Those words settled somewhere deep in his chest. He stayed there for a few seconds, staring at the ceiling, then turned his head slightly followed by his body , until he was fully on his side, facing Asher. “I know” he said quietly. For a moment, he just looked at him. The sharp lines of his profile softened in the low light, tension eased now that his eyes were closed. He looked less like an Alpha in that moment. Less like someone carrying a pack on his shoulders. More of a man trying very hard to do the right thing. “Dinner was… a lot,” Kaito admitted, voice softer now, more honest than before. “Not bad. Just … new.” A faint breath left him. “Your brother didn’t throw me out, your sister-in-law didn’t trip over me, and no one challenged me to a duel, so… I’m counting it as a success.” There was a small hint of dry humor there. Kaito held his gaze on Asher for another second, just long enough for it to mean something, before he let himself relax again, sighing as he closed his eyes. "Good night then" he mumbled through his lips. He trusts us, his wolf said quietly. “…Yeah .... I do too.” ----------------------------------------------------- Sleep didn’t come all at once. It crept in slowly through the warmth of the room, the steady presence beside him, the quiet absence of danger for the first time in what felt like forever. His body, still catching up to everything it had been through gave in first, then his thoughts followed and his breathing evened out. His body relaxed instantly as the scent of musk surrounded him feeling like home. Kaito shifted without realizing it, moving closer toward the warmth beside him. And then, almost unconsciously, his arm moved, sliding across the space between them until it came to rest around Asher’s waist. His fingers curled lightly into the fabric of the blanket on Asher’s side as his body settled closer, drawn by the comfort and safety that he felt. By morning Kaito was half-curled into Asher’s side, arm draped loosely around him, breath warm against his shoulder, like the distance he’d so carefully maintained had never existed at all.

“I feel the same, everything feels so different. It’s hard to explain…the best I can describe is it’s like my world is less…empty…less lonely when you’re with me.” Yukie admitted with a small smile as he took Julius’s hand in his, holding it all the more closer as they danced. Yukie followed Julius soaking in every second of closeness between them as they seemed to be the only ones in their own little world. Swirling and dancing around the room Yukie caught glimpses of his mates happiness in his shining eyes. The sight was breathtaking. Taking a shaky breath Yukie danced for hours more until the music slowed and he rested his head on Julius’s shoulder soaking in his lovers scent. ”….I…I can’t begin to tell you what tonight has meant to me.” Yukie whispered his voice so gentle as if any of the pain he ever held had been permanently soothed by this enchanting night. “I know…that I’ll been dreaming of you, that this will be such a strong memory…” Yukie mumbled as he gently kissed Julius’s neck savoring the soft touch of their skin meeting. “When I come back. I want to marry you….I want to have our life together and step back from work…just us forever.” Yukie promised as he held Julius all the closer knowing deep in his heart it was time and he would make his desires a reality no matter the cost. —————— “…I feel like I’ll be ready to go. To find this part of myself I’ve been looking for.” Haru admitted as he stared into the fire his mind heavy as he thought about how many paths in his family he had learned about, how his own path would be just as heavy. ”….Will it break me if I have to take a life….I don’t want to….but….no one talks about these things not Yukie or mom….d-did it haunt you when you first took one?” Haru asked his voice heavy with the burden of knowing that he may one day need to do such a thing. Haru was taking so many new things in stride in such short time…but he was still so young. His future was so vast and unknown to him, it was paved with such heavy tasks…with problems that would weigh him down and alter his very sense of self. Haru couldn’t help the feeling of uncertainty for how he would prepare for such a future. He had grown up hearing how Yukie had caved and fallen to vices and broke hard under all of the pressure, how lonely and difficult this world was for him when he lost Ren, how despite trying in his effort he had destroyed his own family broken them all to the point of leaving him. Haru wasn’t stupid…he was aware that it could happen to him if he wasn’t careful. The thought alone of having such a future was anxiety inducing. “Would you both…still want me…if I end up different when I come back?” Haru asked softly his voice a bit too timid as he asked such a question so unsure of how much one could truly accept another’s changes. ————— “One you won’t explode at least not like that but you can hurt your stomach if you do this a lot sometimes past repair so just be mindful of that.” Haruhi explained as he tried to calm Shan. Sitting down beside him the air was awkward between them as Haruhi sipped his drink mulling over how to handle Shan since he was so different from Haru. Hearing Shan suddenly address him as mum made Haruhi smile his happiness at the name burning with love as he looked at Shan. Watching him ask for something being so unsure and shy Haruhi could only gently tousle his sons hair. ”Of course! I would be honored to teach you all I know.” Haruhi stated with a smile as he lead the way and went to the bookshelf looking for some paper so he could write some simple music to teach Shan how to read it.
