Name: Curt Pallin

Age: 24

Shit, he was late, again. She was so going to kill him this time. His dark green eyes displayed a hint of worry as he dashed through the streets, heading towards a shortcut. Maybe he could still make it... The place he was hurrying to so bad was a "date". It wasn't really worth the name, though. The girl didn't interest him one bit! Still, he was forced to meet her anyway. As a thanks for helping with homework...

Curt saw a pile of trash in front of him, but decided he could jump over it - which he couldn't. Yes, he jumped, but just a little bit too close. He ended up face down in something that smelled like dirty diapers - no, those were dirty diapers. And from the pain, he could bet his nose was broken... Which time would this make? The fifth?

With a low groan, the raven slowly stood up, wiping off the literal shit off his face as much as he could. It seemed like his luck really was the worst. He sent out a text to his "date", then dialed a phone number he could tell even if he was woken up at three in the morning.

"Hey, doc, I think I broke my nose again. You mind if I pay a visit?" Curt asked, holding his nose so too much blood wouldn't drip on his clothes. He was so used to this, he didn't even panic anymore. If it was his leg, or arm, he would - but now, it was just his nose. He knew exactly how it would heal and that he'd be able to enjoy a conversation with the one doctor who still wasn't horribly tired of his stupid injuries.

With a smile and a soothing voice, the ash-brown haired doctor reassured the mother that her son who was having a high fever and bouts of diarrhoea that he would recover in two days tops before he would be running about again. She was worried that it might be some sort of severe illness she needed to be aware of but he told her it was nothing that bad. She thanked him and he nodded before showing her the way out.

In Dylan's busy community clinic, his patients who came to visit him range from those with common colds to patients with hypertension coming for their six-monthly check-ups. Everyday proved to be interesting to the man because each and every patient experienced their illnesses differently. Today was different however. He had a patient with parasitic disease who came to see him because the patient trusted him more than the doctors in the hospital. Unfortunately, Dylan had no medication for his illness in his small clinic and he was sent to the hospital for treatment.

A nurse knocked on his door and she brought in an elderly woman who greeted the doctor with enthusiasm. They took a seat before Dylan asked her, "What brings you here, Madam Pearson?"

"Oh, I took my last diabetic meds this morn' and I need supplies for the next six months," she told him with a laugh. He took out the blood glucose monitoring device and proceeded to prick her left middle finger to check her blood sugar level as he made small talk with her.

The machine beeped and he grinned, "Your blood sugar level is good. You have been taking your medications well."

The woman scoffed, "Of course I have. I haven't been taking bananas for long too."

The consultation ended with a thanks from the patient and Dylan hit the enter button to send the file over to his nurses so that they could prepare the elderly woman's tablets.

He slumped back into his chair only to have to get out of it when the phone rang. The doctor picked it up and looked at the caller ID and sighed. Curt, the one who always managed to hurt himself in the most impossible way that Dylan gave him his cell phone number just in case he might be in an emergency.

"Come on over and let me check on you. Who knows if you get a concussion as well." The last bit was laced with sarcasm but he was genuinely worried for the other man. It might looked unprofessional to the other if he was found to talk that way to his patient but Dylan could not help it because he and Curt are close. Much closer than close, actually.

"You wish. My skull is way too thick for that to happen, wasn't it you who said that?" Curt laughed, holding his nose tightly as he began walking towards the main street. He'd just catch a taxi - it was the easiest way to get to a hospital without freaking out too many people. "God, I'm really lucky to have you as a doctor, huh? This time, however, I think I might need a therapist too. Can you imagine I fell into shit?"

The raven complained as he motioned for a taxi to stop. Once he got into the car, he quickly told the driver to get him to a hospital before returning to the call. "Anyway, this town really should get cleaned up. I tried to jump over some trash, that's why I broke my nose this time! Still better than the last time, no?" Curt laughed, gasping out softly as he moved his hand too much.

Last time he broke his nose it was done by a toddler. He'd taken his niece's favorite toy and got hit in the face because of that... God knows how did the kid have enough strength to break his nose, but it happened. It was also embarrassing as hell. Having to explain to the caring, patient man how a three year old broke his nose was everything but fun.

The drive seemed awfully long. By the time he got to the hospital and paid the driver, Curt had begun to feel a little bit lightheaded. Heading into the big building, he was greeted by the always-cheerful nurse who already knew exactly where to take him. In less than a minute, he was already knocking on Dylan's door, his complexion a little bit paler than usual. And his favorite shirt was ruined, too... God, what a shame.

  • 2 weeks later...

The brown-haired male chuckled along Curt as the other laughed. He shook his head as he said, "I'm sure you do not need a therapist. A shower will do since you could still talk that way." Dylan hummed as he got out of his chair and started pulling out some cotton balls, a nasal tampon and a few other things from the cabinet next to the basin in his consultation room.

Listening to the other complain on the way to his clinic, he took a seat once more. A nurse poked her head in and mouthed, "is it okay to bring in the next patient?" He lifted the phone away from his ear and whispered back to her, "Curt." Her eyes went wide and her lips parted in an 'Oh'. She nodded and scurried back out of the room. The doctor placed the phone back next to his ear to give the other his attention.

It did not take long before another nurse of his was opening the door to his room and in came Dylan. He could hear a kid crying in the distance and a mother hushing her child to calm down before the door was closed behind his current patient. The doctor stretched out an arm for indicating Curt to take a seat so he could look at his nose. He noted the other's pale face and shirt matted with dirt and blood.

Like a mother hen, he fussed around his patient turned friend and guided the man to look at him so that he could inspect the obviously broken nose. "Think we need a mini surgery to push it back this time and correct whatever damage inside," he commented as he passed a wet cloth to Curt so that the other could wipe the blood away. Dylan took the nasal tampon out and waited for the dark-haired man to clean up.

Curt stepped inside the room he knew far too well by now. He offered the doctor a sheepish smile, raising his hand for a small wave. "Hey, doc." He grinned, letting the other take care of him in whatever way he felt needed. The greeting 'hey, doc' became so usual to him, he couldn't get himself to call Dylan in some other way. As the raven sat down, a nasal tampon was pushed into his nose, eliciting a soft groan from his mouth.

"What? Surgery?" The man sighed out heavily, taking the cloth to gently wipe off the blood off of his face. "I mean, are you sure?" He added hesitantly, beginning to bounce his leg; that was perhaps the most common sign of him being nervous. Hospitals he didn't mind, but surgeries scared the crap out of him. Even the easiest ones could go wrong and he could bleed out!

As he finished cleaning his face, Curt looked up at the other, a small frown on his face. "Isn't there some other way? Without a surgery? Or-or are you just messing with me?" Curt continued his questions, pursing his lips slightly. God, it felt like the whole goddamn world was spinning. The raven closed his eyes with a quiet sigh, reaching out to rub his forehead slightly. No, he most certainly didn't want a surgery, even if it was a "mini" one.

Curt was clearly going to have a panic attack seeing how he is reacting to what he just said. Dylan smiled a small one, trying to reassure the other that it would be alright.

"I'm afraid surgery will be the only way. You have broken your nose too many times and this time is worse than the last ones." He placed a comforting hand on Curt's lap and continued to speak.

"Don't worry, Curt. You're in good hands. I will make sure that the best ENT specialist will attend to you. He will put you to sleep. That way you don't have to worry about being awake and witnessing everything around you. After that, the nurses will be administering some painkillers to make sure you don't feel anything at all, okay? I'll make sure that you'll have the best care here. If you need me to, I'll come see you before the surgery and after as well to make sure that you're alright." Taking the other's smaller hands in his, he caressed the webbing between Curt's thumb and pointer as an act of comfort, to soothe the man's fear.

"You will be okay," he stressed out. Dylan waited for the other to calm down.

Curt took in a deep breath through his mouth, still slightly bouncing his leg as he listened. Okay, the way Dylan put it... Maybe it wouldn't be so bad after all? Still, he could die. Then again, he could die while using a toaster, too. As his hand was taken into the other's, a small smile pulled at his lips and he glanced up, nodding slightly. "Yeah, I'd like you to come." He admitted, knowing already that the man's presence itself was already soothing.

Without fully realizing it, he moved his hand a little bit to connect their hands as a grin stretched out across his face. "I can't believe you still put up with me." The man chuckled before letting go, soon realizing he already missed the touch. Dylan was someone he wanted to have in his life for however long he could. As a friend or something else, he didn't care too much about that. The most important thing was to just have him somewhere.

"Okay, when this is all done and I'm good to go, I want to invite you for dinner. Is that alright?" Curt asked as he smiled, reaching out to rub his forehead slightly. God, it still hurt...
