When Sora told him that he'd be staying, that he didnt have to bargain with him in order to do so, a wave of relief washed over Fang. Sora's touch was comforting, soothing even as he spoke, telling him to test the fox tomorrow and rest today. He sighed under his breath knowing Sora was right, he just hated admitting it sometimes. Fang didnt move, he wanted to remain like this for as long as Sora allowed. This closeness was something he had be missing for months. [ “I don’t mind you being protective, just… don’t forget I’m not going anywhere. You don’t have to hold on so tight to keep me.”] Fang felt Sora's lips aginest his, closing the distance and sealing his words with a kiss. There was nothing sensational about it, it was just a small, simple kiss. Slow, soft, and deliberate. A gentle promise. He pulled back ever so slightly, there noses touching. [ “I don’t expected your overprotectivness to be over just after one night, we'll take baby steps.” ] "You weren't supposed to agree with me..." He muttered, a small smirk on his face. Now that Sora knew the turth... it felt like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. He had nothing to hide anymore. He could finally be, his authentic self. Would things be easier now? Better? Sora took his hand, pulling him forward. Fang didn't protest, if Sora wanted to tuck him in, he'd allow it. He was honestly too tired to argue. He lead him to his bed nudging him forward. "Alright alright. " He muttered, climbing into bed as Sora pulled the covers over him. The hand that ran through his hair was gentle...pushing away any fears or doubts he had. [ "Rest okay, I'll just be in the next room"] He gave him a simple nod, his eyes following after Sora as he left the room. He sighed again, his gaze shifting towards the ceiling. He could faintly hear Sora cleaning up after the yoki fox and gently scolding him, only to play with the little creature shortly after. It made him grin alittle, shaking his head. He never imagined that he'd be loved and accepted...by a human. -------------------------- Fang had fallen asleep, but woke up hearing the sound of his bedroom door opening. He knew it was Sora, there was no need to open his eyes. He waited until he felt the weight of the bed shift before turning around to face Sora, immediately pulling him to his chest. "Took you long enough..." He whispered. His arms instinctively wrapping around him, keeping him close to his chest. The humans scent was calming... If home had a smell....then it would be Sora. Fang was asleep again within seconds. It was true....he did sleep better when Sora was in his arms. ______________________________________ [ 2 YEARS LATER ] Alot can happen in two years. After receiving Cota, Fangs tight grip on Sora had loosened. The yoki fox was relatively smart and resourceful, quickly becoming apart of the couples lives. While Fang often chased and yelled at Cota...deep down he was rather relieved to have the little guy around. Cota followed Sora two and from school or whenever Fang couldn't accompany him, or rather...when Sora didn't want him too, Cota would take on the roll. He was well behaved, staying close by but invisible to humans. Durning Sora's convenience store shifts, the fox napped behind the counter, and when Sora started volunteering again at the shelter, Cota would mingle with the strays, surprisingly getting along with the dogs and cats. Of course it would only reveal itself when Sora allowed it. The fox seemed to get along with everyone, even when Sora introduced him to Asta and Leon...the creature was friendly and energetic. It did however enjoy teasing and irking Fang when ever it could. So Cota and Fang had a sort of unspoken rivalry. As for there relationship...it had improved exponentially, but it didn't happen overnight. The first hurdle was Cota, the second...Asta and Leon. Fang was reluctant at first...but after talking things over with Sora...the human convinced him to open up to the idea of friendship. The first couple of double dates were extremely nerve wracking, as Fang didnt try to hide his grudge against Leon...and it was honestly hard for Asta and Sora to keep both men in chcek.....but ultimately...their love for the humans they had would trump any issues and anger from the past. Leon and Fang came to an agreement. "If anything bad happens...I'll look after Asta...as long as you do the same for Sora....We don't have to be friends...but...we dont have to be enemies either..." The talk Fang had with Leon initially was simple. Since there mates were friends, they would be cordial with each other, and help each other should either of their humans come in contact with danger...a truce if you will...but as weeks turned into months, the humans (Sora and Asta) had seemed to grow even closer then before. Perhaps it was because of the shared truama they endured together, and the fact that they both were dating supernatural creatures. Whatever the case, Fang found himself in Leon's presence far too often....and that awkward truce...turned into a friendship he never saw coming. Leon was the only other supernatural creature dating a human...so he had alot of knowledge and insight to offer, and to his suprise...Leon was very good at reading people, especially Asta. Fang would never admit it, but he took notes. The way Leon treated Asta was... commendable...and he never came off as commanding or aggressive towards his human... Fang wanted to learn from him. Leon had lived in the human world longer than him, and he seemed to understand them better. Having a person to talk to about humans was such a relief, and it was nice to know he wasn't the only one struggling to control his animalistic tendencies at times. Meanwhile, Fang was now the assistant manger to the club he use to bar for. It was less physically demanding, but grueling all the same. He didn't have to work long nights as much, so he was home more, but sometimes he had to bring his work with him. "If I knew running a club required so much fucking math, I would of said no.." He often complained and pouted, only to have Sora comfort him later. The only reason he agreed to the job was because of the pay increase. The thrid obstacle: Living together. Fang had suggested the idea shortly after Sora received Cota and of course Sora was hesitant. However, to Fang it only made sense for them to be living together. They'd not only be saving money but it would help with his anxiety. It took three months to convince Sora to move in, but when he finally did, the transition happened smoothly. Fang's house was small but better than Sora's apartment. He gave Sora the majority of his walk in closet and reluctantly gave him some money to decorate and re- furnitureize the place. Turning it more into a home then a empty man cave. Now when you entered the house, you could tell someone lived there...and it gave off a welcoming vibe. "Did you seriously buy coasters? " Fang sighed finding some of the things Sora bought rather pointless. "Sora, I swear to God if you buy that little shit another bed, I am going to lose it. How many god damn beds does it need!" Fang often referred to Cota as, 'little shit,' since he'd often terrorize him. Another change was Fangs hair, he cut it short. His long ponytail gone and replaced with a mop of scruffy black hair. It made him look 10 years younger, nearly resembling the younger version of himself that Sora saw in his memories. When Sora inquired about the change Fang simply shrugged saying, " Just...wanted something different. " Obstacle five: Sora and Asta were graduating college. ________________________________________ Asta found himself standing on the basketball court inside his college gymnasium. The gym was empty and his last college game was two days ago. A small smile formed on his lips as he recalled the conversation with his doctor two years ago. ( My knee felt like it was full of shattered glass back then.) The doctor had told him that the damage was extensive and that walking without a significant limp would be a miracle. Ironically, the first step in rehab wasn’t really a step. It was a tremor. A searing, humiliating attempt to just flex his quad without screaming. The fear of never feeling the pounding of dribbling a ball again… an ache in his chest. As much as Asta tried to tackle everything head on, Leon was the one to teach him how to start small. That every second, every step, was a win. Could he stand for ten seconds without support. Could he shift his weight for fifteen? Could he take an excruciating step without his knee buckling? Without Leon holding his hand. Asta was persistent sure but he was more stubborn then anything. Leon and his mother had to constantly remind him to not over do it. Rehabilitation....was ugly. And so was learning how to play basketball again. Walking wasn't a miracle; it was a struggle. A thousand tiny, painful corrections. Then the ball. Asta's first dribble was pathetic. The sound was wrong, his rhythm gone. Rebuilding the muscle was one thing; rebuilding the muscle memory, the instinct… that was another. Every pass, every shot, every defensive slide was a negotiation with pain, an argument with weakness. But within 2 years. Asta had walked. Run, and by some grace, played basketball again. However despite his comeback, he only got to play one game, and two days ago marked the end of his college basketball days. They had lost, which ment no championship and no more opportunities to be scouted. ( But...at least I played.) He thought to himself. At least he got to play with his teammates and friends one last time. The same guys who visited him, came buy for team dinners, and helped him when he didn't want to ask. Even now Asta felt the faint ache in his knee, but it didnt come close to the feeling of the ball leaving his fingertips on a jumper, or hearing the swish of a net… or the cheers from the crowd or support from his teammates, it was a feeling he thought he'd never experience again. In a week, he'd be graduating. Wearing a cap and gown, with a degree in hand. His backup plan? An Athletics degree. Perhaps he could be a fitness coach or gym teacher. Maybe help rehabilitate injured athletes like himself. He always enjoyed helping people... Asta had sent out letters to every pro team and scout whose email he could find, and poured out his heart and soul to them, telling them his story. Desperate to fulfill his dream and yet, all he got back were rejection letters. They all said the same thing: "While your story is inspiring…" "Given your medical history…" "At this time, we aren't looking for…" He sighed, picking up a ball and spinning it on his finger tip. Even though Asta didn't have a contract, he found himself feeling accomplished, regardless. Happy that he was walking...no standing! On his own two feet...and on a court no less. There's a difference between pain that breaks you and pain that forges you. To think....he almost gave up... Even before the injury, the odds of him going pro were never in his favor and maybe that’s the real victory. The fact that he defied all odds and broke the mold. That his height didnt matter. Asta takes a deep breath, squares up to the hoop from the three-point line and dribbles three times. The sound echoes in the vast silence. He rises, his form perfect, the motion fluid, and the ball leaves his fingertips... Swish. Nothing but net. ________________________________________ The last week of college is filled with heartfelt speeches and friends goofing off. Its all bitter sweet. There's nothing to learn or do, since exams are over. Showing up now is just a formality, but Asta still goes. " I still can't believe we made it this far." He mutters. Sora is sitting next to him. The two of them sitting outside enjoying there free period, the weather perfect as cherry blossoms bloom. He wondered if he would of made it this far without Sora....without Leon. He bit his lip recalling how Leon stayed by his side. There was no denying that Asta had overcome alot in such a short amount of time, but in all honesty.. he couldn't have done it without Leon. When Asta was learning how to walk again, he had his good days and bad days. Even when he took out his frustration on Leon...yelling and pushing him, in tears, he didn't waver. He met his anger with compassion, and never held those ugly moments against him. Leon had truly kept his promise... With that being said their romantic relationship was...lack luster. Asta was busy recovering, learning to walk, while continuing college. He just didn't have time for romance. It was a valid excuse... But now...he was walking and graduating. He had no more excuses. Sure the two had gone on double dates with Sora and Fang...continuing there movie nights and occasional cuddling, even kissing but...something was missing. Asta wasn't sure how they could get back to where they were before the tragedy and turmoil...thats what he truly missed. Leon swore to him, that he'd never lie to him again...and after two years...he was still here, still by his side ..so why...why was there still doubt? What if...he could never truly forgive him? "h-hey Sora...after we graduate...let's take a trip." He leaned on him, resting his head on Sora's shoulder. " Like when we were kids. Its gonna be our last summer break and I want to...enjoy it..." Sora was the reason he was able to graduate on time. The countless nights of him coming over and helping him study were appreciated. It ment alot to him, that Sora didn't leave him behind. Deep down, Asta knew he loved Leon....it was the only explanation as to why they were still 'together '. Any normal person would of left the relationship the moment they found out their partner lied about their identity...that they weren't human. That there the reason their life was suddenly shattered into a million pieces. It had been two years, and Asta was still struggling to forgive him. To trust him. Therapy helped, but there were still things he couldn't talk about or disclose to is therapist. Why couldn't he trust him? Perhaps it was because he was scared to fall blinding in love with Leon again. Maybe thats the reason there relationship had worked in the first place.... Whenever Asta was away from Leon, he could think more rationally, and logically it made sense why he wanted to keep his distance but whenever Leon was present...his emotions took over. The emotion of something familiar and comforting. Leon was his first of many...and he couldn't imagine being with anyone else. The thought never even crossed his mind until recently. If he fell in love with Leon again...it would be the real version of him...He knew he needed to make a final decision and stop going back and forth on weather or not he should be with Leon again, but it wasn't easy. Part of him felt like he was indebted to Leon. Without his belief in him...he wouldn't be walking... hell, he probably would have been swallowed up by his depression. The support he gave him was undeniable and made him fall in love with him in a different way. The question was... could he trust and accept his love. "Hey Sora...Do you think...me and Leon...make a good couple?"

. . Have A Wonderful Day - Poem by JAMES T. ADAIR Just in case nobody does say Have a wonderful day If you're at work and all the world seems to be at play Smile your work away If you're having trouble and it feels like double Do a good turn for someone else and ease their worried mind I think a little happiness you will find when you make an effort to be kind And someone else you might remind that there is hope among humankind If you're at school and you don't feel like you belong Keep in your heart a song Do your best as you sing along All your troubles and worries are here now but won't be long Someday soon you'll find a place you seek Exactly where you've belonged all along So in case nobody else would say I wish you a happy wonderful day All your worries and sadness wished away Today it's going to be better Find a little beauty in your day

“No. I told them all at once,” Asher said, not sounding defensive—just honest. “I’m not ashamed to admit that I find men more attractive than women. And with Logan’s mate being a woman, there isn’t really any expectation for me to have children anyway.” He paused, then added more quietly, as if clarifying rather than justifying himself. “So there was never any point in pretending otherwise.” For the final stop on the tour, Asher decided to show Kaito the top floor—the space that would be his, where he would be staying. They took the stairs, though a small elevator sat tucked neatly against the wall, efficient and practical should anyone ever need it. Asher didn’t bother opening any of the other doors along the hallway. He stopped only in front of the one marked with his initials, carved into a polished wooden plaque affixed to the door. “This is us,” he said, nodding toward it—but he didn’t open it. Instead, he stepped aside, giving Kaito the space to do it himself. Asher wanted to see his reaction, wanted to witness the moment the space revealed itself to him. Inside, the suite felt more like a family-sized hotel suite than part of a private home. The living area was wide and open, furnished with a large couch, a couple of comfortable chairs, a coffee table, and a sizable television mounted on the wall. In one corner sat a small kitchenette—complete with a mini fridge and cabinets stocked for snacks and drinks. Two doors branched off from the living space. One led into a short hallway with two smaller rooms and a shared bathroom. The door was usually kept closed; Asher had never really needed that much space. Still, the layout had been designed with a family in mind—ready, if children were ever part of the picture. The second door, on the opposite side of the room, led to the master bedroom. That bedroom had its own connected bathroom, everything inside clean, new, and modern. Yet it looked nothing like Asher’s personal apartment. The suite had been professionally designed, the walls painted in warm cream tones with soft splashes of green, orange, and gold scattered through pillows, artwork, and plants. The overall effect was calm and inviting, meant to soothe rather than impress. Compared to this, Asher’s apartment felt like a bachelor’s place—built for parties and noise, not rest. Asher let Kaito take the lead as they stepped inside, following a step behind. When Kaito reached the bedroom, Asher stopped at the doorway, quietly observing as thoughts flickered across Kaito’s face. The bed was massive—large enough to fit three grown men with room to spare. There was more than enough space for both of them. Of course, they hadn’t shared a bed before, and Asher couldn’t be sure whether that would make Kaito uncomfortable. Not that he would ever do anything without Kaito’s consent. He could have offered one of the spare rooms; they had beds too, always clean and ready thanks to the staff. But he didn’t bring it up. [“You’re sure? .. I don’t want to disrupt your space.”] Asher met his gaze. “I’d actually sleep better,” he said honestly. And it was true. If Kaito slept beside him, Asher wouldn’t feel the constant urge to check on him every few minutes throughout the night. Having Kaito in his bed would be easier for both of them. Giving Kaito space Asher move into the living-room —but still kept watching him anyway. He told himself it was habit, the same quiet vigilance he had with everything he cared about. He’d approved every detail of the suite months ago, yet standing here now, the room felt unfamiliar. Not because of the design, but because of the possibility it held. Sharing space didn’t bothered him. But it was also something he hadn’t really done before. Asher straightened and glanced around. “I won’t force you,” he said evenly, breaking the quiet. His voice carried no pressure, only fact. “If you want space, you can." Asher leaned briefly against the wall, arms folding loosely as he exhaled. The tension in his shoulders eased a fraction. Having Kaito here— close enough that Asher wouldn’t have to listen for unfamiliar sounds in the night—settled something inside him. He wasn’t sure if It possessiveness or a feeling of responsibility, that made him so childish If there was one thing Asher had learned, it was that trust grew best when it wasn’t forced. By the time Asher felt hungy, the house had settled into its evening rhythm. Lights shifted warmer, quieter. Staff moved with practiced efficiency, and somewhere below, the low murmur of voices drifted upward from the alpha’s shared kitchen. "Dinner time." Asher announced to Kaito hand showed him ti the shared kitchen on the alpha floor A wide space anchored by a long dining table built from dark wood, scarred slightly by age. Logan was already there. Asher noted, not for the first time, how different his brother looked these days. Softer around the edges, more grounded. And beside him stood the reason. Missy. Logan introduced her properly to Kaito, his hand resting at the small of her back in a way of comfort and support. Asher watched closely, like he was taking notes. Missy smiled easily, a little too quickly, and nearly knocked her elbow against the table as she shifted her weight. She caught herself with an awkward laugh, cheeks flushing. Clumsy, Asher noted. Nervous. She reminded him of someone who was still unsure where she fitted into this family. That uncertainty showed in the way her eyes flicked between Logan, Asher, and Kaito—lingering just a second longer on Kaito, as if she sensed the importance of his presence without fully understanding it. Asher knew she was aware. Not of everything, but enough. She was the only other person—besides Logan—who knew what Kaito was to him. Even then, the knowledge sat carefully contained, something she handled with obvious caution. Asher respected that. More than that, he appreciated her effort not to let it change how she treated anyone at the table. She had a good heart. That much was clear in the way she tried—perhaps too hard—to make everyone comfortable. Asher took his seat, choosing a place where Kaito would have no choice but to sit beside him. While eating Missy’s hands fluttered as she talked, nearly sending a glass tipping over before she caught it. Logan intervened smoothly, seemingly used to her by now. Asher allowed himself a rare moment of ease. This was simply family, new, imperfect, and still finding its grounds. But the people in this room were all wonderful people.
