Laith Ashdown

Height: 5'6

Personality: Laith cannot stand injustice, and is willing to put his life in danger to protect others from it. When he gets an idea in his head, he will do whatever it takes to achieve it. He's very outspoken about his beliefs, and is not afraid to fight for them. He's illiterate, but very intelligent and observant of the world around him.

____________________________________________________________________________

The house was so quiet that Laith could almost hear the pounding of his own heartbeat. He sat in his house, his head cradled in his hands. Anger boiled in his gut like a witches cauldron, to the point that he shook slightly. His mother and father were out caring for the cows, leaving his feelings to fester. His mother had been crying since they took away his sister to god knows where this morning, all because she's a half-elf. The king had always been outspoken on his views on anyone was isn't human, though no one expected him to haul all of them away to slave camps. Leanna was beautiful, and Laith hoped that the royal family wouldn't exploit that. Laith wanted to fight the guards, and keep his sister safe but his father held him back. Maybe it was for the best. He could be in prison right now. But Laith couldn't sit back and do nothing. Leanna wasn't the only one to be hauled away by her own will, and Laith wanted to do something to stop all of this.

Laith stood up from his seat and looked outside of the window. He saw his father embracing his mother, as she sobbed into his arms. Leanna's real parents were close family friends, who were brutally murdered on their way to the neighboring city. Thankfully, Leanna was in the care of Laith's parents at the time, so they kept her and raised her like they were her own. Leanna was family regardless of blood, and Laith was going to get her back.

If he told his parents they would try to stop him, so he had to go now. They knew how impulsive he could be, so he hoped they would know what he was up to. Laith quickly packed a small bag full of some bread and grabbed his canteen, he draped himself in a brown cloak. He grabbed his bow, and slung his quiver over his shoulder. Laith didn't even know where to start, but he hoped that everything would come together eventually. There had to be other people who shared his same thoughts and feelings about this, so he hoped that maybe he could use that to his advantage.

Laith crept outside of his house, before he ran opposite of where they were at. Laith let his feet carry him west, as he tried to map in his head where exactly he was going. Springrest was in this direction. It was small village, but it was a start to his journey. Laith walked through the outskirts of the city, a familiar sense of dread hanging over the town. People just lost their friends, lovers, neighbors, and family because of this act of intolerance. Seeing complete strangers bawling only fueled Laith's need to set this right.

"Good riddance," said one man with a smug smirk. "Those things were nothing but a nuisance. I'm happy the King did this honestly. It's nice seeing humans, and not having some ugly orc bitch ruining the scenery." The two other men laughed at his comment, and nodded in agreement. Laith bit his lip, and turned to the three men. They were much taller and burly than Laith, but he didn't care. Laith was pissed off, and this was just the tipping point. "Shut the fuck up. People just lost people they loved because of this, you intolerant pig!" Laith snapped, which made all of the men stand up straight.

"Oh, sorry. Did we offend you?" Said another man, clearly amused by Laith's rage. Laith could feel his face burn up with anger. He quickly threw off his quiver and dropped his bow.

"You know what asshole, I just lost someone dear to me because of your King. Everyone did. Just because your a racist piece of shit, doesn't mean people aren't hurt-" One of the men punched Laith in the gut, causing him to lose his breath and topple over. "Fuck." He hissed, before another took another swing. Everything seemed to happen at lightning speed then. Laith was on the ground, three men kicking and punching him. Every time Laith went to get up, they would force him back down and would continue to swing. "Get. The. Fuck. Off!" Laith yelled, blindly swinging his fists. He could feel his fist hit one of their chests, but they relentlessly continued. Laith could usually hold his own in a fight, but it was hard when he was forced onto his back. Laith silently cursed, trying to block his face with his hands as he tried to think of a way out of this.

Name: Audric Bennett

Pseudo Name: Matthew

Height: 5'10

Personality: a quiet, more reserved man whose fond of what could be considered the smallest things. Can easily be distracted by new findings or just simply his thoughts.

He has a tendency to tune out the world around him on odd occasions because of this.

Audric is a sheltered and quiet prince. Despite higher education being gifted to him, his knowledge of the world outside the castle is limited. Only being able to learn the simplest things about it from his father, which isn't exactly a worthy source. Despite not knowing much of the common world, he was curious. And scared of it.

Mostly because of the responsibility to rule it one day. Audric, to be honest, is a curious man but also a scared one. He knows everything and nothing of the world he has to inherit and it frightens him to his core. He wants to be able to see it, not control it. An opinion that's put a strain between his father and himself.

Audric never once thought that the situation that he was in currently was even a possibility. Well, while it was a constant thought buzzing in the shadows of his mind, he never once thought he would ever go through with it. Would actually leave. Would runaway from ever becoming king.

As of recent, his father did something abruptly. Something that no one was expecting of the king; The Individual Act. Such law that came to pass issued that any being considered anything but human, was to be taken and kept in Purifying camps. Once the Individual Act passed, all was quiet outside the walls of the castle. That is, until the Act was reinforced some days later. The prince could still remember the cries and please outside those walls. Begging for their children back, their lovers, their family, their friends. He can still remember their sobs of anger at what the king has done.

After a while, Audric decided to ask him what all of this was about. What was going on outside the castle? Didn't his father tell him that beings other than human was something to look down upon? Something harmful to their existence? Then why? Why were their people crying out for them? All these questions seem to spill out of him simultaneously, wanting, demanding, answers from the king.

The response from the king, was nothing new to him; that he's still young and once he becomes king in a month times, he'll understand. That for now, Audric should just trust his father's decision and continue where he'll leave off. It did nothing to alleviate that feeling of unknown fear increasingly settling in the pit of his stomach.

After the conversation, the prince could not find peace. He paced his room and fully put his attention to a thought that lingered for so long; why doesn't he just runaway? At that moment that question took hold of him, not letting go well into the next day, and the day after that. It wasn't like he did not plan for this before, mapping out the best way to leave the castle unnoticed by the guards constantly patrolling the inner and outer walls of the stone building. It wasn't until one night, Audric simply got up, changed into what he hoped would be clothes of the common people (a cream, long sleeved shirt, dark trousers and a long dark cloak), packed the things that he believes he'll need (maps of the nations and kingdom, a few stolen foods from the kitchen, a dagger gifted to him on his fifteenth birthday, and a book), and left during the darkest time of the night. When all within the castle were well into their dreams.

Well, it wasn't easy. He managed to escape the walls of the castle from the back only nearly altering maybe a few guards.Audric knew that new supplies for food is delivered to the castle very night so that the king can always have the freshest of ingredients the following day. While the farmer was busy with the guards, Audric maneuvered among the brush as quickly, and as quietly as he was able to. and as he reached the gate, feet stepping onto that stone ground as he hide himself against the nearby wall to make sure he was not noticed, he ran.

He ran and ran as fast as he could. Panting in the air of freedom as it stung like ice within his lungs. The first day, he ran until day break and found himself deep within the woods as the sun's light caressed the tops of the trees. Only stopping to take a rest and to stare dreamily up at the clouds before continuing on with a much slower pace.

And now, here Audric is maybe two days later, among the common folk. He wasn't sure how far he ventured, if he was still even remotely close to what use to be home. But to be honest, Audric wasn't even sure where home was. He didn't want to take out his map to try and figure out where he was only to find out he made no headway. Towards where, he didn't even have that in mind. The planning previously done was all on escaping, not at all on what he'll do after. Maybe he should've planned this out better? He shook his head; no, what's done is done. He's free now, it doesn't matter the destination.

He finds himself in a small village, the buildings not the best compared to the kingdom, and that fact excited him. Everything wasn't covered in compelling designs like the one back home, or, what he could see from his chamber window. It was simple, wood, and something so other worldly to him that Audric can't help but be enthusiastic over. There were people everywhere (he was happy to note that his disguise did match to some degree what the village people wore), however, none seemed as joyful as he felt. Many seemed to be aimlessly walking about with blank expressions, only moving to move with no clear idea on where. The others where in groups holding each other, crying out to the heavens with ragged sobs about someone close to them. The air itself was heavily pressing down on the village, chilling Audric just a bit.It all seems so. . .sad.

Finding himself curling into himself, mood falling a bit, he continued to walk through the bodies of people. Trying his best not to make eye contact even as he found himself curiously looking about. As he shuffled along, he heard a commotion towards his left. Audric couldn't help himself but to glance over to see a small crowd forming around whatever was happening over there. Should he go look? There could be something interesting over there, but, he doesn't know if he should stay in this village any longer. Then again, would it hurt check it out?

Another loud noise was heard from his left and he found himself walking in that direction without another thought, politely, as much as he could, moving around the residents to see what was happening. Walking around a woman, he finally sees why there's such an uproar; there are three men, quite large in size, assaulting someone on the ground. Audric couldn't get a look at him, arms shielded the strangers face. Only the ginger color of their hair standing out to him. It was awful, how aggressive the beatings were. The smaller one didn't seem to fight back. Or, were they even able to?

Audric glanced around himself; was no one going to go aide the stranger? They all already seem weighed down by sorrow. Some even stared on with some detachment towards the entire situation. Clenching his fist, the ex-prince stepped forward. Closing in on the group until he was a few feet away.

"Excuse me," he spoke as loudly as he could (he winced at the level he spoke, he doesn't like being loud). "I think it's best that you leave him alone, it's not becoming for the fight to be three on one."

Laith continued to look for an opening, his heart beating viciously in his chest. What was he going to do? He barely even began this adventure, and he was already getting his ass kicked. The men suddenly stopped at the excuse me, and turned around to face the other. One of the men smirked at the raven haired man, "What are you going to do about it, asshole?" The man said, as he walked towards him. Now that the men stopped, Laith kicked one of them in the crouch area, and pushed the other on their back before he sprung up. He looked around and saw a large rock, before he threw it at the man advancing on the raven haired man. "This is our fight, prick!" Laith said, before he spat out some blood onto the mans face, and punched him in the gut. This time it was the mans turn to double over in pain.

The men behind Laith began to stir. Laith knew it would be a bad idea if he stuck around, so he grabbed his bow and quiver, grabbed the others hand and ran. "Run!" Laith said, as he practically dragged the raven haired man away from the three men. He heard the three men shout profanities at the two of them, before they started to run after them as well. Laith took the two of them through twists and turns, hoping to shake off the three men. The men hollered at the two of them as they ran. When Laith couldn't hear them anymore, he looked behind his shoulder and found that they had lost them. He let go of the raven haired mans hand, and slumped against the wall. "Shit," He cursed, running his hand through his red locks, as he tried to catch his breath.

Laith's face was bloodied and bruised. He had a black eye, a busted lip, and his nose seemed to ooze blood. There were scratches that littered his face, adding to the mess. Dirt mingled in with the bloodied scene, hiding his freckles that kissed his cheeks. Laith began to laugh, and threw his head back against the wall. "You really saved my ass out there," Laith said, meeting his eyes with the others. "I was trying to look for an opening, but they were relentless. If you didn't come in, I would probably be passed out in the dirt or something. So, thank you." Laith offered the other man a smirk, wiping off his bloodied nose onto his cloak.

Despite the fact that he was in pretty bad shape, Laith thought it was worth it. At least he got a few hits in. They didn't look as bad as he did, but that didn't matter. "I'm Laith by the way." Laith said as he held out his hand for the other to shake. He looked at the other man up and down, his eyes catching the his gear. It was obvious to Laith that the other was traveling somewhere. He could tell by what he was carrying. "Where are you headed?" Laith asked, offering the other a smile.

Now that the adrenaline was finally starting to wear off, Laith could really feel the pain in his ribs and face. Those guys really did do a number on him, but it wasn't the first time he's gotten a beating like this - and it wouldn't be the last.

Perhaps it's best to think things over once in a while? Granted, Audric did not like the idea of the ginger being beaten to a pulp right on the dirt ridden ground. However, now he's come to a wall; the men stopped their fun to look at him. For a moment, Audric thought that it worked. Who could beat someone in the open without feeling some sense of shame, right? One of the men stalked towards him with not exactly the kindest of words, challenge oozing from his smirk.

He did not think this through; what was he going to do? When he walked through the village he didn't see any figure of authority present, add to that no one in the crowd seemed willing to step in. Audric doesn't have many options. Furrowing his eyebrows, a bit confused, he answered; "Stop you?" It sounded more like a question than a statement, because it was. The man was quite sizable, and he himself dose not have any experience in hand to hand combat. Does sword fighting count? Then again, his trainer was trying their best to train him like a prince. Meaning no actual training, only fancy swings and stances. Minimal experience, then. The man was advancing closer now, and Audric did not know what to do. The man was getting closer at an alarming rate but the ex - prince could only stand and watch.

Running can't be an option, that would defeat the purpose of him interrupting to begin with. Calling for help seems less likely, again, the crowd seemed more willing to watch. Out the corner of his eye, Audric sees something soaring in his direction at a concerning speed. It looks a lot like a -

The man in front of him fell to the ground at the projectile that hit him. A loud crack resounding from the crash as the mountain of a man crumbled to the ground in agony. "Ah." Audric wasn't expecting that, where did that come from? Hearing something coming towards him, he looked up in time to see the ginger he wanted to help running towards him in a flash of red. Grabbing his hand, and yelling at him to run, even as he dragged his body. Even when he stumbled the first couple of steps, even as he body burned and screamed at him for moving like this again, he followed the ginger. Not letting his hand go. (He does not plan on getting lost.)

They winded around corners and between buidlings, danger screaming behind them and hot on their trail. As they ran, Audric couldn't help but glance around, noting that the village was a lot bigger than he initially thought. He didn't even try to map out where they were going, the buildings moving too fast for him to memorize any significant landmarks. After what felt like ages, they stopped. Audeic bends forward and pants. His legs felt like hot needles and each time he expanded his lungs with oxygen it burned his chest like a branding iron. Standing up straight and wiping the sweat from his face, he looked over at the ginger. Bruises and blood graced the stranger's face, dirt accompanying the canvas. Despite the pain in his legs, Audric felt terrible for the other. He wished he could've helped a bit more. Though, the abrupt laughing ginger thought otherwise. Why was the stranger laughing? Audric blinked a few times as he watched the other, was it something he did not understand? But, the ginger thanked him. He felt warm at that, for being able to help in some way. Maybe he shouldn't worry about it? "You're welcome," he answered, watching the stream of blood from his nose stain the skin of his upper lip. Constantly dripping down. Those same lips curled into a smirk and Audeic snapped his eyes up. What was he doing, it's rude to stare. But, those wounds seem painful, and the stranger is. . .interesting.

Laith. He's never heard a name like that before, it seemed to fit the red head, however. Wiping his hand hastily on his cloak, Audric reached his own hand out and clasped it with the other's for a handshake. "I'm A-," he paused; was it really a good idea to tell the other his name? Audric doesn't know how close he is to the kingdom, and he's notsure people knowing who he is was going to do him any good. "M-Matthew. My name is Matthew. It's a pleasure to meet you."

It was the name of one of butler's back in the castle. And strict elderly man, but a wise one at that. Audric knee him his whole life, really. Considering that he was his assigned personal butler for a time. He Hope's that the name he chose wasn't too out of place, though.

The smile Laith offered him stretched the cut on his lip. The ginger seems nice, why would those men decided to harm such a kind person? The outside world is so baffling. Quickly letting go of Laith's hand, Audric reached into his bag and searched around for a moment before producing a handkerchief. It was made of soft cotton, pure in color with baby blue embroidery on the ends. Audric stepped into Laith's space, reaching forward and gently pressing it against the wound on the ginger's bottom lip. (The red head was quite short now that he's this close to notice.) Where is he headed? Honestly he still doesn't know. Audric thought for a second, a small frown forming somewhat into a pout. "I'm unsure," he answered honestly. "Somewhere far." Audric folds the cloth to start wiping away blood and grim.

"You're quite injured."

Laith thought that Matthews hands were soft. He suddenly felt a little self conscious about his own calloused hands, though he didn't think too much about it. He watched as Matthew reached into his bag seemingly searching for something, and pulled out a handkerchief before he stepped over to him. It was a nice handkerchief, and Laith felt a little bad that he was spoiling it on his bloodied lip - but it was such a nice gesture. Laith looked up at him, noticing the small frown form on his lips at his question. Laith smiled sympathetically at Matthew at his response, "I guess we're in the same boat..."

The comment about his injuries made Laith chuckle a little and shrugged his shoulders. "Yeah. I'm use to it though. This isn't the worst shape I've been in." Laith said, "I just... I'm passionate I guess. I lost my sister to that stupid act, and those assholes were making really insensitive remarks elves and... basically anyone who isn't human. I just can't stand it when I see or hear that shit, you know? It does get me in trouble a lot though. Believe it or not, this isn't the worst shape I've been in." Leanna was usually the one to wash away his wounds, followed by a lecture of course. She was always worrying about Laith getting into trouble, or getting into a fight that would cost his life. Growing up he always thought it was annoying having his little sister worry about him, but without her around it just made him miss her more.

"Thanks for fixing me up," Laith said with a friendly smile. "You're like a real knight in shining armor, you know. There was a huge group just watching me get my ass handed to me, and you not only distracted them, but you're even cleaning me up a bit... You're a pretty nice guy." Laith looked down the alleyway, a grin forming on his face. "You know, I'm heading towards Springrest right now... Would you like to accompany me? I don't have a set destination right now, but you seem like a fun guy to travel with."

In all honesty this man fascinated him. There was a certain... charm to Matthew that Laith found intriguing. Besides, maybe he could help him on his journey towards freeing everyone. Laith didn't want to tell him just yet what he was up to, just in case a guard or someone were to overhear. This was a dangerous game Laith was playing, and he had to plot out everything correctly. Besides, Laith enjoyed company.

Audric was glad that he was able to get most of the drying blood from Laith's skin. With most of it gone, he could see the bruises blossoming into bright purples tinged in sickly yellows. Those men really did not hold back. Moving onto the dirt, Audric began on the other's cheek. Wiping the grim as gently as he could, being mindful of the wounds. What he wasn't expecting were dots to liter Laith's face. At first he thought it was more dirt, but when he saw the small spots move with the flesh he realized they were freckles. That also seems fitting for the other; red hair like fire, and skin kissed by the sun. Even with the limited people he's met in his life, Audric as never seen anyone with such a combination of features like the shorter male. He couldn't help but map out each individual freckle with some curiosity.

Seeing Laith smile at him once more made that warm feeling return with a burst of heat. Honestly, how can someone so kind be able to withstand such a fight with three buildings in the form of humans? It was astounding,

really. Audric blinked. The same boat? Is he also lost? Or, not really having an idea on where he wants to go? He felt himself relax a bit at that; at least he was not completely alone on that, then. And that it was perfectly okay that he did not know where he want the end of his journey to be. Though, the small feeling of relief did not last long with the redhead's next words. Confessing that being beaten like this wasn't anything foriegn to him. Do common folk fight regularly? And to such an extent?

"That. . . Does not ease my concern."

What is this world that Audric entered.

Seeing that most of Laith's face was presentable, Audric began to fold the handkerchief neatly before placing it back in his bag. There might be a stream he could use to clean it up later, maybe a water basin. Listening to the ginger's story, the ex-prince felt a sense of guilt curl coldly within him. Growing inside with each word, with each sentence the other told him. The Act did this much damage? But, more importantly, none humans and humans could be family? Audric felt sick, everything his father told him about this world. Every story about unsightly creatures, of danger just behind those walls, were lies? Suddenly feeling sick, he clenched at his stomach. The taste of bile burning the back of his throat; "I did not know it affected so many people. . .," he muttered to himself. This was terrible, beyond something acceptable. Beyond logic. What else has his father done that he did not know of?

Emerging from the abyss of his thoughts, Audric attempted to seem sympathetic, as if this news did not effect him to the core of his being. Feigning as if he knew about this, the aftermath of The Act. "Well, it's quite brave of you to stand up for what you believe in." And he meant that. It took him days to plan his escape and even years to finally execute it. Even when he believed it to be the best choice of action, Audric did not stand for it until recently. So yes, Laith is quite brave to him.

He blinked once, twice in silence. Feeling the tips of his ears burn from the praise directed towards him.

"A knight," he questioned; how could such a nice person say such things. And yet, the ginger was still singing praise of his (somewhat of a successful) distraction towards those three men, even seeming to boast about how he even cleaned him up. Each praise made the ex - prince's face burn brighter and brighter. He's heard praise before from officials that would visit the castle, yet none of them ever rang with sincerity in them. With any honesty.

"I...thank you?" How is he suppose to take such compliments? He knows it's polite to give thanks to someone, but it feels so foreign saying it in response. As if such words sound weak in comparison .

He glanced in the similar direction Laith's gaze turned to. Springrest? He's heard of such a town in passing that's south of the kingdom, of he remembers coreectly. Though he's unsure if his father's influence was present in that town, or even how far it reaches. Audric looked at the other, eyes widening; accompany him? The ginger would like them to be companions of the travel? He's never had a companion before, a human one. He's had pets but never another person. Even if they both had no set destination, travelling with another would make this newfound freedom less lonely. Excited, the ex - prince could not help the giddy response as he clasped Laith's hand between his own; "Yes! I would very much so love to accompany you!"

Audric complimenting his will to stand up for others made Laith's heart skip a beat. No one really complimented him other than his sister, and even then it was his sister - that didn't count! He looked up at Audric, a light chuckle escaping from him when he questioned being called a knight. He could tell that he was making the other flustered, and he honestly thought it was kind of cute. He reminded him off a tomato, or a really ripe apple. Laith couldn't help but stare at his flushed cheeks as he looked down the alleyway, an urge to squeeze them ringing in the back of his mind. Laith always did have a problem with personal space, but he didn't want to scare off the poor guy.

When Audric's eyes went wide, an anxious lopsided smile crossed his lips. Was he going to deny his offer? Was that excitement? Laith went to say that it was a joke, and that he didn't mean it out of fear that he creeped out the other, but he qas quickly cut off when one of his hands were suddenly clasped. He jumped, startled by the sudden contact. He wasn't expecting the other to be so enthusiastic about it, but it made him grin from ear to ear. "Then it's settled!" Laith said, putting his free hand on top of Audric's. "We're partners in crime!" Laith pulled himself from the wall, and fixed his cape.

Laith had a feeling that this was going to be a great partnership. In the small amount of time they knew each other, Audric already had to save him from a fight, run away through town from them, and he even cleaned up his terribly bloody face. If that wasn't a great start to a friendship, Laith just didn't know what was. "I hear Springrest has great hot springs too. I've never been in one, never really had the opportunity to." He turned his head to face Audric with a smile, before he started walking down the alleyway. "My sister Leanna use to travel with our dad a lot - we own a farm, and would sell eggs and milk and stuff. I guess they got enough money one day to spend on something fun, so they went to the hot spring. She keeps... kept raving about it, and I've always wanted to try one out myself. Maybe we can hunt some game or something to get money. I'm pretty handy with a bow."

Laith use to do competitions with his bow. He never won first prize, but he was always in the top three. It was something that he found great pleasure in doing. He even crafted his bow and arrow himself. His fingers still had a few scars from where the knife sliced open his finger. "So Matthew, I feel like I've talked enough for an entire village. Tell me about you." Laith bumped his shoulder against Audric's arms and offered him a playful wink. He was honestly curious about the other. He never felt someone with such soft hands before, and even the handkerchief was a little nice. It made him wonder just who this man was. He assumed that he was perhaps from a middle class merchant family, and that it wasn't anything super extravagant. Laith thought that he was too nice to be a noble, or even from the royal family. Laith only met a few nobles, and he found them to be pretentious pricks - and as far as Laith could tell, his new companion was anything but.

Seeing the redhead aim such a wide grin in his direction is something Audric can assume he won't ever be use to. Such a brilliant pull of lips gestured towards him did nothing for the flush that painted his ears. Leisurely making their way towards the apples of his cheeks. Audric could not help but feel like such a sight was not becoming of a prince. Though, he's no longer a prince, to be honest. That's going to be a bit of a problem for him, reminding himself that he's no longer apart of that life. He's unsure on how long it'll take for such a truth to settle.

Feeling Laith's hand rest upon his own, he noted how rough the flesh felt against his own. Such hands spoke of work, of experience of years. It felt different from his own scar free palms, though, not a difference Audric is in any way complaining about. Such a contrast was more fascinating to him. The ex - prince titled his head in bemusement; partners in crime? Was that a good thing? Do partners participate in illegal affairs normal here? Perhaps it's just a figure of speech. Seeing his companion step off from a wall, for that split second, they were nearly chest to chest. Out of instinct, Audric stepped back. It was only polite, to give the other some space. Even if before he happily accompanied it with the ginger, even if his heart jolted at the millisecond of proximity, both then and now. No, it was simply manners.

"I'm unsure on what hot springs are." Was it normal to have hot springs? The spring time back at the kingdom were always filled with cool air and rained often. However, Laith seems so excited about it, so maybe it's a sight to behold. Audric blinked at the smile directed at him, feeling his heart jerk once more at that expression. It made him take pause for a moment, before he shook himself and move to catch up with his new travel companion, matching his pace. A farm? He's heard of them; they're a lot of work, having to take care of the land in extreme conditions daily. Audric looked over at Laith; it does explain how his skin became so sun kissed. He wonders if his sister had similar dots on her skin. For some reason, he immediately doubts the comparison. The freckles seem more special to the ginger, something so . . . Laith.

"You have to pay for hot springs?" He questioned. "But, it's weather? Are hot springs not common?" The common world is very confusing. Audric did not know one could tax the weather, it seemed appalling. (He does agree that it's not that bad of an idea from a business stand point.) He felt himself shudder at the mention of hunting; his father took him to hunt once when he was about ten years old. Audric couldn't properly handle a bow, fumbling with the weapon too complicated for him and nearly was trampled by an angered buck in the process. It's dangerous. And he feels some shame knowing that Laith will have to handle the bulk of the hunting. Though, he did not bring up his lack of skill. Hoping that maybe he could be of help when the time comes. (He really hopes.)

It took Audric a moment to realize that he was being spoken to. "Ah. Yes?" It's gonna take some time to get use to the pseudo name he gave himself. He was puzzled as to why his travel partner bumped into his shoulder, he hoped the ginger was not too injured that he could not walk straight. They might need to find a doctor to check on the shorter of the two to make sure he was alright.

He. . .he wants to know more about him. "I-," Audric looked away, training his eyes on the ground as they walked. What could he say to the other? He's not sure how much of himself he could reveal that would not hint at who he really is. The ex - prince also does not feel right having to fabricate more lies, however, he wants to keep his freedom. If it means being able to stay out of that castle, Audric will continue the lies, despite the guilt he felt. "I ran away from home," Audric confessed. "The life I lived, I had everything. But nothing at all, as well? I was a prisoner in high walls, so I left." It was a vague answer, yet it held some truth on what he went through in the castle. "I know so little of the world I live in, my only knowledge being what I was told within those confines that I feel silly calling 'home'." Audric paused, feeling that same empty void he had in the castle. Remembering all those thoughts and questions he had, wondering why is it he was a prince in name and yet had nothing. Not being able to see the Kingdom, even when he was in a carriage with his father the curtains were heavy and blocked out all views of the world he wanted to know. He wondered, if other royals had similar problems. Though, after everything he saw today, he begins to wonder if it was only him.

He cleared his throat. "My apologies, I feel as if my story is a bit of a bore in comparison."

Laith looked over at Audric when he asked why people had to pay for hot springs, and said it was a season. He thought the man was joking, but the man seemed genuinely confused. Laith gave an awkward laugh, and shook his head. This man really was a mystery to him. Laith mentally added going to a hot spring into his head, just so he could see the look of pure wonder and excitement cross his face. Audric really wasn't too bad to look at, but his he didn't want to tell him that. If the poor guy didn't know what a hot spring was, he didn't want to scare him off by confessing his attraction in men. It wasn't something Laith was quiet about, but he also didn't want Audric to feel uncomfortable. The truth would get out eventually though. Laith wasn't the type to hide his views and stances on something, especially if the topic were to come up.

Laith noticed how Audric looked at the ground, and felt kind of bad for asking him. It seemed like a rough subject for Audric to talk about. Laith was about to tell him that he didn't have to tell him, but before he could Audric started to talk. When he said he ran away from home, Laith's eyes widened. He watched him talk with great interest, and seemed to be absorbed into his tale. Laith thought it was very... sad. He never had riches, but he had a freedom - after his work on the farm was done anyways. He was always able to go where he pleased, and say whatever he wanted. Sure, what he wanted to do got him in trouble, but he had the freedom to do that. It seemed like Audric didn't really have that. Though Laith couldn't help but wonder just how wealthy the other was to have everything he ever asked for, and walls that held him in like a trapped bird.

"It's not boring. It's your story... and I think it's pretty bad ass that you escaped, you know?" Laith smiled at Audric. "You were so sheltered you don't even know what a hot spring is. You're like a tiny bird..." He looked up at Laith, before looking down at the ground. "Or... a big bird." Laith laughed at his own joke and shook his head, "but that's not the point. You ran away to experience freedom, and I think that's pretty brave." Laith couldn't even imagine what it was like growing up without being able to leave the farm. He would go stir crazy. Leanna use to say that Laith was like a wild animal - he had to roam free, and experience life to its fullest how he pleased. Audric never got that, and Laith was hell bent on sharing that with him.

Laith winked at Audric. They were finally out of the town walls, and started to walk through a thick green forest. There was a peaceful tune that some of the birds were singing, and it sounded like music to Laith's ears. The sun was just starting to set, so it's orange hue peeked through the leaves of the trees and kissed their skin. They still had an hour and a half until night would fall, but at least they made it to the forest. Laith looked over at Audric, before he started to look around the two of them. When he was certain that there was no one, he looked back at Audric.

"Huh... the road is pretty bare." Laith commented, before he kicked a rock. "It makes sense though... Everyone seemed pretty sad. I doubt they really want to go out." Laith looked down at the ground, and sighed. "I get it though. I'm honestly pretty sad about my sister but..." Laith stopped himself, and looked over his shoulder again before he looked back at Audric. He didn't want anyone else to hear their conversation. Everyone's opinion on the Individual Act seemed pretty split, and "How..." Laith sighed and ran his hand through his red hair. "How do you feel about the Individual Act?" Laith asked, looking up at Audric. Laith really hoped that Audric didn't believe in it. He really liked the idea of them being partners in crime. Before Laith told Audric about his plans to free revolt and free everyone, Laith had to know his stance on this subject.

Telling his story out loud felt like a cold confirmation of what his life really was. The days Audric lived in that castle were just as they are called, days. Days within the walls, days filled with scheduled lessons to form him into a proper prince. Days with servants willing to rush to his side and do his bidding, all to keep the prince satisfied. So many days filled with quiet dinners with his father, accepting what he told him less another argument sent him to his chambers early with no or little supper. Those days were filled with loneliness, with a deep sense of cold emptiness. The only thing Audric clung to was the stories his father told him of the outside world. Which now, only made such stories worse as he recalls them. Now knowing that they were twisted fabrications. Most likely to keep Audric from ever thinking of venturing outside those walls.

He's glad his curiosity got the best of him, that his need for freedom made that fear of the unknown nothing in comparison to the days he lived prisoner in that decorated home of his. "Bad ass," he parroted in question, wincing a bit at having to use a foul word. Again, Laith was using words that Audric just could not figure out. Maybe he could ask the ginger to explain phrases to him once they rest, the ex - prince is unsure if he could understand the locals if they all spoke in a way that reminded him of riddles. But, the smile gifted to him must hint that the term isn't something bad. It still didn't stop the confused furrow of his eyebrows. Well, he was wrong about hot springs. Why must everything be so confusing?

"A big bird?" He looked down at himself, touching his face; did he resemble a bird? Audric touched his nose, it did not feel bulbous in any way. Did it resemble that of a bird like beak? Moving his hand away from his face, he glances back over at his travel companion. His heart jolted before, but now it felt like it was attempting to leave his chest and lay bare. He couldn't agree with Laith that he was brave; he didn't stand his ground in front of his father, did not try to make his freedom in the castle. Though that fact is unknown to the redhead. Yet, the other still saw him running from his problems as brave, something praise worthy. Feeling like his chest was inflating, Audric clenched at the fabric that hid it. Ah, why is he so flustered? It's embarrassing, though, it feels nice. Hearing those words from the redhead.

The wink given to him was still puzzling; did Laith winked without his knowledge, was it something he could not help? He shrugged the thought off as they continued their walk, the buildings that surrounded them giving way to bright and dark greens of the forest. Sounds of chiming birds singing sweet melodies above their heads, the last ray's of the sun peaking through and bathing them. The sight made Audric stare on in wonder, watching the sun set with beautiful oranges painting the sky. It's different seeing it up close compared to his chamber window (which did not have the best view). Seeing it from a distance being nothing compared to the embrace of color Audric was experiencing right now.

Laith says the roads are not normally bare, and the ex - prince wondered what it was like with other travelers walking alongside him. Either going the same direction or back the way they came. At the next question, Audric turned his attention back towards the redhead. Blinking once, twice, three times in thought. What did he think about it. Humming, Audric turned his gaze back up to the sky; "I was told by t- my father that the act was put into place for our safety." He still remembers how proud his father was at being able to put the act into place, boasting about it as it neared being set into motion. "But, after seeing how melancholy the town we left was, after hearing that you lost your sister," he looked back st the ginger, pouting. "I do not believe the act is such a good thing." If he was asked a month ago, while his father was still planning it, what his feeling was on it, he would not have been able to answer clearly. While he had some doubts his opinion was solely based on the biased information from his father. It's jarring, how quickly is world view seemed to have changed after today. Audric can not lie, however, he still feels a bit apprehensive at meeting a being that was none human, but he was still curious about them as well. Though, because of the act, he's unsure he'll be able to.

The word safety made Laith's stomach churn. What was so dangerous? If anything Laith found humans to be much more dangerous than non-human's. Sure, Orcs were much stronger than humans, Elves could communicate with animals, and Fairies were more proficient in magic than humans - but that didn't make them dangerous. In Laith's opinion the king was a scared man, who needed to give the crown to someone else - but Laith wasn't sure if his son was much better. He was bound to have the same thoughts and feelings on the matter. For this countries sake, Laith hoped that the prince was better and he held onto that hope - though the hope was slim and fragile. He worried that Audric might have the same views as the royal family. His stomach felt tense thinking that his companion was the very type of person Laith was fighting against.

When Audric talked further, Laith felt like he could breath just a little. A small smile crossed his lips when he heard that the situation with his sister helped him form his own opinion. Leanna would love that. "I... I have something to tell you then, Matthew." Laith said, before he softly grabbed Audric's arm to cue him to stop. "I... I'm planning on freeing everyone." Laith said plainly, his eyes meeting with Audric's. "I... I want to get a group of people who share my same belief, free everyone from those camps, and start a revolution. I want the royal family to see that what they're doing is fucked up, and... hopefully they'll overturn it."

Laith looked at Audric, before looking down at the ground. "I-I don't want to kill them. I just... want our voices to be heard." Laith quickly added, rubbing the back of his neck anxiously. His cheeks started to flush. He was so anxious about what Audric was going to say. "What... what I'm trying to say, and you don't have to agree... Will you be my partner in crime in this? I guess it's an actual crime, but... If this goes according to plan, we can change the Kingdom, Matthew. Cresite needs changing. People are suffering, and we can do something about it."

Laith knew this could be dangerous. This is treasonous. Laith could be put to death, and he was willing to die for his beliefs. Most of the greatest people in history died for a cause they deemed worthy, and this was something he truly believed in. "Like I said, you don't have to agree to this. I mean, you just met me and this might sound crazy. We can get into Springrest, try a hot spring, and go our separate ways. I won't rope you in, if you don't want to - and I mean it. I'm not just saying that to guilt trip you. This is dangerous, but... I... I really believe in this."

The musical sounds of the forest around them was comforting under the last rays of light. That finale warmth of the sun contrasting with the cool winds of the coming night. Despite this, Audric felt like maybe this conversation was of importance to Laith? Maybe it was hard to know what side someone stood involving the Individual Act, and it did make sense that the redhead was curious on his travel partner's perspective on such a law. Less it made the travel between a little more than uncomfortable. The musical birds seem to change their tune, the once upbeat chirps turning to small peeps and long whistles. The night was a silent noise.

"Hm?" Is this what partners in crime do? Do they discuss the world around them, sharing opinions on situations in day to day life? Audric paused feeling a hand on his arm, turning his full attention on his companion. Perhaps this conversation is a lot more serioure than he initially thought. The ex - prince titled his head; free them? The only way one could do so is if it's decreed by the king himself or -.

Shock shook through his body; or a revolution. The ginger wanted to free the non-humans forcefully? Banding together with others to overthrow the royal family? Audric felt, scared. Yes, he does not agree with the act in place, knowing now that it seems unneeded and uncalled for. But to overthrow the entirety of the royal family (which, from his own knowledge of being apart of it, consisted of his father and himself) could only end in bloodshed for both parties involved. He doubts his father will go down willingly, and he knows neither would Laith. Even if Laith's plan is to cause no harm to the family, despite all that's happened, can the redhead say the same to the other people he plans to recruit?

He looked away; even all he's been through with his father, he cannot deny that man is the reason he's alive today. However, he's also the reason Audric did not know what living was. Going as far as to take lives from innocent people. He could refuse, let Laith do what he needs to do in order to free everyone and his sister. However, that castle is a maze with hundreds of guards at a minimum on sight. Not accounting for the ones patrolling the city. Laith would barely make it halfway, as well as he has no knowledge on where the camps were. He clenched his jaw. This was the ginger's way of standing his ground, of standing up for what be believed in. Knowing how bleak the outcome may be, he still stands. Audric feels shame for such a person to compliment his running away as something courageous.

It was even kind of him, telling the ex - prince that he had no obligation to follow. Saying they can continue to travel together until their destination where they'll separate. Audric exhaled shakily; "That's . . a very dangerous plan. The chances of their being some bloodshed is still present. You know the possiblity is still present, correct?" He turned his gaze back towards the redhead, teeth biting into the flesh of his bottom lip. Turning the skin red from the abuse. Searching the other's eyes for anything that meant malicious intent, anything that contradicted what he said. (He could not find a hint of any.) He really believed in this?

The king is still his father, and even with how strained their relationship is (or was), Audric still loved him. Adored him as a son would their father, even with the feeling of betrayal towards him. Though, he does not know if he can leave Laith to try and protect and save the people that was suppose to be the ex - prince's responsibility. Ah, it's ironic; he left a prison only to return to free others. Perhaps, this can be his last act as Prince of Cresite.

"If you can promise me that no harm will come to m-," he paused, correcting himself. "To the royal family, then, I will help you without question."

He reached over, cupping the right side of Laith's face with gentle hesitation; "Please, just promise me this, and I will help bring back everyone."

When Audric told him that it was a dangerous plan, Laith looked up at the tall man before looking back at the ground. "I know... but... someone has to do it." Laith said with desperation, his eyes meeting with Audric's. His heart was beating in his chest, and his stomach clenched with sheer anxiety over the others answer. This was a cause that he knew was dangerous, and he was stupid if he thought that it wouldn't result in some sort of bloodshed. Laith just didn't want it to come to that. Laith just wanted freedom and equality, and if it meant fighting tooth and nail for his voice to be heard than so be it. He noticed Audric's abused lip, and he wanted to reach out and make sure he was okay - but this wasn't the time.

The moment of silent seemed like eternity to Laith. He rubbed his wrist anxiously, his eyes never leaving Audric's. When he finally spoke, Laith straightened his posture, his anxiety draining from his face. Laith nodded his head, but was quickly halted when Audric cupped his cheek. Laith could feel a soft blush kiss his cheeks. His eyes looked over at the hand, before they looked back up at Audric, a smile crossing his lips. "I promise. I don't have any intention of hurting them. I just want our voices to be heard, and I want people to go home." Laith placed his own hand over Audric's, and looked him in the eyes again before he broke away.

"Despite our first meeting, I don't pick fights with everyone. Sometimes I'm just very vocal, with some non-violent action." Laith said, his smile only growing into something more playful, before it dropped. He looked down the pathway, as if he was in deep thought. It meant a lot that Audric joined his crusade, although he had just met him. His heart felt warm and fuzzy at the amount of gratitude he felt towards the man. He looked back at Audric, his hands rubbing the back of his neck. "Thank you, Matthew." Laith said sincerely, "I mean it... This is a cause that means everything to me, and I know this is such a new world for you... yet, here you are fighting along side... well... me. I couldn't have asked for a better partner in crime." Laith ran his hands across Audric's shoulder, their eyes meeting for one final time before Laith started to walk onward.

"Now that all out of the air, we should probably start moving on. I think there's a nice place to camp somewhere. My dad use to say there was this nice hill with the best view... and he's a pretty wise guy." Laith rubbed the back of his neck as he talked, a small happy smile on his lips. He had a partner in this, and it felt nice. Audric was nice company too, and Laith really felt like he could trust the other. Laith liked to think he was a pretty great judge of character, and Audric was alright in his book. Laith had faith in the rebellion. He knew that if they stuck to their guns, then everything might be okay... and if it didn't, Laith wasn't going to let anyone else take the fall for him.

Audric must be honest, he's a bit fearful that Laith would not be able to make such a promise. It is not that he doubts his character, nor think so lowly of his partner in crime. There was just that fearful doubt that lingered so persistently, because there was a chance. A chance that the other will deny such a promise, or say that such a promise he will not be able to keep. He wants to trust the redhead, truly he does, however, the ex - prince still waits with halted breath on what his companion's answer would be. He watched with some intrigue as a soft hue painted the ginger's cheeks, causing the freckles that kissed the apple of his cheeks to stand out. More red. It was as if Laith was every different red, complimenting each other on his body. Audric found himself caressing the blush with his thumb already pressed gingerly against his companion's face. Tracing the color with curious interest.

Blinking at the smile, he felt his body sag with relief. Unknown to him that it was taut to begin with. The ex - prince felt elated hearing Laith promise. As well as silly for even having the slightest of doubts towards his partner in crime. Granted, they only know of each other all of one day. Yet, Audric feels he can trust the redhead's plan. Knowing that it was from a good place, and that his father was safe from harm. A small smile mirrored the other's on his own lips, feeling comfort in Laith's hand being place over his own. Once more, feeling that contrast against his skin. The warmth of their joined hands. For a moment, he wonders if he's overstepping with how much he seems to invade the ginger's space.

"I never assumed such things," he questioned, puzzled. "My apologies if it seemed that way." Audric did not believe Laith got into fights all the time. Well, he did assume it was a normal occurance. But not by much! Laith seemed more willing towards peace than violence, now that the redhead has confirmed that mere moments ago. "Though, I'm relieved you don't. I'm not adequate at taking care of injuries of any sort." At most, he could clean the other up. But to take care of anything else sustain by fights, he has no knowledge on how to properly care for them.

Feeling that it was beginning to become improper, he removed his hand. The flesh of his hand feeling cold as he retract it from Laith's warmth. It was only polite, really. Keeping his hand any longer against the redhead's cheek is not proper. (Even if that warmth felt nice.) Audric looked away, his heart dancing against his chest, face warming at the compliments geared towards him. "I-," he cleared his throat. "You're very much welcome, and..um..thank you?" How is Laith's sincerity causing his heart to move about so erratically? He rest his hands against his own cheeks, feeling how the temperature of the skin was much higher than before in spite of the cool breeze surrounding them; how does such praises put him in such a flustered state? He only hopes the last lights of the sun hid any color that rose to the surface.

Feeling those same hands he held so many times throughout the day run across his shoulders did nothing to help elevate his flustered state. Only seeming to worsen it as Audric snapped his gaze back at his companion. Their eyes meeting for that moment. For that said moment, it felt as if the forest fell into a hush. Letting this moment come as he stared for a second into Laith's eyes. (What color were they? He never noticed how bright the other's eyes were, and yet he can't pinpoint the color.) The moment passed as quickly as it arrived, the ginger breaking eye contact to continue their journey.

Audric stood there for one, two seconds. Trying to gather himself and still his beating heart. Taking a third second to breathe, he followed Laith. Quickening his pace a moment so they can walk leisurely side by side. He's never been so flustered around someone, then again, he's never met someone quite like Laith. Perhaps that's why his heart seems to want to escape whenever they're close in proximity.

The sunlight was quickly leaving them, the last bit of orange making way for dark shades of blues and purples. Night only a second away from embracing them. "A hill?" He looked over at ththe redhead, excitedly asking; "Will we be able to see the stars if we camp there?"

The ex - prince had a book on the stars, on how different groups made different images with their own unique story to them. He was only able to maybe see one from his chamber window, if one of the servants were late to checking up on him to make sure he was were he belonged. He always wanted to see the other stories the sky held, and it felt tortuous constantly seeing one part of the sky and not being able to explore its vastness.

Laith turned his head to see Audric quickly catching up to him. He couldn't help but smile at the taller male, and shake his head. They other reminded him of a bird - he was just so curious and cute. He was like a caged bird that was finally migrating south for winter, and experiencing snow for the first time. The air was starting to get a little cold, so Laith drew his cape closer together as they walked on. The excitement in his partners voice brought a smile on his lips, "The stars here are beautiful." Laith said as he looked up at Audric. "You should have seen the stars at the farm. I use to just lay down in the grass, and lay there for hours." Laith threw his arms out like he was imitating himself. "You could see everything on the farm. Meteor showers were amazing there. One time Leanna and I just laid there and watched the stars shoot across the sky in complete and utter silence until the sun started to come up." A small laugh escaped his lips, his hands running through his red hair. "I mean when the sun was up, we had to be - so it was a bad move on our part. We had to work on the farm after that. We were so tired, I could barely keep my eyes open. I ended up catching Leanna asleep in a pile of hay, and needless to say I was out shortly after finding her."

The memory was near and dear to Laith's heart. Most memories with his sister were now. It was funny how someone could have something practically their entire life, and the second it was taken out it made the smallest thing dear. "Sorry," Laith apologized, rubbing the back of his neck with a nervous smile. "I doubt you want to hear about Leanna." Laith said, feeling a little bad that he's been talking for so long.

Laith started to see the incline of land, and his eyes lit up. "That must be the spot." Laith said quickly, his hand lightly smacking Audric's arm before he bolted off towards the hill. "Come on!" Laith called out as he ran up the hill, his speed slightly declining at the incline of the hill. Halfway up the hill, Laith started to walk with labored breath. A weak laugh escaped his lips, clearly having way too much fun running up this hill. The hill was steep and despite the thick forest, there were no trees that grew on this patch of land - which Laith thought was odd, but he didn't dwell on it. Instead wild flowers grew in to replace the trees, causing it to pop with vibrant life.

When Laith finally reached the top of the hill, he threw his bow and quiver aside and practically fell down into a bed of flowers. Petals seemed to fly off on the impact, and dance in the soft breeze that blew. Night was just about to fall on them, the first few stars already in sight. "Look at that view," Laith said as he stretched out his arms. He looked over at Audric, a wild smile on his face and his cheeks flushed from his semi-sprint up the hill. "Tell me my little bird," Laith said he he flipped to his side to face Audric. "Did you ever see a view like this from your cage?"

Audric looked around the forest as they walked, glancing at the different shapes of trees he was still able to see before the sun sets for the night. The greenery lusher than any of the plants back at the castle. Being able to reach far into the sky without any restraints to hold them back. Having the freedom to bloom as they please. Though, after the initial talk, Audric had some fear for the unknown future ahead of them.

It could take weeks, possible months for the revolution to fully take it's course towards the final battle. Depending on how quickly they get to finding people for Laith's cause, the locations of the camps, and a solid plan of entering the well guarded kingdom to get to the king. All while avoiding as much bloodshed as they can. There's still so many possibilities of what could or can go wrong. Each being worse than the last and the ex - prince can't help the doubt he feels. Yes, he agreed to help the other, to officially be his partner in crime in saving the non-humans. But he can't help but wonder what could happen, what he'll lose. Though, that future seems so far away from now. He took a deep breath, this is something to worry of once the plan begins to pick up speed in the upcoming future.

Audric looked over at Laith; the farm sounded beautiful, lovely, even. Despite it being a place of hard labor, his companion spoke of it with such content affection. It makes him wish he could see it himself, to have a picture to the many stories the ginger waxes gorgeously. He smiled. "I hope that I can see that farm one day. It sounds like a lovely place." Audric nearly wonders why the other left, until he reminds himself that it was probably filled with bittersweet memories. Ones of his sister that was taken away by royal quards, torn from her home like an unwanted pest.

"No," Audric quickly reassured. "I do not mind when you speak of her. It. . . Well, I assume it helps you not forget the good moments you've had with her. It gives you some comfort reminiscing about her." It made Audric take a moment to think; does he have any fond memories with his own father? He thought for a moment, searching for any time in the past where his father and himself smiled together. If there was any bit of history filled with loving warmth.

Feeling a smack on his arm pulled the ex - prince from his deep pondering, squeaking at the sudden sting he felt before looking ahead to see that they, infact, arrived at the fabled hill Laith spoke of. It's, quite a ways up. Will they be camping at it's base or? The redhead abruptly sprinted ahead of him, focused on going to the top of the hill with speed.

"Ah!" Surprised, Audric ran after his partner in crime. Feeling his body ache from the exertion it's been through this whole day. It's shameful that running takes so much effort from himself. But in his defense, he has been running on and off throughout the last three days. (As in he ran his first night of freedom and twice now with Laith.) Halfway up the hill, Audric can feel his chest burn with every pant, feeling that he'll fall on the spot if they don't slow down soon. Thankfully, the redhead slowed to walk, and he was happy to follow. Coughing every couple of breaths, trying to regulate his inhales and exhales to an appropriate pace.

"I despise running ," Audric struggled to say between each ragged pant. Walking up the hill. Why was it so enormous in height? He suspected the hill to have some height to be able to see the stars, but not to this extent. The ex - prince does not know how long it took them to get to the top, he would assume hours. (Though in reality it must of taken ten minutes or so.) His eyes was squeezed shut as he wiped at the sweat that formed in beads on his skin, feeling muggy and hot from the unplanned spring. He wishes there was a bath, he can near feel the dirt begin to cling to his body with vigor.

Opening his eyes, he sees Laith flopped onto the ground surrounded by bright flowers. A few petals flowing down towards the patch with graceful ease from the intrusion. A udric blinked, turning around to see where Laith was gesturing. Gasping at the many stars that begun to peak through. Nearly stumbling back until he sat next to the ginger, stretching his neck to look upwards to greedily take in the sight of the bright dots. It was nothing compared to the same stars he saw in his chamber every night for so many years.

"More so." Audric sighed. Eyes wide with wonder as he looked around before gasping, pointing towards a group of stars he remembers reading about. "There's Draco!" He gestured to another group of stars, naming each one he recalls with more and more excitement. His finger following each constellation he named off at rapid speed.

"Crux, Lepus, Uras major and minor. And Hydrus!" He took a breath, lowering his voice; "They're all here, right before my eyes."

It may seem sad, however, despite his yearning for escape before he fulfilled such a plan, Audric never thought he could or would leave. That he would only imagine what the world was like, what the stars were like at their brightest in his most vivid dreams. Never once did he think he would see the sky in its vastness. The ex - prince turned to look at Laith, the wind tossing his hair about as he smiled brightly at his companion, the smile stretch across wide enough to reavl a single dimple and face flushed from some of the cold as well as the previous running they've done.

"It's beautiful here, Laith."

Laith laid back on his back, his arms behind his head to support it. He looked at the sky, the arouma of flowers filling his nostrils. He felt at peace here, almost like he could stay right where was was forever. He took a deep breath, letting the floral smell take over his senses. When Audric started to name the stars, Laith couldn't help but to sit up and follow where his finger pointed - to the best of his abilities anyways. Audric seemed to know a lot about the constellations, and he honestly thought it was really amazing. Laith only knew one, but he didn't even know the name - it was just three stars that made a straight line. Was it Oh Lion? Ryan? Laith didn't know.

Laith looked over at Audric, his companions smile warming his heart. He couldn't help but to stare at the lone dimple and think about how cute it was. Dimples were a weakness for Laith, and he just couldn't help it. Audric's flushed face did worry Laith though... shit... did he even bring a blanket? Maybe he could start a fire or something... but that was dangerous with all these flowers around. The comment about the view brought Laith out of his thoughts. A smirk crossed his lips, as he brought his knees to his chest and held them close. "It really is... This honestly has the farm beat." Laith looked back at the sky, placing his head onto his knees.

"How did you even learn about all of those constellations?" Laith asked, his eyes fixated on the vast sky above them. He brought his finger to the only constellation he only kind of knew, "I only know that one... though not by name. My dad said that a giant threw their belt into the sky to hold the universe together, but he also has a habit of coming up with amazing stories off the top of his head - so I don't know if that's true or not."

Laith and his family didn't know how to read or write, but that never got in the way of Laith's father Azriel to create detailed and creative stories. Azriel use to come up with stories off the top of his head and tell them to Laith and Leanna. He could get inspiration from the smallest spec of dust or even a little note in someones laughter. Laith was never that creative, but he did enjoy hearing everything his father would create. Laith always thought it was a shame that Azriel couldn't write all of his ideas down, and show his creative mind to the world.

"I... don't want to know the actual legend, but what is it actually called?" Laith asked, his fingers brushing some of his red hair out of his eyes before he looked at Audric. He wanted to keep his fathers story - it was like keeping a piece of Azriel during his journey. Though he was genuinely curious to know the actual name, and Audric seemed to be just the person to ask. Besides, he thought it was cute when Audric got excited.

The smell of flora, the cool breeze nipping at his skin, and the bright stars artfully placed in the dark colors of the night sky. This is something, a night, that Audric does not believe he'll forget. The night was drastically different from the first, the very night he ran through the darkness filled to the brim with adrenaline. The tops of trees hovering over him, leaves rustling with the wind as they encouraged him to run faster. To run further. That night, compared to the night the ex prince was enveloped in now, is meaningless. Yet, Audric didn't know why.

Was it the stars he always wanted to see? The flowers they lay on, surrounding them in a floral aroma? He glanced back up towards the stars for a moment, watching the final rays of light disappear completely before his very eyes. Or perhaps, he looked back over at Laith with his head tilted curiously, it was different simply because he had someone to share this moment with? That this is the first night where he is not alone?

"I read a book about them." He answered. "Back home, I had a li- . . um. .had many books about a variety of subjects. And I read most of them." The library was one of the places Audric frequented the most. The many things he learned from those novels being the closet thing to seeing the world at the time. As well as hiding away in the many fairy tails some of the books held, ignoring the cage around him. Yet, none where up to date. None telling him of the now, only of the then. He thought he could rely on his father as a source of information.

That did not do any good, if the events that followed up to where Audric is now.

He looked to where his companion pointed, only having to look at the cluster of stars for a second before knowing what the constellation is; Orion. The story that the ginger had for the constellation wasn't one the ex-prince has heard of himself. Maybe the tales of the stars are different here? Though, Laith did admit that he was unsure if that story was true to the star cluster or not.

Audric wanted to tell him, but held in the story at his companion's request. Why did his partner in crime not want to know the true story? Surely he's curious? But, such a thought vanished quite quickly; he eyes trained on the way the other combed his fingers through his hair. As if manipulating a flame. He blinked, heart floundering about against the confines of his chest.

"It's name is Orion," he answered with an airy breath. Feeling his flushed face increase in heat despite his best efforts. It should be shameful, how easily he's becoming flustered over the smallest things his companion does. And why is it over his companion's actions? Why does his actions cause Audric's heart to palpitate?

"Your hair reminds me of fire," the ex-prince found himself blurting out. However, he's not sure if this is what partners in crime do? He's only stating a fact, he reasons with himself. "It seems to glow and move just like a flame, it reminds me a lot of candle. Orange and filled with warmth."

"Orion..." Laith said with wonder, his eyes glimmering with wonder as he looked at the night sky. Orion the Universe Giant. He couldn't wait to tell his family the name of the constellation when he got home... or... if. The thought that he might not return home made his stomach drop, but he tried to push the thought aside. He was going to make it home... everyone was. Laith was going to smell the farm air, and gaze up at the stars once again with his sister. Though there was that looming thought that he would have to give his life for that to happen, and as much as he wanted to go back home too, that was a sacrifice he was willing to make. Laith was ready to hang for his beliefs, and sell his soul to the Devil itself if it meant that everything would go back to normal.

Normal... that raised another worry to Laith. What if the King decided to take force. What if they landed back at square one. Laith promised Audric that no harm would come to the royal family, but what if harm came to everyone else? Laith didn't care what happened to him - he was going to be the one starting all of this. But if something happened to everyone who was enslaved or those who would help him, Laith didn't know what to do. Laith was getting ahead of himself. He was worrying about things that weren't even in place.

The compliment about his hair quickly pushed his anxieties aside. He looked over at Audric at the comment about his hair. A deep blush kissed his cheeks. He wasn't expecting his companion to say that. He turned his body to face Audric, his head laying on his upper arm with a smile. "Thank you, Matthew... That's really sweet. Truth be told, I hate my hair color. It's so... flashy." Laith ruffled his hair when he mentioned how flashy he thought it was, and dropped his hand. "I honestly like your hair more..." Laith reached out and ran his fingers through Audric's hair. "I've always wanted black hair, and yours is so soft." He ran his fingers down his cheek before he pulled his hand away. "Your skin is super soft too..."

Laith looked at Audric, his eye tracing his features. He really wasn't bad to look at. Laith wanted to tell him, but he was scared that he probably made him uncomfortable with the contact. Laith sat up, and untied his cloak from around his neck. "Are you cold at all? I'm use to cold nights like these, so you could use my cloak if you want." Laith said, as he held out his cloak for Audric. "I honestly really like the cold, so it really isn't a big deal."

Embarrassment took its arms and wrapped around Audric's chest. Suffocating him with the emotion coupled with fluster. This is too particularly new to him; was compliments considered too intimate? Too inappropriate in the common world? Then again, he does not recall any of the councilmen that came to the castle for a visit making any comment on his looks. If they had, the ex-prince is sure that he would not really feel comfortable with the compliments.

He hopes he did not put Laith in such an uncomfortable situation. He's merely telling the truth. And, truth be told, the other reminds of the sun. Or even the final kisses of light clashed with reds and oranges. Skin speckled with dots as if having his own stars. Audric's blushed deepened at his thoughts; that sounds even less appropriate. Yet, he knows it's filled with honesty. But why? It has to be because he's never once seen someone like Laith, met anyone like Laith.

He blinked at the twin blush caressing his companion's skin. That must be proof to how uncalled for his comment was. Audric felt shameful as he looked away, his fingers moving between the grass blades. Tugging and twisting them with less of a gentle touch as he tries to come up with a proper apology for his behaviour. He does not wish to make the other uncomfortable, he is the only partner in crime he has. As well as his first partner in crime. However, he cannot help but to blurt out such comparisons of Laith's features to that of fire. The similarities are there, to the ex-prince that is.

He glanced back at the ginger, surprised at being thanked; perhaps, it's not inappropriate between companions? Relief relaxed Audric's once rigged body, halting his assault on the grass clasped between his hands.

"Flashy?" It did not sound like a bad compliment, though, the way Lath said it says otherwise. "I do not believe it's flashy."

The compliment directed back at him made him uncomfortable in his own skin. Warming to the point that Audric felt too heated, that his body felt too close to melting. "I-," he croaked, watching with baited breath as the ginger reached out towards him, running his fingers through the strands of his hair. The ex - prince closed his eyes for a moment at the feeling before opening them once more, gazing at Laith with awe and flustered curiosity.

He never thought much of his black hair, neither hating nor liking the color. To him, it has always just been his hair. Though, he wonders if it was actually something praise worthy? It felt so, with how Laith spoke of it. Audric gasped softly when the other's fingertips touched his skin delicately. The contact feeling different than the previous ones. Too. . Intimate? Different? So evidently contrasting?

He returned the gaze, puzzled as to what his partner in crime was doing. If this is what friends do. Yet, so the moment came, it left once more as Laith removed his hand. Audric could not help but to touch the place the other's hand once was. The skin there feeling cold once the touch was gone. Blinking in bewilderment. This, feeling is new. The ex-prince jumped at the cloak gestured towards him, snapping out of the pleasant feeling that quickly surrounded him. Oh, he does not even feel the cold at this point. (And once again. He's reminded at how kind his companion is.)

Audric rested his hand on Laith's that held the cloak. "I could not do such a thing. I do not wish for you to fall ill, even if you do not mind the cold." He thought for a second. "We could share our cloaks together? That way neither of us has to freeze?"

Laith felt a little guilty when he saw Audric jump, so he pulled back his hand just a little. "Oh, sorry!" He apologized for making his partner jump, a small sheepish smile on his lips. When Audric rested his hand on his, Laith looked down before his eyes met the others. He couldn't help but smile when Audric said he didn't want him to get sick. It was really a sweet. "It's fi..." He was just about to tell Audric that he really didn't mind the cold, and that he didn't really get sick often, but he stopped in his tracks when he proposed that they share their two cloaks. Laith could feel his cheeks get red, and he looked away clearly flustered.

Soldiers did these kinds of things to stay alive, so maybe this wasn't any different? This was just friendly cloak sharing. Audric didn't know that Laith was gay, and... it was so hard to read Audric, so Laith couldn't really gouge that. Laith was thinking too much about it. Strategically, it was the smart thing to do. Nights were starting to get colder, so maybe they would have to do this eventually? It was just so hard, because Audric was so cute and definitely Laith's type. This was just friendly cloak sharing - nothing more, and nothing less.

Despite the swarm of thought running through Laith's head, he managed to made the blush on his cheeks go away. He shrugged, trying to play it off like he wasn't just having a mental battle with himself. "Yeah, sure. It's... getting colder anyways." Laith said, as he scooted close to Audric - making sure not to touch their bodies. As he was laying down, he draped his cloak over their bodies. It was already much warmer with the shared body heat underneath. Laith turned his body, his back facing Audric. It would be too weird if he faced him.

"Well... Good night. We have quite a lot of walking tomorrow. With any luck, we can find a horse or something." Laith should have gotten a horse from home, but he didn't want to leave his parents without just one. Horses always came in handy on the farm, and with only two taking one could have meant trouble. Laith wished he could read or write so he could have at least wrote his family a letter, but they knew him well enough that they probably figured he was doing something reckless. It wouldn't be the first time, and it wouldn't be the last.

Audric felt regretful, having Laith apologize for startling him. Honestly, it was his own fault. He was too deep within his thoughts to even know the other was speaking to him. The ex - prince titled his head to the side when the ginger paused, feeling puzzled when his companion looked away.

Did he truly not wish to share a cloak? It was quite frigid where they were, no trees nearby to help alleviate the freezing winds consistently dancing around them. Audric was sure the cold would eventually get to the other, especially considering the warm days are becoming fewer and fewer as the colder seasons arrive just around the corner. Sickness being inevitable during this adjustment period.

Or was he suggesting something Laith did not know how to politely deny? They could always use their own designated cloaks to warm themselves. However, the ginger is kind enough to give his own to the ex-prince, even when the air is merciless. Despite the confusion, his companion agreed to his proposal easily. Moving closer towards Audric, little room between their bodies. Only a sliver of a barrier between their proximity. His heart plummeted before soaring up in his throat.

"Okay." Audric took off his own cloak, folding the fabric long ways to use as a makeshift pillow. It saddened him that they would have to flatten the flowers for comfort, however, there isn't a nearby place for the night. So, the hill has to do until they reach the next town. The fabric surrounding him was not the same high quality as his own cloak, yet still as soft. Trapping their body heat effortlessly, shielding them from the cold. Laying down, resting his head gently against the makeshift pillow, the ex - prince turned on his side. Gazing at Laith's back.

He wonders what face the other was making, what his partner in crime's plan was for overthrowing The Individual Act. The initial fear returning, persistent in staying this time; anything can happen once they reach the castle with a crowd of people that thought the same as the ginger. That is, if infiltrating the camps go smoothly. To be frank, Audric had many doubts. The guards might've been instructed to kill any who step on the premises that were not themselves nor the none humans. What if they lost comrades on the way? What if Laith was lost?

From what he knows of the other after one day, quralls is something very common with him. Which does little to help his overall overwhelming concern for this whole plan of action. Yes, he agrees that this is unjust, but what can he himself do to help make sure all goes we? If anything, he's as quilty as his father.

Audric paused; once they reach the first camp, there's no doubt that the guards - or at least one of them - will recognize who he was. Then what will Laith think? The other has been so kind to him, and while his companion did not have a low opinion of the royal family. He also did not have a high one. He shook his head; no. No he should not think of that yet. That's far from now. He'll deal with that problem once it's near.

The ex-prince reached his hand out towards Laith's, stopping short. He didn't know why he reached towards the ginger. Why he wants to touch his companion, to see his face. For comfort, perhaps? His hand hovered for a second, two seconds, before he retracted it back. Tucking it against his chest as the other spoke.

"Good night, Laith." He whispered, slowly closing his eyes as he settled onto the ground beneath him. Dreading having to move more tomorrow now that he laid down. He hoped they would find a horse, he already felt exhausted from the constant movement he's done the past two days.

Before long, sleep heavily engulfed him.

Laith's face was kind of cold, so maybe facing the other wouldn't be weird? No, it was still definitely weird. Laith dug his face under the cloak, but then he found that it was just too hot. There was just no winning in this situation. He sighed, resting his head on his upper arm. He couldn't help but wonder what Audric was thinking right now. Was he thinking about the stars? Was he having second thoughts on joining Laith on his quest? Was he thinking about food? There was that small part of Laith that wanted to ask, but that would come off even weirder than his awkward face touching. God, Laith was a mess.

When Audric whispered good night, he could almost feel the others breath kiss his neck and sen chills down his spine. He was glad that he was facing away from the other, otherwise it would be as clear as a summer day that he was blushing. "Good night, Matthew." Laith said, as he buried his head into his arm. He closed his eyes, trying to do anything to get his brain to quiet down. There was so much that happened today, and there was still so much to do. Laith had no idea how he was going to do anything he sought out accomplish. Where were the camps? How could he find them? What if he failed? Anxiety started to set in, and he could feel the world spinning. This was so dangerous. He could die. He was going to have to hurt people. He took a few deep breaths, trying to focus on the silence of the night. Now was not the time to worry. There was always tomorrow.

After a while of just laying there with eyes closed and thoughts swarming through his head, Laith finally fell asleep and was carried off into his dreams. He was standing on the gallows, a crowd screaming at his feet. TRAITOR! KILL HIM NOW! A HANGING IS TOO GOOD FOR TRASH LIKE HIM! He could feel his legs shake as he walked, his eyes scanning the crowd as the executioner stopped him in front of a noose. Laith could feel his eyes looking at the rope, his throat suddenly very dry. "You're friends are all dead," said one of the voices in the crowd. "You killed them. You lead them to their very deaths. You failed everyone." Laith closed his eyes, guilt eating at his chest.

"He doesn't even deserve any last words," said a familiar voice. Laith turned to look at the executioner, but instead saw Audric staring down at him. "I died for your cause. I didn't even know you, and I died for you." Audric said as his soft hands brushed against his skin, while he placed the noose around his neck. Laith tried to speak and apologize and beg for his forgiveness, but no words escaped his desperate lips. Audric just smiled at this as he shook his head, "didn't I say you didn't deserve any last words?" Laith heard a click, and his body was suddenly falling. Right before the rope had a chance to break his neck, Laith sprung up very much alive and laying next to a Audric.

Laith grabbed his neck, his body trembling. He was alive. Oh god, he was alive. Laith ran his hands through his sweaty hair with trembling fingers. He looked over at Audric, before he burst into tears. He brought his knees to his chest, and sobbed into his cloak. The dream felt so real. He really thought that he... Laith grabbed his neck, the feeling of the rope still lingering on his skin. Maybe it was a bad idea dragging Audric with him. What if he got hurt, or even died for him?

Laith wiped his tears, though they still fell off of his cheeks like a stream. He looked at the sky, the sun painting it hues of pink and orange. It was about the time he would be getting all of the animals fed at the farm. Laith took a deep breath as he tried to calm himself down. He didn't want to wake Audric. He didn't want the other to see him cry. Laith hated crying in front of other people, and he didn't want to worry his partner. Laith closed his eyes, before he rubbed his face. This trip was already making him anxious. Maybe this was a bad idea. No. He would hate himself forevr if he stopped now. People needed help. They needed someone to break them free, and no nightmare was going to deter him from this.

Audric was sinking, embraced by water as he sunk deeper and deeper. Not moving to ascend, nor helping his descent. He could not see where he was, nor what was around him that was not the water itself. The cold water pulled him further down into its depths. Then, a sound. Though not one he can decipher easily, muffled to his own ears. The noise itself was melodic, seeming to be comforting as it echoed around him.

The sound rising and falling in certain parts, resembling that of a song. Perhaps even a lullaby for child to help calm them down.

He remembers the sound; Audric's not sure from where such a sound was familiar to him, however, he must've heard it once before in his life. From what, he does not know, neither when. The noise began to consistently increase in volume. Becoming louder, more distorted in tone. Piercing his ears as the melody exploded in a warped roar. Audric tried to move, to cover his ears, to swim away from the disquiet all around him. Fear clinging to him as he sunk faster with each movement.

He can't move, if he does he moves faster. Though, even if he doesn't, he'll still sink faster. Such evident facts did not stop the fear that controlled him, causing him to move with more vigor. The need to escape moving his limbs.

Being pulled down at an alarming rate, he could not move away from the sound, he can't escape. He took in a breath, the water filling his lungs as he clawed through the liquid, reaching towards a surface he can't see. The water suffocating him, filling his lungs as the twisted tune taunted him from the dark.

Audric gasped silently, eyes snapping open to see white light, squinting at the intensity of it. He took a second, before he opened them fully once more. Vision adjusting to the light; flowers swaying in his sight, the warmth of the day heating his skin, birds chirping as the sun rises once more to begin another present.

That's right, he's no longer in the castle. Audric escaped and found a companion. He clung to his chest, which felt heavy with every breath he took. What was that dream? Or, nightmare. He, to some degree, recalls that song. Yet he does not know from what; it could have been from a symphony, however, the ex-prince has not heard many in his life. Audric reach out towards the empty spot next to him, twirling some flowers between his index and thumb. He blinked; where was Laith? Turning onto his back, he sees that the ginger is already awake. Curling into himself, facing away from him once more.

Yawning, he sat up, rubbing at his eyes. Pushing the ominously disturbing dream to the back of his mind. It must not have meant nothing. It was just a dream. His hair stood up at odd angles, a few petals resting on his head. He rubbed at his eyes, trying to clean the sleep from them.

"G'morning," the ex-prince greeted in a slurred tone. Voice low with sleep. Despite it being daytime, it felt early. Warm colors swirling in the sky in a colorful dance. He wondered what time it was. 6am? Perhaps 7am? He looked over at Laith, not really able to see his face as he blinked slowly, trying to adjust to the day's light.

Reaching over, he rest his hand on the ginger's shoulder, fighting back another yawn. "Are you alright? Did you not rest well?" The ground was not the coziest, his body felt sore from having to rest on it. So he does not doubt that sleep was difficult to achieve for his partner in crime.

When Laith heard the slurred good morning, he jumped slightly. He wiped the tears off of his face quickly, not able to really face the other quite yet. "Oh. Good morning." He said quickly, this feeling of shame and embarrassment washing over him. Dreams never affected him like this, yet here he was shaken like a small child. He felt the others hand touch his shoulder, which made him relax just a little. Audric was so gentle... so unlike the dream. It was bringing him back to reality. That was the thing though; Audric was gentle. Could he really survive this? If Audric died, his blood would be on Laith's hands.

"I just... had a weird dream. It had... like singing flowers and flying pigs." Laith lied, his eyes looking down at the grass and flowers under his body. "It was weird was all." Laith looked over at Audric, a smile crossing his lips when he saw his partner in crime. He laughed lightly, as he reached out to fix Audric's hair. "It's such a mess." Laith looked down at Audric, his eyes meeting with his for just a second. "It looks like Mother Nature made you a flower crown." Laith pulled a petal out of Audric's hair, and let it gently dance off his fingertips.

"How did you sleep?" Laith asked as he pulled his hands away. He reached over to grab his satchel, and pulled out some bread. He split it in two, before he offered some to Audric. It wasn't much, but it was enough to hold them over until he could build a fire. Hopefully they could find a nice rabbit to eat later. Laith bit into his half of the bread, giving his full attention to the other. The longer he looked at Audric, the more dread set into his stomach. If something were to happen to Audric, he would never forgive himself. It would be completely understandable if Audric hated him afterwards.

Laith wanted to ask Audric if he was sure about joining his cause, but he just didn't know how to start that conversation. Maybe he should wait. It would probably be best if he asked when they got to Springrest, that way things didn't get too awkward if Audric decided to leave. That way they could go on their separate ways, and go do their own things should Audric decide that he didn't want to join his cause.

"We should get going..." Laith said, as he ran his fingers through his hair. He grabbed his cloak and tied it around his neck, before he got up. He looked off of the hill, his mind a million miles away.
