Outside delicate snowflakes drifted downward melting on the black pavement. Nothing could better remedy chilly hands, and noses better than a piping hot cup of coffee accompanied by a warm pastry. The entire cafe was filled with a delightful aroma of freshly baked breads. Jars of colorful candy lined the shelves. The menu above the counter listed a multitude of different beverages and delicious treats. Also behind the counter stood a pale, dark haired young man who took pleasure in satisfying the customers. Kanon was the name on the tag attached to his mint green apron. He wore a simple pair of black dress pants and white button-down shirt. This was the dress code at Le'moor's Cafe. The cafe owned by his uncle whom was at this point the only baker. As the small business began to grow Kanon's uncle found it necessary to hire a new experienced baker for the cafe. Kanon would be interviewing the candidate today in fact. In precisely fifteen minutes.

Dishes clanked as they were tossed in the sink. Lahm wiped a bead of sweat that had formed on his forehead with the back of his arm. He donned a pair of long black cleaning gloves as he scrubbed the dirty dishes left by customers. Lahm wasn't particularly happy with his job, but being known as the neighborhood punk in a small country town didn't help any in getting anything better. Lahm wasn't a horrible young man, but he'd grown up as a street urchin. People of the small town could be closed-minded. Kanon's uncle took pity on the young man and offered him a job at the cafe.

Name: Fukui Hisoka (Surname first)

Age: 22

Traits: Quiet, composed, rather romantic, thoughtful, dedicated to his work.

Bio: Born in the city, Hisoka never really got to know the life in smaller cities. He always had trouble making a lot of friends, but the ones he has are the best, at least for him. Now that he works in the Le'Moor's cafe, he once again fully buries himself into work. It's always been like this - be it at school, college or work, he'd always do his best. Because of this he often appears cold to other people while in fact he's quite the gentleman, as well as an extremely kind man... Maybe a little bit more to animals than humans. Abandoned animals are his weakness...

Dark eyes glanced around the streets as a quiet curse left a certain man's lips. Where was the cafe?... Hisoka grunted softly as he stepped out of his small, but trusted car. He always drove around in it - and it never failed him. Not even once. He trusted it more than some of his friends... Maybe that's why a lot of them thought of him as weird - but he'd never abandon his car (Which he affectionately called ‘baby‘ at times). When he locked it, the young baker pulled up the hood of his jacket and began walking, searching for the cafe in which he was supposed to be interviewed today.

Was he in a wrong street?.. Hisoka sighed out softly, watching how his breath created white cloud-like mist. He hated this cold. It was never this cold in the city. Ahh, he just wanted to find the cafe sooner... Not to mention that if he didn't hurry, he'd be late for his interview! The young baker let out a relieved sigh when he finally spotted the cafe - really, what a relief to find it! He entered the (thankfully) warm building and removed his hood, revealing his brown hair. Hisoka looked around for a short while before realizing there was a guy doing the dishes in the back - maybe he'd happen to know who he was to talk with. Without any hesitation, he walked up to the other man and cleared his throat with a small cough before forcing out a small smile. "I'm supposed to be interviewed here today, do you know where to go?" He asked rather bluntly, but that's just how he was when it came to work. Serious and straight to the point.

  • 2 weeks later...

The man donned with black rubber gloves that almost reached his elbows jumped in fright. As he looked back over his shoulder his sighed. Partly out of embarrassment, but more so out of irritation. Furrowing his eyebrows Lahm gave a glib response. "Ask the guy behind the counter." Lahm stretched out his arm and pointed toward the front counter where his co-worker stood. Suds dripping onto the floor from his gloves.

Kanon stood on the opposite side of the counters. A customer waited patiently for her order. He was completly absorbed in his work as he swirled around a bit of cream to form a beautiful yet simple leaf design into his customers latte. He turned with a charming smile and handed the woman her order. She thanked him by name which could only mean she was a regular at the cafe, but that was normal. What was rare was to see a new face around the shop.

Kanon checked the white faced watch on his wrist and shook his head a bit to himself thinking his uncle had made a poor choice. Hell the guy couldn't even make it on time to the interview, there was no way he was getting a job here.

Hisoka nodded quickly to the guy and glanced around the cafe while nervously fixing his tie. The young male swallowed down the last traces of nervousness as he slowly walked up to the guy he was directed to. Waiter, he seemed focused on his job and all, but a bit too cheery for him... Or was he just imagining things? Anyway, he was rather cute... Of course, that didn't really make any difference for him, but secretely he liked making quick opinions about people he met for the first time before even getting to know them. This guy seemed like he'd be one to make friends quickly, though he could also be focused on his voice. He seemed to be getting along with customers...

"I'm supposed to have an interview here today. Do you know where I'm supposed to go?" Hisoka asked when he finally reached the guy he was supposed to ask. His dark eyes showed faint curiosity, though mostly it was determination... And slight coldness. He never liked making unneccessary relationships with his co-workers... He prefered watching them from afar, or sometimes just ignore them. Hisoka often got so caught up in his work that he only paid attention to something really big - even so, deep inside he still had a very warm heart... Something really big could be just a co-worker asking for help... Or a stray puppy. Either was sure to get his full attention for sure.

'So this is the guy' Kanon thought to himself as he pursed his lips only slightly. The examined the rather good-looking young man. However, looks wouldn't sway him. He already made up his mind. Kanon had already formed a chip on his shoulder the day his uncle told him they'd be interviewing a renowned baker from the big city. This guy was different and different never worked out in this small town. "Well I was beginning to wonder if you were going to be able to make it." he remarked smugly under his breath as he grabbed some papers and walked around unlatching a small half door that lead behind the counter.

Kanon held the door open for the other and showed him to the back office, but first mad a stop by the sink. "Lahm, watch the front please." Lahm just nodded without even glancing over at the two. Kanon closed the door behind them and pulled up a chair in the small space that served as both the office and break room. "Have a seat. Kanon looked over the others resume. "My uncle has pretty much made his mind up on the decision to have you join our staff." He sighed a bit and looked at Hisoka "So I guess the only thing left to do is get you to sign a few documents and show you around." he didn't sound too enthused.

Hisoka took in a slightly hitched breath before narrowing his eyes. Well, he definitely wasn't one to take something like that without giving the same in return. "It's snowing, I've never been here and the cafe's quite small. Sorry, I'm used to bigger ones..." He muttered out as he turned his gaze away slightly. No, he didn't like being mean at all... He just couldn't be mean, it wasn't in his nature. "I hope you forgive this. I still made it in time." Hisoka decided to add, though he knew that his first impression wasn't made as good as he expected it to be...

The young baker quietly entered the office when the doors were opened. He loosened his scarf and let out a soft sigh. He was going to have quite some trouble with getting along with the others, it seemed... Hisoka sat down on a chair when he was told to, while keeping his eyes on the waiter. He seemed a bit tense... Well, he was until he heard that he was hired anyway. "I'll be pleased to work here." He said quietly, somewhat warmly. The baker nodded lightly as he let out a small, slightly forced out smile. "When can I start working?"

"Immedietly" He responded. 'How could this new kid be so disrespectful already.' He pondered amongst himself. However, it wasn't so hard to come to a conclusion. He was a city boy and from Kanon's previous experience he had never gotten along with cold city-goers.

Kanon stood. "My uncle was feeling under the weather today, which is why we called you here so suddenly." After Kanon instructed the latter on which papers that needed Hisoka's signature he gathered them all up neatly in his arms. "I'll show you around." The two men stood simultaneously, the room did indeed lack space. It was filled with a desk, office chair, small table and a refrigerator. As well as other various small items.

As the two stood Kanon took a hard knee to the shin causing his leg to buckle. Kanon then bumped into the new employee nearly pushing him down to the ground. "Uh, I apologize.." he said as he kneeled to pick up the scattered papers he'd dropped during the incident.

Hisoka just quietly signed all the papers he needed, not saying anything until he was asked to. A part of him was extremely happy about getting to work so soon - baking was one of his biggest passions.. He could do it all day! The young male didn't even realize he had a slightly dreamy expression on his face. Truly, working in a smaller place wouldn't give him lots of money, but he could still focus on his work... In the city there was always one huge mess - a pile of everything mashed into one. He always had to hurry, always had to make sure everything stayed fresh and so on and so on.

Hisoka smiled and nodded when the other told him he'd show him around. The baker stood up along with Kanon, and only then did he realize how small the room actually was. He felt a bit too close to the other... As if that wasn't enough, he was nearly pushed down onto the ground. He unconsciously grabbed onto Kanon to help him stand while looking at him with a small frown. "You should be careful." He only muttered out as he crouched down to help him collect the papers. Hisoka handed them to the other once he was done and stood up, taking a small step back. "Could we go now? I'd like to see where I'm going to work."

"It's small remember?" He sneered in mockery referring to the comment the other had made a bit earlier. Taking the papers with force he scowled as he passed in front of Hisoka. "Right this way." He was never this cold toward a stranger, so why did he hold so much hostility toward the other. He couldn't even figure it out himself.

Kanon led the new baker through the hallway pointing to a door on their left. "That is the employee only bathroom, the knob is tricky.. Uh, you've just got to pull up on it as you lock it." he mentioned as he motioned with his free hand how to work the lock. He then took Hisoka to the kitchen which was small, yet a bit larger than you would imagine for the small building. Kanon pointed out the ovens and instructed him on how to use the other pieces of kitchenware. He showed him the freezer and where they kept utensils. "So if you need anything else you know where I'll be." He looked at the baker for a moment. His smooth milky skin, his dark eyes in contrast. 'What am I thinking' he mentally cursed himself.

Hisoka rolled his eyes behind the other's back. Sheesh, even he himself wasn't that damn cold... This guy was acting plain mean! The baker didn't say another word as he just followed the other around, nodding from time to time. He bit down on his tongue to hold in a comment about how they could at least get proper locks... It wouldn't be nice of him, really. He had to be... Better than this guy. At least a bit more polite... He wouldn't get anywhere if he just behaved mean and nasty all the time anyway.

“Thank you.“ Hisoka said quietly as he quickly pulled out an elastic band and tied his hair on the back of his head before pushing back the rest of his hair with a simple hair band. After that, he fixed his clothing, put on an apron and immediately went to get everything ready. The baker didn't even notice Konan staring at him... Then again, he rarely noticed anything once he started work. “What do I have to make first?“ He asked while the waiter didn't leave.

"Uh," he gulped as he looked down toward the ground. Kanon cleared his throat and rubbed the back of his neck. "First just focus on pastries. Pastries and sweet buns sell the best in this shop." That just showed the age range of the regulars that frequented the shop. Simple pastries and sweet bread seemed to be a favorite with the older crowd. What a boring choice. No different fillings, flavorful toppings. A truly insipid selection of baked goods lined the case. No one ever dared to try anything new.

"Alright." Hisoka only said that much before turning around to collect all the ingredients he needed. He didn't mind making anything, actually. All he cared about was people letting him do his job and then, of course, having the customers enjoy. The baker soon began working on the sweet buns - he supposed he could just put them in the oven and while they were baking he could make some pastries. Maybe some muffins - they were easy to make and pretty good... Did they have any berries? He could add some into them, that usually created an amazing taste. Hisoka was completely drowned in his work just minutes after he started... He really was dedicated to it.

Kanon watched the other for a moment. He was both impressed and annoyed. Impressed by the way Hisoka took charge and really dove right into his work and by the looks of it he knew what he was doing. However, he was annoyed that the cold city guy had only spoken a few mandatory words and snide remarks while in someone else's kitchen. Was it so hard for these city boys to respect others. Kanon rolled his eyes a bit at the thought. Although he wouldn't admit it he also held some resentment toward the guy for taking over his uncles spot. A position he'd asked over and over to be taught and take over. He could handle the kitchen no problem. So why hadn't his uncle given him the chance.

Absorbed in his thoughts Kanon hadn't noticed Lahm walk up behind him. Lahm cleared his throat to gain the latters attention.

"Oh," Kanon turned in a hurry to look at the dark haired male. His eyes always so intimidating.(Lahms) "Yes? what is it?" Kanon asked.

Lamn scoffed and gave a sullen glare. "You're awfully jumpy today." He pointed to the front. "You've got a line."

"Oh right" Kanon nodded in response and hurried to the front counter.

Hisoka felt a twinge of irritation when another person appeared in the kitchen. He raised his gaze momentarily before going back to making the buns. The baker let out a soft sigh as he finally put them to oven and immediately went to check if they had any berries. When he found blueberries and strawberries, the man was extremely pleased with himself. A small smile seemed to appear on his face as he began working on the batter for muffins - a part of it with vanilla, the other with cocoa. The ones with vanilla would have blueberries on top, and the ones with cocoa would have strawberries. It would look and taste good!

A small frown appeared on his face when he realized how little baking powder was left here. With a soft huff he scratched the back of his neck before shaking his head. He had no idea to whom to tell this nor did he know if he was even supposed to tell. Maybe the people here knew that already, and he'd just be wasting his time with warnings like that... Nah, he was better off just to focuse on his work. If anything, he'd just grab some tomorrow before work. Hisoka actually got a small appartament near the cafe so he wouldn't have to be in too much trouble if anything happened to his car or anything... Of course, it might be hard to get it fixed here, but he'd manage somehow.

"This is odd" Lahm mentioned in a peculiar tone. He had a hand in his pants pocket as he casually strolled over toward the other. Laying his free hand on the counter next to where Hisoka was diligently working on his pastries. His eyes wandered tracing every inch of the new member. "That was fast" He sneered in reference to the new employees speedy hire.

His eyes then stopped right in Hisoka's own. He stared right into his eyes as he spoke. "You'd better be careful around here kid."

Hisoka glanced up at Lahm with slight irritation before continuing on working on his pastries. He sighed out as he stopped momentarily and closed his eyes. "Could you tell someone we're almost out of baking powder?" The baker asked calmly as he opened his eyes and stared right back into the other's. "I'm always careful." He muttered out as he began adding vanilla and cocoa into the batter. The young male glanced over his shoulder and checked on the buns, sighing out softly as he cheked one with a toothpick. A bit more and they would be done...

Lahm raised his chin a bit lowering his eyelids as he gave the feisty co-worker a coquettish smirk. "I'll get right on that then, boss." The sarcasm in his voice was all too apparent. He glanced down at the tins filled with fresh batter. He ran his finger through some of it and stuck it in his mouth to taste the sample. "Not bad" he grinned as he passed the other and made his way to the supply closet.

Hisoka grunted and slapped the other's hand away. "Stop messing with my work." He nearly hissed out. This wasn't something to fuck with... He frowned slightly as he huffed and quickly cleaned up the part where Lahm dared stick his dirty, unwashed finger in. The thought made Hisoka shiver lightly. He always made sure his products were the best the could be! He sighed out softly to himself before pulling out the sweet buns. The fresh smell filled the air and the baker seemed to calm down at least slightly. This seemed nice...

The coy grin remained plastered to his face as the other protested his actions. While in the stock closet he grabbed a bag of baking powder. They only kept bulk items in the stock room. The bag weighed at least forty pounds which Lahm easily threw over his shoulder.

He hoisted the bag into a more comfortable position before making his way back out to the kitchen. He brought the bag over to the next table over from where Hisoka was creating his masterpiece and threw the bag from his shoulder onto the table. Then glancing at the baker he furrowed his brows.

Hisoka grunted out a 'thank you' before resuming his work. He pushed the bag away a bit so he could finish his buns so they were absolutely perfect. His work wouldn't be any less than that. Finally satisfied with what he did, the baker looked at Lahm and raised a brow. "Are you also here to carry them to the shelves?" He asked quietly as he put the first portion of muffins into the oven to bake. Meanwhile, he began cutting the strawberries into four pieces each. A full strawberry is too big for one bite and it even looks better when they're cut up already.

"I can" he responded gruffly "Is that what you're asking me to do boss?" He mocked. Lahm crossed his arms and leaned against the table. The smell of freshly baked buns and sweet fruit caramelizing as it cooked filled the air. The aroma was strong and perhaps the best it had been in the bakery since he'd worked there. "I can do anything you ask me" he smirked. "That's why I'm here." He clenched his jaw and looked away while thinking.

Hisoka sighed out as he stopped cutting the berries for a moment. “Yes, that's exactly what I want you to do.“ He replied quietly before pushing away the already cut up berries to the side to continue cutting the other ones. “Also it would be nice if you checked for chocolate. Dark would be best.“ He muttered out under his nose, already working on other ideas in his mind. His cinnamon rolls were good, not even dry like others‘ were. He always added a little secret to all of his recipes. Be it more milk, less butter or anything else, it was all for the better.

"Heh" he scoffed as he shook his head. "Wow, you're going to fit in here just fine." he said as he strolled over to Hisoka. He stood there beside him for a moment looking over his shoulder then knelt still close to the other. He grabbed a container from under the table where icing buckets, and various sprinkles, colored sugar and other topping lay neatly organized but unlabeled. "Didn't Kanon show you anything." he mumbled and grabbed a container with a green lid and lifted it onto the table. Popping open the lid to reveal blocks of chocolate separated by flavor.

Hisoka raised a brow as he moved a bit to let the other do whatever he wanted to. He wouldn't ever disturb another person's work. His eyebrows raised when he saw all of the coverings and let out a sigh. “No, he didn't show me around well enough, it seems. Thank you.“ He said quietly as he took out a bar of dark chocolate and placed it on the table. He glanced over at Lahm with a soft sigh. “If I'll need anything else I'll call. Now could you get these?“ He asked while motioning to the buns. The baker quietly cheked on the muffins and took the first tray out. He carefully cut each one of the cocoa ones and placed a small piece of strawberry right in the middle. He then crouched down and grabbed out some white icing to put on the muffins as well. These would look good...
