Summary: On an island off the coast of Okinawa, two young men meet on a beach. Shun Hashimoto is gay and aspires to be a novelist. He is interested in Mio Chibana, a somber high school student, and starts to flirt with him. Day by day, the two of them grow closer, but then, suddenly, Mio decides to leave the island.

Three years later, Mio returns and approaches Shun with the words, “I’ve thought about it for the past three years. I like you, Shun, even if you’re a guy.” However, when faced with the prospect of finally becoming lovers with Mio, Shun cannot take the first step towards commitment. This is a tantalizing love story about a gay novelist and a younger part-time worker.

Post’s Author Opinion:
Note: This is a personal opinion, it does not reflect YaoiOtaku’s official position towards the novel.

After months of waiting for this, not even knowing what I was waiting for exactly, I finally managed to watch it and it was beautiful.

I loved the animation, the sea and the breeze were so nice. Vibrant coloured flowers, leaves swaying into the wind, and delicious looking food. I enjoyed it all a lot. Only time I felt a bit uneasy was with how the characters look. I perceived them way younger than they actually are and I had to remind myself a few times that they are not kids, but adults. Once I got past that, everything was fine.

The film has a very nice, fresh atmosphere and I liked the story a lot. Most of it. One of the characters didn’t add anything to the plot, things could have moved in the same direction without that character’s presence, but other than that, everything went great.

I liked both Shun and Mio and I would have liked for the story to go more into their past, especially Shun’s, because although it’s easy to understand what went on there, I would have really liked for it to go deeper. I think I would have understood the characters better that way. I think I just wanted more of it, all of it.

The animation managed to open my appetite for this story, I am in no way satisfied although I liked it, so I guess I have no choice but to turn to other mediums (the original manga) and hope to get a more complete picture. I realise I listed quite a few things I didn’t like, but I really, truly, loved this film. It is so beautifully made, it gives off great vibes and it’s just such a joy to watch. With all my nagging it is probably one of my favourite anime films so far.
