Julius smiled as Yukie perked up, the storm of tears quieting to a gentle breeze. That small, shy smile barely there, but undeniably real was like sunlight breaking through heavy cloud cover. It eased the tightness in Julius’s chest, allowed him to breathe a little deeper. There was something impossibly tender in the way Yukie stroked his hand with his thumb, slow and deliberate. The world around them blurred further into the background, muted and distant. Julius didn’t care. In this moment, it was just them. Wrapped in silence, in closeness, in the sacred stillness that follows a soul laid bare. It was magical. Julius liked being with Yukie like this, just the two of them. It made everything feel real. Not just their love, but the bond between them growing strong as they spend everything second of the day together. But even as the warmth lingered, a shadow tugged at Julius like an invisible thread. Time. Sooner or later, Yukie would leave him. And he feared he would miss him far too much. Julius was gonna try not to count the days, try not to feel the echo of absence. Still, he wouldn’t let that creeping ache ruin the here and now. When Yukie added they should go look for flowers as well, his voice was soft and steady, yet still carried a vulnerability underneath. Julius grinned. “Flowers, huh? If we’re talking scents and colors, I should warn you, I’m a witch. I know things most shop owners don't. But what kind of flowers do you like?.. I like most flowers. But my favorite is a little one called 'Forget-Me-Not'. It’s a wildflower, nothing fancy. But it’s quietly charming." Now that he thought about it. Maybe he should have a small thing make for Yukie with that flower. Something his mate could wear to make him feel Julius close to his heart. Even while they were apart. -------------- Oh… was that a hint of jealousy he heard? Yumro smiled faintly, his expression unreadable but his eyes soft with fondness as he led them toward the glowing shallows near the coast. The fading coral gave way to waving sea grass, and the light filtering from above had turned to dusky amber, a soft curtain of sunfire trembling on the ocean’s surface. He didn’t say anything right away. Not to the boy trailing so close to his side. Not to the frustration he could feel coiling like seaweed. Instead, he gave Haru’s hand the gentlest tug. His fingers tightened for just a second in response to the trembling anger he could feel hiding beneath Haru’s voice. He remembered that feeling. The confusion. The ache of a body that shifted like it was fighting him at every turn. The bitter, quiet fear of not being good enough, fast enough, strong enough, worthy enough. Yumro understood it more than Haru knew. He glanced back just enough to catch Shan still following beside them, the boy’s fingers still locked around Haru’s. Shan’s face was taut with concern, but his aura was brightening, flickering more confidently now that Haru was with them again. Shan’s affection was simple towards the other. A devotion not yet shaped by adult words or forms. Yumro slowed his swimming just slightly, letting the currents carry them gently forward as he finally let his voice rise, low and calm like deep water. “It hurts because you’re still growing,” Yumro said. “It’s the price for the change” He didn’t glance back. He didn’t need to. “You think I changed easily?” His tone held no mockery, only quiet truth. “It took me decades. I broke bones. Tore skin. Nearly died more than once. I bled through transformations that I wasn’t ready for yo train myself. What you feel now. I have felt a hundred times over.” His tail swept behind him in slow, elegant movements. “You’re not doing bad,” Yumro added. “You’re just asking your body to carry more.” Yumro’s expression shifted slightly, eyes gleaming with a glint of wry amusement. “But,” he added, tone drier now, “if I didn’t know better, I’d say you sound jealous.” From behind, Shan blinked, startled by the comment, his gaze darting between the two. He didn’t say anything but his grip on Haru’s hand grew a little firmer, like he wasn’t sure if Yumro was teasing or if Haru was genuinely upset. Yumro finally looked back, just enough for Shan to see the slight upward curl of his lips. “I change easily now because I trained and stopped trying to become someone else’s version of what I'd haft to be,” he said, his voice quieter again. “The forms stopped hurting when I got use to it and accepted that I'm never gonna be a copy. Not my father’s. Not my mother's. Just me.. Don't use most of these forms anymore though. I prefer something more simple that this” He turned again, leading them up through the sea grass and scattered kelp beds that swayed like dancers in the tide. Above them, the coastline loomed, a line of rocks kissed by gold and foam.
