Summary:
The story takes place in a school in France in the 19th century. Serge Battour returns after his graduation, and remembers the days of his youth... his turbulent days in school, standing out because of the color of his skin (his mother was a gypsy) and getting shacked up with Gilbert Cocteau, a gorgeous blonde boy who sells his body for unknown reasons. Their life in school is filled with conflicts but there is something in both of them that attracts them to each other.
