hey, yesterday I read a light yaoi that totally reminded me of Bad Luck! The name's Boku no high-spec Kareshi-sama, it has the same type of humour (*´꒳`*)

I'm sorry it looks so long, it's because of the copy and paste I did ヽ(´▽`)/

I'm not trying to put the gender/everybody-is-equal-and-should-be-free-to-like-what-they-want question here, I'm talking about facts.

Obviously when I say, for example, bara is made by men and for men, I don't mean 100% of the authors and readers are men, I'm saying it's the big majority of them.

Logically, if the main target of bara are men, it should be written by men too no? Why couldn't it be the same with yaoi?

Frankly I think you just reformulated what I said by adding some details, here take a look, I bolded the differences.

Me vs You

Hentai is porn manga whose goal is to show sex. It's made by men for men.

Hentai is just pornographic manga or anime without regards to gender or sexuality.

Yaoi is gay manga with a plot and some light sex scenes, though some manga are hard. It's by women for women.

Yaoi is gay manga and anime that is sexually explicit. It is very romanticised. It can be hard or soft. To say that it is made by women for women is a HUGE generalisation.

Shounen-ai is a manga where a gay relationship is implied, there's sometimes a kiss scene.

Shounen-ai is gay manga and anime that is implicit in nature. It focuses on the plot, has less relationship building and there's no smut.

Bara is gay manga made my men for men which breaks off with yaoi's feminine art style, it's very manly and muscular.

Bara is hyper-masculine gay manga and anime. It is typically made by men for men.

Gei komi (gay comic) is Tokifuji's work and this kind.

"I am gay so obviously I read geikomi [...] Since it's a bit long I'm gonna divide them. There is BL with love at its core, and there is geikomi with sexual relations at its core.

Soft or Hard, BL is always related to sexual scenes with the so royal road of "since there is love". (but liking it when you're a man is ok!) [..] geikomi is for gay men. It holds straight sexual desire, in other words, it's porno. Romance and others are secondary."

Gei komi is gay manga and anime that is typically made for gay men by men. It is more realistic and less romanticised than yaoi. Gay men usually prefer gei komi to yaoi because they feel it's more realistic and doesn't fall for the same cliches.

Boy's Love is a word that existed even before yaoi and stuff, as far as I know it was created in the US by the gay community for men who loves boys

though now the meaning has changed.

I don't know where BL comes into it. It seems to be the umbrella that covers all the sub-genres. I have no idea there.

Anyway, if you can't believe the gender of the authors and readers are rarely mixed, just take a look at the names of the hentai, yaoi and bara authors, unless it's only women hiding under male pen names and vice versa, which can be possible, to a certain extent.

You liking something doesn't mean everybody does, I don't mean it badly, that's just a fact. Sometimes we think yeah I like watching hentai even though I'm a girl, so what? But porn and hentai are for men at start (which obviously doesn't mean women don't/shouldn't watch it, I'm just saying this is made with the arousal of men in mind), that's why nowadays they started creating "female porn", targeted to the female watchers since they noticed more and more females are getting into porn.

I'm also surprised you dare to say yaoi is not by women for women since if you're used to yaoi you know the huge majority of the authors are women or people hiding their gender.

As for the readers, even though there are some males, the majority of us here are women aren't we? The few men I talked to here didn't even read much yaoi or bara.

You're even contradicting yourself by saying

Gay men usually prefer gei komi to yaoi because they feel it's more realistic and doesn't fall for the same cliches.

Because if they prefer geikomi and bara then it means yaoi's first target isn't men, doesn't it? (since you say bara is typically men for men − and I'd like to say I like bara every once in a while even though I'm a female Σ('◉⌓◉’) )?

Btw, as I was saying before, though it might not have been clear, geikomi means gay comics and are similar to bara, the only difference being it's not Japanese (but I guess bara could still be part of it since it has the same targeted public).

As I was saying in an older post, the base of sociology is women developed their brain differently from men because since they can't win by strength, they have to win by reflection, therefore we do prefer to see sex scenes coming with a real plot than just sex with shitty reasons, though obviously it doesn't mean women can't like this kind of things, just.. everything is not all white or black.

ゎーーーヾ【o・∀・o】ノーーーぃ♪

I love arguing ♪( ´▽`) I hope you understand why I gave those definitions before, if not I can give you sources, though you totally ignored my Japanese high-quality source.

Btw, "Hentai is just pornographic manga or anime without regards to gender or sexuality", this is typically what a feminist would say (〃ω〃) as if I was trying to say women are pure-hearted people who do not watch this kind of things. When I was a teenager I used to watch this kind of things so yeah, not many girls out there + sometimes the plot would stress me out because I didn't want it to happen this way − though I don't use the last part as a proof or anything.

If you go on porn sites and such, you just have to take a look at the comments to see the difference between men and women in that regard. Women don't often comment or comment to say they'd like to do it/are women and like this, whereas men say things like "this bitch is hot", "I'd like to fuck her" etc. So yeah, we don't search the same aspects.

I read the manga you suggested to me and I love it. My only problem is I can't seem to find a translation of chapters 4-7 I can only find raws so I'm left waiting around. Hilariously, my only complaint is that I want more.

I'm glad you liked it! I think it's the first time I read a yaoi with such humor, it was very well done. I'm also waiting for the scanlation, I think the last translated chapter was released a month ago so I think/hope the others will arrive soon!

Yeah... hurrrrm. Okay. I'm out. This now sounds less like a fee exchange of ideas and more like a head butting competition. Neither of us are going to agree and we'll just make ourselves look like arseholes in the process. Sorry. I'd much rather share yaoi titles (if I actually remembered them) and talk about how awesome yaoi is.

Wow seriously lol. You know there are opinions and facts, you can tell how you feel about bara and stuff, but then it's different from defining them, that's all I was pointing out but well, whatever ( ✌︎'ω')✌︎

. No, you were also giving opinions, backed up by other opinions. You were not giving facts. I respect your opinion but it is no more or less valid than my own.

Me me me! *waves hand frantically in the air*!

Also I wanna recommend this awesome Shoujo Ai webtoon called SQ: their story. It's about sporty girl Sun Jing and cute bunny Qiu Tong, how they fall in love, their adorable friends, and all the things they get up to! The webtoon has a diverse cast of characters with different personalities so it's really interesting to follow the story.
