemed alive, and conscious of what was going outside. Should he be worried for that? Since it was just an infant, they didn’t have to worry because if it were a demon, Dimas could easily kill this one off before it could take away lives of others. Still, the young dragon tapped back at the egg and eyed it carefully.

What would it do next?

“Young master? The bath is ready.” A sweet lady said as she bowed to him. “Would you want us to clean that egg as well while you’ll be bathing?”

Dimas shook his head. “I’ll take it with me.” He can’t explain why he wanted this little egg all to himself. And so, the young man had walked to the direction of the bath chamber, cleaning himself of the filthy blood of weak demons with the egg nestled nearby. He gave it a look, then washed the dirt and blood away by pouring a bucket of warm water on it. “What are you?”

When the chick in the egg heard a few taps back in response it became giddy and a bit bashful to the point it did not tap back, just tucked its face behind its wings. He heard other voices, but since no one seemed to be fighting it didn't cause concern. It was almost as if it could feel the others curiosity and thought to itself "I'm a bird, a biiiird. Do you want me out? I will try hard" it said in it's mind.

He didn't know where he was, but the room he was in certainly was warm, which made him stir more. When the warm water was placed on top of him he nearly jumped, which made it look like the egg cracked from the temperature difference.

For a while there was no sound coming from the egg until more movement pushed the broken shell apart, tearing the membrane from inside. It finally split and collapsed, a clear gooey fluid dribbling out. It's head was still covered by a broken shell, but there was a pudgy body of a baby bird. It tried to stand but because it couldn't see from the shell, just flopped on its belly ".... hic......"

Watching the egg crack a little bit and move afterwards was a bit surprising. He had seen a few dragons at the castle hatch, thanks to the prince, but not a bird… human… creature. Perhaps using warm water was a bad idea, but then again, Dimas thought it was not so bad. Though, he did not expect the egg to hatch so easily like that.

Now though, he wasn’t really sure just what to do with it. It was small and looked really fragile, yet the dragon warrior just picked it up as gently as it could closer to his face for further inspection. It seemed like an ordinary… baby—no, hatchling. Its body was covered in feathers what seemed to be a dark pink colour, but that was probably due to the fluid it had been in that shell. The head feathers were a lighter shade of pink, but the fluffy part on his neck was white, just like what you see in any bird hatchling. One thing’s for sure, he washed that gooey stuff off the bird and sighed. Should he tell his uncle about this?

Or should he not? Then again, it would be obvious since there were broken shells. One of the eager servants has made her way in, making the man’s robes an excuse to see Dimas—and the egg. Mostly the to see how Dimas was taking care of it. Seeing broken egg shells was probably a terrible thing to see, but seeing the man bathe with the bird in the tub was another. She was squealing with delight. “Y-Young master… it has hatched. How did you do it?” She asked.

Dimas cringed at her voice. One reason why he didn’t like the humans here: they were loud. “Pipe it.” Dimas ordered, leaving the girl silent but still hopeful for an answer. The bird… baby was cute. The young master replied. “Poured some warm water on it. Was supposed to clean it but… this thing just hatched.”

When he was picked up the shell that was on its head fell off as he opened his eyes. He blinked a few times staring at the face of his new mother, instantly imprinting on him. He nearly gasped looking at the face that may as well been god himself. However he did start to struggle and squirm when he was getting cleaned, pushing at the others hand with his weak small wings. He continued to look up at him and slowly flapped his arms when he was in the bath with him, not sure how he felt about being in the water.

When an unknown person came in he pushed his face against Dimas as a few chirps and squeaks were heard constantly. He pressed his wings against the others skin and started patting it as he chirped a few more times. Being in the bright and loud world outside of his protective shell was quite a new experience. All these new feelings were coming and the only way he knew how to show any emotion was too... "Screeeeeeeeeeech!"

The bird’s struggles were not very much welcomed by the man but he managed to not get angry. Of course, patience was one of the things his uncle taught him, but he didn’t really know HOW to bathe a hatchling this small and soft… “Stop struggling.” He muttered, as he basically just pulled it to his chest to get him to stop moving too much. For a hatchling, it was really eccentric—or maybe it just didn’t like water? Being bathed? Wasn’t that a natural thing to get the fluids off of an infant?

What made it all the more harder to control the bird was when the servant started speaking to him. Gods, this was beginning to annoy Dimas. He glared at the servant and muttered. “Leave. It’s scared.” Or something. Dimas only assumed the bird was scared since he was trying to hide behind his arm.

The maid was a bit shocked and disappointed that she had to leave so early. But she found a new bounce in her step when she realized she was one of the first servants to see what was in the egg. She nodded and scurried off, hoping that maybe Dimas would let them babysit his new pet "Yes my master" she said as she bowed and went away.

However even after her leave Varekai still cried loudly, seeming to only cry now because he couldn't stop. He tried to get up higher so he could be closer to the others face but Dimas's tight hold kept him still. He tired himself out and started to blubber before he looked up at the other with his large dark eyes. They were full of tears still as he settled down before chirping as if to speak. As if by some weird connection, the chirps were somewhat understandable "Mama I'm hungry and wet! You are mama right? You must be because you're here." After his babble he turned his head to the side to put one of Dimas's fingers in his mouth. However he wasn't suckling like a normal infant would. He was gnawing on him, or more accurately gumming him.

It was a rather strange turn of events for our hero. In just one day he went from a brutal warrior whose only interest was bathing in the blood of demons and those who stood in his way, to a care taker of an infant of another species. The calming peace would soon flee, Hydrian hearing the cries and knowing something was born sooner than he expected. The elder wouldn't pester his nephew about it now however, seeing as a baby was no threat.

Now Dimas could only hope that these humans would inform him of how to take care of an infant—human or not. Perhaps he should even refer to Hydrian’s library to see what kind of creature this bird was. If it was a harmless harpy, it wouldn’t be that bad to keep it, right? But he doubted that it was a measly harpy since its voice was far too different.

Somehow though, now that they were left alone, Dimas sort of understood just what this little bird wanted. Since it was suckling on his fingers and sighed. Well, they were clean now, so it would be best to leave the bath and get them dry. Doing so, Dimas had put on the robe prepared for him, and the dry towel around the bird instead of putting it on his head to dry his hair.

Indeed, it was far too strange for this young hero. He, himself, didn’t know why he was fond of the bird, but nonetheless, he was aware of the consequences of having a new pet. If this WAS going to be a pet; if it could talk, gods have mercy; he might be a foster parent of this strange creature. But its eyes seemed one thing that attracted him to it, aside from its heavenly voice. They were like a dark blue gem colour.

Even on just his robes – of course, clothing his private areas – Dimas went to the pantry to ask any of the servants if they had any idea what an infant like this would like. Fruits? Milk? Perhaps some grains? Hey, the pink thing was a bird, after all.

One of the older maids had whispered to one another. “Isn’t it a bit weird to see our young master caring for a child?”

“It does seem like that, but all the more it makes him more admirable.”

“I agree…”

It seems that they were just ogling at this scenery right here while the others were gathering things that the infant may eat, and of course, meat was not included in the list. Oh, but Dimas could hear some of the things that these women were gossiping about, least he cared about it though. He had no intentions of having human partners.
