Is the Yaoi/Shonen Ai Genre in Terms of Animes dying?

Heya fellow Yaoi Fans!

I have started watching some Yaoi / Shonen Ai anime and got obsessed by them. (Maybe it's also important to remark that I am a Yaoi FanBOY, not a girl...) Now, I have watched a couple of Yaoi/Shonen Ai Animes and I'll list them down here: (can't guarantee that it is complete ^^)

● Junjou Romantica

● Sekaiichi Hatsukoi

● Kirepapa

● Gakuen Heaven

● Papa to Kiss in the Dark

● Haru wo Daiteta

● Winter Cicada

● Angel's Feather

● Koi Suru Boukun

● Okane Ga Nai

● Ikou no Romatan

● Hey Class President!

● Love Stage!!

● Gravitation

● Maiden Rose

● Uraboku

● Saint Beast

● Level C

● Close the last door

● Enzai

● Boku no Pico

Some Animes that I do not categorize as Yaoi/Shonen Ai:

● Yami no Matsuei

● No. 6

I am currently watching:

● Hybrid Child

● Monochrome Factor

So, now I finally want to address my point of the topic. Most of those Animes that I've seen/watched are quite old ones, most from the 90s to early 2000s. I don't have a problem with elder anime (like Gravitation which is an awesome yaoi!!!) But I am kind of scared that this genre might die because we haven't had many yaois in this year, only the movie from sekaiichi hatsukoi and hybrid child which both come from Shungiku Nakamura. So does that mean we just have one author who makes (awesome) yaois? Is this genre dead because there hasn't been much produced over the last couple of years? I just want to see more Yaois :) And by the way, do you have any recommendations for me to watch? :-)

Best regards

HolyStar1, I do agree that Yami no Matsuei, No. 6, Togainu no Chi have nothing to do with yaoi or shounen ai, though they are 'officially' included in.

Now, for sure no genre can die, be it movie, music or anime, but there has to be an equilibrium between their budget and the box office, so all animation studios, even distributors and producers, have to take into consideration the economic model of supply and demand. ;P

Hi (and welcome to YO),

I agree, it seems like the genre is going thru a difficult time.

One/two authors, no new trailers .

While I'd like to see more yaoi/shonenai realeases, the demand isn't high enough to justify spending cash on production and PR just because some of us want more. Bear in mind, there are far more Anime geeks/otakus in the West then there are in Japan- the industry is Japan-based and generally Japan-focused.

To your question, this year alone we've already had some great Anime' like:

'Yokozawa no Baai'

'Love Stage'

'Hybrid Child'

'Wild Adapter'

'Sekaiichi Hatsukoi: Valentine-hen'

We've heard JJ is coming back.

Then there are some VN's we can look out for, like "No thank you", which BTW will get an OVA adaptation.

Also, ther are fanservice shows like 'Free'.

Compare 2014 to the 2000+ past and you will notice, at least you should,

that 2014 has been a great year!

No, I don't think the genre is dying, I think it's how animators feel about animating something that is pretty much porn with plot. Take Love Stage!!, Sekaiichi Hatsukoi & Junjou Romantica, the manga is listed as yaoi, but the anime adaptation is listed as shounen ai and I think that's the problem many animation company faces when they turn a yaoi manga into a anime.

I love You're my Loveprize in Viewfinder, but come on that OVA was something, it wasn't even consider an anime. It was called something, can't remember ATM.
