Call Me by Your Name is the story of a sudden and powerful romance that blossoms between an adolescent boy and a summer guest at his parents’ cliff-side mansion on the Italian Riviera. Unprepared for the consequences of their attraction, at first each feigns indifference. But during the restless summer weeks that follow, unrelenting buried currents of obsession and fear, fascination and desire, intensify their passion as they test the charged ground between them. What grows from the depths of their spirits is a romance of scarcely six weeks’ duration and an experience that marks them for a lifetime. For what the two discover on the Riviera and during a sultry evening in Rome is the one thing both already fear they may never truly find again: total intimacy.
Post’s Author Opinion:
Note: This is a personal opinion, it does not reflect YaoiOtaku’s official position towards the novel.
What was Good:
– the main characters
– the unusual writing. It took a bit to get used to, but it also sounded very natural – like it was truly written by someone confused and in love.
– the setting. Last century Italy.. what could be more romantic?
– the mood. It’s one of those books that affect you for a long time after readin, inspire you and remind you of your own first love.
– the movie adaptation. Yes, it’s absolutely perfect and only compliments the book.
What was Bad:
This book is famous for a reason. It’s good, it’s REALLY good. It’s one of the best coming-of-age stories out there, and also one of the best books for easing your friends’ way into the MM genre. I bought copies for so many of my friends and so far, the feedback has only been positive.
