xXUnicornLoveXx
Hey bros and sisters! I wanted to share this neat find I managed to snag on Suruga-ya... a pretty obscure seeming doujin-made BL from around 2005, Yuyu Chakan e Youkoso!/遊遊茶館へようこそ! From plugging things into translators and such, it seems to be about the protagonist running a teahouse. He enters into some kind of competition and has to run the teahouse in the meantime, I think. It also categorizes itself as a sort of business simulator/shop management game, which I thought was rather interesting. Definitely don't see those being made into yaoi VNs. I actually first discovered it while compiling my post about Please Register/ Sign In, in order to see the links. . I was trying to romanize the various titles for alphabetizing and noticed that this one had absolutely no information on VNDB or anywhere on the Western internet. I eventually forgot about it... until I saw a listing for the game disk while perusing Suruga-ya. I saw the title and went, "Hey, wait a minute. I know this from somewhere..." Sure enough, it was the same game! I decided to buy it for a whole ¥1,380 (about $8 American freedom dollars). Definitely a steal! After that, I got inspired. I wanted to archive it properly and gather whatever info I could to share with BL/yaoi fans. I checked through the Japanese side of the internet too, but there was only a tiny handful of mentions... but still way more than what there was in English. But what I could find was it was created by a circle called "Sunny Sea Blue". Like the game itself, there was virtually no information about them either. Not to mention, the site is defunct, which is... unfortunately kind of a given. But I did find that it has a bunch of captures on Please Register/ Sign In, in order to see the links. , spanning all the way back to 2003! Can't believe that's over 20 years ago at the time of writing this... But I digress- it was a breakthrough to find! I went through some of the captures and found out that SSB is just one lady- Ishiyama Nanao-san*- who handled everything! She did the art, making the game, etc. I also found the character page, which lists the main and side characters, their roles, a little bit about their personalities, and the kanji/hiragana for their names! Top row: Nakazato Kazuma (protag), Shiba Naoyuki, Obinata Chiharu, and Mayama Satoru Middle row: Nakazato Hitoshi (protag's dad), Nakazato Misaki (protag's mom), Hiraishi Kouzou, Liu Wen De (approx. romanization- written only in kanji, most likely a Chinese name), Yang Shang Rui (same deal as Mr. Liu) Bottom character: Izumisawa Keigo (Sorry the text in the picture is so small! That's kinda just how it came out.) Speaking of the characters... seems like Izumisawa is a newer addition, as evidenced by the "new" icon above his name. I did see that in older captures Yang and Izumisawa didn't exist yet, if memory serves right. That said, I did see on Suruga-ya had previous listings of versions 1.0.0 (still mad I missed out on buying this one!), 1.2.0 (what I have), 1.2.1, and 1.3.1, which is the newest version that I've seen overall. In one of the readme text files, there is a changelog saying what was fixed in 1.2.0. I think it was mainly bug fixes. I do wish I had 1.0.0 and 1.3.1 though! I would've loved to seen the differences! There was also a trial disc too. Wish I could've grabbed that as well! I genuinely wonder who has the other copies. Since it's an all ages game, it was up for grabs on Suruga-ya's .com site, which lets foreigners buy everything they have in their stock with the exception of their R18 stuff. So, it could either be in the hands of Japanese yaoi fans or foreign ones. But I know for a fact I'm the only Westerner who's documenting this game! Which... wow, isn't that kinda neat? That makes me pretty happy! It feels incredible to have the privilege to preserve this game all these years later. Ishiyama-san's hard work deserves to be known! Making a whole game, let alone multiple versions, all by yourself has to be quite a lot. A 2005 capture from her “About” section mentioned she was just an average Monday–Friday worker who really loved BL. Doing that during a 9-5 is just plain impressive. Trying to do damn near anything recreational with a 40(+) hour work week feels impossible, so my respect for her is massive. You can tell she put a lot of love in this game! I see it, Ishiyama-san. I do. Fujoshi adult woman to fujoshi adult woman cross-temporal communication. Fujoshi adult woman to fujoshi adult woman cross-temporal conversation. *I'm certain her last name is Ishiyama (石山), but I'm not a million percent sure of her first name (奈尚). I guess the most common reading is apparently Nanao. Edited 1 hour ago by xXUnicornLoveXx CD cover image added
