Hello to everyone who is interested in Korean, it's a very beautiful language and plus it's fast and easy to learn. I hope you can learn Korean with this thread.

Firstly we're going to start with learning hangeul, meaning the korean alphabet.

Hangeul step 1

In this lesson, you will learn:

Consonants: ㄱ, ㄴ, ㅁ, ㄷ, ㅇ

Vowels: ㅏ, ㅜ, ㅗ, ㅣ

ㅏ (vowel) This is a vertical vowel and written to the right of the consonant. Think of the

ㄱ (consonant) This is pronounced like a mix between a G and a K at the beginning of a word. It is unvoiced like a K, but unaspirated like a G. Think of the in . However, when found between vowels, the sound is voiced and makes a /g/ sound. IPA symbol: /k/ /g/.

ㅜ (vowel) This sound makes an "ooh" sound, similar to 'moon' or 'blue' or the U sound in Spanish (i.e. usted in "usted"). This is a horizontal vowel and written below the consonant. IPA symbol: /u/.

ㄴ (consonant) This sound is the same as the N sound in English. IPA symbol: /n/.

ㅗ (vowel) Think of the Canadian or Scottish O. Many speakers do not say aw-oo or o-oo like Americans and do not say ay-oo like Londoners. This is a straight "o" sound, tight but not as tight as the ㅜ. This is a horizontal vowel and written below the consonant. IPA symbol: /o/.

ㅁ (consonant) This sound is the same as the M sound in English. IPA symbol: /m/.

ㅣ (vowel) This sound is similar to the 'ee' sound in 'see' or 'free.' A little quicker though, more like the in but not the Scottish "happay." This is a vertical vowel and written to the right of the consonant. IPA symbol: /i/.

ㄷ (consonant) This is pronounced like a mix between the sounds of a T and a D at the beginning of a word. It is voiceless like a T and unaspirated like a D. Think of the in . However, when found between vowels, the sound is voiced and makes a /d/ sound. IPA symbol: /t/ /d/.

ㅇ (consonant) ㅇ represents no sound when found in the initial position of a syllable. Instead, it simply acts as a placeholder since vowels cannot be written by themselves. However, if ㅇ is in the final (bottom) position, it makes an NG sound, eg 'sing' or 'wrong', but these final position sounds will not be discussed until step 4 of this lesson. For now, think of it as a placeholder for a consonant when only a vowel sound must be written. IPA symbol: /./ /ŋ/.

Some of word end written sound s but when you say it will sound like t.

For the order...

4th 네번째(ne-bun-jjae)

5th 다섯번째(da-seot-bun-jjae)

6th 여섯번째(yeo-seot-bun-jjae)

7th 일곱번째(il-gob-bun-jjae)

8th 여덟번째(yeo-dul-bun-jjae)

9th 아홉번째(a-hob-bun-jjae)

10th 열번째(yeo-bun-jjae)

11th 열한번째(yeo-han-bun-jjae)

20th 스무번째(seu-mu-bun-jjae)

after 20th put count number front of 번째...

Well... just do one more thing...

12 month...

Jan. 일월(il-wol)

Feb. 이월(i-wol)

Mar. 삼월(sam-wol)

Arp. 사월(sa-wol)

Basic Korean Writing 기본 한글 쓰기

Before any writing you need to know basic alphabet or structure of language you are try to learn.

Korean(한글han-gul) has 14 consonants(자음ja-eum) and 10 vowels(모음mo-eum).

First, let us know what 14 consonants are.

ㄱ(기역gi-yeog)

ㄴ(니은 ni-eun)

ㄷ(디귿 di-geud)

ㄹ(리을 li-eul)

ㅁ(미음 mi-eum)

ㅂ(비읍 bi-eub)

ㅅ(시옷 si-od) end written sound is S but coming out sound is D.

ㅇ(이응 i-eung)

ㅈ(지읒 ji-eud) end written sound is J but coming out sound is D

ㅊ(치읓 chi-eud) end written sound is CH but coming out sound is D.

ㅋ(키읔 ki-eug) end written sound is K but coming out sound is G.

ㅌ(티읕 ti-eud) end written sound is T but coming out sound is D.

ㅍ(피읖 pi-eub) end written sound is P but coming out sound is B.

ㅎ(히잏 hi-eud) end written sound is H but coming out sound is D.

With this there are double up one… for sound just ad Ssang in front.

ㄲ(쌍기역 Ssang-gi-yeog)

ㄸ(쌍디귿 Ssang-di-geud)

ㅃ(쌍비읍 Ssang-bi-eub)

ㅆ(쌍시옷 Ssang-si-od)

ㅉ(쌍지읒 Ssang-ji-eud)

And there is some consonants go together. This is most used in under. This one I will give you few examples.

ㄳ – 삯(Saks) – wages

ㄵ – 앉아(Anja) – Sit down

ㄶ – 많이(Manhi) – a lot

ㄻ – 닮았다 (Dalmassda) – looks like it

ㄾ – 핥다(Haltda) - lick

ㅄ – 밥값 (Babgabs) – meal price or money for meal

But, same as English with out vowels consonants doesn’t make any words.

So now let learn about 10 vowels.

ㅏ(a)

ㅑ(ya)

ㅓ(eo)

ㅕ(yeo)

ㅗ(o)

ㅛ(yo)

ㅜ(woo / u)

ㅠ(yoo / yu)

ㅡ(eu)

ㅣ(i)

This vowels also mix together to work.

ㅐ(ae)

ㅒ(yae)

ㅔ(e)

ㅖ(ye)

ㅘ(wa)

ㅙ(wae)

ㅚ(oe)

ㅝ(wo)

ㅞ(we)

ㅟ(wi)

ㅢ(ui)

These are the most basic you need to know before structuring into word...

Some people said Korean is most scientific language in the world.

The building structure of Korean isn’t easy, but long as you know how to put consonants and vowels together it will be easy to put together. And the sound of the word will not change much at all...

So what you write is what you get.

So let built up some word.

First, let use first consonant and vowel together.

가(ga) – Go!

Even just one consonant and one vowel together made into the word.

There are many other...

나(na) – I or Me,

다(da) – Everything,

라(la) – sound La,

마(ma) – it’s some kind of root veggie,

바(ba) – Bar,

사(sa) – Four,

아(a) – Ah,

자(ja) – Ruler, Go to sleep!

차(cha) – Car,

파(pa) – Dig or sound Fa,

하(ha) – laugh sound Ha

Like this... even one work also could have many meaning.

Also, you could put other consonant under this single word.

각(gak) – angle or each

I will try to do basic conversation for you.

If you have any request on some conversation you will like to know just let me know.

You could give me any English conversation and I could change into Korean also.

So first I will start with some basic greetings.

안녕! (An-Neoung!) Hi! or so Bye! – This is basic greeting use for your friend or some one in your age group or younger.

안녕히주무셨어요? (An-nyeong-hi ju-mu-syeoss-a-yo?) Did you sleep well? – This is also for older people.

잘잤니? (Jal jass-ni?) Did you sleep well? – to younger people to polite way.

좋은아침! (Joh-eun a-chim!) Good morning! – this can be use to every one but if you want to use to older person you have to put 이예요(i-Ye-yo!) in the end.

좋은하루보내! (Joh-eun a-chim bo-nae!) Have a great morning! – also can used any age but if it for the older person this time add 세요(se-yo!) in the end.

잘다녀오세요! (Jal Dan-nyeo-o-se-yo!) – this is kind of said to older who go out but will come back home. 다녀 mean go 오세요 mean come... so it’s sound like go and comeback… ^^;;; but, with 잘at front it mean save trip and come home.

다녀오겠습니다! (Dan-nyeo-o-gyess-seub-ni-da!) – this is when younger person going out and come back later said it... most time children said to mother when they go to school.

점심드셨어요? (Jeom-sim deu-syeoss-a-yo?) Did you have a lunch? – to older person.

점심먹었어? (Jeom-sim meog-eoss-a?) Did you have a lunch? – to friend or close people.

점심먹었니? (Jeom-sim meog-eoss-ni? Did you have a lunch? – to younger person.

남은하루도즐겁게보내세요! (Nam-eun ha-lu-do jeul-geob-ge bo-nae-se-yo!) Keep enjoy remain day too!

힘내서파이팅! (Him-nae-seo Fa-i-ting!) Put your strength and fighting! – well this is for cheering so you could use many way... just don’t use some one who is way older... like grand pa... ^^;;; If you want to said to older person just said, “힘내세요!(Him-nae-se-yo!).

잘가!(Jal ga!) Good bye! – to friend or younger people.

조심해서가세요! (Jo-sim-hae-seo ga-se-yo!) Go safely! – to older person.

안녕히가세요! (An-nyeong-hi ga-se-yo!) Good bye! – to older person.

수고많으셨습니다! (Su-go manh-eu-syeoss-seub-ni-da!) Thank you for your hard work! – to older person.

수고했어! (Su-go hae-eo!) Good work! – to friend or younger people.

잘먹겠습니다! (Jal meog-gess-seub-ni-da!) I will enjoy the meal! – before eating.

잘먹었습니다! (Jal meog-eoss-seub-ni-da!) Thank you for the meal! – after meal.

잘자! (Jal Ja!) Good night! – to friend or close person or younger person.

안녕히주무세요! (An-nyeong-hi ju-mu-se-yo!) Good night! – to older person.

좋은꿈꿔! (Joh-eun ggum ggwo!) Have a good(nice) dream! – to friend or close person or younger person. To older 좋은꿈꾸세요!(Joh-eun ggum ggu-se-yo!)

내꿈꿔! ^^ (Nae ggum ggwo! ^^) Have a dream about me! – to lover... ^^;;;

Some conversation:

Meeting new friend.

A: 안녕! 내이름은 00 이야. (An-nyeong! Nae i-leum-eun 00i-ya.)

네이름은뭐니? (Ne i-leum-eun mwo-ni?)

Hi! My name is 00. What is your name?

B: 안녕! 내이름은 00이야. (An-nyeong! Nae i-leum-eun 00i-ya.)

만나서반가워! (Man-na-seo ban-ga-wo!)

Hi! My name is 00. Nice to meet you.

Meeting new person for work or something like that.

B: 그래, 잘지냈어. 너는요즘어떻게지내니? (Geu-lae, jal ji-naess-eo. Neo-eun yo-jeum eo-ddeoh-ge ji-nae-ni?)

Yes, I am doing fine. How have you been now day?

A: 항상그렇지. 그럼, 또보자. (Hang-sang geu-leoh-ji. Geu-leum, ddo bo-ja.)

Same old same. Any way, see you again.

B: 그래, 나중에또봐! (Geu-lae, na-jung-e ddo bwa!)
