I know maybe this isn't really the place to talk about this...

lately, I've been having thoughts of suicide, i don't want to die but my mind won't stop thinking about it. Everyday seems more difficult then the last. I'm on depression medication and i'm trying to find a therapist my insurance can cover.

However, reading all these yaoi love stories, makes me feel better and has really helped me get through some tough times. Even though it's all fiction, I'm happy for these characters. Has all this boyslove have a positive impact on your life?

Thats nice to hold on something LadySpooks, but u will need more than that. Depression will become otherwise permanent and search his ways even around your hobby's.

A good therapist listens to you and doesn't speak...thats the first rule, keep that in mind. There are some that makes things worse. Google their reoputation before u even attempt going.

I know sometimes life can be and will be a bit hard, but just by merely believing in yourself that tomorrow is a new day and something great may come your way will definitely help a lot.

I know that it may sound a bit sugarcoated but believe me when I say that somewhere out there, someone is struggling and having a harder time than you. So don't ever lose hope and be thankful and positive in life.

If you need someone, please feel free to talk to me.

Well in my case it had/has the quota of energy i sometimes need, so it’s some relaxing reading for me, because is something I really like/enjoy.

But about you and depression: fight that bitch and win it! You can do it!! And keep looking for a good therapist with whom you feel comfortable and contained. As other user said above, check on google for the professional backround (just in case, because you never know). And I wish from heart you can overcome all this hard time so it can become only a memory in a much peaceful future!!

If you want to talk at anytime, feel free to contact me ^__^

I have been fighting depression and before I quit work I was going to commit suicide. The reason I didn't because I wanted to find out the continuation of various BL stories. And now when I feel real down I read BL novels and manga. It helps me feel better for sure and forget about dark thoughts at the time. And yes I am on meds and see a psychiatrist regularly. For me BL has helped me stay alive.

Continuation...

I don't read dark stories but happier ones, always with a happy ending.

I mean, yes and no.

On the yes, I have made some good friends over it, and it has certainly given me some reading material/porn over the years.

On the No-----it's the fans. Especially all the rabid female fans. They ruined so much of Yaoi for me. I personally---am not the biggest fan of non-canon ships. However, if things are left unsaid, or there's only a few implications or vague enough of a situation in which you can elaborate on realistically---then yes, that's ok. But when a creator/artist or character themselves comes out and says explicitly that "these characters are not gay" or character is obviously straight, evident from their partner of choice/dialogue, etc.... then I do not care for the Yaoi.

Plus the minute that I say I'm a gay man that reads Yaoi, they all flip out and ask me all these questions. Some are innocent, and that's fine, but the unrealistic expectations or romanticist ideal that these books portray that these ladies seem to think it is... is highly frustrating. It's not all Unicorns and Rainbows. Thanks to these groups of people, I've almost turned away from a lot of Yaoi and have tended to find it very exploitative.
