Synopsis
Functioning as the prequel of Rumspringa no Joukei (but could be a standalone), Dear Gene is a rollercoaster of a story about a young Amish man called Gene and a slightly older lawyer named Trevor. Hop on and enjoy the ride set in 1970s America as they discover not only each other (and New York to boot) but also themselves, because who doesn't like a tear-jerker, am I right? For people who love beautiful stories but aren't afraid to cry, enjoy Morikawa Toshiyuki and Murase Ayumu showing just how good they are at their job by throwing every vocal range they have at you with a combination of sad and sappy piano OSTs backing them up, just to make you cry even harder. But fret not! There is no bittersweet without the sweetness. Of course, there are plenty of cute, sexy and funny moments as well, all voiced with beautiful nuances.

A little bit of personal blabbering
I would definitely recommend reading and listening to Rumspringa no Joukei beforehand. It is just as beautiful, with different voice actors but the same heartfelt acting. Both CDs feel like an extreme amount of care have been put into them, just like the manga.

Here's to everyone who's a fan of Murase Ayumu and has been patiently waiting for a slightly more mature blcd role for him. Ever since first hearing his voice as Gene in Rumspringa, I had been praying for Gene and Trevor's story to receive their own BLCD. I loved the series so much that I had little to no hesitation buying both volumes, and boy, did it not disappoint. Of course, Murase could so much as blow in the mic and I'd be happy, but Morikawa Toshiyuki complemented his voice very well and surprised me an awful lot of times with both his vocal range as the gentleness in his voice (he has the perfect ASMR voice I swear!!!!). Anyways, this is by far one of my favorite blcds and if anyone wants to gush more about it, feel free to slide in my dms and scream with me!

But dang, it’s been nearly four years since the last manga update I read. And is Trevor old now when he visits his old house and what happened to Gene? I can’t speak Nihongo, so I’m usually guessing the story just by skimming a booklet or the raw manga. Seriously, can someone spill the tea on how it all ends?

Oopsie, that’s on me! Finished the manga, and I was sobbing, no joke! The ending was chef’s kiss. The story’s writing? Flawless. The art? Literally breathtaking. Even if it’s fiction, it hooks you so deep, it’s like the characters and story  are real. When I got my money,  I will sure support the OG artist.
