Fang had never really been on a road trip before. He sat in the front passenger side next to Leon, while Sora and Asta sat in the back. The two graduates had changed out of there gowns and into something more relaxing. Sora with his shorts, rock band t-shirt and hair tied back to reveal his piercing. He looked more like a delinquent then him. Asta in sporty attire. The kid didn't seem to own anything else, changing into a matching set of purple shorts and a light weight, sweat resistant t-shirt. For a human who was dating a model... he truly had no sense of style. But Fang didnt react or comment on either of their attire, he had been around Sora and Asta long enough to be unfazed by their wardrobe. Durning the car ride, Fang didn't talk much. In all honesty Asta carried the majority of the conversations. If he had to calculate how much each of them spoke it would be this: Asta: 65% Sora: 20% Leon 18% Fang 2% And 2% was rather generous since he only contributed one word responses. Like: "uh huh, interesting, sure, maybe, and whatever." But thanks to Sora, Fang had grown use to Asta’s...energy? The boy use to annoy him rather easily but now...he could tolerate it. For nearly an hour he talked about all the things he wanted to do on their little retreat. It seemed the blonde had really done his research. He knew details that hadn't really crossed his mind. Like where they could eat, how far away was their beach cabin was from shops, and markets. The times when the places opened and closed and talked about all the activities they could possibly do along with deals and prices. ( How thorough...) Fang had never put or seen someone else put that much effort into hanging out with 'friends'. Fang would occasionally check on Sora, glancing at him from the rear view mirror. He was hiding his irritation well...but he knew that what happened at the ceremony was still bothering him, eating away at him. At the two-hour mark, Leon pulled into a gas station, giving them a chance to refill the tank, get snacks, use the latrine, and stretch out there legs. Leon was the first to get out, and Fang quickly followed suite. He pointed to a convenience store, asking if they wanted to join him. Fang glanced over at Sora, who refused the offer, wanting to simply stretch, so he followed suite. " I'm good." " I'll go!" Asta chimed in, climbing out of the car. Fang's eyes followed after Leon and Asta as they walked away, leaving him alone with Sora who looked deep in thought. Fang leaned against the car beside him, close enough that their shoulders almost touched. He didn't look at him directly—just let his gaze drift across the parking lot, taking in his surroundings. From watching a family load snacks and drinks into their minivan, to a truck driver pumping gas into his vehicle. But truthfully his awareness was on Sora. The way he was breathing—controlled, deliberate, like he was holding something back. The way his fingers curled into the fabric of his pockets instead of relaxing. The way his jaw had that particular tightness that meant he was thinking about something he didn't want to think about. No doubt...His father. He sighed. He hadn't said anything at the ceremony, not really. He hadn't asked if Sora was okay, hadn't tried to fix it, hadn't done anything except ruffle his hair and redirect the conversation. Because Sora didn't like being coddled. Didn't like pity. The quickest way to piss Sora off was to treat him like he was fragile. He had learned that the hard way. So instead he'd give him space. Now, standing in the sun, Fang tilted his head to the side. Breaking the silence. "You're thinking too much," he said quietly. A beat of silence. Then Fang gently bumped against Sora's shoulder—just barely, just enough to know that he was there, present, and here for him when he was ready to talk. But he wouldn't push him any further. Instead, he reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone, pretending to check it. Letting Sora have this moment of silence. Letting him sit with whatever was churning in his chest without demanding access to it... it had taken them along time to get to this point since Fang had a tendency to want to fix all of his problems. " Check it out..." He leaned in closer showing Sora his phone. "V said Cota is depressed. He keeps staring out the window waiting for you." He showed Sora a picture of the little fox, sitting on V's windowsill. He sighed, slipping his phone back into his pocket, before closing the distance between them and planting a tender kiss on the side on his neck. _____________________ Asta stood beside Leon in front of the snack wall, listening to him talk, but his eyes kept drifting toward the window—toward the two figures leaning against the car outside. Sora's head was tilted back, face turned toward the sun. Fang was beside him, phone in hand. He was hoping Fang could cheer him up...but it looked like he was getting nowhere. ( They look good together...) Leon's words finally registered, and Asta blinked, turning his attention to him. [ "It's like his outside finally matches his personality."] "Honestly?" Asta started, reaching for a bag of chips and turning it over in his hands. "I wouldn't know... He's always been like that. He's not easy to read and he typically keeps to himself." He set the chips in the basket draped over his arm and picked up a bottle of peach juice. Extra sweet. "When we first became friends, I thought he was just… quiet. Reserved. The kind of person who sits in the back of the class and rarely participates." A small smile tugged at his lips. "Then one day at school during recess, I found a injured bird. Alot of the kids didnt want to be bothered with it. One kid said we should put it out of its misery and kill it. Sora intervened. He wasn't afraid to help it. He dug through the trash and gathered materials to build a little home for the bird. I was really surprised that he knew how to feed it, and that he was so determined to help it and teach it how to fly again and thats when I realized what kind of person he it. That's when I saw how kind he was. Asta glanced toward the window again. Fang was no longer on his phone, and he was closer to Sora. "I think....Fang sees it too," Asta said softly. "Maybe that's why they work so well together. Sora's spent his whole life feeling invisible to the people who were supposed to see him. And Fang just… sees him. Without Sora having to perform, explain, or prove anything." He looked back at Leon, studying his face for a moment. "It's not that Sora changed, you're just finally seeing past what he wants you to see." Asta's expression softened. " I'm happy for him," he whispered. He smiled looking back at the snacks. "So! Are we getting the sour cream chips or the barbecue? I know Sora said he didn't want anything but I know he likes these." __________________ It didn't take long for everyone to file back into the car. But this time, Leon was in the passenger seat and Fang would be driving. They now had a full tank of gas, snacks and two more hours to go. "Hey Sora, I know you said you didn't want anything but I got you chips." Asta grinned, pulling out the barbecue chips from the convenience store bag. " You can always eat them later– OH! I totally forgot to tell you! I got that new final fantasy multiplayer game on my switch. You wanna play it?" @M-jow
