Umeji opened his eyes as they two had left his room. He was awake and knew they were there. He hoped this would keep that neko off his case for a while at the very least. In the back of his mind he worried they would say something to Yi but for now he would see how things played out. He knew jumping to conclusions wasn't a good idea in his current situation.

Time went on and being around Luva was growing on him more and more. However his body was reaching its limit. He knew he couldn't continue on like this if he planned to survive. Even so he refused to speak up about it. Plus he knew Yi had no intentions of removing his collar any time soon. Thus speaking up about his injuries was in his eyes all a waste of time.

However it seemed things were suddenly changing for him. While by Luva's side one day, he was called out by Yi himself. He was hesitant until the younger male encouraged him to go. With a heavy heart he went with the man curious as to what he had to say to him. He wasn't sure why this person was suddenly wishing to talk to him but he was bought by him so the least he could do was listen. As he sat down Umeji listened to what the other had to say. The offer he placed before him was one he disliked immediately. The last thing he wanted was to be showcased as a prize of sorts.

Once given the chance to reply he answered with a simple no. Typing upon the tablet he told the other exactly how he felt. "I have no intentions of going to parade about like your gold medal. I get you have a status to uphold but what you're asking me is something I can't do. No matter what training you plan for me in the end it will just be a waste on your part. I will continue with all the senseless tasks I do around here but I can't go with you. I know you wish for me to protect Luva and my heart is with you there. However as I am now I will only pose as a hindrance. I am at my limit and I don't wish to push myself more than I have. I hope you can understand." he said with a polite bow of his head.

Umeji could deal with being there if it was for Luva. That was beyond clear but he knew as things were now he couldn't do that. His body was crying for him to rest but he couldn't do that either. Pushing forward was all he knew how to do. Its what he was best at even if it would break him down to dust.

Yi watches the other without expression. "I see. Apparently both I and Luva have overestimated you." He leans back and waves a dismissive hand. "Go and tell Luva your decision. I need to figure out who can make sure that the socialites don't try and succeed in killing Luva in your place." Standing up he goes over to the door. "One of you escort him to Luva and the other go let Yuki know to meet me in the library." The demons outside the door nod and do as asked.

When Luva sees Umeji, he immediately perks up and bounces over. "So? What happened? How was your meeting with Yi-sama? Ooo! Are you coming with me to the other house? It's not as big as this one but has a really amazing rose and lily garden, and the cafe's are fantastic!" He gushes, hands clasped under his chin as his eyes sparkle. "Ooo! And wait until you see the ballrooms. The people are horrible, but the places and fashion are amazing!!" It becomes increasingly clear that the young demon is making plans for having his friend with him to the city.

Meanwhile, Yuki enters the library and goes over to where Yi is standing. "Yes Yi-sama?" Yi glances back at her before facing back out the window. With a soft, weary sigh he rubs his eyes. "We need to find someone who can be Luva's bodyguard. Umeji has failed his test. Provided that he can get himself together and survive the season here, we'll remove his collar and get him somewhere he won't be a danger to us." Yuki sighs softly, the disappointment and resignation clearly showing on her face.

"I see." She says softly but gives a slow nod. "Luva will be so upset, but I am sure he will understand." She says softly. Yi nods slowly. "I had bought Umeji for the same purpose as anyone else, however, there was something else about him as well. It's unfortunate I was so wrong about this one, but we just found him too late it seems. A shame and a waste but there's nothing we can do if he's unwilling to change." With another shared sigh, the two turn to leave the library to continue planning for the upcoming storm they will once again have to weather.

Umeji looked at Yi as it seemed his response wasn't taken well. However he had guessed that much from the start. He lowered his gaze as the other dismissed him but made sure to tell him to speak with Luva. Mustering up the last ounce of energy he had within him he glanced over his shoulder towards Yi. "I am sorry Yi-sama." he said as he left the room. It wasn't until he was away from the room that it was realized he had used his own voice to say that. The sound was nothing like the legends. It was more as if Umeji was talking with a mouth and throat full of sandpaper and broken glass.

He was taken down the many halls and was soon before Luva. He was unable to smile back at the hyperactive young male before him. Lowering his gaze he pulled Luva into a gentle hug. His actions alone spoke for the words he didn't say. He pulled back looking away highly disappointed with himself. Umeji had his pride as a fox but he knew he'd only cause more trouble if he went anywhere as he was. He took the tablet and placed it in Luva's hands. He gave an apologetic smile as he pats his head.

He grew silent as he sat there looking at the other. Umeji knew he had let Luva down. That alone broke his heart and he was sure that was the last of his heart left to break. Taking the tablet briefly he looked at it. He began typing. "Why are you so kind to me? I don't get it. I have nothing to give but my monotone expressions. Someone as bright as you are should pick your friends better. I'm too gloomy. At least I was until I met you. I am glad I met you Luva. Even if it was just for a short while. I was able to feel the sun in myself." he said as he lowers his gaze a bit more.

Umeji stood up as he wanted to return to his room. He felt exhausted and he was sure his time here would come to an end soon enough. Even so he stood up glancing at Luva once more before walking off. He knew the one rule of this house was to never roam alone but he didn't want to trouble anyone. Walking down the halls his finds himself drawn towards the garden. Entering the empty and quiet place, Umeji walked towards the largest tree there and sits under it. 'This place feels like home...' he thinks as he closed his eyes. Something about this garden washed over so much peace within him. Plus he can remember all the times he was here with Luva.

Little known to him he was still being watched over. Kairis and Jin looked at one another. "Finally Yi-sama has gotten wise to this freeloader." Kairis says crossing his arms. "You idiot Luva will surely put up a fight about this. That boy has grown quite attached and it seems so has Umeji. I wonder if its something else that has him so closed off. surely everyone besides you has been kind to him. I don't wish to see him go either so why don't we help him." Jin says. Kairis wasn't willing but he nods going along with Jin's idea to help Umeji.

Jin and Kairis made there way to find Yi. Upon finding the other, Jin stops him. "Yi-sama I have a proposal to offer you. Even I can tell when you feel like you've failed one of your own. So allow me to take Umeji under my wing for a while. Also dont search for a replacement to go with you. I have a good feeling about what I plan to do. Umeji will be joining you and Luva for sure. All I ask is for his key and this one chance. I know the risks and I'm fully aware I'll take all responsibility as well. However I don't think we should throw in the towel for him just yet." he says with his usual grin

Luva is initially stunned and lets the other walk off without responding, but once he comes to scowls. "Oh no, he does not get to do that." The young demon clenches his hands and storms off to find the kitsune. When he finds the other, the door slams open. "Umeji!" He yells, eyes flashing as he points at the other. "You are going to listen to me and listen well!"

It is clear that the young demon, while still in the process of recovering, is mad enough to where true hints of his yokai nature are slipping out such as his eyes. "I am nice to you because I like you, and respected the strength I thought you had. Clearly I overestimated you there since you're allowing yourself to wallow in self-pity." He looks down at the other. "Instead of being willing to step up and try to make the best of a situation, or actually getting to know others, you've made snap judgments about those that are here both staff and Yi-sama alike, looked down your nose at the others and who knows what else." His eyes narrow as the normally happy and hyper demon pokes the other in the chest to drive home his points.

"You don't even bother to try. Not in any shape, way, or form and have the audacity to lay claim to some sort of pride I bet. What pride is there if you can't even be bothered to try or at least fight back? Have you bothered to learn anything about any of us? Or have you let yourself be blinded by your anger and resentments to the truth?" Luva demands before straightening up, to continue to glare down at the other. "You will be going through the training, and you will not give up so easily. How dare you even consider it and even momentarily allow those bastards who tormented us win? I won't allow it. Do you hear me?!" Turning, he stops to point at the other. "Get your self-pitying done with now, because tomorrow the training will start and will even get you myself."

Message conveyed, the other stalks off back into the building leaving a stunned silence in his wake as if nature itself had held its breath in the wake of the demon's rampage. Yuki, who happened to be nearby, covers her mouth to stifle her laugh before turning to relay what happened to Yi. When he hears the news, Yi can't help but to laugh. "Well, that's one way to get things done. I doubt that kitsune has any idea of just what he's in for." The laughter and smile reveal a much different side of the lord of the manor.

Come morning Luva and Yuki are outside the other's door. "We're here! Don't make me open this door!" He calls out after knocking, sounding almost like a father warning his child. Yuki barely manages to keep her amusement hidden as they wait to take the other to begin his training in etiquette, manners, and the like. While they won't have to directly engage with the socialites much, they still need to know proper protocol and how to conduct themselves appropriately as to blend in as much as possible. Thiis is one of the few ways they manage to find out information to keep their home safe and growing.

After all, who cares what is said in front of mindless 'pets' or slaves right? They're either not worth noticing in the background or too stupid to know what their betters are talking about.

Umeji was minding his own as he was enjoying the views of the garden around him. The silence cut short as Luva suddenly enters with a fury almost as scary as a woman’s scorn. He was unable to utter a single word in defense as the young male tore into him like a piece of raw meat. He listened to his words and simply stayed quiet. Though he didn’t have the tablet with him so it’s not as if he could have replied back.

Once Luva was gone, Umeji stood up and returned to his room. He didn’t expect such a reaction from the other. ‘Did I guess wrong... I can’t seem to read a single person here like this... I hate it.. I hate it... I HATE IT...!!’ he thinks making it to his room for the night. Once in his room Umeji sat upon the floor. He stared out his window thinking on what Luva had just told him. He honestly couldn’t see himself ever getting over the things done to him. However he wouldn’t allow someone half his size to get away with such words. He smiled a little as he wanted to laugh but found it impossible.

He found himself asleep soon enough and awake the next morning. He sat upon the edge of the bed until the knock upon his door was heard. He slowly inched towards it as he opened up to see Luva and Yuki. He gave a small head nod to acknowledge their presence since he was sure he couldn’t carry the tablet along with him during this training. His gaze shifts towards the floor a bit as he then glanced at Luva. So far one couldn’t tell without closely looking but his eyes were different. The golden color had turned a greyish white. Umeji himself hadn’t realized the change. He was focused on making it through the day like every other.

He began wondering just what kind of training he’d be going through. Seeing the expression on Luva’s face yesterday; he worried it would be something different from the things he’s been doing every day since he’s arrived here. Thusly he couldn’t help but think about it all last night.. even as he slept the thought was on his mind.

Luva smiles at the other demon. "Good! I hope you're ready for a lot of hard work. We don't have much time to get you up to par." He is dressed a little differently today as instead of his almost casual clothing, which would be suitable for working in the greenhouse or garden, he is wearing almost robe-like garments that seem to enhance his looks and 'otherness'. At the same time they are also more restrictive and made of much higher quality cloth. Even Yuki is wearing more formal clothing.

"Good morning kit-kun. Go ahead and get your tablet. You may have need of it throughout your lessons." The female demon gives a small smile and they wait, mostly patiently, for the kitsune to do as told. She notices the change in the other, but doesn't comment on it. She wouldn't be very good at her job if spotting subtle clues weren't in her skill set. "Good. Now, your lessons will dictate where they will be held. Today's lesson will be held in a parlor room, but will also include the dining room." She informs the other while leading the way further into the manor. They stop in what is one of the sitting rooms that would normally be for guests who are calling upon Yi for a visit.

"Now, today's lesson will focus on posture and poise. It is important to appear graceful and demure even when you think no one is around to see." Yuki suddenly becomes a little more stern and intense, as she all but glides into the room seeming as though she floats more than walks. Even Luva moves more gracefully, but there are changes as well. His eyes are slightly down, though head raised, and his are crossed in front of him with the elbows slightly bent. "Just so Luva. Now then, let us see what we have to work with here."

She turns to Umeji with a glint in her eye and proceeds to drum into the kitsune poise, posture, and how to walk with a measured step that is smooth yet swift. Breaks are infrequent and they only stop when it is time to eat. "We will resume an hour before dinner. Until then I want you to practice what you have learned. Here, use this to assist with your posture." Yuki hands the kitsune a book before they head to the dining area.

"Well? What do you think so far? Yuki's a tough teacher but she's really good!" Luva rambles happily as they make their way to a table. "There are numerous other lessons you'll have to learn to, but at least getting to the point to where you can at least look the part is perhaps the most important." He comments in a chipper tone while loading food on his plate.

Umeji looked at the two before going to grab hold of the tablet. Once he had it following them was easy. Something about the way they were dressed almost bothered him. It was as if someone plucked them out of a comfort zone and into uncomfortable situations. It worried him he’d have to wear such attire to train. Not as if this training would seem so difficult. He had basic knowledge of etiquette. Not as if he had ever had the actual chance to use any of it though. He didn’t even wish to recall how he had come to learn either. Nevertheless he was here and it seemed likely he’d have to show what he could do.

As they entered what appeared to be an area for guests, Umeji noticed their walk into the room. He watched them closely. Taking in mental notes on top of the ones he already has. ‘It’s not that different but the arms and eyes are..’ he thinks as he was given the chance to try it himself. He followed Luva’s stance as he lightly moved. His posture off but he tried his best. Being light on his feet was one thing he was good at. He glanced up towards Yuki and Luva as the training didn’t end there. It felt like a continued cycle of trial and error. Umeji felt like he was wasting their precious time with this. However he kept at it until it was time for them to break for a meal. He honestly didn’t want to go sit down at the table. By now he had grown sick of watching everyone else eating around him. He was a constant reminder of his time locked away.

As he sat beside Luva the other asked him about the training. He took the tablet and types away. “I am not unfamiliar with this kind of thing. I was taught these skills before. However your way of teaching is much more enjoyable than what I’ve experienced. I hope I can live up to the expectations but I’m growing tired.” he holds the screen to him and then types some more. “Well eat up and I’ll practice some more. After all I can’t let someone as cute as you scold me again.” Umeji said with a smile. This was fine as it was for him. Getting to see a smile on Luva’s was enough to brighten up his day. Thus he’d work hard to witness it.

Luva laughs embarrassed and rubs the back of his neck. "I don't know about my standards, but I do feel like you could be really happy here with us and well..." He looks down and twiddles his thumbs. "I got really upset when it seemed like you didn't even want to try and be happy." Luva bites his lip in thought then glances over at Umeji. "Right now I can't say much, but I promise that there's a lot more here then you think." The young demon says softly.

He listens to the kitsune in terms of eating his food. "If you already know some then that will help a lot. Though that might mean Yuki-san will be even harder on you if she finds out." The young demon grins at the kitsune before it turns wicked. "Though, you may have to swallow your pride some more. You'll have to get a bit cozy with Yi-sama too." Nudging the other in the side with his elbow, the young bird whispers conspiratorially. "He's pretty hot though so it's not too bad even though he's older than what I would normally go for." Laughing loudly he straightens back up before finishing his meal.

Once done, they go back and begin going through the rules of being in the society that Yi will be taking them into and how they will be expected to conduct themselves. "Now, it is key that you do not respond or react to anything that is said or done to you unless your safety is in danger." Yuki stresses while looking Umeji in the eye. "For the most part, as we are not considered worth notice, most of the ton will ignore you. However, you will be expected to be observant yet invisible unless directly addressed." She paces slowly while lecturing while they are in a small study. Looking out the window, she pauses. "It is getting late however, and you must be tired. Tomorrow we will go over the lessons for serving food and drink as well as getting you measured so appropriate clothing can be ready by the time you go."

With a soft sigh, she turns and faces the two demons with a small smile. "You two can go now." She keeps it a secret that the lessons the next day will be with Yi. So the next day, Umeji is first instructed briefly by Yuki but then Yi enters the room and sits. "Now then!" She claps her hands with a grin. "Let's see you at it."

Umeji looked at him silently for a while. He types a bit. “Well I guess you’re right about that. I don’t see a need to be happy anymore. There’s always someone that will take it from you. So I’ve given up on finding any kind of happiness for myself. However if I can bring happiness to someone else then I don’t mind doing that.” he typed meaning he’d go the mile for Luva’s happiness. Umeji looked at the other as he kept quiet again. He was sure this place might have what he wanted but at this point that was the last thing on his mind.

The sudden urge to flee rushed through him the second Luva said he’d have to cozy up to Yi-sama. That was the very last thing he’d ever wish to do. Just the thought of it sent shivers throughout his body. “I would prefer not involving myself too much with that man. Humans aren’t nice at all. They pretend to get what they want. I’m sure that Yi-sama is no different.” Umeji typed as he looked down. He couldn’t bring himself to understand why everyone here trusted that man. He still couldn’t figure out why he was brought here in the first place. The man in question has yet to ask anything of him beyond these small things. It wasn’t what he’s use to encountering at all. It’s what made him even more wary of being around Yi.

Umeji continued by Luva’s side till he finished eating. The continuation of the lessons went on until it had gotten rather late. Umeji was beyond tired but not from learning. Once Yuki gave them the okay to leave, Umeji headed to his room. Once there he laid down in the one corner of the room beneath the window and fell asleep. He had still not gotten use to using the bed at all. Though he wasn’t even giving it a try. He actually slept that night only due to extreme exhaustion.

The next morning arrived and Umeji was up early. He washed his face and prepared for more lessons. However today was different from the last. Yi himself was there and that very thought caused him to be more reserved than he had been just previously. He was still taking his lessons seriously. He kept in mind he was doing this for Luva and no one else. He took a mental deep breath and kept calm. He’d show off what he knew and learned in no time to avoid Yi wishing to get rid of him.

Yuki sighs seeing the change and shakes her head. "No, that will not do. It is one thing to conduct oneself well and with composure, but if you are so stiff obviously avoidant then it becomes clear you are not well trained." She frowns clearly noting the changes and disapproving. After several more attempts Yi sighs and waves a hand to end the session. "This is clearly going nowhere fast and I am needed elsewhere. We will try again tonight or tomorrow depending on when I return."

Yi has a faint look of irritation, but not for the reason that perhaps Umeji would think. Instead it is that more trespassers have been scented and that does not bode well for those in the manor. Yuki frowns slightly and looks at Yi with some concern. "We will continue on with the lessons. Please be careful." She bows slightly and Yi gives her a small smile. "No need to worry about me so much, I'll be fine."

The snow woman merely nods but still looks worried as Yi leaves the room. Once the door closes she turns back to the kitsune before beginning to tap her finger in thought for a few moments before speaking. "Are you incapable of developing any trust or positive emotion for Yi-sama?" She finally asks bluntly. If the other says 'no' then the whole training is pointless and Luva will have to deal with his disappointment. This venture into society is far too important to risk all the lives of the yokai who live at the manor.

Meanwhile Yi leaves the manor with a small group once more, but this time the focus is to find and destroy. So the large group splinters off into pairs, each allowing their yokai nature full reign as they track down the intruders. This time a message will be sent and small bits of each of body will be left were the identified entry point was found so that others will know to enter at their own peril. It takes a few hours but eventually all the intruders are found and taken care off.

Once done they regroup and share any intel gathered before heading back to clean up and hold a meeting with the others on security detail. Except for Yi who goes to meet with Yuki for an update as well as possibly to discuss with Luva finding someone else to take with them.

Umeji tried his best but he still couldn’t find it in him to be near Yi. At some point the training came to a halt as Yi leaves the room. He glanced over at Yuki with a sigh. He held the tablet and types. “I never said I couldn’t get along with him. My distrust isn’t in just humans alone. Yokai aren’t as kind to me either. Yi-sama, I don’t understand why he has brought me here. In all my times being sold and bought it was for a reason. Is my purpose just to do as he wants of me? I don’t have a reason beside wanting to make Luva smile. I’ve never lived doing what makes me happy. It’s always been for the sake of others. So Yuki, why am I here?” he typed as he let out a sigh

Umeji dropped to the floor. He was growing tired with the lack of nutrition. “If there’s more lessons then let’s do them. I won’t let Luva down. He’s counting on me and that’s enough to keep me going. I will get along with Yi. As for trusting him.... until I know what I am here for. I just want to know my purpose. Without one it’s hard to keep myself moving forward.” he typed as he was prepared to continue.

He went through the day taking care to focus on everything Yuki was teaching. His mind was focused towards his sole goal of keeping Luva smiling. However his body was slowly starting to work against him. His hunger levels were becoming an issue. It was something he couldn’t ignore any longer. Though he continued pushing himself and just moving forward. He didn’t wish to become a problem for anyone within the mansion especially Yi.

Yuki gives him a flat stare. "And just what have you done to address that besides allowing yourself to wallow in a prison of your own making? If I recall correctly insults and distrust are all that have been offered to all of us except perhaps Luva to some extent. No attempt to apologize or reach out has been made and so far with Luva, is he not the only making any effort in developing and maintaining your friendship?" She waits a moment to let it all sink in.

"Perhaps instead of expecting others to do all the work in obtaining your trust, it is time to own up and develop your own happiness and meaning. As I'm sure Luva has mentioned, there is more going on here than your narrow view of it and as long as you continue to show nothing but mistrust and suspicion then nothing but mistrust and suspicion will be returned. It is up to you, not others nor Luva, to discover meaning and how to move forward." She can tell the other is exhausted and why, but as the other has not told her of his injuries she feels no need to give him leeway for it. "That will be your focus for the remainder of the day. I will walk with you to wherever you wish to in order to reflect upon what I have said. Tomorrow we will discuss what it is you have decided, if you manage to reach a decision."

With that the kitsune is clearly dismissed and the snow woman walks the other to where he shall spend time for now. "Someone will of course come to see if you wish to join us for meal time, but if you prefer to just spend it in your room that is fine as well. I shall see you tomorrow if you decide to not come to dinner." She gives a small nod then leaves Umeji.

When Yi returns to the manor it is still some time before he sees Yuki and Luva. "Clearly he is still focused on what happened to him and is having difficulty focusing on moving forward. However, he has shown no signs of being willing to even be cordial or open to getting to know others and work with them. You need to figure out who can be our other set of eyes and ears this season. It is the best time to get information and plan our next move, but also far too much is at stake if he can't even properly fake the part of an obedient servant." Yi states flatly. He had had hopes for the kitsune but the other has made little progress and the only progress to speak of is the friendship with Luva.

Luva sighs disappointed but nods slowly. "I know a few that could do it, but could we maybe give him at least until the end of this week before we decide?" He asks tentatively. The okami in hiding stares at the young demon for several long and silent moments, making the other squirm slightly, before nodding. "I will allow him the next three days then. However, if he cannot show any signs of being able to trust or desire to be here by then, he will be kept away from the others and allowed to heal without the collar but upon recovering will be told to leave." At that point it is likely that Yi and Luva will be gone to begin the journey to the city.

Luva nods eagerly and with a look of determination. "Understood. I'll go see if he wants to join for dinner." He stands up, bows quickly, then rushes from the room to go check on his friend. "Me-kun! Me-kun!! Are you going to come with me to dinner?" He calls out hopping to a stop in front of the other with a grin.

Umeji was silent as he listened to Yuki. Once left alone he sighs going to the garden to think on his own. Trusting others wasn’t his strong point but he trusted Luva and that didn’t seem to bad. He had always lived alone but under the rule of someone else. Nine tails as rare as they were never had much freewill. Their presence alone always struck fear into others of both mortal and yokai alike. Thus they always tend to serve under others in order to keep a peaceful appearance. Wanting anything for them selves was a rare feeling. Umeji was one of those rare nine tails. Despite living under the thumb of others he had always wanted to live in peace.

He began thinking if opening up to the others here would truly help him in any way. There was nothing much more for him to lose except his heart which was barely there at this point. He stayed there relaxing and in deep thought. His mind telling him to run but at the same time to stay. He was well aware that leaving this place would do him no good. His previous home was reduced to ashes. The only place left for him was a place he knew to never return to unless he was sure this world had nothing left to offer him. The quietness of the garden was wonderful until Luva came for him. It seemed yet again he would be stuck watching everyone enjoy the delicious meals prepared here. Working in the kitchen he knew just the amount of effort gone into the meals. He knew they would be very good to eat. Yet he'd never know that at the moment. Despite all this Umeji stood up and smiled at him.

Heading to the dining room where all the other yokai were gathering for supper. He sat down as usual and looked at Luva. He gave a small smile before looking towards Yuki. He gave a small motion to call her over if possible at this time. Once he seemed to have her attention he stood up and moved to the side to speak with her. Using the tablet he began typing. “I’m sorry for everything. I’ll try harder tomorrow. May I be excused from dinner tonight? It truly does pain me to not be able to eat. I hate to admit this but I can not recover from my wounds as I would like to. The lack of food and sleep are starting to really get to me. I am sorry for not saying anything sooner but I just never liked appearing weak around others. Nine tails are known for their strength after all.” he typed looking down. This was really hard to say or in this way type. However he was sure Yuki might be the only other who wouldn't look at him as if he was weak. He can still freshly recall how Luva reacted when he showed him his wounds.

Umeji was trying his best to open up but he was sure his most difficult obstacle to overcome was Yi. Opening up to that person was something he wasn’t sure he could do. However he’d try if only to avoid being told he wasn’t giving his all. His gaze shifts towards the floor. He had no clue if this would be enough to consider it a start of him trying his best.

Yuki gives the kitsune a small smile. "There is nothing weak about admitting your limits. It takes strength to do such. Go and try to get some rest. Even yokai cannot go indefinitely despite all our amazing abilities." She gently brushes some hair out of the other's face before patting his cheek then walks with the other to his room. Once there the snow woman waits for Umeji to go in and shut the door then heads back to finish her dinner.

The next day two unknown demons come to escort Umeji to his lessons which are to be in a sitting room near the greenhouse. The two don't speak much and it is clear that they are different from the other yokai around the place as they carry themselves as though prepared to take action at any moment despite seeming at ease. Perhaps most interesting is that one is large and burly like a bear and the other sleek like a cat. When they reach the room they wait at the door as the kitsune enters.

Upon entering it is clear that something is going on as Yuki has a slight look of worry and Yi has deep furrows between his brows and a frown. Their expressions shift as the other enters the room, Yi taking a more neutral look and Yuki gives a small smile. "Good morning Umeji. Were you able to get some sleep?" Yi looks at the escorts and nods to dismiss them. They nod and leave after a quick salute.

Umeji was a bit glad he was making a step in the right direction. That's mainly his goal now after all. He leaves the dining area with Yuki and returned to his room. As he entered he looked around the space. There wasn't really anything that made it feel like home to him. He wonders if he would have a chance to decorate as time went on being here. He sighs softly as he decided to actually use the bed. He twisted and turned for a while before falling asleep. It was much more comfortable than using the floor. It was the first time in several years since he felt like he had such a good sleep.

Morning arrived and Umeji was awake preparing for the day. To his surprise he was met with two unknown males to escort him today. "Good morning." he said as he stepped out his room and follows them. He couldn't help but take close note of each of them. It was a habit of his he just couldn't help at time. He kept silent as they made their way to the sitting room. Once there, Umeji began to enter the room. He glanced back at the two of them. "Thank you very much." he said with a light bow of his head before going into the room. The atmosphere was too heavy for him and he could sense something was wrong. He returned the smile to Yuki as he greeted them both. "Good morning Yuki, Yi-sama." he said keeping in mind he had to get along with everyone here. He had to keep telling himself they weren't bad, they weren't the enemy.

As he thinks to himself he wasn't sure why but he felt his lessons today wouldn't be as smooth sailing as before. Something was clearly happening and he knew nothing of what it was. He was a bit too nervous to ask what is was as well. Knowing he hadn't been here that long he was sure the trust issue wasn't just on his part alone. Thus he assumed if he asked it would only cause trouble. That was a landmine he wanted to avoid.

Yi blinks in surprise at the kitsune greeting him but nods in return. "Good morning." Yuki also greets him and motions him forward. "Things will be a little different today. You'll practice serving again, but we're going to include informal and formal aspects. In here would be informal, as would be most times outside of meals. At lunch time you will be playing the part of serving Yi-sama a meal as though entertaining other aristocrats or nobility." She frowns slightly in thought. "In regards to nobility it will always be better to err on the side of formality no matter what is being served." The snow woman finally states.

Yi gives an amused huff at the snow woman. "As if you do anything informally. Best not expect anyone to meet the standards you've set or else I'll be left with no one to take except you." Yuki gives his a slight glare which he ignores. "Now then, let's see what you're made of and if things go well here we can focus on fine tuning your skills." Which would also include beginning to teach the kitsune aspects of the job that have nothing to do with how well he can pour tea or quickly provide food or a refill.

Instead the kitsune will begin to learn how to listen and see without others being aware. Being able to commit information to memory and relay it without getting overheard or caught, and so on. Essentially what Umeji will learn is that the manor is not made of yokai slaves and servants, but spies and the ones who go with to the city during the season are of the most import as they are able to get the most information. After all, it is like the kitsune was told earlier. Amongst the higher classes, who would think to pay attention to a yokai slave? They are there for decoration and serving their betters and not worth any note except in those brief moments of use.

It is this way that Yi has managed to carve out this haven and learn which auctions to go to. Though he has to be careful to cultivate a suitable persona for the ton to make sure that no one finds out what he is doing which is why nearly every season he has to take different yokai with him. Excluding a few that are staple, such as Yuki but she runs the manor while he is gone, it makes him seem as indifferent and harsh to the yokai as others but with more funds to toss away in getting more 'toys' to replace the ones that 'break'.

Up until now Yi had been certain no one knew of his haven due to the care he takes. Most notably his reputation for not being a particularly willing host and when he does getting his yokai staff out of sight which is why he has many humans working the manor as well. Now though, things are feeling on the brink of change and it is uncertain which way things will tip and Yi cannot afford things to not go in their favor. Not when they are not yet ready for a potential war.

Umeji looked at Yuki as he listened to what he would be doing for the day's lesson. This was something he had never been fond of. It wasn't that he found serving others difficult or unpleasant. It was the kind of interactions he would end up in. Kitsune were obvious beauties and that meant gender wasn't easy to tell just by the face alone. In the past many kitsune would doll them themselves up to appear more feminine in order to trick others. Its why most are known to be tricksters. Even so its because of this that they Umeji knew the kind of situations he might end up in. 'If I can contain my emotions I suppose it sound be fine.. won't be the first time or last..' he thinks as he nods to what he has to do.

He began his lessons under Yuki's watch and guidance. He was having trouble switching from formal to informal. He rarely ever spoke to anyone informally. Since he wasn't actually talking to anyone here it was hard to tell just through his tablet text. Though his formalities were spot on. As if he had done this over a million times before now. His posture, bows and serving was all in accordance to Yuki's training. He was really taking things more seriously now.

Umeji had yet to consider this place as his official home. Even having this vague feeling he didn't wish to be the cause of this place falling to ruins. He found no fault in those who loved it here. So he would put his everything in to playing the part Yi needed him to play in order to keep this place as it is.

After a moment into the training, Umeji took his tablet and typed a message for Yi to read. "Don't look so stressed. Your heart will ache and so will many here. Its best to believe in what you've created will survive." his gaze was elsewhere as he couldn't look Yi eye to eye just yet. Though his efforts to try and cheer him up was something else all together. Umeji was going beyond just trying to get along with Yi and those who lived here. He was showing true concern where it was needed.

Yi reads the reply with faint surprise but offers a small tired smile. "Thank you for your concern. Unfortunately my stress is a result of doing what is necessary to keep our home going. It should ease after the season however." Or so he hopes, but the increasing boldness of those attacking his home concerns the manor lord more than even Yuki is aware. He hands back the tablet and slowly stands up, bones and joints creaking and popping as he does so.

Wincing before letting out a sigh, he shakes his head slightly. "We really need to find someone who knows massages or perhaps acupuncture." He mutters before lightly squeezing Umeji's shoulder. "You're doing fine and I hope you're starting to adjust to life here. It will be a shock to the system when we get to the city I'm sure, so enjoy your time here while you can." He walks to the door and pauses, head tilted in thought before continuing on. Should the kitsune continue to do well with integrating into the manor and learning his lessons, then he will begin to give pieces of trust to the other.

Over the next couple of days Umeji is taught how to dress in his new clothes, borrowed since his own are not yet finished, and how to tend to rooms for cleaning and such. After that he is once more in a room with Yi, though not for lessons. "You have been doing well so I thought it time to give you a little insight as to what you'll really be expected to do." Today he appears slightly more rested, but there is an edge to him that signals higher tension. "While you will be playing the part of a dutiful and attentive servant, you will be gathering intel on the other nobles. Most are ignorant to how my home is really run, and I work hard to keep it that way. However, many are resentful of me and so try to find ways to undermine my reputation or sabotage my income. For that reason as you intermingle with other servants and others, you must help gather all the information you can without being obvious or caught."

Yi takes in a breath then slowly lets it out while holding eye contact with the other. "In other words, you and everyone else will be my spies to help me stay aware and ahead of their plans. This is main focus of going to the city and being surrounded by all the meaningless parties and the like." A faint eye twitch is the only indicator of how irritated and exasperated he is with the whole thing already. "As such, everyone will need to be in top form when we go. Do you think you ready for that?"

Umeji looked at Yi as he nods a bit. His gaze upon the man as he could tell he wasn’t in the best of shape. His attention turned towards Yuki as Yi left the room. He hands her the tablet as he had typed out something new. “If Yi needs a massage I could consider it. I’ve done so before for those who previously owned me. I’ve been sold and resold countless times. I guess that’s one of the reasons I wasn’t able to feel anything here at first. I felt Yi would just toss me aside once realizing I couldn’t give him what he wanted. Though I’m curious Yuki; does Yi not know of what makes a nine tails worth so high?” his concerns were seemingly about Yi. Something that Umeji has shown little to no interests in up until now.

His gaze lowers as he bit his lip. The idea of entering the city did worry him but not all that much. This training was to prepare for that and he was trusting that the training was sufficient for anything that could happen. Though one thing he did worry about was the possibility of running into previous owners. He would hate for them to tell Yi something that would make the other toss him away. The one thing people sought from Umeji is the one thing he couldn’t do for anyone. Even with this worry flowing through him; Umeji continued to work hard during the training. He learned so much from how he’d be dressed right down to cleaning. It wasn’t easy but his determination helped him pull through. He was sure Luva would be proud of the effort he was putting in the change. It surely wasn’t as easy as he was making it look.

As the days went on Umeji was once more face to face with Yi on his own. Today felt like he’d be learning something more serious. With that in mind he was more focused than ever before. “A spy...!? I see so in order to find out who is after this place we attend this kind of thing. I’m curious to know though. Exactly what kind of information should I be looking or listening for? Those kind of people often have very trivial topics they discuss. Is there any key words or phrases I should be aware of?” he asked on the tablet, as he knew some times people could talk in code words which would make it hard to tell if it was important information or just bull crap. He glanced at Yi a bit as they were having eye to eye contact. It was odd for Umeji but he didn’t look away.

“I’ll be honest with you. I still am not sure how much I can really accomplish. However I feel like I can consider this place my home. So I want to protect it with my own two hands. If you’ll allow me to I am ready to prove I can be useful.” Umeji held the tablet with his hands shaking a bit. He had grown much in the short amouth of training time. Having someone like Luva and Yuki believing in him truly helped push him in the right direction. The fox had come a long way from the first day he arrived here.

At the kitsune's offer, Yuki blinks slowly in surprise before offering a faint smile. "That is kind of you to offer. I am not sure he would accept it, however, as he knows your... preference in keeping your distance and is not the sort to make others uncomfortable for his own needs and wants." It is delicately put, but in other words she is saying that due to Umeji's reactions and treatment of Yi initially and wariness still of him, the lord of the manor will not interact with the kitsune more than necessary even with the offer put out there. Not without some sort of reassurance that it is a genuine offer.

Yi nods and leans back. "Good questions, but unfortunately there is no real way to know. In all honesty it is unlikely that they will reveal anything in overly crowded areas, though that is where we hope to get as much information as possible. It is also the reason why I will be entertaining or visiting other aristocrats and the like while in the city. We have few solid leads at the moment, and none that can definitively point to certain individuals as those responsible." He sighs, resting his face in his steepled hands for a moment.

"The next portion of your training will be to learn to defend yourself in ways that will either leave the offender confused, disoriented, or forgetful of having encountered you. This is necessary as unfortunately you will also have to investigate the various homes and their inhabitants, and as such is a high risk endeavor. We do not have much time so you will be training with some of the best of my household to test your skills and improve upon what you have." It is clear that he has some misgivings and reservations about taking someone untried with, but doesn't voice those concerns. Yet.

"Tell me know if this is something beyond your abilities or willingness." He looks at his latest 'investment' waiting a response.

Umeji looked at him as Yuki. He guessed as much so he just gave a small nod of his head. He didn’t expect anyone to trust in him so easily so he wouldn’t complain. It’s not as if he could trust Yi all that much and he had a good reason for that as well. This place still made him question all of Yi’s efforts. He didn’t allow them to come up. That was until he began to learn more in depth of exactly what his duties would be once he was within the city. He wonders if Luva would also be risking it all in the efforts to obtain information. Umeji hates to admit he was skilled in such tasks.

“I am prepared to do what must be done. I was picked to go with you into the city and therefore I won’t let you down. Incidentally I would like to ask for what should I be looking and listening for. People of that origin tend to ramble on pure nonsense at times that the truth can get lost. However I have known the rambling is just a clever smokescreen. Even while imprisoned I overheard much about many of the elite. That includes you as well Yi-sama.” he typed upon the tablet as he looked at him.

Umeji already had a few things that could be considered valuable information especially to someone like Yi. However he wouldn’t speak of if it meant someone would get hurt because of such intel. He wanted to be sure of his duties but as well that Yi wasn’t an enemy in disguise. He might be learning to let his guard down and open up but there was still a thin wall that refused to move. Umeji has that placed as a last resort. His previous owner to blame for such a wall of mistrust. Allowing that small truth out would set this entire manor in a completely different direction.

  • 2 weeks later...

Yi nods and claps his hands when the other nods. "Good." There is still trust to be gained and given from both parties, but it will take time. Time they may or may not have depending on how things go in the city. "As for what information and what too look for, generally anything overly interested in myself or my home. Yes, there will be a lot of gossip and such but it will take a bit of time to learn what is a 'smokescreen' and what is not. That, unfortunately, is just a matter of learning if codes have changed or not." He gives a faint sigh at the headache that very thought causes.

He gives a small nod and taps a finger when hearing the other has already heard about him from previous owners. "That does not surprise me, but if you can think of anything that might put this place or those who live here at risk then tell myself or Yuki." For a few moments he goes silent, looking off clearly thinking something over before slowly talking once more.

"There have been several attacks here already. Starting with the day I brought you here, and Luva was the victim that day. Thankfully no one else has been harmed since, but we continue to find intruders. This is not a 'new' development, but the intensity and frequency of it is. This has made this a priority in finding out just who is responsible and stopping them. Why they are doing so is not a primary concern, but would prove of benefit if we can discover that as well."

Focusing his gaze back on Umeji, it is clear that he holds reservations about how much involvement the other may have with the attacks on his home, but it is not certain if he places any blame on the yokai. Leaning back with a slight shrug, he decides that there isn't much else to do about it for the time being. Finally Yi stands up and goes over to Umeji, looking down at him. "I don't do this lightly, and normally it takes much longer before I have trust that yokai enough to do this. However, circumstances dictate this as a necessary risk as you need to be healthy and strong enough to do what needs to be done."

With that he produces a key and begins to unlock the other's collar. "When we leave a fake collar will need to be put on so as to not arouse suspicion or undue attention. However, know this, should you give any indication that you are a threat to those under my protection I will kill you without remorse." He makes eye contact as the lock clicks right before loosening then taken away from the other's throat as Yi straightens up, the collar in his hand. "You are dismissed for the remainder of the night. Someone should be out there to walk with you." Turning, he goes towards his desk to set the collar down.

Umeji held the tablet. He listened to what Yi had to say and something stood out to him. He couldn’t say for sure but he had a terrible gut feeling this trip to the city would turn out to be exactly what Yi wanted. However he also felt like it would turn out to be the exact opposite at the same time. For now he couldn’t tell him what he knew since he doubts Yi had all these yokai here for such a purpose. The man before him didn’t cross him as a hostile person. At least that’s the vibe he was given. At the present moment he held some trust for the man. He’d wait to confirm his suspicions in the city before saying anything more about what he had learned from previous owners.

As he stood there his mind focused on something Yi said. Luva being attacked on the day he was coming to this place. Somehow he felt like that was no coincidence at all. “Do you think someone other than those at the auction that day knows I’m here? I am starting to fear the worst and I don’t wish to think that. For the very reason I received all these wounds could very well be...” he stopped typing as he felt his own hands tremble. Thinking about the wounds he has suffered from only could be considered the worst nightmare in slim comparison. He gripped the tablet as he looked at him. His gaze shifts towards Yi’s as their eyes met. He stood there in pure silence as he suddenly realized what was about to happen. A key and not just any key but the one for his collar. He was happy but at the same time scared. He knew exactly what would happen once it was off.

Sure enough the collar was removed and it’s weight gone. At first nothing seemed to happen. Umeji wondered if he had lost all his power for a split second. However as he turned to leave the room his body tensed up. A surge of power circled around him and filled the air. It was heavy and filled with rage but foxes were like that. They could hold a grudge for decades. Umeji was covered in a glowing light as one could easily hear the sounds of snapping bones and muscles. He held himself as his body was healing on the spot. His power returning as well. It didn’t take long but he slowly stood up. His hair had grown and changed from black to white. His nails grew and his nine tails visible. If Luva could only see this now. Umeji turns to look at Yi. “I’ll see you in the morning then. Good night Yi-sama and thank you.” he says as he held the tablet in his hands. Before opening the door he returned to his former appearance as to not be seen in his fox form. His power was still weak so being in such a form was too much for his body. However he could now talk with others without the use of the tablet. That was something that made him more than happy. He was looking forward to tomorrow in the hopes to see Luva. ‘I’ll get to share a meal with him...’ he thought smiling happily

At the question of someone outside of the auction knowing about Umeji, he shrugs. "It is entirely possible. Even though it's for a select few, and invite only, there is nothing that stops gossip and I am well known for getting most of the rarest yokai when they are put up for auction. It is unlikely that the attack had anything to do with you directly, however. It is much more likely that it is due to fact that others are unhappy with my increasing status as well as having taking yet another jewel from a rival." He comments in an uninterested tone.

After reading the rest of the words that the other male managed to type out, he hands the tablet back. "It was always unavoidable that you would be eventually tracked down to here. Amongst the nobility gossip and ways to alleviate boredom would demand it. And as before it is unlikely that those bitter at my success in winning you would go untold. Should you have any information that would allow us to better prepare for possible retaliation, then share them right away." Though he doesn't share the increased attacks on the manor to Umeji, he can't help but wonder just what the other might know and if it could be linked.

Yi watches the entire change and gives a small nod when the other thanks him. "You will not see me tomorrow. First you will visit with the doctor for a check-up before you meet with others to work on your training. That will comprise most of your remaining training minus clothing and anything else Yuki deems necessary." He is unsure of how much the other hears him, clearly uplifted at being able to talk and lost within his own thoughts. Shaking his head with a faint smile, he goes to his desk to store the collar until it can be dismantled and destroyed.

Of course those standing out in the hallway had also felt the return of the kitsune's power, but other than some blank lookovers, nothing is said to him. The pair walk with the kitsune to his destination then take their leave. The next day greets the newly freed kitsune with three new people outside his door. "We are to take you to the training grounds." One states crisply before turning to lead the other to what is essentially a large gym and dojo combined at the farthest wing of the manor, attached by a covered walkway.

Umeji listened to Yi but was more so in his own mind for a while. He couldn’t help but be glad he could speak again. His gaze shifts towards Yi before he left the room. He looked at those who would lead him to his room. He thanks them with a simple good night as he had arrived to his room. Once inside he let out a yawn and headed for the bed. He couldn’t help but worry his arrival here caused some trouble. He wanted to inform Yi but was scared.

‘Should I talk with Yuki about it.... she might understand my worries... I can’t betray him... I can’t...’ he thinks as he started to fall asleep. As night turned to morning; Umeji awoke to the morning sun. He got changed and ready for training. He was as per usual greeted by someone at his door. “Good morning. I am ready to begin my training.” he said wondering when he’d have the chance to see Yuki or Luva. He was truly looking forward to seeing the young male. He was sure he had gotten this far due to Luva’s faith in him. He reminds him of a friend of his which is probably why he felt so close to him.

His mind was overthinking as he soon arrived at the large gym type dojo. The room was huge and yet so nicely decorated. He could tell it was a place for one to truly become stronger. It was incredible to see. This manor still had so many surprises for him to discover. He was actually looking forward to such things. Well for him it was as long as he was still able to stay here. “I wonder who will be training me.” he mumbles to himself before noticing someone there. “Oh if I remember correctly your name is Jin-san.” he asked. “Yup Indeed I am. I see you’ve found your voice how wonderful. As a snake I’ll be helping you with stealth. Being able to slip in and out of places unseen. However I won’t be your only instructor so you better pay attention.” Jin says. “Alright! I’ll do my very best.” Umeji says eager to move along with this.
