Name: Hiro Tetsuma

Age: 17

Height: 177 cm

Eyes: Violet, slightly almond shaped.

Hair: Light brown / caramel brown, reaches almost down to his shoulders.

Appearance: anime_13.png

Personality: The young male could best be described as ‘that person everyone can like‘. He has a rich humor and somehow always manages to find himself in the spotlight whenever people are meeting (whether he‘d want that or not). Despite being somewhat the popular type, he is actually a bit on the silent side and can be a bit shy/awkward around others depending on the situation. But that has never stopped his ‘popular streak‘. Either that could be blamed on his good looks, or simply how charming he can be even without trying. He's a very honest person, which most find very refreshing.

Hiro is rather easy going about things, yet he doesn‘t approve of people fooling around with serious matters. That being said, he can be quite the nagger if he doesn‘t approve of someone‘s actions. Conflicts have always been something he dislikes greatly, and the male will always step up and into the middle of a fight in order to stop it. A few bruises or cuts have never mattered much to him just as long as he can reach people and let them see that it‘s foolish to try and resolve matters with the fists.

Hiro enjoys cooking and eating good food, and fluffy animals can always melt him. He enjoys the company of children, as he finds them much less complicated than grown ups. The male isn't very smooth when it comes to dating, and he has actually only once dated a girl.. yet that didn't go very far. Mostly because of his serious awkwardness (along with finding her rather scary when she was practically humping him), and also because the young male leads a very busy life with his various jobs. Often the male has found himself wondering if he's even that interested in females, yet he hasn't exactly dared let his mind stray in that 'other' direction ...

Bio: Hiro has mixed blood, his mother being Japanese whilst his father is an American. His father bailed on Hiro and his mother when the boy was but two years old. Shortly after that the unfortunate woman met another man whom she had three more children with, but he left the family also after drowning them in all sorts of debts. Hiro's mother now works two jobs yet barely has enough to feed herself and the children. As the oldest of the siblings, Hiro has always tried to gather money and means to help the family out.

Despite being a somewhat smart guy whom enjoys studying, Hiro dropped out of high school just about a year ago. The reason for that would of course be the poverty of his family and Hiro‘s wish to help his mother out so she wouldn‘t work herself to death. The young male works as hard as he can, often finding himself in the middle of very difficult construction work (which has provided the male with a killer body).

It seems that no matter how much Hiro works, he can never quite get enough money.. so now he desperately seeks a chance to provide for his family. Just how far is he willing to go in order to do that.. ?

"Home at last... I thought this shift would never end."

With a loud groan of both pleasure and exhaustion, the young teen let his tall frame sink deep into the cheap and beaten down couch which stood in the middle of the tiny room they liked to refer to as the 'living room'. Absent-mindedly Hiro plucked a random collection of books, clothes and (much to his dismay) dinner plates out from underneath the blanket which was underneath his bottom. It wasn't until he had just about found all the dirty laundry of the house and could soon open up a small library of his own that he found the remote control. Now the only question was if the TV would actually turn on. Such a tiny and crappy, old piece of shit like the television on the floor in front of Hiro was a disaster in the waiting. Truly, the young male waited each day that he would get a call from the fire department, where he'd be informed that his entire home along with his family had burned down because of a malfunctioning Demonic television. No matter how much he'd nag and grumble over this poor excuse of a TV, then his mother would hear nothing of it. Hiro was not allowed to use up any money to buy a new one ... and he knew for sure that his life would be over if he threw this one away and would be unable to provide for a new one right away. His younger siblings had little tolerance towards such decisions and actions.

So for now he sat there and glared at this small machine of death-in-the-waiting, as he pushed the ON button again and again. The black screen grinned mockingly back at the violet eyes of the male as his right eyebrow twitched with annoyance. Soon. Soon I will throw you out, you shitty sonuva-

"AND NEXT IN NEWS-"

Without any notice, the TV had turned itself on. And for some strange reason, the volume was up to the max; loud enough to cause Hiro to let out a rather unmanly shriek as he just about died from a heart attack whilst his hands fumbled with the remote control in order to lower the volume so that his head would stop ringing. The poor couch groaned out with dismay at the sudden jump of the rather sturdy body of the 5'10" tall male.

"LOLA!"

The snickering of the 8 year old girl could be heard very clearly from the bedroom. Soon after there was the unmistakable giggles of a young boy and another girl whom was just done entering the teenage life.

"Alright that's it, you are all done for."

With a swift movement, Hiro jumped from the couch and stormed into the bedroom. A fierce scowl was etched into his ridiculously handsome features as he ripped open the door and bellowed out with fake rage. His siblings scattered in all directions as if a firecracker had been thrown into the room. They all hiccuped with laughter and excitement, as they knew that their brother would never in his entire life time actually be angry at them. Fights such as these usually ended up in a mad tickling war. Hiro's violet orbs caught sight of a foot sticking out from underneath a mattress, and with a loud snarl he bent down and grabbed onto his sister Lola and dragged her out onto the floor before attacking her with some tickling. The petite girl with black hair and almost equally black eyes cried out for mercy as she rolled around and burst out into a laughing fit. Hiro's eyes scanned the room again, and with a leap that'd make any cat proud, he moved from his current position and crashed down onto the bed that his mother and sisters shared. With a fumbling movement, he dragged both his 14 year old sister Hina and his 6 year old brother Shouji from underneath the blanket. Without taking any heed to their cries and laughter, the oldest of four siblings tickled the other two until both of them called for a truce. Only then did Hiro himself sit back and chuckle as he looked lovingly over the little group of three that had crawled to him.

His eyebrows were drawn together in a frown on his forehead as the male looked again over the room. It was truly a sad sight. A single bed that would have been just about big enough for two persons had both of his sisters and his mother staying there. He himself and his little brother shared a small mattress on the floor. Right outside of the bedroom was the tiny living room with the old couch and that devilish TV, and right at the side of that was a kitchen big enough for two people, and a closet that was supposed to be a bathroom. The laughter soon stopped and three pairs of dark eyes watched with worry as the oldest of them, and the hero of the three other, sat there with a distant look on his handsome face and that familiar frown of worry creasing his smooth skin.

"Onii-san don't worry so much. We like it here."

His violet eyes settled onto the cute little sister which was now mimicking his own facial expression. With a soft sigh and a gentle smile, he gave each of them a pat on the head before he'd stand up and make his way back into the living room. Hiro knew he shouldn't look like that in front of them. It never did anyone good to be worrying too much, and he wanted his siblings to keep smiling and to not have any worries of their own. Again, the male sighed as if the entire world was sitting upon his shoulders, before he plopped himself down onto the couch and picked up the remote control once again in order to get some volume up. The news seemed to be over, but now there was something else going on. A weird new commercial or so it would seem. A skimpish looking young female was standing at the center of a stage, and behind her was a large photo of ... well it looked like the space? With growing curiosity, Hiro sat at the edge of the couch and fought with the remote control in order to get some volume going.

"...and this is where the shuttle will be landing! If you all look behind me you will see the beautiful images of the planet in question where the competitors will be going! This trip will be exciting both for those going there, as for those who sit at home!"

"What the heck is she talking about ...?"

For a few more minutes he kept watching something that seemed to make no sense, but then just when he thought everything was over, the female plastered on another smile.

"And for those who were a bit late with turning the TV on, let me repeat what I just said! The government has provided us with a wonderful entertainment, along with the chance of one person winning a jackpot of 100,000,000.00 yen.." at this point Hiro almost fell off the couch, and his mouth fell wide open. "Let me explain the rules again! A group of 20 competitors which will be highschoolers will be hand picked by our specialists. This group will be flying out into space and to a planet we have recently discovered!" The woman pointed up on a large map which was projected onto the wall behind her. "After the shuttle has landed, these individuals will have to start fighting for their survival! Each person will get a backpack with all sorts of necessities that will come in handy, and they will also get a map of the territories we have looked at so far! Exciting, right? The catch is, only one person can return back to earth and that person will have to be done mapping out new territories for us to explore as well! Now don't get scared, there's no need for anyone to really die right? Maybe some people will just agree to staying up there?"

A cold shiver ran down Hiro's back at the casual wording of such a horrible thing. Yet, he could not stop thinking about the sum of money. Could he? Could he really apply for this? "Don't forget, that the entire time you are up there you will be watched by us and the entire world! There are cameras that will be following you all just in order to make sure that things are going smoothly! After all, we wouldn't want anyone to cheat and try to get home early, right?" The woman winked at the screen before she continued talking in that high toned, cheerful voice which was creeping the shit out of Hiro.

"Tomorrow we ask all those who wish to participate to come to the courthouse where you will sign up and then after a week's time we will contact those that will be going! Minna-san, I wish you all good luck! See you tomorrow!"

And just like that, the commercial was over. Some other program started shortly after, but Hiro only sat there with a dumbfound expression. What a ... cruel game that the government had come up with. What a horrible, horrible thing to do. Yet... if he had all that money.... His fist clenched around the remote control. He could do so many good things with all that money. His mother would never have to work again. He could send his siblings to school. He could even finish studying also...... Hiro swallowed hard as he shook his head slowly. I can't possibly... Yet he knew already that he would be going there the day after. As soon as the hard knot had formed in his stomach when the commercial was over, then Hiro knew that his mind had already decided for him. There was nothing else to it. This was his chance of making things right.

Name: Michi Tsukino

Age: 19

Height: Last Measured at 5'4 (Middle School Physical Test)

Eyes: Dark Brown

Hair: Jet-black

Personality: Michi has always been compared to a cat. His free nature and rooming spirt never allow the young man to stay in one place for too long. Though even with his outgoing, free nature Michi has always been on the quiet side, enjoying listen to other’s talk then speak himself. Michi has never minded being spoken for, but even with his placid outwards attitude and soft spoken nature – Michi is always observing. His mind frame making him see those around him as mere puzzles that need to be solved then individuals. His lack of remorse or empathy make him come across heartless and cruel when he flippantly talks of things like murder and rape as if talking about an interesting TV show he watched last night.

Bio: Michi has always – since he had his first aware thought – loved to see how people reacted to different things. The good reactions and especially the bad making Michi see his follow humans as more of “interesting toys” then living breathing beings. His twisted view having started with the first words Michi remembers hearing his mother say: I didn’t want you, but you tie him to me. It was those words that catapulted Michi into his love of observing others.

Though some might count the household he grow up in as unloving and harsh since his mother never actively took care of him and his father never showed his face – Michi had always found the self- independent way of living freeing.

Coming and going from his home as he pleased – much like a cat – Michi never had any real education since without his mother’s or father’s nagging he saw no need to go; only making it through his first year of Middle School before dropping out completely. Michi spends most of his days how like he spend in his younger days: shacking up with different men and women, trading his body for food and a warm place to sleep. Considered by his many lovers as a cute street cat they sometimes take in to feed and clothe, Michi has no noticeable ties to anyone or anything and goes wherever he sees fit; as long as he can chart his interesting toys reactions he doesn’t care where he ends up really.

The only sounds in the dark room were the low hum of the steadily working air-conditioner and the quiet loll of infomercials playing on the hotel room’s television – the soft glow from the TV the only light in the room besides the gentle glow of light shining out into the room from the slightly cracked bathroom door. A man wearing a white fuzzy robe stood in the bathroom – his hands working a comb through dripping hair, the sliver locks staying firmly in the man’s head no matter how roughly he ran the plastic through his graying hair.

Watching happily as his hair stood steadily against the consent strain, the older man let out a vigorous chuckle. “I told you I didn’t need that mens balding gel, brat! The only reason any hair fell out at all was because you were pulling so damn hard, Michi.”

A noise like someone yawing as they stretched entered through the crack in the door from the other room, the young voice that followed the yawn sounding satisfied and slightly loopy like the speaker was seconds away from falling asleep;

“All I did was run my hand through your hair, it’s not my fault you’re going bold. Don’t run away from reality, old man.” Sighing at the younger’s crude teasing; the grey haired man let the comb stop in its steady path and removed it from his hair, placing it on the corner, he turned to leave the bathroom – making sure to ignore the shower (the see through glass sliding door making seeing all the grey hair stuck in the drain much too easy).

Flicking off the light as he exited the room, the old man flushed the main room into a darker state, and stalked towards the bed – the figure on the bed was just a bundle of covers with a black turf of hair sticking out; bringing his large hand down onto the exposed head of the other – the older man continued onto the dresser, taking out a white bottom down and a black pair of slacks and some silk boxers.

“Checkouts at 10:30 – I’ll leave my card on the dresser if you want to stay another night though, just charge it. Be thankful.” The bundle that was Michi simply hummed deep in his throat and told the other to pass him the remote, which the grey haired man did after he had secured his slacks with a black belt and slipped on his silk socks.

Sticking one of his arms out of his cocoon to get the remote, Michi just held his hand in the air until he felt the weight of the device in his hand. Rearranging himself so one eye was sticking out of the bundle, the teen started flicking through the channels watching the man slip on his shoes out the corner of his eye – the skimpish looking young female who had appeared on the channel he stopped on and the spacey background of the commercial not really registering to Michi.

“Tell your wife hi, and kiss Haru goodnight for me.” Michi had said the words with no bitterness or rage about playing the role of the mistress to a man with a family, the teen had said them to see if the causal mention of the older male’s family would make him sweat. Sadly, with the way the now fully dressed man just smiled at him from his place standing with his hand on the door knob and just as casually said back;

“I will,” the provoking didn’t seem to work. Feeling too lazy to stick his tongue out at the other or say something else – Michi turned his head back to the TV just in time to catch the ending of the commercial:

"And for those who were a bit late with turning the TV on, let me repeat what I just said! The government has provided us with a wonderful entertainment, along with the chance of one person winning a jackpot of 100,000,000.00 yen.. Let me explain the rules again!

Michi add no real reaction to sound of the door being slammed shut behind the silvered headed man as he left or the shocking sound of the commercial’s promise…though –

"Tomorrow we ask all those who wish to participate to come to the courthouse where you will sign up and then after a week's time we will contact those that will be going! Minna-san, I wish you all good luck! See you tomorrow!"

– If he went down there tomorrow he would have something to do with his day, and if it wasn’t a total lie; maybe he would get some fun out of it, and the 100,000,000.00 prize didn’t sound that bad either.

A loud, very high-pitched sound woke him up. It felt like his head was imploding from the inside out. Everything was dark around Hiro, and it wasn't until after a good few minutes that he realized that his eyes were still shut. A soft whimper escaped the male as he tried with much difficulties to open his eyes in order to scan the surroundings. At this point in the process, it was obvious that the ringing was inside of his own ears. He knew he was laying on his back on what felt like the ground, and there was something sticky against the skin of his face. The young teen's heart was racing as he struggled to remember just what was going on. It felt as if nothing could be more tasking than this simple act of letting the muscles pull up the eyelids so that he could finally see what was happening. Finally he succeeded, yet for a second or two wished he hadn't, for the brightness of the surroundings caused Hiro to cry out as he swiftly brought his hand up in front of his face. It took a good few minutes until he felt brave enough to lower the hand, and the violet orbs peered with obvious pain up towards the sky. Funny ... the sky seemed to be a bit different than usually. Hiro wasn't sure why, but he thought there was more green to the color rather than bright blue. Slowly, painfully slowly, he sat up and blinked before looking to the sides and in front of him.

A forest?

His head started pounding again like there was a dancing competition happening inside of his skull. Ugh.. The teen stared hard at the trees which surrounded him, but it was a bit difficult to believe what he was seeing. Instead of the normal, brown tree trunks and the green leaves... he was staring at what seemed like purple trees with dark purple leaves. That sight caused Hiro to wonder if perhaps this was just a dream. Yet, the pressing headache told the male he should be done waking up by now if this was indeed a dream. Still somewhat dazed, he started struggling to get up as his ears started registering the various sounds of the jungle life which was around him. Loud screeching and screaming, rustling of leaves and grass, heavy thumping of large feet.

Why the heck was he inside of a forest???

"J-just what's going on..."

It took many long and painful minutes before the male was up on his feet. For a moment the world went black again as the feeling of dizziness took over everything. Hiro grunted as he took a few disoriented steps forward, until he felt a warm tree trunk right underneath his palm. At that point in this process, he had come to realize the hard way that his head seemed to be in an utter mess as he had already realized that one side of it was caked with dried blood, his ankle was throbbing like it had been twisted badly, his ribs stung but not badly enough to rob him of his breath, and his rear end and back seemed to also be very sore. Just like he had fallen from one of those trees... Hiro shook his head gently in order to try and make his thinking process a bit clearer. Of course the only thing he got from shaking his head was a spell of teeth-gritting pain. Gingerly, the male pressed his sore back against the tree trunk as he once again looked around. This was just ... ridiculous. Everything looked like it was fresh out of a movie studio... so maybe that was it? Someone was playing a prank on him... Yes that must be it. He had been kidnapped, beaten up, and brought to a movie studio in order to scare the shit out of him. It's a bit of a long stretch .. but..

"Hello?"

His deep voice was a bit hesitant, a little shaky even, which caused Hiro to snort angrily at himself. Was he really going to be playing along with this stupid game and let them see he was a bit uneasy?

"Hello!? Anyone there? This isn't funny you know."

Hiro was very pleased when his voice was much stronger the second time. He'd let these individuals know just who they were dealing with, and soon enough he'd be out of there. Yet, there was still this unnerving feeling at the pit of his stomach which caused his heart to keep racing, and it felt like there was something nagging at his mind .. like he was supposed to remember something important? The male groaned as he pushed himself away from the strange tree. He was sure that 20 minutes had already passed, and the dizziness was already retreating from his mind. Even if it hurt, he could walk around and at least try and find the exit himself instead of waiting for whomever thought they were so funny to let him out. However, just as Hiro started walking, he automatically looked up into one of the trees; and the teen froze in his tracks. His violet eyes were opened wide as his mouth formed a small 'o'. Right there up in that tree was a seat. Not a plane seat, but ...

"Oh shit."

Like angry waves, the memories crashed against his mind, causing Hiro to yell out with the pain and surprise. He remembered now! Everything! This stupid game of survival! He had gone there to sign up about a month ago, then he had been (surprisingly to be honest) contacted by these people, and that was when the whole process started. They had been interviewed and prepared for the whole thing, and then... then they had been shot up into space.

"But.. but why.."

His facial features were frozen in a rather dumbfound expression as Hiro tried to remember more. When they had been nearing the destination, someone had started screaming. There had been smoke, fire, more screams.. and then a loud cracking sound. Hiro's eyes closed as he struggled to draw back the memory of what had happened. Had the shuttle cracked open? Was that why he found himself laying here, and his seat up there in a tree? That must be it.. but what the fuck happened? The thought had barely even entered his mind before Hiro went cold with terror. He was only wearing the thin clothes he was supposed to wear underneath the space suit. Grey pants and a sweater of the same fabric and color which clung to his muscly yet lean form. At that moment he also realized that he wasn't even wearing his helmet or oxygen tanks. His breathing stopped as he paled from fright. Why was he still alive? Were there perhaps poisonous fumes done entering his lungs by now and after a few minutes he'd find peace in a painful death? Cold sweat appeared on his forehead whilst his lungs started screaming for air again. Well, it's not like I can hold my breath all day here, and the damage should be done already anyway.

A shaky breath was drawn, then another one. It didn't really feel like his lungs were straining too much or that they were filled up with poison. So, they seemed to have landed on a planet that supported human life. Well that was a relief in itself. A nervous giggle erupted from the confused, scared and bewildered male. What he should do now was to try and find the shuttle, find more people, and get the heck away from there. Surely the superiors had seen everything already and had sent an extra shuttle. I should go check if there is anyone else wounded. As per usual, it was always a good distraction for Hiro to think about someone else than himself. So the male made a rather primal looking staff from a branch, before he started limping/walking in a random direction.

"Hello! Anyone out there?"

He could only hope that he wasn't the only one alive on this God forsaken place.

The room was enclosed in a thin veil of smoke – Michi’s exhales each adding more toxic vapors to the surrounding area, the white stick pressed lazily to his lips the cause of the other two room inhabitants discomfort. This was his fourth, the female sitting on the other side of the table and the man standing a little ways behind her with a camera obstructing most of his view both noted mournfully. The smell almost unbearable as Michi flicked more ashes into the overflowing ashtray and exhaled once more; the female before him covering her mouth and nose with the raising of a slender hand – her other hand to busy scribbling neat words onto the paper resting on the table in front of her to be used as a barrier.

“You’re 19,” the women noted aloud pausing in her scribbling, both her and the camera man seeming to raise an eyebrow in unison as they glanced at the nineteen year old before them. Regarding the two with a leaden gaze, Michi wrapped his full lips around the stick held snuggling between his fingers, a heavy drag being drawled from the cigarette – withholding the toxin in his lungs for a second before exhaling in the women’s direction, Michi’s voice was dull as he responded to their inquisitiveness;

“I started late.” Accepting the new information, the woman wrote something down quickly on the paper before resuming her questions.

“Institute?” Michi assumed she was asking what school he was going to, his lack of a name to provide the other doing little to make the male uneasy – throwing a slight smile to the camera, Michi answered just as impassive as when he cleared up the fuss about his age. “It’s a private school, a very renowned one, a school that’s very strict in their rules about,” Rolling his eyes casually here, Michi lied freely through his teeth. “-extracurricular activities.” Getting the hint the women moved on smoothly – attractive and quick witted, Michi observed lightly, how…dangerous.

“How’s your health?” Michi almost snorted as the women asked further questions he regarded as dreadfully boring. “Fit as a fiddle.” The old phrasing being the first thing to come to mind slipped through Michi’s lips effortlessly as the women wrote down his reply.

“How do you feel about death?” Ah, now we’re getting somewhere. “The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.” Mitchi quoted easily. “Mark Twain said it best didn’t he?” The breezy reply was written down, and as the women paused once more – seeming to debate something silently in her head as she read the next question written down on the form – her voice hold a more a cautioning nature once she gathered enough wit to speak once more;

“And if you were to die?” The smile on his face felt alien, the air surrounding the duo tense with a certain unnamable tension that seemed to effect the cameraman the most as sweat poured down his brow in buckets – his partner usually skipped this question, the cameraman noted in his mind – her want to keep as many people interested in the game as possible her reassuring for withholding number 32 on the questionnaire form; making him wonder why she would suddenly blurt it out to this one.

“Weather wise, which do you think is better: heaven or hell?” The women gave no verbal response as she wrote his words down again, and Michi figured they both knew the correct answer somewhere deep down inside anyway.

*+*+*+*

It felt like he was waking from a dream – the scene that had taken place a month ago running through his head with such astonishingly clarity, like he had really been living in that moment, only furthering Michi’s thought that he was awaking from a dream. Running his tongue over his teeth, and swallowing thickly to try and get the strange taste from his mouth, like sawdust and soot stained the inside of his mouth; everything came to Michi’s hazy mind in a delayed fashion – everything registering slowly at first to the male then startlingly fast as his senses made room for a new observations, the first thing to cross his mind: pain.

It had built up slowly at first – like he had been trapped underwater and everything had to fight its way through the murky ocean just to reach where he resided on the watery floor, making the throbbing in his side seem like just a little sting at first. Maybe he had been bitten by some bug during his sleep; it was the first explanation to cross his waterlogged mind as he tried to figure out what the foreign pain that had suddenly appeared on his person was, but as he woke up more the small sting turned into raw, burning, excruciating agony, and Mitch knew it wasn’t just some bug bite.

The next thing registering in his mind the flat surface that wasn’t anything like the comfy bed he had been snuggled up in yesterday night– in fact, it felt like he was lying on the ground – the earthy smell of grass and dirt hitting him thirdly. Trying to lift his head that was uncomfortably stiff, the beginnings of a pounding headache raging painfully between his ears, Michi glanced down towards his throbbing leg – the simple glance taking a shockingly amount of effort ; though the real shock was seeing a piece of shrapnel sticking out of his thigh, straight through his femur.

Suddenly wide awake, Michi dug his fingers into ground under his fingertips harshly and almost as if just getting how much pain he was in, threw his head back with a fierce scream tearing through his mouth – the last thing registering through his pain filled mind the green sky staring down at him from above as his head recoiled harshly with the solid ground beneath him promptly forcing him to blackout from the harmful damage to his skull. Managing to rasp out a few haggard words before he feel into complete darkness, Michi’s voice was soaked in confused, mind-numbing agony;

“where..th-the hell…a-am I?”

  • 1 month later...

A slight grimace crossed his features each time Hiro stepped down, despite the support from the branch he had picked out. Truly it wasn't -that- bad, but he had always disliked physical pain such as this one. Especially was it unnerving when you had no idea just how bad the injuries were, even if Hiro was pretty sure that nothing was broken. His tongue was sticking to his gums, reminding the poor teen of just how thirsty he was. Everything would feel so much better if only he'd find some water. Then his queasy stomach would probably settle down and the sharp headaches could possibly get better as well. Now the only problem was, where the heck was he going to get water around here?

I must find the shuttle. Surely it should be around here somewhere. They have emergency food and water.

Hiro desperately clung to the idea that perhaps there were more people alive as well, since he was convinced he'd freak out the moment he would actually stop and think about the low possibility that anyone else could have survived a crash like that.

"Hello?"

His voice was getting a bit weaker, more timid, as the silence and loneliness came crashing back towards him. The male stopped moving, bit down onto his lower lip, before inhaling deeply in order to control his slightly shaky limbs. It's okay. It will be okay.

"He-hello?"

His back stiffened. Had he really just heard a female voice not too far away?

"Hello?! Is someone there?"

He started limping at a fast pace towards the direction of the voice, not caring one bit that his ankle was protesting loudly along with his head. Just as Hiro moved, he heard footsteps of another person, and a soft sobbing followed as they travelled closer to his location.

"Please, please help me! I can't deal with this! I don't know what's going on!"

Out through a thick bush came a woman stumbling, just a few feet away from Hiro. Both of them stood still, staring at each other for a few tense seconds. This woman was a good few inches shorter than Hiro, and she looked to be perhaps two years older than him or so. Her tanned skin was painted with dirt, but there was no denying the fact that she was a beauty. She was petite, yet curvy in just the right places. Her hair, which was now tangled and dirty, was midnight black and long enough to reach a bit past her waist. Those large, almond shaped eyes which stared in disbelief and fear at Hiro were of a sapphire blue colour. A small tremble seemed to run through her body, before the distance was closed between the two humans. With a loud sob she had jumped at Hiro and clung to him, her nails digging into his back while she pressed her face against his chest.

"I- ah- uh-."

The tips of his ears turned a bit red as Hiro stared dumbfounded down at her head as it pressed so hard against him, he actually wondered if she was trying to slip into his body.

"I'm so happy I'm not alone. This has been a nightmare!"

Her wailing voice was muffled against Hiro's chest, and he couldn't help but smiling gently. She sort of reminded him of his whiny siblings. A reassuring hand patted her head lightly, before Hiro took her shoulders gently and pulled her away from him.

"Are you hurt somewhere?"

Those clear blue eyes blinked away a few large tears, before the woman shook her head.

"N-no. I think I'm just bruised."

"Well that's good. We should try to find others, and also try to find where the shuttle is. We really need to drink and eat before we get sick."

Her lips trembled a bit, but she nodded silently and grabbed a hold of his hand. It was safe to say that this was awkward as heck for Hiro, but he didn't say anything due to the circumstances. He was also happy to have found a fellow human to lean onto and talk to. They walked together in silence, neither having anything to say at this point, but she kept holding onto his hand like it was the last thing that could keep her alive.

"Uh I'm Hiro by the way. What's your name?"

"Mana.."

Her whispered voice was difficult to hear, but he nodded and smiled a bit. This was some progress. Perhaps if he got her talking more, she'd calm a bit down. However, just as he parted his lips again to keep talking to Mana, a piercing scream split the air. Mana shrieked and jumped closer to Hiro, causing him to lose his balance and toppling over. Down they fell, she landing on top of him as he grit his teeth and hissed out with pain as the headache and dull pain in the ankle seemed to spike up for a few seconds. They lay completely still, not moving a muscle, listening and trying to find out where that scream had come from. Neither dared say anything, they hardly even breathed. If someone is hurt, we must help out. Hiro started getting up, and gathering up Mana's light form as he did so.

"We have to go check this out."

The female's eyes grew huge in her pretty face.

"B-but it might be dangerous."

"It's another human being in trouble. We are obligated to help out."

A small feeling of annoyance crossed his mind as Hiro started walking in the direction of where he thought the scream had come from. Soon after he heard light footsteps following him, and a wry smile crossed his lips. Did she follow because she wanted to help, or because she didn't want to be left alone? Don't be mean Hiro, she's just scared. A soft sigh crossed his lips as he limped faster, worried he might be too late at the scene of the screaming. Who knew what could be happening in this strange place? A few minutes passed by before Hiro stopped and stared down at the ground. There seemed to be the source of the screaming, although the person didn't look awake. Laying there limp with his eyes closed, was a male around Hiro's own age. Pitch black hair, rather shorter than Hiro, seemingly rather pretty for a guy. A small curse escaped Hiro as he spied the shrapnel which was sticking out of the guy's thigh.

What to do in a situation like this? If I pull it out, he could die from a blood loss. If I don't pull it out then I can hardly move him, plus he might get an infection.

Hiro ignored the startled gasp of Mana as she arrived at the scene, but rather limped closer to the male and knelt down. His fingers gently touched the other male's throat while Hiro searched for a pulse. Relief washed over him as he found a strong heartbeat underneath his fingertips. Yet he was still debating with himself over what to do.

"Hey."

He gently tapped his palm against the other male's cheek, trying to see if there would be a response. Hiro thought he would have to pick this other male up and carry him towards where the shuttle hopefully was. Only there, where there would hopefully be more help and a medical kit, would he be able to remove the shrapnel and treat the wound so that this black haired male wouldn't bleed out on the spot. Yet Hiro didn't dare just pick up the male, since there was always the possibility that he could wake up and start fighting around and only injure both of them more. So he needed to wake him up and have a word or two, no matter if he felt guilty for doing so as that would only expose this other male to more pain if he was woken up.

"Hey, I need you to wake up."

His voice was low and gentle as he brushed his hand across the soft skin of the other male's face.

Oddly enough it wasn’t his life that passed before his eyes as his brain sunk farther into pain – it was a memory. Just one so blindingly clear it almost felt like he was there again. Sitting idly at a table, he watched numbly from above as a younger version of him colored aimlessly on a piece of paper, the strokes were messy and sloppy making the stick people look more like giant blurs than anything else. Yet, there was a happy grin on his young face as he colored vigorously, legs swinging back and forth excitedly under the table.

“I wonder if mama will like it!” The child hummed happily, his smile growing wider as he heard the tale tell signs of a jingling doorknob down the hallway. Giving his picture another once over the child added a smiley face to the yellow sun and hurriedly pushed his chair away from the table. Jumping neatly to the floor the child gripped his paper and ran to the door just as it was opening, a women with the same ebony hair as Michis’ appearing from the recently opened door. Young Michi’s face lit up happily, his eyes sparking as he took in the haggard women wearing a tight red dress, the black heels on her feet slipped off hastily as the women rushed into the house after closing the door – Michi hot on her heels.

“Mama! Mama Look!” The woman didn’t turn at the child’s voice, her steady pace only speeding as she reached the kitchen; her feet carrying her to the white phone hanging on the wall. Michi followed as fast as his stubby legs would allow him, the image much like a baby duck wobbling behind its mother.

“Mama!” Young Michi’s voice took on a more unguent note as the women progressively ignored him and dialed a number into the phone heatedly. “Mama?” There was still no reaction from the woman, just silence. Michi’s face pitched into a frown and tears started to gather in his eyes, his lip furrowing as he held the picture in front of him – a weak smile pulling at the corner of his lips. “M-mama it’s me and you. Look.” The picture certainly was of two people holding hands smiling brightly just like the sun and giant flowers in the picture were, and even though most of the artwork was hard to make out the love put into the picture was almost tangible. “The teacher wanted us to draw something that we wanted to happen, so I draw us spending time together! Be-because you…you’re not ewver really home, and I just wanna spen –” Before the boy could finish stuttering over his hesitant words, the black hair woman twisted around an ugly sneer on her face; “Look you little shit, I – ey, I need you to wake up."

Michi’s mind wrenched violently as the memory started to twist, blurring around the edges and fading back into his mind’s recesses – the battle between blacking out completely and staying conscious being decided for the teen as he felt a soft warmth on his check so different from the agonizing burn immersing his throbbing body that it was hard not to notice.

His eyes fluttered. Michi’s vision fuzzy and blurred making the face peering down at his own appear distorted (a nose were eyes should be, and eyes were Michi slowly remembered there should be a mouth). Blinking to try and do away with the weird vision, Michi could barely contain a strangled scream from ripping through his throat – his mind once again trying to drag him back into darkness to combat the pain. Digging his fingers deeper into earth, Michi barley pushed the next words through his mouth before his mind was fading again, sinking into excruciating nothingness;

S-sorry. W..wanted you to s-see it…sorry,

For a short moment, dark brown eyes opened and looked up into Hiro’s face. He felt glad that the other male woke up – but he also felt worried at how pale and disoriented he looked. This wakefulness didn’t really last either, and after having muttered some words that Hiro barely managed to hear – the other male was out again. Shit. Fuck. Shit. He truly wasn’t used to cursing a lot. Not even within his mind. Butthis situation was fucked. This was only something Hiro would have imagined happened in bad TV-shows. Desperately he tried to recall whatever little training he had had in first aid – but his mind drew a blank. Obviously the head injuries and overall stress were majorly affecting his way of thinking. It didn’t help that an occasional sob from Mana distracted him. Well I have to do something. I have nothing here to help this young man. I must try to find the shuttle, get us into a shelter and find food and water. And then I can worry about his injuries.

Hiro bit his lower lip and sent a silent prayer to whomever would wish to listen, before he slowly and carefully gathered the smaller male into his arms before standing up. It wasn’t too heavy of a burden, seeing as Hiro was rather strong, but his head felt like it had been kicked and his ankle protested by almost causing his leg to buckle underneath him. The young male however, ground his teeth together, and with a hiss he told Mana to follow him. She stood up silently, wiped at her eyes, and followed obediently. Step by painful step, they walked in a random direction. If they were going the wrong way – they’d all probably get killed. If not from their injuries then by whatever creatures that might inhabit ate this planet. Each crack and each rustling sound caused Hiro to almost jump out of his skin as he forced his protesting body to move faster.

It felt like ages, but they had probably only been moving for about 10 minutes when Hiro felt a hint of smoke in the air. “Come on, we might be closing in on something.” Mana had been dragging a little bit behind, but upon hearing that, instantly moved to his side. Her large eyes scanned the surroundings swiftly before she looked curiously at the man in his arms. “Isn’t he heavy?” “I’ll manage.” His answer was a lie that was grit through his teeth, since surely he was ready to give up at any given moment. They reached a clearing and stepped out onto a flat field of sorts, and stopped there dead in their tracks. There was a large part of the shuttle. Upon investigating it, it seemed like it had snapped in two halves. A shudder went through Hiro. It was amazing that he was alive, or anyone for that matter.

“Hey, survivors!”

The male voice caused him to look to the side and see three males approaching them. Two seemed to be around his own age, one seemed to be a little bit younger. His first reaction was relief. Then, he felt a small chill course over his body as he remembered the conditions of the staying up here. ‘Only one would come back to earth’. Just what kind of people had signed up for this journey? Would he have to expect trouble? But what could he really do about that right now? He needed help, the man in his arms needed help as well. All three of the males looked a bit ragged. Bruised and bloodied, but not seriously injured.

“Hello there. We… we need some help.”

Mana stepped forward and smiled hesitantly at the young males, and two of them in return looked at her with obvious admiration – whilst the tallest one seemed to only look at Hiro and the one he held in his arms. This tall male had black hair and equally black eyes, and crooked glasses hanging onto his nose. Looking at him from a male’s point of view, Hiro came to the conclusion that he was very handsome and had a strong looking form. He was a bit taller even than Hiro and seemed for some strange reason to give off a ‘leader’ feeling. A swift glance towards Mana confirmed that she agreed with that, as she was basically ogling the other male.

“Here, let me help you.”

The tall male stepped forward and took the unconscious body from Hiro’s arms. Only then did he feel how shaky he really was.

“My name is Hiro. This is Mana.”

“I’m Shin. Those two are Akira and Junbo.”

The youngest looking one, Akira – a bit dorky but cutesy looking, nodded his head but Junbo, a slightly chubby guy with brown eyes kept looking at Mana.

“Do you have something to drink? I also need to help him out. That needs to be removed I think. He could get an infection.”

“Yes, let’s go into the shuttle wreck. We have some things in there.”

Upon entering, Mana and he finally got some much needed water, and Hiro got a new sweater, – before Hiro and Shin started to take care of the patient. They had finally found a first aid kit, by sheer luck, and now they pulled the shrapnel out and tied as well as they could around the wound. Then they made a comfortable place to put the young male, before they’d sit down and wait. Nobody really knew what they should say at this point. They were all pretty shaken up still and nobody felt quite capable of comforting the other.

Something damp and coarse was touching him. The steady poking making Michi’s brow crinkle – the persistent action enough to make his eyes flutter. It was a slow process: Michi’s awaking. But the more he fought the haziness weighing him down, the more the teen’s eyes struggled to open. When Michi was finally conscious enough to keep his lids open: everything was blurry. Mere outlines and fuzzy shapes, but as he gained his bearings Michi realized something was leaning over him.

Alarmed, a startled groan pushed past his lips before he was jerking away. The sudden movement a bad idea as white-hot pain shot up Michi’s leg, and suddenly the male was drowning in his forgotten pain. “Shh,” A voice seemed to be beckoning from the darkness and Michi wrenched the eyes that had clenched shut at the pain open as he gazed into the face of a frowning woman. Somewhere he registered the towel in her mahogany hand as what roused him from his slumber, but logical thought was so far from his mind the only thing he could do was stare.

The woman, his supposed savior seemed to understand he was in too much pain to speak, but desperately wanted answers.

“I’m Ai,” her voice was soft and timid. “You’re safe.” Safe? Michi wanted to laugh. What did the girl that seemed to ooze fragileness know about safety?

Undisturbed by Michi’s mocking eyes, Ai smiled slightly. “Everyone was so worried. When they brought you here…you were so pale…I – I thought you were going to die…and the way you screamed when they pulled that chunk of metal out,” Ai shuttered, a pain looked crossing her face as she clutched the damp towel tightly in her hand. “I thought you’d die simply from them removing it,” Ai struggled to continue, a faraway look coming over her mind. “There was so much blood.” Listening to Ai recount his sorry state Michi could almost see it. Him battered and bloody, buckling against the hands that tried to restrain him as they clutched the shrapnel, ‘one, two, three’ someone would call before they gave a mighty yank. And he would feel it leaving his body – taste the iron in his mouth as he struggled not to bite off his tongue, would scream: loud and piercing.

Ai seemed to be crying and Michi would have smiled if the pain weren’t forcing him to grimace. Ai seemed overemotional – weak, easily to convince, and quick to follow.

“If Shin hadn’t told me to buck-up…well, I don’t know what I would’ve down!” Was that a hint of hero-worship in her voice? Michi watched the way Ai sighed happily and pressed her hands to her chest, as if she was trying to hold back the admiration she felt for this Shin person. “But really,” Ai spoke quickly after pulling herself together. “It’s the guy who carried you here that did the hard part.” Ai turned and pointed to a group of people sitting a little bit away from them. There was one male in question she was specifically trying to point out, but all Michi could see of him was caramel brown tresses that almost reached down to his shoulders.

My savior, huh?

Ai turned back to Michi after staring at the figure with black hair wistfully. “I-is there anything I could get you?” Michi saw the blush staining her checks and knew her question was meant as a distraction, so Michi decided to let her get away with it – decided to spare her the embarrassment while noting black hair was most likely Shin. Looking at Shin’s hair made Michi remember Ai telling him about the part of the ship being removed from his leg and suddenly Michi was struggling to sit up.

“Wha –?” Ai started, but Michi cut her off after seeing the cloth used to cover his wound soaked in blood. Seeing it made it really in a way his physical pain hadn’t managed. There was something about seeing the injury be more long then wide that made everything real. Real in the way that he was stuck on some strange planet with a shitty leg, and no doctor.

“Ai. Find me a needle.” Michi didn’t look at Ai as he spoke – he simply said words knowing she was the type of person that would do something when asked. “And thread.” He added almost like an afterthought as he unwrapped his injury. “And check for a lighter or something that contains alcohol.”

“…Alcohol?”

“Go!” Michi barked and Ai was up, checking the bags left in the broken shuttle as Michi slowly unwrapping his bandage like unwrapping a present. Michi observed the gapping whole in his leg with a sort of wonder. Bright red blood was oozing from his wound, the large slash it came from making Michi thing of jam leaking out of a jelly doughnut. It was while Michi tried to wipe away some of the blood using the soaked cloth that Ai returned with a needle, gray thread, and a tiny, travel size thing of gin.

Ai glowed as she placed the things in front of Michi – satisfaction leaking from her warm smile. Michi managed his own slight smile.

“You did so well.” His voice held a false sense of pride that had Ai glowing brighter. Very insecure, Michi decided at once as he twisted open the tiny bottle. Positive enforcement and compliments are things she longs for.

Ai watched him curiously as Michi took a healthy swig of the gin before lowering it towards his wound.

“What are you doing,” she asked unable to hold in her interest. Mouth still burning from the sudden drink, Michi gazed coolly at Ai.

“I’m going to sew up my leg.” The words were spoken calmly before Michi titled the bottle down and the gin flowing into his open flesh had Michi screaming deafeningly once more.
