I looked and searched and I saw no similar topic, I apologise if I somehow missed it.

Self explanatory, tell us what you are reading (or the last manga/novel/webtoon/etc you read) and what's your impression of it.

I just finished reading The Abbot's Ghost, or Maurice Treherne's Temptation: A Christmas Story by Louisa May Alcott and I'm planning on reading Behind a Mask, or a Woman's Power by the same author (both originally published under the pseudonym A.M. Barnard). I am in no rush to start the second one because The Abbot's Ghost was a let down. Maybe I set my expectations too high, but the story felt underdeveloped which is a shame. Hopefully the second one is better.

(novel by Anah Crow) and so far all good. I was not a fan at first, but I really like where the plot is going.

, really liked it, and I managed to read Bukiyou dakedo Daisuki sa (manga by Papiko Yamada), but I didn't like it that much (I think I rated it like 6/10), it was perhaps one of the most rushed mangas I read so far. Next I'm reading The Guardians by John Grisham. Page 6 was funny, I have the feeling I won't encounter anything as funny for at least 200 pages.

look at me go, reading all these wipes single tear

Oh boy! Since the last time I was on here I read: Koi ga Bokura wa Yurusu Hani by Modoru Motoni which was okayish. Can't say I really liked it, but eh. I did really like the art in the early chapters, tho, so pretty.

I also started to read Sebastian (Family of Lies series, although there's only one book??) by Sam Argent, but I just couldn't.* The synopsis sounded interesting, but I just couldn't go more than the first two chapters or so. Then I tried reading Shades of Gray by Brooke McKinley. I might try again with this one, perhaps I was not in the mood for it at the time. Will see.

Then I read the Deviations series by Chris Owen and Jodi Payne which ended in a huge disappointment. I would recommend only the first three books in the series, the last two ruined everything. Ugh. And I just finished reading Murder Mile by Lynda La Plante which was a really good read. The ending didn't blow me away, but everything leading to it was really good. I kinda want to look up more of her books, particularly from the same series.

*

Spoiler

What did it—or not—for me and Family of Lies, is that in chapter two, I think, Sebastian and some of his siblings drugged their father and the other siblings by putting something in their soup and went to look up for something in their father's office upstairs. It was mentioned that it wasn't until a few hours later (might have been around 5-7h) that they went back downstairs in the kitchen and, upon seeing one of his siblings with their head in the bowl of soup, Sebastian carefully lifted their head so they wouldn't drown. I don't know how to break it to you, bud, but a few hours passed out with your whole face in soup... Plus the writing style was really hard to follow, it jumped from one thing to another and it made me so confused about what was going on while being painfully obvious at the same time.

I've been reading the third book in The Mortal Instruments series, 07 Ghost, and The Promised Neverland. I also just finished reading Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte. I'm also trying to finish Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights rn. I never actually finish a book before reading something else. I just kind of start reading whatever I'm in the mood for, which I why I have a huge pile of books by my bed haha

Since last time, in the order I read them~

The Sleeping and The Dead by Ann Cleeves. OMG this book. Bad. I disliked most of the characters, just terrible people all around. I liked one of the characters, but I don't think that would have been the case if he would have been around more. The plot was interesting at first, but in the end it just left more questions than answers and relied on coincidence too much.

What Remains by Garrett Leigh. Surprisingly good (helps that I didn't read the synopsis beforehand, lol). I like Garrett Leigh so I wasn't expecting something bad, it was somewhat predictable, but overall good. If I were to describe this novel with one word it would be emotional. It just really goes for the feels.

Loving a Warrior by Melanie Hansen. Way better than I expected it to be. I really liked reading about SEALs training and that gets extra points from me, but I get some of those points back because it almost made me climb the wall for the first half of the book. (this is the first book of a series, but I am stopping here. I won't say no to another Melanie Hansen book, but the synopsis of the next two books don't appeal to me)

The Freshman by Louise Collins. Eeeeh. There are quite a lot of things not properly explained and I have some questions that I won't get an answer to, but it wasn't terrible, I did have fun. Good thing is it didn't put me off Louise Collins since I have one more book by her that I want to read. I expect a similar experience, but eeeh.

Hide and Seek by M.J. Arlidge. I just started reading this one and there are only three things that can happen regarding it; I either (1) drop it, (2) take like two weeks to finish reading it or (3) somehow power through and, who knows, it might become very interesting. Not sure how that would help since the writing style is what I can't seem to be able to get into, but well, I'll start with (3), see how far I can take it.

Oh, joy, that worked and I actually enjoyed Hide and Seek. Still not a fan of M.J. Arlidge, but I can't complain.

After I finished reading that I read Adulting 101 by Lisa Henry which is the funniest novel I read all year, then I picked up Between Ghosts by Garrett Leigh and, seriously, I need more Garrett Leigh. After I was done with that I read Out, Proud, and Prejudiced by Megan Reddaway which is a retelling of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and it was so, so frustrating. In the good way.

Right now I'm reading Blood Rites by Rachel Lynch and I just started it, but I think I'm going to enjoy it.

I'm currently reading a book by Andy Warhol -  The Philosophy of Andy Warhol.

I didn't like this artist  but when I got this book and started reading it, I found that I had a lot in common with Andy (as far as ideas are thoughts).

Update time. Let's see...

I didn't like Blood Rites as much as I thought I would so that sucks. But, oh well. Next I read Clockwork Pirate by Lyn Gala which was really interesting. My first ever steampunk novel and I think I'm getting to like Lyn Gala very, very much. Gonna look up some more books from her. Then I read Let the Wrong Light In by Avon Gale which was okayish, pretty good plot, but eh. Still, I am curious what else she wrote considering this is one of her first novels and for a first it was actually not bad.

Then I started The Christmas Angel series because, well, December, and the first book, Christmas Angel by Eli Easton, was great. Definitely an author I want to read again. But next I took a break from the series and read It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini which was not actually a funny story and although I liked the book, it made me sad.

Summerfield's Angel by Kim Fielding, second book in The Christmas Angel series, helped improve my mood, and now I just started the third book, The Magician's Angel by Jordan L. Hawk. So far I liked the first book of the series the most, but I have my hopes up.

Right, soooooo... The Magician's Angel was okay, but after that I gave up on the series. The first few pages of the next book made me want to scream into the void. It was so bad. It is so bad. Ew.

So I went ahead and read Complementary Colors by Adrienne Wilder which I liked a lot (I mean, at this point just put whatever Adrienne Wilder in front of me and I'll probably love it).
Then I read The Glass Hotel by Emily St. John Mandel. Not terrible, but not quite what I was expecting. I was bored most of the book, but eh, wasn't that bad, I did read it.
Next was The Academy by Quinn Anderson. The weirdest characters ever, they were 15yo and 20yo at the same time while displaying amazing psychological skills. Wow. (not a good wow)
But it's fine because next I read Heart by Garrett Leigh which of course I liked (at this point I like Garrett Leigh about as much as I do Adrienne Wilder), and I finally, finally read Red Heir by Lisa Henry and Sarah Honey, and I was delighted to find out there is a sequel. But that has to wait a bit.

Right now I'm reading Sycamore Row by John Grisham and it's going really well.

Uh, let's see... I have too long of a list since last time I posted here soooooo, last book read: Elf Defence by Lisa Henry and Sarah Honey, second book in the Adventures in Aguillon series. I liked the first book, Red Heir, way more, Elf Defence is just okay. I found out today that there is a third book incoming and I'm not sure I want to read that. I might, tho, because Pie. I really like Pie. But I'll see.

Meanwhile I'm trying to decide what's next. Oh, right, I read The Story of Us by Barbara Elsborg at some point and I liked it so much I went ahead and got a bunch of books by Barbara Elsborg. I might read one of those. Maybe. I'll see.

Right now I'm reading the first book of The Will Darling Adventures by K.J. Charles and it is going really well. So far I love the characters and the plot is intriguing.

I managed to read two mangas these days too, 30-sai kara no Coming Out by Saike Natsuhara and Blue Lust by Hinako which is great because I haven't read manga in a while. I surprisingly liked the first one more, and I am still a bit disappointed about the second, it could have been so much better. sigh

I'm currently on the 6th book of Sinner Series by Rhys Ford - Sin and Tonic. Unfortunately I feel like it's a bit boring compared to the first book that feature this couple, but I'm determined to get to the end of it. Hopefully Connor and Forest from the 3rd book would make an appearance!.
