Leon held him as tightly as he dared, arms wrapped protectively around Asta's trembling frame. The boy’s face was still buried in his chest, hot tears soaking into the fabric of his shirt, his sobs quieter now but still raw. Still jagged. Leon could feel each one like it was striking his own ribs. But he didn’t back away or even flinched. One hand moved slowly along Asta’s back, a steady, grounding motion. The other remained cradling the back of his head, fingers threaded gently through his hair. And then Leon finally spoke again. His voice was low. Quiet. But certain. “You’re going to walk again.” The words weren’t hollow. They weren’t hopeful. They were absolute. Leon leaned back just enough to look at him. Not forcing eye contact, but needing to be close, needing the words to reach him. “I don’t care what the doctors say. I don’t care how long it takes, or how hard it is. You’re going to walk again, Asta.” His voice stayed steady. “Because I’m going to help you. Every step. Every single day.” He could feel the tension still coiled in Asta’s shoulders. The pain. The weight of everything that had been taken from him. So Leon pressed forward, not with promises of miracles, but of commitment. He swallowed hard, pushing past the lump in his throat. I’ll still be here. Not because I feel guilty. Not because I owe it to you.” He reached up again, brushing the tears from Asta’s cheek with a touch so soft it almost hurt to feel it. “But because I love you.” The words came without hesitation. “I love you,” he said again, quieter now. “And whatever life looks like after this... I want to face it with you. Your happiness... it’s not separate from mine. It is mine.” “I want to be here for all of it. The good days. The brutal ones. I don’t care.” His hands tightened just slightly, like he was afraid Asta might disappear if he didn’t. “I’m not going anywhere.” There wasn't like an rehearsed speech he'd done in his head. Leon couldn’t fix what had been done to Asta. But he made it clear, he would support him in every way as much of it as Asta would let him. ----------------------- Sora didn’t even mind the awful nickname as Fang lifted his head and saw Sora was awake. The human’s eyes softened when they met his, though his body still held a quiet tension. Strangely was, that Fang’s reaction to the nurse entering the room actually madd Sora feel safer. Calmer, even. And a small smile tugged at his lips before he turned his attention back to the nurse when she spoke. Sora was silence after the nurse had gone, the soft click of the door closing still echoing in his ears. His mind was spinning, but his body felt too heavy to move. It felt like something had been ripped out of him and replaced too quickly. Relief, yes, but also fear. The kind that came when something precious was returned to you, only you weren’t sure if it was still whole. He closed his eyes for a moment, just listening to the low hum of machines and the distant echo of voices in the hallway beyond the room. Somewhere in this building, Asta was breathing the same air. Somewhere, he was lying in a bed just like this one, probably hurting, probably just as confused. He imagine Asta on a hospital bed, pale and quiet, hooked up to IVs and monitors. He didn’t know what they’d done to him. Didn’t know what he’d been through. All he knew was that Asta had been found. Right now it was all that mattered. Fang’s voice broke him from his thoughts. [“...you ok...”] “ ...y-eah” Sora said, voice hoarse while he nodded his head. He swallowed, trying to wet his dry throat enough to speak more clearly. “…Thank you,” he rasped. His voice came better this time. “You helped getting him back. Just as you promised.” He watched the side of Fang’s face, hoping he didn’t sound so weak. It was hard to speak when he felt like his chest might cave in from everything he was holding inside. “I don’t… I don’t know how to say it right,” he went on, slower now, “But it is something I’ll never forget.. Asta is like a brother to me” His gaze dropped for a moment, drifting to the IV in his arm. Fang hadn’t just saved Asta, he had taken a real risk doing it. And yet, here he was, still choosing to stay by Sora’s side. Sora glanced at Fang’s hand and slowly reached out, brushing his fingers across the back of it. He gently entwined their fingers together, his touch soft and lingering. “Thank you,” Sora said, looking up at Fang with a sincere smile as he gave his hand a squeeze. “You’re incredible.” A faint blush touched his cheeks as he went on, voice quieter but no less honest. “And if I weren’t hurting so much right now, I’d pull you into this bed and kiss you stupid.” A teasing smile tugged at his lips as he looked down at their now joined hands. Still, beneath the affection, a pang of guilt lingered. He kept dragging Fang into his messes. Fang was a genuinely good guy. Someone who had clearly lived through more than Sora could begin to imagine. The scars covering his body told stories Sora hadn’t heard yet, but he didn’t need the details to know they weren’t easy ones. Despite the demons he still wrestled with, Fang always made the effort to protect those he cared about. The ones he'd let into his guarded world. His exterior might be hard and cold, but Sora had been showned the warmth underneath. "Are you.. okay?" He asked as he glanced over Fang collar like he was seeing a bit of bandages under the other's shirt.
