Name: Yukie

Age:20 but small for his age making him mistaken for a lot younger also quite feminine and beautiful.

Hair: raven black

Eyes: dark green

The water was cold and...in a way different the mermaid unknown to himself was in a sort of transportation tank. He was unsure how the fisherman had captured him with such weak nets. But, he knew he wasn’t in his home anymore with a sigh the merman swam around in circles wishing he could see where he was going and where he had ended up. After what seemed like hours he felt the truck suddenly stop and next thing he knew he was suddenly inside a huge building with lots of equipment surrounding him. “Where am I?”.

The mermaid voice was muffled by the thick tank walls, but it didn’t top him from searching to see if he could get the top lid off. To be honest he was scared to death and was desperate to get away from all the humans peering eyes that where slowly driving him to panic.

Adrian shooed away the crowds that were surrounding the transportation tank treating the merman as if he were the catch of the day at a harbor market.

He didn't need his new specimen to be stressed out unnecessarily and he quickly had him moved into a quieter part of the aquarium in the back which was off limits to visitors.

Adrian worked as one of the marine biologist for research, so it gave him a lot of sway. Though he was still fairly new, only having started here after graduating about six months ago.

He had always loved the ocean ever since he went there on holiday as a child. It started off as collecting sea shells, but soon it was exploring the tide pools and the creatures inside. He would always carry a pail full of sea stars and small rock fish back to his parent's spot on the sand. Though they always made sure he put the creatures back where he found them.

Though the words of leaving nature to be free from his mother were lost on him now as he carefully lowered the tank and pried off the lid so that the merman slipped right into his new home.

If anything it were just like a giant fish tank. It even had similar accessories like the decorative pebbles on the floor and fake vegetation and rocks. Best of all perhaps was the underwater cave that was designed to be a proper hiding and sleeping spot for the merman to retreat to whenever he got stressed.

Which no doubt would be now since he had just taken him away from everything he ever knew, but in Adrian's mind it was okay to displace nature as long as it was for the greater good of scientific discovery.

He had never seen a merman of this type up close before and he was already eager to start studying him, but he gave Yukie a few days with no contact other than bringing him food and making sure everything else was okay.

But once some time had passed it was time to start researching.

The male appeared one day not dressed in his usually laboratory uniform, but instead a dry suit and a specialized underwater oxygen mask.

He sat at the edge of the tank and then dived right into the water.

The last few days had been less stressful for yukie who had stayed hidden in his cave for the most part. He had ignored the food the feeders brought until the place had grown dark and he knew everyone was gone for the day. At that time he explored his new home finding the colored pebbles pretty and smooth to touch making the creature prone to rolling around on them. There’s was something wonderful about how the smooth rocks felt rubbing against his skin and scales. In turn this had caused him to gather them up and put them in his dark cave, deep inside he had made a beautiful little nest to sleep in when he was tiered.

Today though he had heard someone coming into his tank and with a yawn he streatched out his spikes seeming to glow in the dark as it lit up his cave. Yukie swam around moving his rocks around before setting down inside his nest easily camouflaging against his intruder who was invading his tank and home. Yukies species was rather rare, well more like almost extinct the creatures having only had offspring every fifty years. His kind had also been more threatened due to lack of food and habitat meaning most that survived where quite thin and good at hiding. Yukie huffed a little his spikes and beautiful fins puffing up a moment before settling down and becoming very flat almost smooth.

With afew more adjustments he was quite well camouflaged and hidden in his home the merman preferring to hide rather then attack since he was unsure of what to expect from the scientist. His species was rather strange to those that had first discovered them and since there was little known about them he knew that humans tended to never leave them alone.

Adrian pulled himself through the water effortlessly, even without all the equipment on he had always loved the water and as soon as he could walk he had learned to swim shortly after.

Though technically he really didn't need to be in the tank to be able to observe the creature, there was plenty of out looking spots. Even a tunnel that went through the middle of the tank so that the other scientist could stand and get a panoramic view of the tank. It really was quite an elaborate set up, and the space was not modest at all. But still, considering that the ocean itself was so vast even the most luxurious of enclosures must feel so cramped.

Peering around the fake, yet somehow very lifelike vegetation, his eyes scanned for any movement. But he didn't see anything except for the swaying artificial sea weed and a few bubbles floating to the surface.

He could have always cheated and found the mermen using the special sensors triggered by motion and several of the video cameras installed to have 24/7 monitoring of the specimens, but somehow doing things the old fashioned way like when he was still just a kid on the beach looking for sea stars was more fun. Back then the only fancy gadgets at his disposal was his own wit plus a plastic pail and spade.

It didn't take long for the man to notice that several of the colorful smooth pebbles that coated the bottom of the tank had been rearranged. Some spots had indents as if something or rather someone had been burrowing in them.

Others had been removed entirely, he'd be sure to make note of these.

Searching along the whole length of the tank took quite a bit of time considering he couldn't move as fast as a merman could. But he didn't have to look everywhere when he had a good feeling where the creature may be hiding.

Invading a merman's space was never a wise thing to do. Yukie was still very new here and despite not seeing aggression on the cameras was entirely different since no one had been there to threaten him. Hell, they didn't even have another of species which wasn't surprising considering how rare they were. And they didn't believe in mixing him together with another type since it would interfere with their research or even be dangerous for Yukie.

On another note it had also been noted that their merman had not eaten a thing since his arrival. While the metabolism of merman was varied, little was known about this particular's species nutritional needs and habits. They knew what Yukie ate, but not much more than that.

Perhaps they only ate sparingly with a slower metabolism. But right now his best weapon was luring the creature out with some food. But that wasn't his literal weapon. He did have one tucked in his belt in case he were attacked.

Yukie stayed quiet on the cave floor watching as the man wandering around his tank seeming to take an interest in the rocks that covered the enclosure. He watched as the man continued to explore the tank and seemed to walk the whole length of it afew times. The male of course found this puzzling and despite his desire to follow him around to see what he was doing he had decided to stay where he was hiding and observe from a safe distance. He watched quietly his body puffing up a little when he got closer to his cave. His cave was much like the one he had lived in back in the ocean the only difference was that it was quite small compared to the giant cave with many different tunnel rooms back in the sea.

And although the mermaid tried to make his new home like his old one he was rather displeased with the lack of other tunnels and rooms to hide and sleep in. This had caused him to make a nest in pain view of the enterance causing him more stress then normal when anything including food entered his domain. With a small flick of his tail he watched the man slowly walk into his sleeping area making him automatically puff up and light up in the dark cave illuminating the size of his beautiful fins. To any other human it would have just looked like a display for mating, and much like betas the males of his species where exceptionally beautiful and very fancy. Compared to other types of mermaids this made them quite a display when pictures where posted in aquariums of recent sightings.

The male watched the scientist clearly displeased his colorful stones where being stepped on as he puffed his fins up more and glared. His species was non aggressive, a good thing for the explorers but a bad thing for their species as they often kept away from other mermaids and predators. Though they where quite peaceful, it didn’t mean they wouldn’t attack if threatened.

Adrian stood at the mouth of the underwater cave and peered inside, but when he felt a feel stones slipping underneath his feet he stood back, a bit ashamed realizing he had almost just trampled right over the creature's nest.

Though the behavior perplexed him, while both male and female species of marine life were responsible for the home making, it was more often than not the females.

But then again from just one look at how elaborately colored and the display of fins made the scientist lean back towards thinking this was indeed a merman.

However in science you didn't just take guesses, in the end you found evidence and he knew that surely this creature would hate him after they did the procedure to confirm his sex.

Though that would be for a later day, right now he could tell that the merman was still highly stressed and it wasn't uncommon for them to die in captivity from that factor alone.

And while Adrian may have been a selfish human, he was not an irresponsible one.

No, he was set on keeping this merman alive and well. He would be an ambassador for his species and part of a breeding stock to save his kind from extinction.

But again, he was getting ahead of himself. For Yukie to be an ambassador meant the public had to be aware of him and fall in love with him. That would involve training the merman to be able to do tricks comfortable in front of a large audience in the main section of the aquarium that was attached to the lab.

See, most of the funding was not only from the government or private donors, but from ticket sales from visitors coming to see the marine animals or watch the live trick shows.

As for breeding that would either involve collecting from the merman, that was if he were even male, or breeding him directly. Both of which could backfire quickly since often rare types would refuse to mate in captivity. The theory being something about the unnatural environment and lack of direct sun or moonlight disrupted their internal drive. That and the lack of understanding behind mating rituals or habits.

Adrian hoped to change all of that soon though. But even as cocky as the man could be even he knew that it could take years of error before finally finding an answer, and even then it could never work out and Yukie's kind could simply go extinct before his career was even over.

Focusing his attention once more on the beautiful display in front of him, but Adrian knew what looked pretty to a human could have a whole another meaning in the marine world. Often times flashy colors or displays were for two things only, fucking or fighting. And he knew that this merman had no intent on courting him.

"My, you are handsome..."

Adrian smiled to himself, since talking would just be a waste of precious breath.

Instead he carefully backed up a little while slowly pulling out the piece of fish, seeing if Yukie had any interest in eating.

Yukie watched as the human moved away from his nest as he slowly de puffed his body and set to fixing the stones back to had they where in a nice little circle like his own parent had made when he was young. His species was rather strange with their mating situations while they could find a lover and conceive naturally, most of his kind preferred to be alone and had adapted to becoming a sexual. They would raise their young for two years after birth and then their young would leave the nest to fend for themselves and find their own homes. But due to the trash in the ocean and the destruction of their homes the had stopped reproducing due to high stress. And alothough Yukie was asexual with breeding he hadn’t produced any offspring due to the fact his home had been made around a high fishing area.

The boats and constant nets had made for him to be cautious while hunting and leaving his home he had learned their pattern on which boats where out fishing and had chose to hunt when they where gone. He hadn’t expected the new boat to cross into his territory during his hunting time and hence, he had got caught. With a small moment of his hands he continued fixing his next until he was satisfied it was back to its pretty design. With another circle around the cave he settled back down his camouflage slowly disappearing as he studied the scientist. He watched the man move pulling out a piece of fish from a pocket making him all the more curious about the human.

Yukie had never really seen humans before so to find one taking food out of a pouch made him curious enough to swim up and poke at the pocket investigating how it worked and if there was a small army of fish inside. After discovering there was no more fish he took the one that had first been taken out and proceeded to eat it bones and all. While most species where picky about food Yukie wasn’t to picky about what he ate but did prefer certain seaweed and fish to other types that where native to his home. Yukie watched closely swimming around the man as if inspecting and welcoming him into his new home the merman seeming to adapt quite easily to a sudden climate changing. His species was quite good at adapting.

Adrian made sure to hold almost perfectly still when he seen that the creature was daring to venture out of his cave after fixing up his nest all nice again, of course.

He couldn't help but let an amused chuckle escape him when the curious merman prodded at the pouch around his belt that held the fish. It really was a shame he hadn't thought to bring more, but with how little the creature had been eating he just hadn't thought of it.

The man held up his hands open palm to show Yukie that he had no more treats to give as another almost child like laugh left him at the pure sense of joy at being accepted by a creature he had just discovered.

It was for moments like these why he had worked so hard to become a marine biologist. Truly, being part of the ocean and learning about it's creatures to save them was his purpose in life.

Good boy...

Adrian grinned as he watched the merman swim circles around him. He seemed more at ease and now it was easier to see the full extent of him in the open water was a beautiful sight.

It even seemed like Yukie was curious of this new stranger in his tank and that was always a good first step.

The biologist tried to mimic the motions that the merman made as he glided through the water but of course it wasn't so easy for him to accomplish that much.

Instead he tried to offer the other something perhaps better, after rummaging through the bottom of the pebbles he finally found one that was perfectly smooth and a nice shade of blue, offering it to Yukie.

Yukie watched as the man clumsily tried to swim around his tank. He smirked as he watched the human try to follow him. With a small swish of his tail he watched the human dig around he bottom tank as if he was playing in the rocks. He was surprised by the sudden offer of smooth blue rock that was very soft to touch. With a small blush he accepted the small rock inspecting it closely before swimming back to his cave and setting it on a small hole in the rock as if keeping it safe.

With a quick flick of his tail he was quickly back over by the man swimming around him with interest before noticing the room was empty. He swam around the tank proceeding to move things around and rearrange the plants bringing them carefully over to his home and replanting them as if they where real. After a few more minutes he settled back down in his nest watching the cleared opening for any intruders.

Adrian tried to keep up, but Yukie moved just so effortlessly through the water like he were a bird soaring through the sky...

Sometimes it made him a hint jealous, he loved the water so much yet with his own body having evolved for the land he would never, even with the help of technology and various diving suits ever hope to be able to swim as naturally as a marine creature could.

But his envy quickly faded back into pure admiration as he watched the merman swim around his new home and rearrange the furnishings to his liking.

The behavior was just so fascinating, not so much different from a human decorating a new house.

He smiled and wondered if things moved along this fast maybe they would be able to introduce Yukie to a mate sooner than expected.

The only problem was they didn't exactly have a mate avalible, as far as they knew this was the first of this species to be in captivity. The rest were simply too rare and elusive to find.

Capturing Yukie had been a fluke, yet a lucky one nonetheless for the scientist.

"What a good housekeeper your're turning out to be... Are you trying to make it nice for a girlfriend?"

The man chuckled to himself and he wanted to take a closer look yet was a bit nervous about invading the other's territory. It felt like the creature had accepted him, yet he didn't want to risk an attack. Not for his own sake, but Yukie's.

Yukie watched the man from the corner of his eye while he decorated taking a moment to relax and rest. With a flick of his tail he looked around the cave gently touching the walls as if looking for a small opening. With a sigh he continued searching looking for anything he could slip into and hide deeper into his home. He was amused suddenly by the fact the human was talking about finding a mate. this of course caused an angry glare he puffed up and suddenly forced the man out.

He continued to push and force the man out in clear anger before throwing him back on the ground. As angry as he was he puffed up more going into his home with an angry glare throwing the smooth blue rock back to the man. The merman was clearly rejecting the guests mating/companionship proposal. With more puffed up anger he hd his body back in the cave before destroying the nest and home in a fit or rage.

He knew there was a speech barrier with them being underwater, but due to his species living so close to the humans fishing area they had learned how to pick up the human language. As a result after what the man had said he had felt so stupid accepting such a request of companionship from the kind man. In all sense he was angry. Furious even and as a result had decided to reject the home he had been given.

Adrian instinctively reached for his belt when he seen the merman puffing out his spiked fins at him, but he somehow resisted the urge when he realized that the creature would not harm him but was only trying to get him out of his space with a bit of force.

It didn't hurt, but God... he couldn't hardly breathe whenever the creature would barrel against him would briefly cause a jolt that interrupted the oxygen supply as was evident by the sudden burst of bubbles escaping.

Once he was done, the man just hovered there in the far end and tried to calm his own breathing, inhaling and exhaling slowly until he felt his head steady from the spell of faintness. Anyone else would have retreated to the surface, but he wasn't about to let the creature think he could get away with using him as a punching bag whenever he was upset. Even though Adrian accepted it was his fault, it was dangerous to let Yukie think it was ever acceptable to lash out on him over a simple mistake.

He slowly returned to the edge of the merman's disheveled home, however this time he had the holster part of his belt unlocked for quick access if needed.

"I didn't realize you could hear me. I had thought I was only talking to myself..."

Adrian confessed as he stood back, but held his ground. There was still plenty of time to stay down here before he had to surface again to refill the oxygen supply.

"I didn't mean to offend you... I'm Adrian Harper, by the way."

"...Yukie" the merman replied with a huff as he sulked on the floor of the cave still puffed up as if challenging Adrian. "I'd like you to leave" he added his voice clearly upset as he tried to depuff not being able to calm down. He was having a hard time adapting to the stress the man had caused by toying with his offer of companionship. "You humans are all the same..." He added coldly before throwing the rocks out of his cave. Clearing the home out with an angry glare before sulking at the back.

"I want to go home. This place makes me homesick...it's Not even close to where I would live." Yukie whispered the mermans mood suddenly shifting as he noticed the lights come back on and a few humans come in making him go back to hiding in camouflage against the rocks.

"I'm just frankly amazed we are even communicating right now... Talking to a fish is like... every marine biologist's wet dream."

He grinned, giving out a deep chuckle at his own stupid joke. But right after he regretted it and mentally slapped himself.

Now probably wasn't the best time to reveal his weird sense of a humor to someone he had only offended just minutes ago.

Yukie, huh? Not a bad name.

Though he didn't like that the other was already comparing him to other people. He wasn't the same at all... How dare he assume so before even getting to know him more. Stuck up little bastard...

"... I was just about to go anyway. But if you want you could always tell me how we can make this place more comfortable."

Adrian stated before he began to swim back up to the surface and pulling himself up onto the platform to get out of the suit and back into his regular work clothing.

With a frown at the man's words Yukie slowly followed him venturing out into the brighter lights as he gently grabbed Adrians leg. "...our caves have...many different areas in them". Yukie replied his gills moving on his neck making him clearly look uncomfortable out of the water as he dipped back under trying to calm himself under the bright lights. "..." He continued swimming under the lights in frantic circles until he went back in the cave hiding himself away needing to rest. He stayed hidden in his cave slightly wanting to talk but to afraid to go out in the public view with such bright lights.

For the next twenty minutes the merman was swimming around his cave in circles the fish upset with getting so defensive, he knew they where two different species so it was hard for him to understand why the man had left so quickly. With a small sigh he went out looking through the tank until he found the blue stone he was given. He picked it up and carried it back to his den to try and settle down.

Adrian flinched slightly, but when he realized it was only Yukie trying to gain his attention and not pull him down to try and drown him for being such a rude house guest back there.

"Different areas... Got it."

The man nodded, instantly reaching for the notebook that was set on the small table on the observation deck and making a note of that.

Maybe now would be a good time to take a quick break so he could give Yukie some time to calm down properly.

Since his adrenaline had died down once out of the water the reality suddenly hit. Despite being a happy go lucky guy the fact that he had seemingly gone from the creature being so carefree and welcoming to sending him back into a state of distress was the worst thing that could happen.

Adrian knew it was his fault for getting too cocky and thinking it would have that easy to earn the merman's trust that fast...

But the man smiled again, because in offending the creature he had learned a very valuable piece of information... Yukie could communicate with humans!

While this wasn't necessarily ground breaking per say, Mermen were part human after all. Though it was still very rare to find one from the wild that could speak the same language, usually they had be taught and it took several years even to get basic phrases out of them.

Adrian couldn't wait to share this new discovery with his fellow scientist, but then he hesitated for a moment.

What if the only reason he heard the other 'talk' was because his brain had been a bit messed up from the brief lack of oxygen when the creature 'attacked' him?

It would be really embarrassing to run in there screaming like a kid that the fish can talk only to have everyone label him as a confused freak.

Better go test his 'merman can talk to humans'' hypothesis before breaking the news to the world...

So after a little break and a quick bite to eat Adrian had returned to the platform with a tray of fish. Not only had he prepared himself some lunch, but also of course for his very special specimen.

He made sure to add extras as an apology for offending him earlier.

Adrian sat at the edge of the deck and boldly dangled his legs over the edge into the water as he sat there waiting with a faint smile on his face.

Yukie had been sleeping for a few hours while Adrian was gin the poor creature exhausted. He was still stressed about how wrong his enclosure was from his home and this of course was causing him to have some issues since he was finding it hard to relax. He sighed and gently touched his spike fins that had begun to droop. With a swish of his tail he slowly moved out of his cave cringing at the brightness of the lights and with a frown went to look for the fake plants to help block out the light to his den. Upon looking around and gathering his supplies he stopped feeling a strange current in the tank making him look up.

He slowly swam over and hid under the deck liking that the water was slightly colder under the deck then in his cave. Eventually Yukie popped his head above the water keeping his nose and mouth under to keep his gills comfortable. He watched as Adrian sat sitting on the platform slightly smiling. Yukie frowned at the smile and sulked where he was his tail continuing to move to keep his body where it was.

"I'm sorry you are so disrupted... I want to make you content again like before, remember that?"

Adrian smiled as he out stretched a gloved hand as he picked up a piece of the raw fish and held it out towards Yukie so he wouldn't have to come out of the water.

The marine biologist was already breaking the rules. The creatures that were meant to be ambassadors were only allowed to be fed if they did something to earn it. This was to help train them to be easier to work with and see the trainers as the sole providers.

Right now however he was more concerned about gaining the merman's acceptance of him back.

Yukie nodded and gently took the fish seeming to calm down more. He poked at the raw fish checking it over before eating a bite of it. "...I don't like being in here" Yukie explained as best as he could before finishing the fish. "...It's bad" he added after a moment not truly able to explain what he hated about his tank. The merman knew English pretty well since he had lived so close to the fisherman.

"It's, not good" he muttered once again before going back under the deck to enjoy the cold water for a moment and stretch out his body. In truth Yukie hated his small cave his species building their whole lives around the caves and the colder water helping them in the months of child bearing. Most of his kind liked the warmer water for swimming and relaxing but as a creature who had adapted to be able to light up their homes the bright lights outside the tank where quite intimidating. He also found the lack of seaweed species concerning this to him indicating his environment was unhealthy. Because of the lack of proper living space it was making his body go into a frenzy trying to adapt to a living place that made him uncomfortable and in turn it was starting to make him paranoid he was in danger.

"I'm sorry you feel that way... I'm going to try and make it better, okay?"

Adrian promised as he reached for another fish to give to Yukie but already it seemed that the merman was hiding underneath the platform, gripping his hands on the edge he leaned down to poke his head between his legs. His dark hair flopping forward and slightly submerging in the water as he tried to watch the other.

"I'm already working to get you a better cave with a deeper system so you can find some more nooks and stuff."

He added with a smile, pulling himself back up, splashing a bit of water in his own face in the process. But Adrian didn't seem to mind and just kept on grinning softly.

"I seen you light up a bit when I first entered near your home... I bet the water is really deep and cold then where you live."

He muttered to himself as he stood up and went to go take a few more notes. But the marine biologist already had so many questions he wanted to ask, but nor did he want to overwhelm Yukie and make this seem like some kind of interrogation.

Adrian could be a real bastard, but his redeeming side was that he was generally more kind to animals then people. Most of the time... He was still a scientist and trainer first.

Yukie nodded understanding the man as he poked his head up again. “...thank you”. Yukie looked away softly moving his head above the water to look at the man before reaching out and touching the mans foot. He was quite surprised by how soft the mans skin was his face was one of curiosity and surprise. “It’s like the rocks” he mumbled his mind associating the rocks smoothness with Adrian’s soft feet.

“The rocks are nice...they weren’t like home...but I like them” Yukie added before splashing the man fully and going back to his cave. While he wasn’t to scared of Adrian he did have a deep instinct fear to be afraid of him. And despite his comfortableness being around humans due to growing up around them. He knew not to get to close Adrain being an exception since he had given Yukie a partnership rock and had in their culture been accepted as his mate.

Adrian laughed slightly when he felt the merman's hand brushing against the curve of his feet, by now he could tell the action was only curiosity and not aggression at all. Funny how they both were already learning about each other in little ways...

"Oh?"

The scientist hummed, and he supposed that his feet would be fascinating to the sea creature in the same way that fins were interesting to him.

If only he could swim through the water as elegantly as the fish did... Though he supposed if given the choice in the end he would be grateful to have his legs instead since being human just meant he was put here to be the voice for the ocean life.

"I-- Hey!"

Adrian laughed again and lifted up his hands to cover his face as a spray of water was aimed at him. Now he was properly soaked and he already taken off the dry suit so he might as well just go with it~

Peeling off his lab coat and laying it out to dry the clothing he wore underneath was skin tight.

Though it wasn't a fashion statement -well, not entirely- but more of a safety thing. Having loose clothing like the lab coat was technically not allowed on the edge of the deck because an animal could snag it or use it to pull him under to drown. It had happened before many years ago. But Adrian wasn't working here when it occurred so it wasn't even on his mind.

This time around he just needed the oxygen piece and tank, setting himself up before plunging back into the tank. He knew this was a bit risky, but he wanted to talk to Yukie more so he could understand him better. That was his purpose now.

Yukie was busy just looking around the cave before finding an smoother part of the rock as he laid down and relaxed. But, that was clearly short lived the male hearing a splash making him set his rock down on his bed. He poked his head out of the cave and looked around seeing the human having got back in the water. He quickly swam over encircling Adrian with his body before grabbing him to Keep him from sinking. He quickly moved his arms around the mans chest moving his tail in a powerful morning before bringing him up to the surface having though he had fallen in.

He at this point couldn’t put Adrian in the deck but, for the movement he could keep his head above the water to keep him from drowning. Yukie looked around once his head was above the water the merman looking for an orange ring to take his mate to not wanting him to drown or get hurt by the water.

Adrian wasn't expecting Yukie to come out of his cave... or so fast. Coming right at him! He tried to swim away by a man could never out speed a fish in it's own element and he feels himself being... hugged from behind?

Well, he wasn't expecting that. The marine biologist knows not to struggle and simply lets the merman carry him up.

This was a lot less violent then their first interaction, but he still assumed this was just Yukie's politer way of trying to get rid of him by physically carrying him away from his nest.

"Okay! Okay! I'm going! I'm going!"

Adrian pried himself free with a gasp as he did a swimmer's crawl back to the deck and quickly pulled himself out of the water and rolled over on the platform with a pant, tossing the mouth piece aside so he could just breath naturally.

Though he seemed hardly shaken up and was already laughing it off.

"Woo~ You're something else, aren't you..."

“...humans don’t do well in the water without their suits.” Yukie replied looking up at the man before huffing angrily. “Don’t go in again without it” he demanded having seen many fisherman fall into the water and sink due to their heavy clothes. The male couldn’t help but be angry for Adrian’s reckless behavior. Yukie saw him as his mate so it was only instinct to protect and watch over him if he did fall into the water. The male continued to glare at Adrian clearly ticked off about the incident before moving away from the deck and splashing him much more angrily then the playful splash from last time.

With a quick swim back the male went back to his nest to relax and try to get some peace and quiet. Despite once again being hidden away due to his camouflage coloring he did keep his head resting to where he could watch and see if his mate fell back in again. He watched as Adrian seemed to lay on the platform for a few minutes but relaxed more when he moved to touch his face reassuring the male that he was still alive and breathing fine.
